Sindh govt to launch housing project for flood affected people with WB's assistance


Sindh government has decided to launch housing project for the flood-affected people in the province at a cost of 110 billion rupees with assistance of the World Bank. The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting between Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the World Bank team in Karachi.

The World Bank Country Director Najy Benhassine attended the meeting through video link. The Chief Minister informed that the government has already deputed teams to clear water from the flooded towns and villages, and the process is likely to be completed in one and half month.

The official Twitter account of the Government of Pakistan was "withheld" in India on Saturday.

The microblogging site said that the move was taken in response to a legal demand.

Currently, the account is not visible to the Indian users on the site.

According to Twitter guidelines, it withholds an account in case there is a valid legal demand, such as a court order.

This is reportedly the second time this incident has happened that the account has been suspended.

Twitter had suspended the accounts of several Pakistan embassies, journalists and state broadcaster Radio Pakistan in India back in June.

The banned accounts included accounts of the Pakistani Embassy in UN, Turkey, Iran and Egypt.

Meanwhile, the account of Radio Pakistan was blocked for highlighting human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIoJK).

Brits are Turning to Bitcoin as the Pound Plummets Against the US Dollar


According to a CNBC report, the pound sterling plunge was brought on by the U.K. government's announcement of a radical economic plan in a bid to boost the growth of the economy. According to analysts, the plan, which includes tax cuts, "spooked" investors causing GBP to fall around 3.5% against the dollar.

The fall is the closest GBP has come to dollar parity since 1985. While Britain's new prime minister Liz Truss prepares measures to address the situation, the Bank of England (BoE) has warned that the British economy is likely already in a recession, according to the report.

Rs20 per kg decrease in ghee, cooking oil prices

ISLAMABAD: With reduction in palm oil prices in the international market by 35-40 per cent, the Ministry of Industries has informed the National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) that they are expecting a Rs20 per kg decrease in the price of ghee/cooking oil in a month.

The representative of the Ministry of Industries on Wednesday informed the NPMC that there was a time lag of a couple of months, so the manufacturers were producing palm oil based on Goods of Declarations (GDs) cleared in June and July 2022. Then the exchange rate depreciation also played a role, so as per their conducted study, the price of ghee/cooking oil should be reduced by Rs20 per kg in the domestic market.

On the other hand, the prices of palm oil in the international market witnessed a decline from $1,500/ton to less than $1,000/ton, so the prices registered a decrease of 35 per cent. The prices of palm oil in the international market had touched $1,800 per ton a few months back and the prices in the domestic market had touched their peaks. It’s quite strange that the government has so far remained unable to reduce the prices in the domestic market.

An official statement Wednesday said that Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal chaired a National Price Control and Monitoring meeting in Islamabad to assess the implementation status of the decisions taken in the previous NPMC meeting. Chief Economist Dr Nadeem Javaid, officials from the Ministry of Finance, line ministries, FBR, Trading Corporation of Pakistan, Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan, PASSCO and representatives of provincial governments were present.

The planning minister directed the provincial administration to strictly monitor profiteering by taking all the associations into the loop to transfer relief to people. The Ministry of Industries stated that there is a significant decline in the palm oil prices in the international market. However, the impact of sharp decline in international market will be passed on with a lag in the local market. The minister directed the Ministry of Industries to ensure the deceleration in the prices of ghee/edible oil by Rs20 within the next month.

Bitcoin price chart



After forming a base above the $19,000 zone, bitcoin price was able to gain strength. There was a clear move above the $19,250 resistance zone and the 50-hour simple moving average. The price cleared a short-term contracting triangle at $19,250 on the hourly chart. It is now trading well above the $19,500 resistance. On the upside, the price is facing resistance near the $20,000 level. The next major resistance is near $20,500, above which the price might rise to $20,850. Any more gains might send the price towards $21,200.

On the downside, an initial support is near the $19,500 level. The next major support is near the $19,150 zone, below which the price could struggle to stay above $19,000.

Ethereum price chart



Ethereum price also followed a similar pattern after it was able to clear the $1,335 resistance zone. There was a clear move above a major bearish trend line at $1,335 on the hourly chart and the price settled above the 50-hour simple moving average. ETH is now rising and facing resistance near the $1,380 level. The next major resistance is near the $1,410 level, above which the price could visit the $1,450 resistance.

On the downside, an initial support is near the $1,345 level. The next major support is $1,300, below which price could test $1,250.

Ishaq Dar lands in Pakistan after five years

Dar is coming back to “facilitate” the government in its efforts to resurrect the cash-strapped economy by taking over the key portfolio of the finance ministry.

The top PML-N huddle, headed by party supremo Nawaz Sharif, decided on Sunday that Dar will fly out with PM Shehbaz.

Dar will assume charge as the finance minister on Tuesday and the current Finance Minister Miftah Ismail will continue to remain part of the government.
