interesting. I never knew that.
183  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How many GHs do you need to break even if you got a miner now? on: September 03, 2013, 10:31:57 PM
If I got a miner, delivered right now, how many GH's would I need to possibly break even, accounting for the ever-increasing difficulty?
how much are you spending

188  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Time to sue ButterflyLabs - Big Single-SC owner let's league for class action on: August 31, 2013, 04:49:28 PM
Only 1 person was sufficiently "moved" or "motivated" enough to leave a review for BFL today:

https://plus.google.com/108957607274308601800/about?gl=us&hl=en&review=1

If this shows little motivation behind BFL's customers, then they (BFL) should probably not have much fear of any repercussions.

I encourage people to leave feedback so that BFL takes notice of what they are doing that is upsetting or pleasing their customer base.

I just saw your post for this............DONE!!!!!!!!!!  Grin
I too left them one star. 0 is unfortunately not an option
189  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTB] >400 BTC for cash - US - I come to you - 15% under gox. on: August 31, 2013, 04:46:02 PM
met with xraymikek, very good guy and both got what we were looking for, both were comfortable throughout the meeting and couldnt have been any easier for a transaction of this size, would do business again without question
Good to know. Someone willing to drive to CT from the Midwest clearly gave me a reason for pause.
190  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3700 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: August 29, 2013, 05:12:01 PM
I have a question, why is deepbit at 11% of the bitcoin network? the hashrate is very low on the pool site but it shows that deepbit is solving blocks faster than 50btc....

Deepbit doesn't tag any blocks to allow sites to properly identify them.  At the time blockchain.info was designed, the vast majority of blocks with no tag did belong to Deepbit [which was 30-40% of the network at the time].  As a result, there is still some legacy code in there that has an extremely high false positive rate where it credits Deepbit for blocks.  These days, a huge number of blocks showing up as Deepbit actually belong to ghash.io (BitFury).

That that makes sense now that you explain it to me. thanks

is deepbit still around on bitcointalk?
Tycho, posting above, is deepbit.

I see the continued stress on the portal. Sorry this is happening, but thank you for your work in resolving it. I'm curious how they get thru cloudflare?

193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How To Turn Bitcoin Into Money? on: August 29, 2013, 02:39:07 AM
Bitcoin is money. The End.

Although if you want other types of money, I'd say try localbitcoins.com first.

acquire bitcoins
hold them
sell on exchange
194  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Has anyone else tried Coinbase lately? on: August 29, 2013, 02:37:13 AM
I'm interested to get people's opinions on Coinbase.com. I've seen varying reviews regarding Coinbase, but thought I would give it a try because of its "simplicity" and options for merchants. After waiting 5 days for my order to be processed, I got an email saying that my order had been canceled, which is apparently an old problem that hasn't been fixed. Other old problems seem to be not responding to emails or refunding canceled orders in a timely manner, but I cannot confirm or deny that since my order was only canceled this morning. They say they've raised over $6 million from investors, but apparently they haven't spent any of that on order processing or customer service.
Place order again. My second one got cancelled. I think it was just working out glitch with availability of BTC, and them calling it a security issue. In the meantime while you await thirty day verification, make a few smaller orders assuming one might not go through. That's basically how I handled it.

I just hit 30 day verification and the instant BTC is really instant. its really effing great actually.
195  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whose post carry weight? on: August 28, 2013, 08:56:02 PM
The signal to noise ratio on Bitcointalk.org is low.  I'd like to parse out the noise and follow the movers and shakers in the nascent economy of Bitcoin.  Suggestions on who to listen more closely to?
I made a good youtube video, the rest of my sumbmissions are questionable, however.
196  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is anyone else extremely frustrated? on: August 28, 2013, 08:55:01 PM
I, for one, have been "lurking" the bitcoin scene for a year or so and I finally want to get into the game. Unfortunately, it seems like it's become damn near impossible to conveniently buy any. Angry  Thoughts? Suggestions? Anyone else just want to vent?
Coinbase! Just got verified. Instant coin is really instant. After 30 days. Until then you only need wait 4.
197  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: To all BFL Customers on: August 28, 2013, 08:52:31 PM
Hi,

I am CEO - BFL.  My friends call me "Sunny".  I am so sick and tired of you whiners crying about the product we are shipping out that I have come back to these forums to set the record straight.

First, BFL is not a charity, we are a business.
If you don't like the way we do business you do not have to buy from us.  There are several other companies that make ASIC mining devices and frankly we do not need your business so feel free to wait for our competitors to ship their vaporware products if you don't like our shipping schedule.

Second, BFL is announcing a new device.
Some of you may have heard about the new widget we are building.  When it's complete it will most definitely operate at over 500 Gigahash +"some incredible speed" per second.  If it is not fast enough for you we will sell you a second.  And as soon as we complete our water cooling system we'll be packing these fuckers in tight in a 3U form factor rackmount system.  Man is that thing gonna fly.  IT should have wings.  Be sure to order yours right away so you can get it as soon as it's ready to ship. (look around for our pre-order link, there is an advertisement in this forum somewhere I'm sure.  I'm not so good with things like fine details).

Third I want to talk about my criminal background.
Many of you want to believe that a tiger cannot change it's stripes.  I assure you a tiger can; I have.  I changed my stripes and now I understand the importance of regulation.  This is why I am personally seeing to it that all of our devices are now shipped WITHOUT POWER SUPPLIES.  That way we can avoid the onerous process of getting through FCC regulations for each device.  You see, if we don't supply a power supply we don't need to certify that our devices do not emit harmful radiation.  (Being a criminal taught me how to get around the law).  But don't worry, our devices won't start on fire or anything like that (I don't think).

Lastly, you guys need to stop picking on Josh.
I have read through the hateful things you've said about Josh and I just want to say it's got to stop.  Josh is a good kid and he means well.  You assholes are relentless and I cannot believe he still puts up with your shit.  (Josh, go back to your office, I got this).  You guys are gonna hurt his feelings if you keep this up.

So here I am to answer your questions.  Go ahead, dudes, fire away....

Go fucking choke on a dick and die, Sonny. You piece of shit
198  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Do we want to continue to allow varrious vendor hate in here? on: August 28, 2013, 08:50:47 PM
The forum is overrun with the hate of the day with various "hardware"(/vaporware) vendors, it has become hard to discuss anything else. Many of the participants are behaving like animals.

I'm sensitive to the risk of suppressing complaints. There have been many scam hardware "vendors" of various degrees. People should be able to communicate about the risks, seek recourse, etc.   At the same time, these complaints have reached an intensity where they are self defeating.  If you tell me vendor X is a scam I don't know if its because they are or because you're crazy, because you're a shill for another vendor, because you're a shill for them trying to make the complainers look crazy, if you're a miner trying to scare people out of mining, etc.  As a warning this information is no longer very helpful.

I have multiple people I know (and have met in person and know not to be socks) begging me to do something about the sad state of this subforum.  But I'm at a loss... how do we defeat troll culture when it's taking the form of "concern troll" about concerns we should be careful to preserve? And how can we do it without making me and miningbuddy censors who have to vet every single post?

Does anyone have any great ideas?

Will we continue to accept advertising from buttfuck labs?
199  Local / Mining (Nederlands) / Re: Vraagje USB block erupter on: August 27, 2013, 10:15:22 PM
Hallo allemaal,

hello everybody,

As you can see i'm new to the forums and I have some questions regarding the Block erupter USB asic miners.

I wanted to order like 10 of these i can only pay with my bank account because i don't have bitcoins in my wallet, i'm from the Netherlands if that helps. Where could i buy them with my bank account(cheap as possible)?

I know i can use a USB hub to run 10 of them but does the hub needs to be connected to a computer to mine bitcoins?

Ik denk dat je kunt gaan naar bitcanary.com en CanaryIntheMine zal hen Internationaal verzenden.
