181  Economy / Lending / Re: 1 btc loan for groceries? on: November 04, 2013, 05:06:47 PM
Hi Arklan,

Any update on the first payment?

Thanks,

Well, my workaround I mentioned? Was buying second life currency to exchange into Btc. But virwox, the exchange I know of that deals in both, doesn't accept my amex debit card, where my money was. So, after some looking, I bought the currency in the game directly, expecting to transfer it out to the exchange.

This apparently isn't allowed.

So, next thing I do is withdraw that money to my PayPal.

At this point, the company who runs second life locked that account for suspicious activity.

I'm currently waiting on their response to my submitted identity verification...

I mine about .02 Btc at current difficulty, so at a minimum I have that...

I'm Aledo going to find a way to get my money off that amex (where my paycheck goes) and on to PayPal, which I can use to buy Btc.

Stupid fiat, man... If I could get paid in Btc, there wouldn't be a problem.

excuses excuses  Roll Eyes

This loan doesn't make any sense tho, you got ripped off 3 BTC fine. You're now trying to get a loan... what if you lose it are you busto in real life? if you have funds in real life just buy some coins.

i started mining with 2 usb asic for about a day, then i had 6 more come so i have 8 in total. over 3 1/2 days i have had about 4-5 hours down time when i had to change hubs and mess about with the setting.
but i have earned the grand sum of $3 about £2  Grin. even though i have used more electric to run them then they have earned i want to buy more  Grin.
does this amount sound about right.
 Grin Grin Grin

Thats right, but you paid more electric to run then what you earn.... might wanna consider stopping it Smiley

Is it safe to have people send BTC right to your wallet? What would the advantage be of using Bitstamp.net?

What exactly do you mean?
Bitstamp.net is an exchange, those aren't really meant to be used as online-wallet.
Use a wallet at blockchain.info instead, that is quite safe.
(But onlinewallets are only as safe as the places where you login with your password)

Alright, so bitstamp is just for exchanging between currencies. Then is it safe for people to send you bitcoin right to your wallet?

Yes lol once it's sent it's yours.

Thanks for the information. In that case mining wont be profitable for the future? how about mining other coins like litecoin , primecoin and etc and then converting it into bitcoin ? Will that be profitable then?

Basically i am a Forex trading person and i want to invest my profits for the long time returns. Thats the reason i am trying into this. Could you suggest me some other mining which will be profitable for now and for long term.

You can't mine Litecoin with a ASIC.

Better to buy some coins and store them away on a paper wallet!

can law requires tax on bitcoins, btw

since i basically got these btc from a faucet and then gambled to 10 btc
should i report this as income .

Jesus lol

no need

it's 2 thousand bucks the tax people are not gonna hunt you down

spend it, rub it on your titties, give it to a homeless man.
197  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin TAX on: November 02, 2013, 01:38:44 AM
I was speaking about this earlier with a buddy from Canada with gambling wins and he said if you are a recreational gambler and you do it for fun and not as a main source of income then you don't have to pay taxes.

If you are a pro poker player / gambler then you have to sort of declare some sort of taxes I believe

But, you're gonna cash out in GC's / cash anyway so eh don't tell mr tax man and you'll be fine.

199  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 4x BitFury Chips STOLEN on: November 01, 2013, 10:29:41 PM
I had 2 BFL sample chips stolen out of my mailbox, along with an AVR Dragon in a separate package.

I'm pretty sure that whoever took them has no idea wtf either item is.

I don't wish them cancer or castration.  Instead I wish for them to see the error of their ways, and to learn to change them.

I guess I'm not very Russian at heart. Cheesy

Sad thing is they prob threw them in the trash because they had no clue what they did.
200  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Where's John K? on: November 01, 2013, 07:47:18 PM
I've spoken with an individual via PM that is going to get a message to John through RL channels.  Best-case, he will resolve the escrow situation and post a brief "I am still here, no need to worry" message by the end of this weekend.  If that fails to occur, I'll be revisiting this issue on Monday, looking for more recommendations for next steps and timelines from this community.

I'd like to extend a deep, heartfelt thanks to everyone that offered suggestions or help in this so far, no matter how small.

-Chainsaw

Just curious, what was the trade for?
