181  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What steps must one take to verify if an emerging alt-coin is legitimate? on: December 27, 2013, 04:02:00 PM
A few point to consider:
- check the specs, if they are copycat of others stay away
- check who posted the spec, if he has the name of the coin stay away
- check who posted the spec, if he has less than 100 post stay away
- check the initial difficult, if it's close to 0 it's a dump and dump
- check what other says, it's the best if you have no idea (also the worst because you want to make a move without having an idea)
182  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: worldcoin undervalued? on: December 27, 2013, 02:33:10 AM
From your link:

Quote
The value of Worldcoin is expected to spike drastically by February when they become the first Altcoin to sell directly to the public without having to first purchase Bitcoin. Thereafter, Worldcoin will no longer be tied to Bitcoin's violent swings in price.

1) Why people should buy WDC? You can't do anything with it.
and 2) WDC no longer be tied to BTC? Keep dreaming!

It has no credibility, it was premined, or millions have been mined at launch with ridiculous difficulty
Surely creators and friends have a large sum and they are ready to dump it at the right moment
183  Economy / Speculation / Re: China 31st of January on: December 27, 2013, 02:28:03 AM
[...]
1.) This is already built into the price, and those in China who wanted to sell have already, and nothing will happen on January 31st.
2.) The weak hands in China were the ones who sold leading to the recent drop in price. The strategic investors are holding until the price rebounds (already under way), and are going to dump in the weeks before the deadline. China is out.
3.) The weak hands in China were the ones who sold leading to the recent drop in price. The strategic investors will continue to hold, and will move underground to trade Bitcoin.
[...]

BTCChina is currently 8% less than gox, but who is able to withdraw from gox anyway? I wouldn't even try to submit a SEPA from gox.
I think number 3 is the most probable, China might come back on their decision and decide the heavy regulate (and tax!) Bitcoin, both trading, capital gain, and e-commerce, giving it no chance to compete with the usual markets
184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Buying 30 LTC for 1 BTC on: December 27, 2013, 02:17:26 AM
I don't appreciate the attacks on my integrity. It's simply hard to get started when you don't have a résumé. (Much like the real world)

Dude, I perfectly understand, why don't you use a well recognized escrow from this forum?
Also, where do you live? You could also use localbitcoins
But let me reiterate:

Hint: you can just go to BTC-E and buy! But then you can't scam anyone, right?  Wink
185  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why I think bitcoins are a bad investmen at these high prices. on: December 27, 2013, 01:43:11 AM
Edward50, you say that $20 > $40 is a better investment than $1k > $2k only because we are well over $40, it's a psychological limit you have.

[...] You mentioned something in one of your posts about the core developers forcing the exchanges to behave a certain way, but I didn't understand what that would look like or how that could be accomplished.

core developers can't force anybody to do anything really. Consensus drives Bitcoin
186  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SWAG] Swagcoin | launch planned for 30 December 2013 | only 10,000 coins! on: December 27, 2013, 01:34:34 AM
Agree with Boxman90, pool at launch only increases the risk to have a fork as it's likely that one pool will be over 50% of the total hashing power.
Also, I would rework the total numbers a little bit, 10k coins might attract a few noobs but it doesn't change anything. Look at bitcoin with 21 millions and we are talking about changing the unit to mBTC. A coin valued 0.001 BTC when you can mine 1 a day is not worth more than another valued 0.00001 if you can mine hundred times more
187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cold Storage Wallets on: December 27, 2013, 01:25:26 AM
You can also upload the wallet in the cloud, like dropbox or similar but make sure you use a very strong password.
Please also note that if someone ever get your wallet.dat without password he will be able to spend, he just need access to 1 copy, and you will not be able to do anything.
Best Luck :-)
188  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Unique Paper Wallet Pattern Generator on: December 27, 2013, 01:20:53 AM
The wallet look very nice and the site is decent, I will use it to create a few paper wallet, def. the best patterns I have seen so far.
I have ordered a cheap inkjet printer only to print some wallets, do you think the inkjet is going to last for long? Or should I use a laser printer?
I particularly like the fact that you have added the following alert to your website, well done!

189  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's your next trading move! Mine is... on: December 27, 2013, 12:42:13 AM
Mine will be... holding as usual! It's too difficult to predict market moves with such a low volume.
And the idea of selling at $900ish is a bit dub considering ATH is much higher
Not sure you can time the market that much nowadays unless you are a professional and have the instruments to do so (time, stop loss, etc.)
190  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: There are so many copycats of Bitcoin. Do you think any of them will succeed? on: December 27, 2013, 12:39:08 AM
What copycat means? all alt cryptocurrencies ? sha only? obvious scam coin with nothing changed except a few parameters?
The question is not very clear... anyway I think some will remain for a few more months but none will take LTC place
191  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why Did The Chinese Government Crack Down On Bitcoin? on: December 25, 2013, 11:51:51 PM
China is not a democratic country. It is a communist dictatorship....
far too simplistic a rendering of a country with over 1000 languages, dude...

It's not simplistic, it's the truth. I agree with bryant.coleman
We are controlled by our govts with money, how much we earn and how much we spend to survive.
Remove the control over money and people will be free to do whatever they want with their life.
192  Economy / Speculation / Re: I will not Die Untill Bitcoin will reach at Least 50K on: December 25, 2013, 11:39:17 PM
Mhh I think $10 to $1300 is much more doable than $1300 to $50k.
Not that this will absolutely not happen, eventually it will with time but it's a very long run!

I would bet that $50K/BTC will be after 2 reward-per-block halvings (~2020 year).

Probably we will see the biggest jump around that period.
With new ASICs coming to the market it could be very soon
193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which coin will be the best investment for 2014? (Newb Edition) on: December 25, 2013, 11:26:35 PM
Best coin has not been realized yet. It will be a dump&pump doge scam like. That's where you make real money, or should I say BTC?
Anyway, I chose LTC, we already saw the trend during the last bubble, it's here to stay

Don't forget the CAT!

meeeooow
194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Dogecoin ever be more than a joke? on: December 25, 2013, 11:18:48 PM
To me it's already no joke. Was one of the early miners. Was able to get 1 000 000 Doges before the difficulty became unbearable. To a poor old miner like myself this is striking gold! Sold off 900k when the first peak came, never been this rich in my life. Holding 100k Doge just in case it tenfolds it's value, again.

..Or probably it won't! It's no-doge-spammers revenge ahahah
Have fun and Merry Christmas :-)

195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to ruin Dogecoin on: December 25, 2013, 11:15:38 PM
They didn't do this from the get-go? Hmmm. What kind of amateurs built the thing? Is it a hack-job by people who didn't know what they were doing?
-MarkM-

I hope that was a rhetorical question LOL
As for doge noobs, you got what you deserved, I guess nobody will fix this
Let's the sell panic begins...
196  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Former CIA chief: Snowden should be “hanged by the neck until dead” on: December 25, 2013, 02:48:22 AM
Snowden has just started, there will be some for every country in this world.
I hope he and the media will be able to handle it

I don't have any problems with the Russians as long as they don't spy on people who live outside their country. What they do to their citizens, is their problem.

Are you for real?
197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Dogecoin? on: December 25, 2013, 01:25:48 AM
Maybe there are a few weeks left but it will join the rest eventually.
Don't hold into it for much longer, it is worthless :-)
198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PRELAUNCH] Catcoin - Scrypt meow! on: December 24, 2013, 03:02:40 AM
Don't bother mining on catpool.co, not a single payout in hours.
The Admin keeps saying is looking at it, sure! 45k coins gone meeeow!
199  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-12-22 ZD Net - CryptoLocker's crimewave: A trail of $$$ in laundered BTCs on: December 23, 2013, 03:23:03 PM
You can always reformat the computer, right?

Yes. But what if your personal files are seized and you can't use them?

reformat and load the backups?

and what if cryptolocker has fun with the backups as well?
don't tell me that you expect average consumers to have offline backups?
200  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: My dumb question for the month of Dec on: December 23, 2013, 03:09:54 PM
Ehm Hi! :-)

I think you should read a bit more or may search some videos on youtube?
Maybe check here http://bitcoin.org/en/how-it-works and click a few links?

Long story short.. bitcoin is decentralised so there isn't any main server
