Another issue, guys!

I got a payment for 0.01 BTC from an outside address, and after 7.5 hours the posts to the IPN are still saying "status=partial", even though the guys payment has 42+ confirmations now:

http://blockchain.info/address/15H4o6YdM4obyNSJY8fhKdRNfswppM4xL4

here's the last post you guys made, about 1.5 hours ago:

id=85792f12-ea6f-46a9-84d3-1bf034ca18cc&payment_id=c1a64f93-0a29-4f52-a834-becb0caea353&status=partial&amount_pending=1000000&amount_valid=0&amount_total=1000000&data=67&aonce=GAR9Z5UPH3C2RRYLDZG5

Forwarding it to the DEVs

Cool, thanks for the update to the docs / API!

A couple questions still.. it isn't clear from the docs, in the case of a non-mtgox bitcoin spend, there will first be an IPN call with a status=partial, correct? Then will there be another IPN call eventually with a status=paid? Will there by any others in between as more confirmations are received or just two, one at 0 confirmations and one at 6? Or more if they pay with various addresses and the btc are all at various states of confirmation?

Also, I did a test where I set 0.001 BTC  "by accident" for a 0.0001 BTC order.. I was credited the 0.0001 asked for instead of the full 0.001 that was actually sent. Where did the 0.0009 difference go? I think you should probably just pass on the full amount sent, even if it's more than the amount asked for, right? So the merchant can notice and refund the difference or credit the account or whatever? Or am I missing something? (transaction a37fc3b0-6564-46a6-86b1-310c532c61d3)

I just spoke to the DEVs and what you experienced will be fixed within 24h (The "Accident"). As for the confirmations, there are just two type either 0 or 6, nothing between. And finally the IPN for cancel orders are also coming shortly.

Thanks

185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Mt.Gox launches the definitive bitcoin checkout solution. on: March 09, 2012, 02:28:08 AM
The number of confirmations should be custom. For some things (an exchange) 6 is reasonable, for access to a cheap download it completely wrecks the service and ought be 0 confirmations. For most things that are being shipped customer should get a message that they are paid after 0 confirmations and the merchant should get the go ahead after 6 or whatever.

But I haven't even used it, maybe the definitive solution already allows this.

This configuration is to be set on the merchant side. Our Magento module (and any module we release after that) will include this setting.

Right now we only allow two values, either confirm payment at 0 confirmations (instantly when the transaction is seen) or at 6 confirmations. Note that when sending from an MtGox account, there is no need for confirmations.

Heya.. is the number of confirmations setting only in the Magento module or is it somehow settable in the API directly (or via settings on mtgox.com?)... I couldn't see any docs on how to do it via the API?

thanks!

We will add this IPN in the API so you should this that in the coming few hours (hopefully)

186  Economy / Trading Discussion / [ANN] Temporary suspension of HSBC Deposits on: March 07, 2012, 09:11:19 AM
https://mtgox.com/press_release_20120307.html

Dear Mt.Gox users,

This is a notice to inform you that we have temporally removed our HSBC deposit option from MtGox.com. We have noticed that many recent deposits to this account appear to be fraudulent, so we are being cautious while we investigate.

Althought HSBC deposits are currently suspended, all withdrawals from HSBC are currently routing without disruption. For the time being we invite our international customers to make deposits via our Japanese SMBC account and to avoid sending to our HSBC account.

Finally, we believe that we will be able to resume all deposits to our Hong Kong HSBC account at a maximum of two weeks.

Regards,

The Mt.Gox Team
187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [ANN] Mt.Gox launches the definitive bitcoin checkout solution. on: March 06, 2012, 02:15:52 PM
https://mtgox.com/press_release_20120306.html With Video tutorial.

Bitcoin brethren,

Since our beloved crypto-currency mushroomed in popularity last summer, we’ve seen many trail blazing merchants start accepting bitcoin; however admittedly, we haven’t seen the kind of bitcoin adoption in the online marketplace we expected to see. We feel this is largely because a critical element - a feature rich, quick to launch, checkout solution - was missing for merchants to easily start accepting bitcoin. With this in mind, we at Mt.Gox decided to take a kick at the can to see if we could dream up a solution that takes the head-ache out receiving payments in bitcoin. While we were at it, we also managed to find a way to remove all of the merchant-specific risk too...

We are pleased to announce the amalgamation of our efforts in the form of a definitive bitcoin checkout solution, and we’re finally ready to show it off in all of it’s bare-bones glory.

With Mt.Gox checkout merchants are able to easily integrate bitcoin into their existing e-Commerce platform. We’ll be kicking things off by offering a downloadable Magento plugin within the next 2 weeks, but plan to develop plugins for other popular e-Commerce solutions to bring bitcoin to all corners of the web. As for now, we have put up the documentation for early adopters on Mt.Gox’s bitcoin wiki page under the Merchant API section:

MtGox API: Merchant System

A little more about Mt.Gox checkout:

  • Transactions are ridiculously free
  • Customers can pay in BTC from their Bitcoin program (6 confirmations)
  • Mt.Gox account holders can pay from their Mt.Gox accounts, allowing for instant checkout (and impulse buys, oh my’s)
  • Pay instantly via Mt.Gox Mobile’s QR scanner (great for people who don’t want to pay from their office workstation!)
  • Split payment capabilities: Wanna go halfers with your buddy on alpaca socks...now you can!
  • Partial payments: If you don’t have enough in your bitcoin program, you can top off the payment with your Mt.Gox BTC balance (or vice versa)
  • (Soon) Bitcoin prices are displayed in real-time relative to the merchants listed price in a traditional currency (USD, EUR, etc.)
  • (Soon) An instant trade-on-receipt function that cashes out bitcoins in 1 of 16 currencies
  • (Soon) Easily embed the “Mt.Gox Checkout” button into your existing checkout page.

We are really, really excited to offer this solution to existing merchants, and know it will be a huge boon to the bitcoin marketplace over the next few months.

There really isn’t a reason to suffer using Paypal any longer; bitcoin is here in a merchant friendly package, so we invite you to see the whole checkout process: thanks to this video Mt.Gox e-Commerce Solution from MtGox on Vimeo.

Questions and feedback are welcome at checkout@mtgox.com

Regards,

The Mt.Gox Team

190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [ANN] Getting what you ordered, a new setting for traders. on: March 02, 2012, 08:28:11 AM
https://mtgox.com/press_release_20120302.html

TOKYO, JAPAN - March 2, 2012 - Today Mt.Gox is happy to announce the launch of a new setting for traders that will enable them to pay their buy order's fees in a traditional currency.

Until very recently all buy orders had trade fees included in the order, meaning that the total amount of Bitcoins traders intended to purchase weren't what was received as the final payout. With today's new setting traders can now choose how they want their fees for buy orders applied; fees can be taken directly from a traditional currency wallet (EUR, USD, JPY, etc.) or taken in Bitcoin as per usual. The benefit of choosing to take fees from a currency wallet is that you will receive the exact total of Bitcoins you intend to purchase.

E.g. If you select "Fees taken from cash balance", and put in an order for 10 BTC @10.00 USD each, you will receive 100 BTC in your Bitcoin wallet as the payout (whereas before it would be 99.4 BTC)

Also please note that if there is an insufficient cash balance to cover the fees, they will taken from the total amount of purchased Bitcoin (as per usual).

In order to take full advantage of this new feature, please go to your account's user settings page by clicking your username, and see the “When paying trade fees” option in the preferences section.

Regards,
Mt.Gox Co. Ltd Team.

191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Public appeal to MtGox regarding the recent robberies ! on: March 02, 2012, 05:13:11 AM
Seems like somebody is selling a great deal of coins right now on your market MtGox, giving the rapid price decrease. A few robberies have occurred lately on Linode involving Slush's pool, The Faucet, Bitcoinica and others, so those great amounts of coins could be theirs.

So i'm asking you guys, please, for the community's best interest, provide some public info or investigate on the issue and give those people a chance to recover their money somehow. I know this could damage the profits you could make right now but you will get our appreciation in long term and keep having the great reputation you have.

As far as we can tell the Bitcoin sold on Mt.Gox are not stolen ones and there are few chance that these coins will be ever sold via our network/Mt.Gox
192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Thanks to bitinstant transfer your TradeHill balance to Mt.Gox at no cost! on: February 23, 2012, 10:37:42 AM
Dear users,

We would like to update you on our promise to cover transfer fees for those users wishing to move their funds from TradeHill to Mt.Gox via BitInstant.

Unfortunately, while we did intend to fully cover all transfer fees for migrating TradeHill customers, an abrupt and unexpected change in TradeHill policy, most notably in their fee schedule, has forced us to revise our offer.

We now wish to offer any TradeHill customers the following:

Partial Transfer Fee Coverage: Users who transfer any amount from TradeHill to Mt.Gox via BitInstant below $800USD will have their transfer fees partially paid for  by Mt.Gox. Fees will be covered up to the value of 1.25% of the total funds transferred to Mt.Gox.

For example, if a user transfers $100USD from TradeHill to Mt.Gox via BitInstant, they will pay $1.25USD less in transfer fees.

Total Transfer Fee Coverage: Any amount greater than or equal to $800USD transferred from TradeHill to Mt.Gox via BintInstant will have all transfer fees waived by Mt.Gox.

Once again we sincerely apologize for this change to our initial offer, but TradeHill’s new policy on this matter forced us to drastically revise our proposed cost coverage.

Kind regards,
193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [ANN] Mt.Gox’s February 21st, Downtime Explanation on: February 21, 2012, 10:14:34 AM
https://mtgox.com/press_release_20120221.html

TOKYO, JAPAN - February 21, 2012 - We would like to communicate that no data was lost, or stolen during this incident.

On February 21 at approximately 3pm JST, Mt.Gox and other websites hosted by Mt.Gox suffered an unplanned outage caused by a Kernel Panic on our main server.

Our system is configured so that a switch-over to our backup server should occur in such an incident, however we were caught off guard as this server is currently having upgrades performed.

A summary of actions taken to resolve the issue is as follows:

Our support deliver and management group requested immediately for the server to be rebooted by our provider in Texas. Once the main server was back online we found that its file system was corrupted on one drive. After a careful inspection of the file system we decided to update the server’s kernel to its latest stable version to avoid any further downtime as we weren't certain what caused the kernel panic.

While we understand how disruptive this downtime has been for our users, we would like to again reassure all our customers and the Bitcoin community that no data has been lost, leaked, or compromised and that the delay in getting things back online is due to having to re-compile a new Kernel and revert to offsite backups.

On behalf of Mt.Gox’s staff and Mark Karpeles we would like to sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience. Please rest assure that we will look at alternative solutions to prevent such incidents in the future.

Regards,
Mt.Gox Co. Ltd Team.

Mark, fine they be not be valid as a proof of ID, but they are definitely valid as proof that that official documents have been requested as such it is your duty to honor this documents and leave the petition of verification open until such documents arrive, and not deny my verification petition knowingly through official documentation for this precise purpose that the official documents are on their way.

Facts:
1. official documents that are valid proof that official documents have been requested have been sent to you.
2. You know that official documents are being processed based on official documentation.
3. Fail to acknowledge that official documents show documentation will take 3 to 4 weeks, and instead of waiting for this time, you decide to close verification petition,  and deny my case, when instead you should wait for such documents, since you have official proof of that, and do not need to take my word for it, just base it on the documentation, if in doubt then verify.
4. You have fail to acknowledge if you will accept my government issued photo ID, which I should have in 3 to 4 weeks, and you have indicated that it is not a valid document, nevertheless it is official ID, and valid at banks.

The very least you could do at this point in to undeny my verification petition and change its status from deny to wait, and allow time for my documents to arrive and acknowledge that a government issue photo id is a valid document.

A direct quote from our Support Team leader for your Sergio.

"Hello Sergio,

We sincerely regret that you have experienced difficulties in making use of Mt.Gox. Please be aware that the AML procedures which we are asking you to complete are legally obliged upon us by both Japanese and American financial law. Releasing your funds to you without gathering all the documentation required would be a crime under these laws, and as such we are forced to seek identifying documentation from you before we can return your funds.

We are, however, more than willing to work with you in relation to the AML process to achieve a satisfactory outcome for you. If you so desire, we can keep your AML application open until you are able to provide the requested documentation. Further, as soon as you provide us with the information which we are required to collect, we will re-review your application and contact you immediately.

It should be noted that the AML process is legally required of all money services businesses. Any company which does not under any circumstances ask for your personal information is breaking international banking law."

Kind regards,

You are a bit mistaken here

1. Yes, you sent us documents from a government stating that you have been requested a new set of ID. No problem with that. But these are still not Official IDs just a paper stating that you requested these documents
2. Yes, no problems with that.
3. No, We are aware that you will get these documents and are waiting for them. Your account is still in available to you, you can still log-in and trade, only withdrawal are on hold. You are account is as for today in Pending for Verification. What has been so far denied is the document you sent us (see point 1)
4. No, as stated several times here we are waiting for your documents to arrive and to be sent to us in order to "unlock" all features on your account.

Bottom line. As for today you are NOT LOCKED OUT of your account, we just block all withdrawal until you are sending us a government issue photo ID like a passport for example, which is, as I believe what you requested from your government. Finally you account is in Pending AML since September 25 2011 (5 month ago), I am sure that since then you had all the time to get the proper documentation ready, we cannot be responsible if your government needs 3 to 4 weeks in order to issue you a passport.
196  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MTGOX new privacy policy??? on: February 21, 2012, 01:22:29 AM
No, your wrong. Please read and understand the thread before making statements

We may make available the Personal Information that you provide to us to our affiliates, agents, representatives, trusted service providers and contractors for these limited purposes. We may also share Members’ Personal Information with financial institutions, insurance companies or other companies in the case of a merger, divestiture, or other corporate re-organisation. We may also share Members' Personal Information with law enforcement or regulatory agencies, as may be required by law. Any third party which receives or has access to Personal Information shall be required by us to protect such Personal Information and to use it only to carry out the services they are performing for you or for Mt. Gox, unless otherwise required or permitted by law. We will ensure that any such third party is aware of our obligations under this Privacy Policy and we will enter into contracts with such third parties by which they are bound by terms no less protective of any Personal Information disclosed to them than the obligations we undertake to you under this Privacy Policy or which are imposed on us under applicable data protection laws.

Transfer of Personal Information Outside of Japan

Mt Gox will transfer Members' Personal Information to Mt. Gox K.K. as well as the third party service providers entrusted by Mt. Gox with the hosting of the Platform and other technical operations relating to the operation of the Platform. These parties may be located anywhere in the world. By accepting this Privacy Policy, you consent to such transfer of your Personal Information out of Japan.

it sounds pretty clear to me

This need to be clarified as well, and I am sure that you will all understand what is quoted above once I give you this simple example : Wire Transfer.

Indeed when you decide to withdraw money from your Mt.Gox account to your personal bank account we will have them no choice to make available your personal information to our bank that will processed with the wire transfer. While these information are transferred to our bank via SSL we still need to forward to our Bank or Trusted Service providers / Contractors your Name (First and Last), your Addresss, your Account Number, the Amount to wire and your Bank Account information (Bank Name, Address...).

As you can see there is no "EVIL" here just regular standard practices that you are already bound in your everyday life.

Cheers

198  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: my MTGOX accoun frozen, can not withdraw, I have yubikey. on: February 17, 2012, 09:41:19 AM
I am having an extremely difficult time getting verified:

The 2 documents in jpegs not in a zip file have been rejected because there are not in the official mtgox list of approve documents.

The 2 documents I have submitted are official documents issued by the government with picture, one is proof of passport request, and the other one is a photo id request (Cedula).

It seems that a photo ID document is required but the actual photo ID document is not accepted, which makes no sense, under Chilean law a photo ID document called (carnet or cedula) is a valid form of ID, but you request passport, driver license, and permanent recidence, but Photo ID is not listed under photo ID that is really wrong.

You have to know that not in all countries a driver license is the photo ID, in Chile a driver license is a driver license, not a photo id, for photo id, there is another document called photo id, which is the official document for identification, I am sure that is the case in many countries, so why ignore the official photo ID issued by governments.

In 3 to 4 weeks I will be getting the final version of the documents, but for now these temporary government issued documents should be sufficient, but it looks like the photo id document will not be accepted because it is not listed under photo id, which is wrong.

My only phone bills are voip, which is not accepted by mtgox based on the email I got.

Getting verified really sucks, basically they are telling how I have to live, to meet their requirements, not even the banks do this, due to the lack of money I have eliminated all bills, and mtgox wants to see bills.

Mtgox, bills cost money, I have no money therefore no bills, my mexican phone is a voip number that I am losing due to a problem with my provider and the Telmex beyond my control, my usa number is voip, and I have no other bills and I am very happy not having bills, that is something I am not planing on changing.

I saw the document you sent, and while we appreciate the effort they are NOT what we are asking you to submit. Please understand that if you cannot send us the document we need to verify you as a person it will be impossible for us to do our work and un-flag your account. You have to understand that we need to restrict the number of document we accept and Photo ID could mean literally anything ranging from a gym club card to library card, these could be "legal" in some countries but no viable in the financial world.

Please kindly submit your document when you have them.

Dear Sergio.

I cannot comment on how you raised an AML Flag, since it will also help other people to by pass some of our security features and will put everyone here at risk. But after that I personally check this matter with my colleagues and the person who's in charge of your account, that something unusual has been indeed made and trigger an AML request and this regardless of you having a Yubikey.

Just re-submit the document (not on a Zip file), like everybody-else and we will take care of this.

Thank you

Hypothetically, if someone was able to bypass your security features how would this affect me?

What I was trying to say was : If we explain in clear how people are flagged for AML, it will give the opportunity for "bad" people to make sure that their behavior and documents match what we are expecting diffiting the whole AML (Anti Money Laundering) system, resulting ultimately by having more banks or authorities checking what we are doing and evaluating the risk.
