182  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: When is best for a player to draw the line? on: April 19, 2024, 11:26:05 PM
In my opinion a responsible gambler should have a target maximum spending he should input into gambling and placing bets as well as his time spent. This is because if you decide to say that the best time to draw the line is when you win , meaning the gambler will have to bet continuously even if he losses consecutively till he finally achieves a win. And this isn't logically right. On the other hand if you also say a gambler should stop when he lost, you are actually also saying the gambler should continue to bet even if he is winning  till he loses forgetting that a single lost bet could cost him all the extra cash he had previously made from wins. This would not be a nice strategy especially for those that like to add the profit they got from their previous wins to their stake for the next bet.
183  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How does the game of luck in gambling really works? on: April 19, 2024, 11:06:54 PM
Literally speaking luck is something you can't predict , in fact that is why such activity is termed luck. When it comes to things like this , if you go through the perspective of mathematics probability is more like a way to try predicting outcomes of a particular event. Take a normal die for example , when tossed , mathematical probability suggests that the probability of getting a particular number is 1/6 meaning you should get that number at least once for every six toss. However in terms of luck, it is very possible to toss that die 10 Times and not arrive at that particular number Iin any of the tosses. Same way it is also very possible to get the same particular number consecutively in all 10 tosses. However the chances in both cases is very thin.
Same way luck in gambling can't really be predicted although before the results, every gambler usually hope that their bet was the jackpot.
184  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How can we help beginners not to get addicted on: April 19, 2024, 10:44:49 PM
I think majority of people who are addicted to gambling is because they do not understand gambling as beginners, the rules and the side effects of playing gambling excessively.
They do not understand or they let themselves be drown in gambling believing that they can gain huge. Because this is the usual reason of gamblers who became addicted. They can't stop playing, unable to control themselves due to this desire of gaining money. I agree that if these people (trying to engage themselves in gambling) are aware of the rules and the bad effects that it might cause if you gamble excessively then they can prevent themselves becoming addicted.
This is one of the major reasons some newbies fail in the gambling space or end up becoming addicts . When a person has the notion that gambling is an opportunity to gain money and become rich within the twinkle of an eye, because the think they will hit the jackpot then their psychology will obviously work in that direction. You find out that such newbies continue to stake heavily over and over again having high hopes that they will hit the jackpot in no time. And sometimes before the realize, addiction had already probably kick in. The truth is gambling is a supposed fun activity with the added benefit of extra cash when you make a a win and not some get rich quick scheme.
185  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who's winning more casinos or gamblers? on: April 19, 2024, 10:32:11 PM
Definitely. Both the casinos and bookies will grow, employ more workers and make more money. But that is if the gambling site is having traffic in a way that they have many gamblers. The gambler will gamble and lose money. Gamble again and lose more money. The casinos and bookies will be happy as they will have more money. So the answer to your question is that gamblers are the ones losing.

Definitely both are Gaining in their respective ways. This particular question is actually  a relative one in my opinion. This is because if only the gamblers are Gaining, and the casino is losing the casino will have no option or choice than to fold up. However, on the other hand if the casino is the only one gaining and the gambler is constantly losing, the gambler will either quit gambling generally or quit gambling with that particular casino. The only reason I think a gambler will continue staking and gambling over and over again even when he is losing consecutively is if he is obviously an addict.
186  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why do some people hide to gamble on: April 19, 2024, 07:46:34 PM
why some do some people hide just to gamble or if it is the best way to gamble ?.
it could be that gambling is illegal in your area and hiding in the corner is one way to discreetly do it without attracting much attention from other people, I mean, from my experience, I grew up in an area where people gambling on plain sight and what usually happens is that it attracts attention from people or other gamblers and in the end you'll have a lot of people flocking in one area which is very noticeable.
This is quite true. Most gamblers that hide do it because of the fact that gambling is probably banned in their country or region. However another reason that some gamblers hide to gamble is also because of cases where a majority of the people around them are gambling haters and therefore don't like anything related to gambling activities. sometimes these set of persons could be loved ones of the gambler or even people who are dear to the gambler and since they don't want these people to notice that they gamble, the end up hiding to carry out gambling related activities.
187  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: When you are not to gamble. on: April 18, 2024, 09:38:02 PM
There are soo many factors you have to consider as a responsible gambler before you engage in gambling activities or place gambling bets. As a matter of fact everyone is always talking about what a responsible gambler should do and actually knowing when and when not to gamble is a very important factor to consider. In terms of finance, a responsible gambler should be able to know when he should continue to place bets or stakes depending on the amount of cash he has spent within a particular period of time. Obviously, he should not allow his gambling expenses exceed the target limit he had previously put in place.
188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The effect Nigeria ban on Binance P2P traders on: April 17, 2024, 08:02:24 PM
Firstly Op this post is in the wrong board. Therefore I suggest you kindly move it to Niaja board since the Nigerian users there can best spot out the effects.
However, Nigeria has always had crypto currency ban issues and exchange relating issues for some time now. Ban of binance in Nigeria had many effects mainly because binance was the most popular exchange in Nigeria. Owing to that fact, a majority of short term traders in Nigeria made use of binance and ever since the ban these users have to move their coins to probably another exchange where the could continue their trading. Another problem was that some local traders even had accounts their for crypto repurchase as well as sale.
189  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Selling BTC for foreign currencies on: April 17, 2024, 07:52:08 PM
Firstly, if we are talking about legality, it actually depends on the countries involved especially if the country your are migrating from has a crypto currency ban or hasn't fully legalized the use of crypto. However you can easily make use of P2P to exchange your Bitcoins to your local fiat currency. And just like Cryptovator mentioned, you could alternatively use your local banks to exchange for the currency you want. Well if both countries accept crypto, it may not be necessary to do an exchange between fiat since you can just sell the crypto in the country you are heading to.

Some KYC exchanges also allow your to exchange Bitcoin straight to any local currency of your choice which you can pick up as notes if you have a bank of That currency.
190  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Airgapped device for Electrum installation on: April 17, 2024, 08:26:24 AM
If you really want to create an air gapped wallet, why take the risk of using a closed source wallet like windows with a lot of vulnerabilities and back doors. The problem with using closed source OS is the fact that you actually can't tell exactly what's going on at the back end. As for the formatting it's damn too necessary especially if that device has had an internet connection before. I my opinion, if you are making use of an old computer, it's better you even detach the networking hare wares making an internet connection impossible. Linux too isn't 100% safe if I can recall it was discovered sometime ago that there was a boot log vulnerability. However it's still far safer than windows and other closed source operating systems.

Although air gapped wallets are safe they are not 100% guarantee since keys can still be stolen manually , via criminal activities like burglary.
191  Other / Meta / Re: Why seeing merit on my post when I can not merit my own post on: April 16, 2024, 10:13:22 PM
Yes thats very true Op just like you won't find edit post button and delete post button on another users post except you are obviously moderator. If I get you correctly , what you are making is suggestion that there should be no merit button for self posts and threads.In that case I think it would be more direct to make the topic something like;
Code:
[Suggestion]Merit button for OP's posts

Anyways I am just a basic code writer so I really can't tell how difficult it would be to make such edit nor can I suggest way to edit it. Anyways let's just hope that theymos and the Bitcointalk developer team would consider this suggestion.
192  Other / Meta / Re: Reply without bumping? on: April 16, 2024, 06:34:26 PM
Replies seem to do that because of the fact that almost all forum members leave their forum page arrangements on the default which is sorting from post with earliest reply to those with the latest reply. Which is very nice too since if you want to be in a discussion, you would love to be in a recent discussion rather than an old one which has probably been abandoned.
As for now I don't think it's possible to reply a thread without bumping it. I also noticed some posts in some specific boards have a bump button at the top right corner so you don't need to make a post under that thread before it moves to the top. However I think threads that have that function can only be bumped once a week.
193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will increasing banking restrictions lead to a rise in P2P transactions? on: April 16, 2024, 08:39:16 AM
P2P has always been the best option for Bitcoin to fiat exchange and even exchange for one crypto to another especially when trying to avoid KYC.It was because of its easy and efficiency most exchanges  quickly copied it and added a KYC feature to make the lane man feel safe thinking their data is 100% safe with them like most exchanges usually say.

Now, what about crypto-to-crypto exchanges? Will government oversight and intervention restrict those. This could lead to decentralised swop services, and surely this is contrary to the wishes of the banking puppet masters?
As for this crypto enthusiast are all putting hopes that Bitcoin will be fully accepted by major world countries. Especially
in countries where the government view it as totally illegal. Also I believe it's already taking a positive turn since some countries have fully legalized it. In my opinion I believe decentralization is the reason why most governments are refusing to legalize Bitcoin in their countries.

194  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Installed Bitcoin Core with EXFAT Format SSD - MAC os - Have I F'ed up? on: April 16, 2024, 07:43:29 AM
Synchronizing Bitcoin core isn't an easy thing and apart from the time it takes it also consumes a lot of space and requires nice amount of RAM to run properly. Now since you have already successfully synced the node there is no need to delete it. Although APFS has a better performance for Mac systems than exFAT , exFAT also has the windows+ Mac compatibility advantage . Also  you have nothing to worry about especially if you switch your drive between mac an windows Os.
Currently the hard drive you made use of is quite ok giving the fact that it is SSD , meaning it has a smoother running performance compared to HDD.

One of the main things it think you should be most concerned about now is the RAM of the computer. To properly run a node smoothly you should be making use of at least 8gb of RAM in addition to an SSD hard drive. Therefore I suggest you make sure your ram is good enough to continue running that node to prevent lagging issues from low RAM.
195  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can Bitcoin be a full time career for investors? on: April 16, 2024, 04:19:41 AM
Yes it can especially as a long term Hodler. Bitcoin has shown great promising future as the top crypto over the years now. Compared to other altcoins, it is more stable and has more value plus the added feature of profit anytime there is an increase in price especially during halving. Being a short term holder in the Bitcoin space is also quite possible however the returns in terms of profit during long term hodling is more.
Take a look at people who have  been hodling Bitcoin for a least 10years. A vast majority of them are whales , many don't even have to work anymore as Bitcoin has kind of created a retirement benefit for them . The fact that longer periods of time increases Bitcoin profits earned is the reason people always prefer long term hodling to trading not to mention that it is much more easier.
196  Other / Meta / Re: Option to Allow / Restrict merits on the OP Posts on: April 14, 2024, 07:59:44 PM
I don't think this is necessary or needed. How many times are people going to not want merit. If someone feels a post is notable then let them have the opportunity to say so with merit.
This is very true because since merit is a form of progress on the forum, everyone would like to have it. I bet you from the highest merit earners to the lowest merit earners, all of them are quite happy when they earn merits. However assuming OP's suggestion was feasible, it would create an avenue for some users to attack certain posts tagging them as merit fishing just because the Op probably didn't turn off merit receiving from the particular post.
Just like The Sceptical Chymist mentioned, in my opinion also the merit system is quite ok as too many modifications would not be necessary. I believe theymos is aware of all these suggestions and isn't accepting most mods on the forum because of the effects they may have especially on the merit system.
197  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Going all in and losing the bet on: April 14, 2024, 07:48:45 PM
Lots of people struggle with this, not just gamblers. Winning big feels amazing, I know that from business. But, like any quick success, its gone in a flash. Some people might hate me for this, but without financial smarts, you're going to mess up, bigly. Its one thing to win, another to keep it. Those gamblers, they dont get the simple truth: its not about one huge win, its about not losing over and over. Thats real wealth, thats the smart way.
Winning is something all humans are happy about however especially as a gambler loss can't be totally avoided. Therefore to me able to maintain good gambling habits and practices, you should learn to be able to Also manage your losses as well as the emotional effect that accompanies it. Most times, when a person can't manage his gambling activities properly he may either end up becoming a gambling addict or even be viewed as one even if he isn't.
Since some persons are unable to hold the negative emotional effects that come with great loss, alternatively they can break their stakes into smaller units instead of making a single huge one.
198  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Another Electrum newbie with easy question... on: April 14, 2024, 03:48:54 PM
This is quite common with most wallets Op that max balance you can see is known as the spendable balance. In normal mathematical or literal sense , it's your total available balance minus the estimated fees required to spend it. In other words,
Fees + spendable balance = total balance.
In some wallets, especially mobile wallets the spendable balance is quite dynamic and changes based on the average transaction fees at that time. Meaning the higher transaction fees are the smaller the amount the wallet will estimate as spendable balance.

Also make sure to check if you are not viewing the balance of single child wallet instead of the total funds in all the child addresses.

200  Other / Off-topic / Re: What meaning do you find in scammer and spammer…..? on: April 14, 2024, 10:36:26 AM
A scammer is simply someone who pranks or deceives people. Now the decete usually has a particular goal . In the context of security especially on this forum, a scammer is simply someone who tricks people to steal important things from them like personal details which can be used to stalk them or even auctioned on the dark web, or even to steal funds from them which is very common.
However a spammer on the other hand, using the context of a forum in like this is someone who creates discussions or post of very low quality. More like someone who creates useless unwanted posts .

Scammers: Scammers and spammers are mainly associated with online activities.
This isn't right Op. Scammers can be found both online and offline. It is only spamming which is more on a writing context that is mainly related to the internet.
