Well, that's capitalism. Take chances, win big or lose your money.
If BFL does have ASICs, then the people who put their money on the line in pre-orders are going to have a heyday when it first gets released and the difficulty hasn't increased yet. The people who decided to wait will still have a chance to mine, but not until after the difficulty has ramped up.
If BFL doesn't have the ASICs... well. That's highly unfortunate, but hey; you're working with experimental technology that works with a relatively experimental e-currency, you have to expect that things might not turn out according to plan. Invest at your own risk.
I haven't pre-ordered (Although I gave the Jalapeno some serious thought with the low starting price), so I think I'll see how it works when the first people begin to get theirs and think about it.

Bitinstant has now claimed to have sent my coins twice, and twice they've been lieing. This is utter bullshit.
BITINSTANT HAS STOLEN 500USD FROM ME. BEWARE!!!
This transaction is exponentially more time intensive than advertised. Support takes more than 24hrs to make a single reply. I still have not received a single reply, or call back, through the main support channels of Bitinstant.
Fuck this. I've rarely been so disrespected by a "legitimate" company.
Jeez sorry to hear that

Hi
I am an a Bitcoin researcher and fascinated by cryptocurrencies and their sociopolitical effects. I request whitelisting because I'm neither a "noob" nor a spammer.
I am especially interested in Bitcoin startups and decentralized virtual companies.
I think in particular there is a need for a centralized bitcoin dash-board, giving a market price weighted across all exchanges: raw cost in terms of mining and electricity versus capex.
Someone needs be tracking that arbitrage.
My 2c....

But if one doesn't have to jump through too many hoops like filling out surveys, surfing pages, and doing other time consuming and annoying tasks, or giving away their personal information, etc., then one might consider the coins received as being 'reasonably' free. And those are the types of sites I try to list.
This is from the original post:
There are some sites where one can get free bitcoins. The catch, if you want to call it that, is that you might be exposed to advertising. Or it might be incentive to spend more time at their site, to gamble with or do something else there which will be to their benefit in some way. Or it might be a way to give newbies a start with getting and using Bitcoins, which, it is hoped, will benefit Bitcoin as a whole. As long as anything like spending more time at their site, or doing something else, is optional then I will consider the coins given out there as "free."

Unbelievable, make sure not to post frequently or your main account will be put on spam hold!

You should be able to make just over 0.5BTC per day per GH/s at the current difficulty. I get 800MH/s and make ~0.45BTC/24hours at BTCGuild. Hashrate is approximate.
