181  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: August 26, 2013, 11:40:00 PM
Any news on offering DIY kits (basically containing the full BOM) for small assemblers? It doesn't make real sense to source the components yourself when you plan to assemble one or two boards. To be honest I was expecting this to be out there already, since it should be fairly easy to profit from that...

I am planning to assemble my own K1 board when Bkkcoins sends out the PCB's.. Also planing to build two K16s as well but have not done the BOM ordering for those boards yet.. I will be doing that later tonight or tomorrow.

I have a total of $7.29 with $5 standard US mail.  Now there are a few components on the K1 that I have found out of stock and are on back order.. I was able to find most of the parts on digikey as listed..

1.2V, 600mA LDO Regulator AP7217D-12YG-13 Diodes Inc. 600 - Digikey no lead time

Ceramic Capacitor C1005X7S1A474K TDK 0.47uF 0402 12

Oscillator ASDMB-32.0-LC 32MHz QFN4  - http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DKSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&itemSeq=135505227&uq=635131380175856079

and the rest can be found on mouser with the exception of the following.

Schottky Diode, Low Vf SL02-GS08 1A, 30V DO-219AB - can only find 20V when 30V is specified in BOM

Ferrite Bead Choke ILBB0603ER600V 60 ohm, 25% - Mouser back order Estimated Ship Date 2,716 8/26/2013 Factory Lead Time 15 Weeks

Ceramic Capacitor VJ0603Y682KXXCW1BC 6.8nF - Factory lead time 8 weeks.. none ordered yet.

If anyone knows a place to order the back ordered Capacitor.. I think the Bead Choke will ship and not sure about the 20V to 30V difference on the BOM and Schottky Diode on mouser.

I will be checking the product availability on the 300+ K16 components shortly.

182  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy] Avalon ASIC Chips (SebastianJu) Batch 6 ordered (Closed) on: August 26, 2013, 09:54:18 PM
More chips delivered: https://bitmine.ch/?p=819

Who are the third parties they went to in order to get the ICs?  Either way somebody received chips from Avalon and they had to pay a high price to get them before their Batch 1. Good news is they are shipping... bad news is we still have no idea how long it will take since they don't source who is getting the chips?
183  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [PAUSED] - GROUP BUY of BITFURY Chips + DRILLBIT SYSTEM mining assembly on: August 22, 2013, 10:34:52 PM
Hey Barntech,

For those electricity- and ROI-conscious, have you considered an under-clocking option? I think I saw somewhere some Finnish dudes came up with a mode where you can squeeze about 1.75Gh/W out of Bitfury, which could extend its life span quite a bit, especially for the stacked units. It gives a lot lower hashrate in that mode, of course.

I can read some of you like milkbottlec want to push the chip at its upper limit. I will give priority to run the system on the long term, at least for 6 monthes (what mightycount called "ROI conscious"). Pushing it, is a very dangerous game, I wont play with fire. While running at the upper limit, that could drastically reduce the lifetime of the system, chips can break down. The hottest they run the shortest their lifetime. Since drillbit can be tuned at different frequencies, it's up to everybody to set up the system as you like.

About bitfury chips, I think the maximum efficiency is around 2Gh/s and the maximum it can handle is 2.7Gh/s (short time boost or with heavy heatsink).

burnin has plans to try and push 5GHash/s out of his sample chips.. I don't think he is afraid to catch some chips on fire.. hopefully this will work out!

There is a Bitfury chip based Australian project in the group buy section you may not have read about because is a slightly unusual spot for a new hardware thread. See the above link.

Here is a short summary.

Introducing the DrillBit System

An affordable and expandable bitcoin mining system.

The DrillBit system is the most versatile Bitcoin mining system available. It will expand to suit your needs. You can start up with a small mining rig, similar to many entry level rigs on the market, or you can start bigger. As you decide to expand your hashing capabilities, the DrillBit system will expand to suit your requirements, easily and simply.

The basic module of the DrillBit system is a single DrillBit board; an 8 BITFURY ASIC card. With the basic hashrate of approximately 21.6 GH per card (based on BITFURY's published spec of 2.7Gh/s per ASIC), the board plugs into a standard USB socket. The power can be supplied by a normal ATX power supply. If you are only running a single board, it may also be powered from a spare disc drive connector, allowing you to install it out of sight, inside your computer, should you wish to. You can be hashing all the time, with no extra boxes to stash, no cords to trip over and accidentally unplug.

The ASIC board has 3 ports built in. The top port on the first board takes a data distribution board - like the FPGA board in the Avalon miner, only much, much simpler. It comes included with the initial purchase of a DrillBit board so you are ready to start mining as soon as you get it, nothing more required. But when you want to add more hashing power, this is where the DrillBit system really shows its advantages over other systems. If you want to double your hashrate to 43.2GH, just get another ASIC card and plug it into the bottom port of the first card. Its that simple. No big strings of USB hubs, no messy cables or setup changes. The data distribution card automatically registers the extra ASIC card and operates accordingly. Up to 4 cards can be stacked in this way. Simple, convenient, efficient. Just add more processing power when you want to. You can then be running at 86.4GH quite easily, expanded up from your initial investment of 21.6GH. Nothing to resell, nothing going unused.

If you wish to expand beyond 4 DrillBit boards to achieve even higher hashrates, the DrillBit system can accomodate this also with the backplane system. The backplane is a large distribution board that the ASIC cards plug into individually. So if you want to run much higher hashrates, you can get a backplane and fill it with ASIC cards as you decide to buy them.. The same principle applies. Simple and efficient. You just plug in extra cards, and the system configures to the extra power. All versions of the system run conveniently from a standard ATX power supply, so it is easy to operate. You could also just run a number of card stacks from a USB hub, in much the same way as other systems offer, if you so desire. Or you could run multiple backplane systems from the same setup. With 16 cards in a backplane, you will have up to 345.6GH/s of hashing power.

Thats more than any other single miner on the market at this time. But the beauty of the DrillBit system is that you don't have to outlay all that cash immediately. You can get started on a smaller system of whatever size you like, and build as you are ready.

** A note on the hashing power of BITFURY chips. The chips have been demonstrated to have performance up to 2.7 Gh/s. This is what you can get if you overclock and run them at very high temperatures. The sweetspot for efficiency of W/Gh is more somewhere around 2 GH/s. We will have more info on this once we get more testing done.

The Drillbit board is designed with overclocking capabilities built in, so you will have control over how hard you run the chips. We will provide specs for recommended stable running rate, but in the end if you want to squeeze every last hash out it it, you will be able to so.

We will also be offering a thumbdrive version of the Drillbit System comprised of 1 chip, giving you up to 2.7 Gh/s. These will be nice and cheap. Pricing soon.

The DrillBit system is designed by Dan Stocks, an electronics phd with 30+ years in electronic design, highly experienced PCB designer, currently doing it as a full time job for a well known electronics manufacturing company.

+1... I was looking for exactly this.. someone putting more than one bitfury ASIC on a PCB.. good find =D

So this means that Bitfury is releasing design documents necessary for creating our own PCB gerbers???  Is anyone working 10x or 16x boards for these bitfurry chips?
186  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Press Release from BFL regarding the Monarch! on: August 22, 2013, 12:33:33 AM
Okay cool.. so they decided to put their new 28nm chip into a way over priced card and give a washy ship date like they did with the 65nm Chips.. When are they going to release the design specs for their "newest" ASIC chip so we don't have to pay their outrageous price for it on a PCB...

And they are not the only company with a Gen 2 28nm ASIC

http://www.cointerra.com/

Would I buy into this after the given history of shipping delays.. and blatant warning when they say you can trade back-orders for this... no.
CoinTerra is already dead in the water. Even at current prices, this will never ROI UNLESS you get it EARLY December. If you get it even January 1st, you're never making back your money in full.

And we all know how ASIC shipping goes.

I guess you haven't heard of this little company called Bitfury which is going to be the first company that will honor their timelines.

I do have high hopes for bitfury... but have they released documents on their chip design for the community to build boards for?

EDIT* Nvm looks like we can open source bitfury chips =D
187  Economy / Lending / Re: INVeSTMeNT oPPoRTuNiTY - BTCJam rep loan 0.25 at 10% ...thanks for looking! on: August 22, 2013, 12:09:21 AM
Don't credit cards in the central bank system work by.. you have no credit.. they give you a small loan on a card.. if you show a history of paying the loan you get bigger loans.. how is buying rep any different then that... Even with my identity attached to the card there is no way to make me pay that credit.. i could go to a number of other lenders and burn them.. buy a new identity with the burn money and do it all again.. risk is risk when lending.

Now I feel we should hold ourselves to a higher standard here in BTC than the other currencies so I understand the concern.

Main rule is don't give out big loans to noobs.. but you gotta throw them a bone sometime?

I will just reply with a "May banks die and suffer as much as the people who borrowed from them, when banks knew those people would default, and did bet on that."

Haha i feel you man... I hope our new currency doesn't enslave anymore... I fully support Stunna's  and anyone else's 0% interest loans with the full power of my homebuilt ASIC miners... which isn't much atm but i'm working on it =D

And for the record...I am trying to build rep on Bitcointalk "the old fashioned way" as well Cheesy

http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=271953.msg2913191#msg2913191

It is up to the lender whether or not they decide to give a loan.. not a thread.. not a community.. not a troll.

BTW i put my BTC into LTC to make a quick profit and would give you the starting loan if I had not.. I will check back later to see if you still need after LTC goes up a bit =D

regards.

I read some good news on bkkcoins's Klondike thread.. hopefully you guys will get yours soon too!

"zephir has now received a tracking number for his batch #2"
191  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: August 21, 2013, 10:06:48 PM
Hi,
@BKK
did you get the chance to test fully populated board K16 of the last revision?
We still do not have time to get on it as far we are busy.
Any update will be great

Regards: Martin

Github was updated but it is not enough for most of us

Github was updated 6 days ago with a driver-klondike.c file... looks to me like he is very busy and may not even have time to respond to all inquiries.. good news is avalon is shipping.. I will be getting the K1 board from Bkkcoins probably before I receive my avalon chips purchased from marto74's group buy.... I have one sample chip sitting on my laptop from sebastianJu... when the K1 arrives I will work on modding the k16 driver to work on the K1.. and if that works then his K16 code is probably working quite well.

Are people actually thinking of buying this crap? (Monarch).

Yes I do, but I will wait when it will be ready to ship product and then I decide.

By the time you wait for them to ship they will have a new card that you will again.. wait to buy.. its a loop with no break value really
193  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Best MotherBoard for Butterfly Labs Monarch PCI card? on: August 21, 2013, 09:05:28 PM
i just cant believe some people in this thread are actually thinking of preordering with bfl after knowing its track record

All we can do is try to warn people who may be new to buying into ASIC technology...

I made a relevant post in this thread about how BFL is not the only company with a Gen 2 28nm ASIC.... like they claim.

people should mind their own business, jeeze.

ok well sorry if this was done wrong, my bad. i wont be asking for loans ever again anyway. ill go the old school way of building trust.

Thanks to Vox tho for sure, you rock man.

where are you located anyway? im in ontario canada. near toronto.

Haha it is rough here for sure... and NP.

I am currently living in Los Angeles where I will be attempting to assemble my own K16's boards with Avalon Chips (if they ever ship).  I'm attempting the home re-flow method of cooking the PCB on a skillet... best you can outside of the foundry =D

I will also be setting up a free assembly service for those interested in ASIC mining.. If and only if things work out on my sample boards.

Wish us luck!

i left you some positive trust too!

Just remember, everyone will ignore the positive trust because it was a trust loan. Roll Eyes

Also, you did NOT risk .1 BTC on voxelot. It's inaccurate trust.

This is correct and we need to be careful too.. I don't want people to read a trust review for a loan of 0.1 BTC and get confused and think that was a lot of money... I don't foresee anyone looking at my trust in the future however.. I am an open source mining developer not a lender.. but I like to do good things where possible.

Regards, Hope everyone had fun!

sorry to put you in the position. i had no idea its a negative trust thing? seems pretty ridiculous to me...

oh well. payment incoming!

No problem..I am new here too and had no idea this was an issue.. thanks again bakada for filling us in.  And I am not worried about getting flagged for bad trust.. I will be keeping this account.. I don't plan on taking out anymore loan than the one I have.. and I plan on giving loans whenever I feel like it.

Payment received! Thanks for the tip keenan84!

Regards!

Hey sorry I forgot my laptop at my office so I'm just checking on my phone now. It's a pain in the ass. Haha. Ok no problem man. Tuesday works fine. Thanks!

What the F? You really think he was serious with the 1337 loan ? I guess you should trust co-workers, after all.
lulz.

Here's how fuckin 1337 sauce I am... i'm going to send this asshat money anyway.. consider it a gamble.. if you think 10 bucks is a lot of money well... i'm trying to fix that =D

This thread may provide some lulz to the forum and I am more than happy to donate 10 USD to that!

EDIT - even if the lulz are at my own expense   Shocked

I'm sure a specific member of the community will be along to flag you for enabling any moment now.   Apparently its a -trust event.

ohh well thanks for the warning bakada.. i said i would and i stick by my words =D
199  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Thought on the future of mining? on: August 21, 2013, 03:51:12 AM
its simple,

Mining it self its DEAD!

So if you just join the Bitcoin Rush, its to late, that mountain is empty....

The "mountain" isn't estimated to be empty until the year 2140 or 21 Million BTC has been mined... i still see mining as an option.

I am one of those hoping to get our Avalon chips so we can burn to our homemade and K16 boards... keeping the initial costs down to help return "ROI" which for me is all about stacking as much BTC as I can..

If Avalon does not ship and companies that develop next gen ASICs do not allow the open source community to work from their specs.. then yes we may never be able to mine again and the greed of a few will continue to hammer the "mountain"

Yes, Im aware of that.

I was saying that if   last year you invested lets say $2,000, you would of have made your ROI back and profits on top of that by now.

Now if You invest $2,000 you will NEVER make your profit back now. Therefore the mountain being empty to become profitable.

I purchase an Old Gold mine 2 years ago here in Arizona, it still has Gold but its not profitable to invest 10,000 to be able to mine it.
--- But I do go in their once in a while with some dynamite, I have so far only found a little bit, its verily covers the cost of the tnt. But its fun to blow shit up...

Absolutely.. you have to be careful where you invest on these things with the way they are shipping tthem.. I have only invest like $300 on my chips and I may never see that money again due to the way they have been holding back on chips vs the difficulty raising... I'll let you guys know if things work out!
