Not with btc i think  Huh

Guess not.  Couldn't even move coin around right.  I mean, so. much. fucking. FAIL.

@SebastianJu:
Yeah, you could be right, and I don't know either.  The closest I got to electricity price shopping was opening ConEd bills Undecided
All I'm saying is people tend to grab good looking numbers and run with them as if they were facts, while the reality could be quite different.  The .02 could be available every other Wednesday when the moon is full.  The hosted customers have no cause to question it or complain because they never see the bill - they are paying $0.2669 regardless.

Sorry pull this off on a tangent - there are much heavier-weighted variables than electricity cost for ASIC mining right now.  The difficulty growth rate is going to escalate over the next few month - a bunch of big players are just starting to ship.  Discussing electricity costs with no silicon to use that electricity, no power consumption data that could be taken seriously (Ken's claim that he'll be using the same boards for his 55 and 28nm chips show that he's either clueless or lying, making the rest of the stats meaningless).
186  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread [Self-Moderated] on: January 30, 2014, 09:12:40 PM
there is no power in the USA that is 1.7 cents.   When you buy a lot of power there are capacity charges, transmission charges and energy charges (there is other bs too but this is the bulk of it).   Capacity charges are based on the MOST electricity you used in the last 12-18 months (depending on your area) and it pays for the capital equipment of the power generator (hydro/nuclear have high capacity charges and low energy charges but it is a blend of all the plants that make up the power in that region), transmission is based on the utilities capital cost and is slightly lower when you take 460, energy is simply the variable cost of the electricity.
Most people are quoting the energy cost when they are throwing out these power numbers.   That is like saying the cost of driving your cab is only the gas you put in.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=186559.0

2 Cents but pretty near.

if you go to their pricing page, they seem to be charging $0.2669 ("CURRENT PRICING:  $0.085* per BTU [British Thermal Unit]   (Watts * 3.41 = BTU)).
I could be reading it wrong, here's the link: http://www.loopadoop.info/index.php?q=aHR0cDovL2JpdGNvaW5hc2ljaG9zdGluZy5jb20vcHJpY2luZy8%3D

Sure, they're including all of the services in that price, but they're charging by the watt nevertheless, meaning that if your rig eats double the electricity, it will be twice as expencive to host.
That makes the $.02 energy cost a sales gimmick - both unverifiable and irrelevant when *you're* actually paying ~$.27.

As an example, i can rent you a house and tell you that it's a great deal because my monthly costs are only $10, but then charge you $7,000 nevertheless.

this.  all of this.

finflof you haven't replied to my pm about why you think my my earlier posts were so out of order.

I find it concerning that you accept every word of this Mr Teal without question. His figures have not even been researched or cross-checked with the official figures as stated by Ken. Yet you agree with his every word? Every one?

Because MrTeal knows what he's talking about.. and you like apples.
189  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread [Self-Moderated] on: January 30, 2014, 07:05:53 PM
Nah.  Everything's fine.  Just hang in for a few more months, you'll be OK.
@shaofis: Ken already had like a few dozen cases and a couple of power supplies.  That's about all that you need to start a megafarm.
That and some faith.
190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CEO OF BITCOIN EXCHANGE ARRESTED on: January 30, 2014, 06:50:08 PM
Pirateat40 most likely cooperated in exchange for reduced/dropped charges.  If he had dirt to trade, he probably did.

There's no indication any criminal action was filed let alone settled.  There's no indication anyone but the SEC is involved, which has no independent power to bring a criminal prosecution.  If the government had settled, it wouldn't be on any less terms than a return of the stolen money.  However, the civil action over the stolen money is still proceeding in federal court.  There is no good reason to believe there was ever a criminal case for there to be a plea bargain.

There seems to be a surreal level of abstraction and disconnect on this forum when people talk abut law.  If you don't think TLAs shoot the shit with each other, or that people are not questioned and pressed for info without being formally charged, you are spectacularly uninformed.

Exactly what on Earth did I say that you decided to turn into this outlandish straw man and then attack?  I think I was very, very clear that other law enforcement agencies would, almost as a matter of course, have been aware of this case in some form or another and would have had to have made a conscious decision not to prosecute.  Read better next time, please.

I said that it is likely that Pirateat40 has provided information in exchange for reduced charges.
You went on to protest that, to your knowledge, no one but the SEC was involved.
If no charges were filed in exchange for information, what kind of evidence would you expect?

In case I'm not being explicit enough, an example you might relate to:
A cop stopped you for pissing on a dumpster, told you that he wouldn't write you up if you ratted out your buddy, which you did.  Just what sort of paper trail would that leave, exactly?

What is it that you disagree with in my original statement?

minerpart - this is one reason why I (and several others) think you need to step back.  you lose any shred of credibility when you try to argue with an expert.

I showed his statement which made the 1-2 PH plan look void to be 100% incorrect, with hard evidence. Thanks for the support.

I understand that you see yourself as a brave little David defending Princess Ken from the nasty Goliath.
UR not.

the information Ken has let out on chip timelines is fantastical.

The only fantastical statements are being made by you right now. You ignored the complete annihilation of your last piece of FUD but now you continue.

Ignored.

At 16gh/chip, to ramp up production requires approx. 500% less hardware than with bitfury chips, which means it should be possible to ramp up 500% faster.
...

Theoretically.  But you're dealing with Ken.

196  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread [Self-Moderated] on: January 30, 2014, 02:48:12 PM
...Also if anyone thinks that can "quietly" sell their shares, they are in for a surprise. I have already claimed 0.0009 to be the top end of the price range until 28nm is delivered, with the most likely range around 0.0001-0.0004.
...

Do you think that range will hold if Ken does get a 1-2PH farm up and running on the 55nm tech within Q2?

Sure.  Especially when Ken starts mining the moon for cream cheese.
197  Economy / Securities / Re: Mainline is angry that Ken is finally telling the truth and getting things done on: January 30, 2014, 02:46:32 PM
I) The last PR report was great

II) Once We are trading and miners get produced and go online some current FUDsters will be even more upset

III) Mainline-crumbs is very upset

IV) Once the CEO makes us all rich, crumbs-Mainline will find some new amazing angle and will not quit

V) We must not agitate crumb-Mainline any more because this will become a crisis for him

VI) Trading will begin soon

VII) Be patient

Ken also claimed to have kept some of the money in BTC, remember the preorders started coming in when BTC was worth $100-$200 each and we refund in FIAT value.

Ken has explicitly contradicted that today.  Look at his weekly post.

Quote
Hedge : We sell a bunch of hardware before a BTC crash. Our Mining revenue goes to crap, but we still made money to sustain the company until BTC prices recover and our mining revenue turns back into profit. Not really Hedge but a crappy insurance against a BTC crash.

Not following.  You have no mining revenue to speak of.  The money to sustain the company was spent on IP and two doods.  It's either profitable IP and two d00ds, or it's not.  If not, there is no scenario which makes it profitable.  You don't need to know tech details, and you don't need to take my word for this.

There's one knowledgeable guy who you can trust in this thread - MrTeal.  His tech info is spot-on and he is an EE (i think).  I don't personally know him, but have read his posts in the techy section.  If you have to accept anyone's word on trust (in techy matters), choose him.
199  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread [Self-Moderated] on: January 30, 2014, 06:05:11 AM
@Main

There are a few reasons (not always great reasons, but there are a few) that this company plans to sell chips that meet ROI.

1. We get the money faster through preorders that allow us to order more chips at cost for us to mine with. If we didn't do preorders then our only source of income would be mining and our mining farm would grow at a slower pace.

Ken claimed that he sold many millions worth of pre-orders for 28nm hardware that he doesn't have.  That money must be refunded (if real).
There are 0 pre-orders for 55nm gear/chips, and no pre-orders being advertised.  Not the reason.

Quote
2. Ken wants to sell hardware.

Perhaps.  Unfortunately, it's going to be difficult to sell it at a profit when AsicMiner is going to sell cheaper, more power-efficient chips.
Unless you're sponsoring Ken's hobby, a bad deal for you.

Quote
3. Hedge against a drop in BTC price.

How?

*The "we're using the same boards for both 28 and 55nm chips" is also utter bull.  Ask me why.

The guy has been lying to you nonstop, and people have been making up the most contrived and outlandish excuses to explain away those lies.  Come on.

If they're taped out, then they have money to see it through.
...

Wishing to sell after tapeout can mean a couple of things:  The chips are unprofitable or the people selling them are insane.
Never said they sold after tapeout. Maybe they sold prior to tapeout and that tape out was possible due to AMC funding it and not because People's ASIC funded it themselves.

Right.  And maybe Ken's actually a sentient gas from Transfalmaroon.  Everything is possible, I suppose.  Ken would have had to do moar lying to make this possible, but it's possible.
