181  Economy / Gambling / Re: Your all-new, full custom Bitcoin casino is here ;) on: July 20, 2011, 11:47:45 AM
The user experience I had was top notch. Must be one of the best browser casinos made, even if it's still in alpha/beta.

I can recommend the service.

I could pledge a free VPS (with up to ~2gb of ram, tho I doubt that much is needed) to host the project, PM me if interested.

Hmmh, having personally been in Kowloon (Nathan Road is the main road on the Kowloon part of Hong Kong), I was just wondering why someone would live in Kowloon and call his company Shenzhen electronics whatsoever.

Would be a lot cheaper to live in the PRC side instead of HK, no? On the other hand, Kowloon is a lovely place. Smiley

187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have I just lost 80 btc? =( on: July 14, 2011, 05:53:57 PM
Sorry for bumping this but I just wanted to update and say that I got my coins back.
First i tried to rescan and download the blockchain on the same computer and on several other computer by just copying my wallet, but with no luck.

Then I tried to do the same with an older version of the same wallet and it worked like a charm!  Smiley
Thanks for the help everybody!

Could you please update the title to say that it was solved? All these threads of losing bitcoins are not good for the image of bitcoin. Thank you !

I had the same problem once (on OSX client, which is buggy). What I think happened was that my block chain got somehow corrupted - or even my wallet.dat. Do you have an earlier backup of the wallet.dat?

How I fixed the issue:

1) shut down bitcoin client / daemon
2) take a backup of your current wallet.dat (you could backup the block chain DBs as well, for later debug or what not)
3) delete the current wallet.dat and all block chain data (usually in the same folder)
4) replace only the wallet.dat to the folder (I used an older backup, I'd recommend that since I suspected that the stale transaction was already written to it. You could try the current wallet.dat as well if you don't have backups).
5) restart bitcoin and redownload the block chain (on OSX this can be _really_ slow. I mounted a RamFS for this purpose.)
6) Once the block chain is up to date, you should have a balance that includes the 80 BTC you thought you lost.

Let me know how it goes or if you have any questions.

I was surprised to find an article about bitcoin in a Finnish paper. Here's a online version of the article:

190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best way to get money in fast on: June 20, 2011, 05:58:36 PM
So, I'm a big believer in Bitcoin.  I think I'll be giving my kids and grandkids millies for their birthdays and they'll be pretty freakin excited about it.  I don't think we'll see prices this low for a long time, maybe forever.

My question: How the hell can I buy some more coins?  What's the fastest way?  I'm willing to pay a premium to get them.  I don't think I can wait the 2-3 days for bank deposit.  Can I get some suggestions?  Anyone willing to sell to me directly?

Where do you live in?
191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just wait, this is coming down the pipe. on: June 18, 2011, 10:53:39 AM
Banks earn money by giving loans for buying houses etc and giving interest on savings. (Since they use savings to give loans) They can still do this with bitcoins.
They can create safe storage for bitcoins, solving the problem with inheritance, and exchange services. So yes there will still be a need for banks.

But ofcourse it can force them to cut their made up fees.

Umm, no. They don't use savings to give loans. This is the most important aspect of our current monetary policies you need to understand:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractional-reserve_banking

To wrap it up: banks create ~98% (2% is the reserve requirement in EURO zone at least) of the loan out of thin air. Just think about it. They only ad the digital numbers to your bank account and in return, you promise to work 9-17 for the next 20 years to pay the loan back.

That's why I call the fiat money as the modern slaver whip.

If you really want secure, maybe Linux enhanced by the NSA would be the way to go?

a Linux with backdoors for NSA is the last thing I'd store my bitcoins. Smiley

I don't think there's a single MOBO that can fit 5 high-end cards to it. The cards take two slots each.

Other than that, I Think your plan is good to go. Just keep the mobo laying flat on a surface; as heat rises upwards it becomes impossible to use a normal tower case with 3++ cards.
