181  Economy / Securities / Re: Would there be any interest in a GLBSE stock that invested in the US stock on: September 11, 2012, 04:49:49 AM
I dont think people are over the last "hedge fund manager" from Texas that showed up

True, timing might be off but I didn't dislike this one.

50 euros

Since July, the government has banned cash transactions over 1,000 euros.

Typo? 500 euros?
183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lockhead Martin Job Posting - "Knowledge of ... Bitcoin" on: September 11, 2012, 04:22:41 AM
So it begins...

Lulz incoming

[edit] But seriously, no. Clearly the sentence that mentions Bitcoin is designed to attract individuals who are generally 'creative' with negotiating. Nothing to do with the actual currency itself, let alone LM concocting deals in Bitcoin. Just to make sure we're on the same line here.
184  Other / Off-topic / Re: MNW Shill List on: September 10, 2012, 09:35:24 AM
Sorry, but I'm not buying it. Sounds a lot more like a butthurt mem than a shill.
185  Economy / Economics / Re: EU/US: Need for explenation on: September 09, 2012, 02:10:32 PM
I've wondered about this myself, not to mention related odd situations. For example, a country can have a fully functioning domestic economy with prices in some kind of equilibrium or 'homeostasis', yet the foreign exchange rate seems ridiculously low and imports seem unjustifiably expensive. Why?

I feel that has something do to with mercantilism. Tariffs, quotas... i.e. the idea that the nation needs to be 'defended' on an international level by such measures. Very prominent in the US and the EU.

I am more interested into how that from an economical perspective makes sense

Both the EU and US are in for a shitstorm. EU already. US is almost certainly going to face a devastated dollar in the near future.
I'd recommend Asia instead... Look at China. Lots of savings. No debt culture (not to say that their policies are any better... hardly so... but not as depraved as the West. Yet.)
186  Economy / Economics / Re: So, this is it: Bitcoin credit crunch. on: September 09, 2012, 02:03:02 PM
I agree with the beginning with your statement. Pirategate offers a nice - and stark - contrast to 2007-2008 in terms of policy.

So in essence, we have built a system in which the only subsidized behaviour is accumulating money in an offline wallet, and never touch it again for the next 10 years.

What about Bitcoin's purpose as... a currency? Buying and selling?
187  Economy / Lending / Re: 1000-2000 BTC loan - Hookah bar on: September 09, 2012, 01:53:07 PM
automagically

Is this on purpose or an epic typo?

If you're drunk, join the Crewe.  If you're sober, take a drink, troll harder, THEN join the Crewe.  That is all.

Thanks for the invite. However I prefer drinking in a... you know... bar.
188  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speculation on monetary inflation rate of BTC vs. USD on: September 09, 2012, 01:37:29 PM
The author (who bases himself on UBS research) also discusses MBS. Explicitly.

Quote
"the Fed owns all but $650 billion of 10-30 year nominal Treasuries."

So.. $650 billion in treasuries (which is the max) and another $500 billion in MBS? $1100B is never gonna happen.
189  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Buying 50.000 BTC on: September 09, 2012, 01:26:49 PM
I just stumbled across this. Rate was about 0.25 then. Translates into 12.500 USD.

OP is either:
- A very happy rich man living on a private island in the Caribbean
- A dead guy (suicide)

50 000 BTC is not enough to live on a private island in the Caribbean.

Familiar with the hyperbole?
190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What about DDoS (Denial of Service) to sites that don't accept bitcoin? on: September 09, 2012, 01:24:12 PM
OP, why don't you just visit 4chan.org.

Go to /b/, that's the official channel for bitcoin experts. Follow their advice.

What about DDoS (Denial of Service) to sites that don't accept bitcoin?
I am against such but if bitcoin is better than sex, why not?
Well...

Step 1. Find out about Bitcoin
Step 2. Suggest something that might appeal to greedy Bitcoiners no matter how ridiculous
Step 3. Forget to add lame signature begging for money.
Step 4. Add lame signature lamely by adding it as a copy pasta to the bottom of every post.
Step 5. Fail.

You must be... old here.
196  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: It's Laissez-Fair on: September 09, 2012, 09:20:41 AM

Bitcoin
It's Laissez-Fair

Good slogan?  Sorry couldn't help myself Wink

No. Bad slogan.

Bitcoin
It's Laissez-Faire

Much better.

It's much better with the pun that Erik intended.
"Laissez-fair" is a great libertarian slogan.

For Paymium, my associates and I went for a more politically neutral slogan: "money over IP"

Second that

What's an iPhone? Ohh you mean that censor-ful device?

One example:

Many others http://bit.ly/w4dQNi

Not your topic, Linux fanboy.

200  Economy / Speculation / Re: iPhone 5: Will People Cash Out on Bitcoins? on: September 09, 2012, 05:08:27 AM
Most users in the USA buy the phone subsidized for $199 16gb or $299 32gb.  We then sell our old one for nearly as much or even more.  With AT&T now unlocking phones for customers in good standing (under conditions) the price for the old phone is pretty high.

Right now a 4 16gb (not a 4s) is going for about $320 unlocked on ebay.  After the new phone comes out that will drop, probably to $250 as more people are selling.  A 4s is going for even more.  So if I sold my 4 after the new one comes out I can cash IN to bitcoin with my profits not out.  On top of that I have a 50/50 odds of selling my old phone for bitcoin directly.

Good points. The 'cash 4 iPhone' business is less pronounced in Europe.
