181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 15, 2017, 07:37:28 PM
But wait you are the main person on this thread who wanted it done this way. I remember you defending this terrible method of distribution more than anyone else.

Why complain now?

It's too late and you realise the BB you got was laughable crumbs of crumbs of crumbs and the whales just got the whale shares like was supposed to happen.

Perhaps if you all  convince tony to block those wallets on the next phases it will help slightly balance it out. I'm sure even those ICO whales wont dare moan they had their noses in the trough the first round and got enough for free.

Lol, I was thinking the method is a fair one, at least it was not based on some fictitious things. But then I realized the ICO fund is an issue which I voiced my opinion. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Now I think it is more important for the development and adoption of the coin, with new projects etc. Since the purpose of the distribution is for making the coin better, I think the distribution should take into consideration of it.

There's nothing too late, only 10% distributed. I am sure Tony is looking for suggestions and may revise his plan as he always did.

It's planned already for the next snapshot. Compare to the first one, bytes holder will also receive bytes and blackbytes.

Yes but it is not what valley means, he meant to put some rewards for people who develop apps on byteball. Since byteball has smart contract, one can do dapps like those in ETH.
http://dapps.ethercasts.com/

We need to provide incentives for them, to boost value and awareness of byteball.

184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The greatest innovation? on: January 15, 2017, 07:24:00 PM
I think blockchain is a great innovation now people are finding more and more usage of it. From payment system, stock trading to housing market, basically anything with a contract can be done with blockchain which is more secure and tamper-proof.
185  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin is a good investment now, because... on: January 15, 2017, 07:21:26 PM
Bitcoin is a good investment because there are already many adoptions and more and more services and business will use it. More and more people will use it thus making it more and more valuable.
186  Other / Off-topic / Re: Who controls the Bitcoins? on: January 15, 2017, 07:18:50 PM
No one controls bitcoin, but in technical sense, bitcoin has 1 or 2 secret keys (private keys) that when possessed can disturb the bitcoin network seriously. These keys are controlled by the core dev of the bitcoin.
187  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Can bitcoin be frozen? on: January 15, 2017, 07:16:16 PM
The government can ban bitcoin in a country, like in the history in several country the gold is banned and in which case the bitcoin can not be used. So this this sense yes the government can freeze the bitcoin in a country.

190  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Tax v Bitcoins on: January 11, 2017, 07:40:55 PM
You don't pay tax by holding bitcoins, but you will need to pay tax if you sell it for fiat and make a profit, in which case it is like you sell a stock and same capital gain rules apply. This is the situation in US.
191  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Taxes on Bitcoin on: January 11, 2017, 07:37:58 PM
Hi Everybody,

When getting Satoshi/Bitcoins from the internet in general, could you please tell me whether you have to pay tax to the country you get them from or do you just pay taxes to your own country?

Thanks for your help.

In USA, Depending on what your doing with bitcoin, if your mining bitcoin you have to pay income tax on every cent you make. Also if the price of bitcoin goes up even 1 cent you also have to pay a tax on that called, Capital Gains tax. In your trading bitcoin, you may require registering for a "FinCEN" as it may be classified as money transmitting. As far as I know, these taxes must be payed based of the place you live no matter where you buy the bitcoin.

I don't think you will need to pay tax when you mine bitcoin. You are required to report tax only if you sell bitcoin to fiat. In which case it is treated like if you are selling the stocks, same rules apply.
192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Reason Bitcoin will always be #1 on: January 11, 2017, 07:35:22 PM
The reason the bitcoin will always be #1 is because it is the first innovative one, and also because it is the most adopted one that many services and businesses already using it.
193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's freaking 2017 - Do you own 1 BTC? on: January 11, 2017, 07:33:57 PM
Right now it is the good time to buy bitcoins, I feel that the bitcoin will go up in 2017, due to the fact more and more business and services adopt bitcoins, more and more people will use it thus drive the price.
194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Breaking News! PBOC inspects Chinese Bitcoin Exhcanges on: January 11, 2017, 07:32:13 PM
Not a bad news, Chinese try to hide their money in bitcoins due to the money export restrictions. The government will look into that for sure. This will make the bitcoin market healthier.
195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 11, 2017, 07:30:27 PM
Two news for today.

TOR support

Now all server based Byteball nodes can connect through TOR.  TOR support in GUI wallets will be added in one of the future releases.  TOR is supported in:

- merchant https://github.com/byteball/byteball-merchant
- headless wallet https://github.com/byteball/headless-byteball

Since Byteball merchants operate in chat interface (unlike web sites), they already don't have to accept incoming connections, therefore don't have to have a publicly known IP address, and TOR support means that they also can hide their IP addresses when making outgoing connections.  This allows them to be completely hidden.  At the same time, customers don't have to use TOR to chat with the merchant bot.

Being able to completely hide one's IP address is even more important for server based wallets that may store large amounts of funds online and be a lucrative target for attackers.  With the IP address hidden, the attackers simply do not know what server to attack, or it is much harder to learn.  So, for headless wallets, TOR allows to achieve better security, not just anonymity.  This is used in the new product which is the subject of our second news today.

Exchange bot that allows to exchange BTC to Bytes and vice versa

The exchange is as easy to use as ShapeShift.  No registration required.  To buy Bytes, you start the chat, send Bitcoins, and a few minutes later you receive the Bytes.  Same for selling Bytes.  You can also create a pending order and hope to get a better deal.

The bot is running on testnet now, see the link at https://byteball.org/testnet.html (you'll need a separate wallet for testnet).

The exchange is trustful, it holds customers' funds, even if it is for a short time.  To minimize risks, the exchange runs through TOR, which makes its IP address unknown to the attackers.  Since it operates in chat and doesn't have to accept incoming connections, you can run the exchange bot even in your bedroom, with the added advantage of being behind NAT.

As another measure to minimize its liabilities and the associated risks, the exchange bot discourages pending orders that are too far from the market price by allowing withdrawals only in the opposite currency and by allowing to modify the order's price only when it accelerates its execution.

Full source code and install instructions are at https://github.com/byteball/btc-exchange.

Please test the exchange on testnet by clicking its link at https://byteball.org/testnet.html, any feedback is appreciated.

Wonderful news, does the trading bot works for blackbytes too? I am interested in trading some blackbytes for white bytes...
196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 11, 2017, 07:28:50 PM

Is there a reason for the  specific number 2.1111 blackbyte for 1 byteball?
Why not just 2 for 1.

I think this is because of the denominators. Byteballs can be spent at any amount, not blackbytes. Blackbytes are like money, you can spend only use these denominators:

{denomination: 1, count_coins: 10,000,000,000},
{denomination: 2, count_coins: 20,000,000,000},
{denomination: 5, count_coins: 10,000,000,000},
{denomination: 10, count_coins: 10,000,000,000},
{denomination: 20, count_coins: 20,000,000,000},
{denomination: 50, count_coins: 10,000,000,000},
{denomination: 100, count_coins: 10,000,000,000},
{denomination: 200, count_coins: 20,000,000,000},
{denomination: 500, count_coins: 10,000,000,000},
{denomination: 1000, count_coins: 10,000,000,000},
{denomination: 2000, count_coins: 20,000,000,000},
{denomination: 5000, count_coins: 10,000,000,000},
{denomination: 10000, count_coins: 10,000,000,000},
{denomination: 20000, count_coins: 20,000,000,000},
{denomination: 50000, count_coins: 10,000,000,000},
{denomination: 100000, count_coins: 10,000,000,000}

That's how 2.111x10^15 come from.
197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Newcoin on: January 11, 2017, 07:24:54 PM

198  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are your thoughts for Bitcoin in 2017? on: January 07, 2017, 08:02:10 PM
I am still very bullish on bitcoin despite recently crash. Bitcoin is in long term upward trend and the percentage of people using bitcoin is still very small. It will increase over time with more adoptions. The price will go up in 2017.
199  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Best way to cash out bitcoins and end up with USD on: January 07, 2017, 07:59:24 PM
I think theres no other way. Only if you are going to transact with a trusted person to exchange you coins into fiat. As they said localbitcoin is the best and your only way to do that. Other than, you will obliged to pay for tax.

But is localbitcoin safe? I heard some stories that are not so great. Anyone has experiences with it? Using exchanges like coinbase is perfectly safe, unfortunately you can't avoid tax, they do report to IRS like all stock brokers.
200  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Can I sell on coinbase. on: January 07, 2017, 07:50:34 PM
Hello, I bought about one hundred dollars worth a few months ago. I know I can buy things. Is it legal for me to sell back to coinbase. Im an American citizen. I'm not a merchant of any kind. Thanks.

Yes it is completely legal. If however you were from another country, then you wouldn't have been able to buy it in the first place. Coinbase just requires a verification for your payment information. I have it linked to my bank account to which it verified by sending a small amount of usd.

For people commenting about the taxes, thats another issue. Coinbase won't ban you if you don't pay taxes. The government will be the one taking action if you don't report your taxes.

coinbase is a good place to sell your bitcoins and the proceeds will go directly to the bank account you linked, however I think coinbase will report it to IRS, so you will have to report it in the tax return (like a stock sell). I don't know though what's the threshold amount they will report to IRS, anyone knows?
