181  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin. Is. Awesome! on: July 27, 2014, 04:11:29 PM
I've been lurking for a long time and figured I would finally post Wink

I have got to say that Bitcoin is totally awesome! I just purchased some bits and hosting all from my Nexus 5! The even more awesomer thing? I didn't have to enter any personal information! (Well, not entirely true: I did at Coinbase so I can buy bits instantly Smiley)

Anyway, thanks for creating this wonderful community.

Welcome.
Next time, you could buy bitcoin with face-to-face trades through localbitcoins, and you don't need to give any personal info to the bitcoin sellers. Cheesy

You can only get upto a max of 14 activity points per two week period. The next period starts on June 10th. The following will be a timetable for you providing you make the required posts:

1 X 14 = 14 You are here now
2 X 14 = 28
3 X 14 = 42 Jnr Member [June 24th]
4 X 14 = 56
5 X 14 = 70 Member [July 22nd]
6 X 14 = 84
7 X 14 = 98
8 X 14 = 112
9 X 14 = 126 Full Member [sept 16th]

I'm a bit confused because your numbers indicate earning 14 activity per ONE week (but in your commentary you say it's a TWO week period). Which is it?

Each period is roughly 2 weeks long, or more precisely 1210000 seconds long (14 days 6 minutes 40 seconds). Smiley
I don't think they change exactly two weeks of you being active. They follow a schedule, I registered and got 14 activity and days later, after I post it increase to 28 activity. It isn't exactly two weeks but you have to be active during that period of last activity increase to the time of new activity increase.

So it takes 3 months to be a full member.

You should realy re-consider is it realy worth getting into this in the first place.
Since you need your member rank to upgrade, you need alot of time, and campaigns are paid in bitcoin, which is going down, and prolly will continue to go down in the following months, you could end up getting far less than you originaly thought ure gonna get.
Hope u make the right call, and earn, but i just dont see it happening through sig. campaigns.

But people come to forums for discussion even when there is zero financial incentives.
IMHO, we should consider the sig campaign payment some sort of bonus rather than a job. Smiley

Also there are factors that the mining calculator doesnt factor is daily/weekly increase etc.

Are you talking about the bitcoin price or difficutly?
For difficulty, there are calculators that handle difficulty change correctly (you can set the % change every period of 2016 blocks).
For price, IMHO, you should compare buying bitcoin miner and buying bitcoin directly, and so the bitcoin price shouldn't really be considered...

This doge coins getting really popular.

Doge coin was popular but now it's dead how ironic.

It just tells you "4 months" is already a very long period in the crypto-world.
It also tells you how difficult it is to predict the price of altcoins and how risky it is to invest in altcoins. Wink
185  Economy / Digital goods / Re: UK BITCOIN DOMAIN NAMES FOR SALE on: July 27, 2014, 03:46:11 PM
I believe you should move your thread to Marketplace > Goods > Digital goods (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=93.0), and you should find buyers more easily there. Smiley
186  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 51% problem still existant after all coins have been mined ? on: July 27, 2014, 03:40:36 PM
cex isn't worth it, there are much more profitable cloud mining services

That's true, and I don't suggest anyone to use it at all, because of the high price.
I mention it just because we were discussing about the 51% attack and Ghash.io (Cex.io and Ghash.io are indeed the same company). Smiley
187  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Everyone of my friends says the same: "How do I get Bitcoins?" on: July 27, 2014, 03:36:14 PM
"Help, I have no money, five hungry kids, I need money to buy bitcoins". It's a new approach, it could work. Make sure you have a largish qr code for a paper wallet, in case a journalist comes by.

It is indeed much simpler than that.
This guy (http://www.coindesk.com/sports-fan-gets-over-20000-donations-bitcoin-address-sign/) got over 22 btc in just 2 days by simply showing a banner with a QR code in front of the camara. Smiley

They do charge maintenance fees, they deduct from your mined amount.

True, but they could still charge those maintenance, electricity and hosting fees for people mining elsewhere with the cex hashrate.

They have previously planned about this but they did not implement it at all. Also, I don't think it is possible since they do not assign individual hardwares to each user.

Hmmm I haven't considered this before, and that could be the actual reason.
If someone buy just 10 GH/s on cex, I am not sure how cex can deliver exactly 10GH/s to other pool, say Slush, for that user.

You do realize it will just change your perception on others, not the other way round, right?
190  Other / Meta / Re: Ban copy-paste spammer RDMINER on: July 27, 2014, 03:22:12 PM
Already did, saw your reports.
Is this a perm ban or was he only banned for some temporary period of time? There are several reports of him copying other people's posts on the PD signature campaign thread.

PD sig campaign thread? I don't see the bot account has PD ad in his signature, or did he remove the ad shortly after getting reported?  Huh

Yes, permanent. No mercy for bots.

Good decision. Cheesy

cex.io have said they arent intending of launching an attack.

I don't have any info on this, but I found the following thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=327767.0) that mentioned Ghash.io did try to double-spend against a casino...
That was from a long time ago, they already clarified that it isn't them but a previous employee. However, the fact that they refused to take actions to lower their hashrates except to warn people is suspicious. I don't think by posting on Twitter or here would influence much people to move away from their pool.

I don't really understand why Cex doesn't allow its users to point their hashrate to other pools and thus easily lower the Ghash hashrate.
Ghash doesn't charge a pool fee AFAIK, so they should get no benefits from forcing Cex users to mine on Ghash...

Well lucky you man use it wisely!
good for you, mate
Don't sweat it, enjoy the unearned loot Cheesy

You should really read OP's other posts in this thread as well...OP can no longer use or enjoy his bitcoin now...

Bye the way I was talking about litecoin, not bitcoin difficulty. I never mined bitcoin.

The LTC difficulty has been rising not as fast as BTC, but I guess it will be a completely different case when the new generation of powerful scrypt ASICs are delivered. Smiley
Litecoin isn't as stable as BTC is, it can crash anytime soon. Also, if they would be mining scrypt coins, they would use a multipool instead of just LTC to maximize profits. BTC however, is a different case, there isn't much stable SHA256 alt coins and their difficulty would rise very fast.

Very true, and indeed LTC crashed already from $48 in Nov 28 to $7.7 now on btce. https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/btce/ltcusd
For comparison, BTC dropped from $1100 to $590 now on btce. Smiley

My boss lives in Florida USA, and wants to pay my wages in Bitcoin..I live in NZ! What is the best exchange for him to buy from, and where can I exchange back into NZD my end?
PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP???

Do you work in the IT industry?
It is really interesting to see a boss wanting to pay his employees in bitcoin. Smiley

I can find 3 NZ local bitcoin exchanges on the page http://howtobuybitcoins.info/nz.html.
Maybe you could do a little more research on them to see if they are legit.
Ofc, you could use the big ones like bitstamp and btc-e that others suggested.

You can check my blog, have some list of faucet, and their payout, so you can calculate is it really worth your time, i also have list of paid btc hyip , www.artibitcoin.com , its in indonesian but i provide translate widget on the right side

I have checked your blog just now. It is good to see that you have included the pay rate of those sites, but for some sites it doesn't reflect the whole story.

For example, you have put "upto 0.3BTC" for freebitco.in. It is true, but the chance to get that is just 0.005% and you can only get slightly more than 300 satoshi each time very likely. Smiley
197  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crossed 500 USD - Bull Market returns ? on: July 27, 2014, 02:22:30 PM
595 on bitstamp?? what the fuck is going on now? the last day we are on 600+ save those altcoins in the future and let btc regain its price to the highest point
well im just sad
Now already going more down and now touching 589 and as its going I fear it will go more down

No worries. Strong support at the $590 level. 100 day EMA, 38.2% retracement of the May rally, 78.6% retracement of the most recent rally. Then very strong support at the $560 level as well.

I don't really understand all these technical analysis stuff. Are there any sites or books about TA you could recommend?

199  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much is a normal amount to mine a day? on: July 27, 2014, 02:16:46 PM
Yea I used to be mining about 0.01 BTC a day (on clevermining.com) with a nice gaming computer (desktop of course), but now with the summer and the trash difficulties, I had to stop mining. It made my room hot and I would only make about 0.002 BTC a day, which is only a fraction bigger than what the electricity costs.
Why did it go down so drastically?

The difficulty today is 18,736,441,558 while the difficulty a year ago is 31,256,961.

The difficulty is 600x higher, and so the mining revenue is 1/600 of what you used to get a year ago. Wink
Wow it is hard to believe that difficulty has gone up that much in just one year. I guess that is what ASICs will do to the network.

And so the difficulty increasing rate is the biggest factor in determining the ROI of buying ASIC.
If you have ignored or underestimated it, you will get a big surprise and possibly a big loss. Smiley
