181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Laptop's SSD on: November 06, 2017, 10:25:50 AM
Hi,

I think I didn't ask the question clearly.

I wanted to ask if I can use laptop's SSD in GPU based rig.

182  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Best practices in placing the PSU on: November 06, 2017, 09:46:49 AM
Hi,

I tried to search about this here but couldn't find.

I have HX1200i and H81. Will mount the GPUs on top.

Please let me know what should be ideal location of the PSU? Should PSU's fan upside or downside. Any best practices in placing the PSU?

Thanking you in anticipation.

Regards,

Riz

Hi,

Can I use laptop's SSD for mining?

It is possible as long as the motherboard recognize each card in any brand with no problem. As long as each device also has valid driver for full functionality.

Thanks, great! BTW is it possible to mix and matching NVIDAs and AMDs?

Now the rig is on Equihash:

Note: Gigabyte 1080 TURBO is not the best choise - it's cheap but hotter about 10 degree. For 1080 chip 3-slot cooling system is right choise (like Palit JS,SJS,GR,GRP; Giga Aorus; etc)

Thanks. I noticed that you are using 97x and 10xx. Does 9 and 10 series work seamlessly or you had to use some tool or do some configuration?
186  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone tried this setup? on: October 30, 2017, 06:22:19 AM

Different brands, different models. No problems, works well for months.
MoBo ASUS Prime Z270A (GPUs in 7 PCIe + 1 M.2 slots)

Thanks. Any compromises on hash rate? Are you still using this setup?

Hi,

How about the idea of using different brands like ASUS, GIGABYTE, ASUS, GALAX etc. (one card each) of 10xx nomenclature on a rig. Anyone tried that? Any experiences? Pros? Cons?.

188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / ASUS or GIGABYTE or GALAX FOR 1060 6G on: October 26, 2017, 10:45:55 AM
Hi,

What would be your preference for 1060 6GB - ASUS or GIGABYTE or GALAX.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Currently I'm running 3 rigs of Galax 1060 6GB OC. They're quite good on ETH (ethash) and ZEN (Equihash). Its' memory is Hynix as be shown in attached img.

For ETH: +300 mem, -100 core, 85% power limit, each card results to 21.3 Mh/s.

For ZEN: +130 mem, +150 core, 85% power limit, each card draws about 298 sol/s.

So, so far so good.

Hi thanks.

One question:

On GALAX GPU specs (http://www.galax.com/en/graphics-card/10-series/galax-geforce-gtx-1060-oc-6gb.html) its stated that the Minimum System Power Requirement (W) is 400W. I want to use same 6 cards on the rig.

Its also stated that the Maximum Graphics Card Power (W) is 120W.

I have Corsair HX1200i PSU. Based on above, it seems a 2400W PSU would be required (for 6 GPUs having 400W each) or its something I am really missing.

Rizwan

As Vann already mentioned, WHAT GPU's?

GALAX GeForceŽ GTX 1060 OC 6GB

Without knowing the exact configuration of the system it's impossible to know how much power the system will use. The system requirements are a recommended SUGGESTION and are often WAY overstated so you don't easily over extend the power capacity of your PSU when running the system at max TDP.

So would 1200W PSU be sufficient for these GPUs in total quantity of 6?

Hi,

I want to have your quick advise/opinion on these two cards:

- GALAX 1060 6GB OC
- Inno3D 1060 6GB Twin version

Also please let me know what brand of memory GALAX and Inno3D uses.

Thanking you in anticipation.

195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: A question about present and future on: October 19, 2017, 12:56:28 PM
OK. Can anyone please let me know what would be the optimum specs?

I have ASROCK H81 PRO BTC v2.0 mobo, HX1200i PSU, Intel G3220 CPU, 4 GB DDR3.

Your config is great, no problems there, its just that your electricity cost is pretty high for mining, so your profits will not be significant till alt-coin prices go up.

OK thanks. So what I understood is that I can still mine and can make x number of coins (based on hashing capability) but I would somewhat be losing due to higher electric cost. And would anticipate for increase in alt-coin price.

If that's a point then I got it Smiley

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply.

I understand that for ETH the specs won't catch up but I am talking about the currencies having lesser complexity and the currencies that would launch in future.

Is hashing power of 6x 1060 6GB really insufficient.

Yes electricity is bit higher, but, is that really a showstopper?

198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / A question about present and future on: October 18, 2017, 11:05:58 AM

Hi,

My electricity rate is around 0.15 - 0.17 USD. I need to know would I be profitable using 6x GTX 1060 6GB. I am open to any coin that exists and any coin that may see the light of the day.

199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can you please help me in deciding on powered GPU riser. on: October 14, 2017, 09:18:08 AM
Using SATA to PCI-E adapters on risers is a BAD IDEA - the SATA power connection is not rated for enough 12v DC to handle the typical 70 watts most "mining" GPUs pull out of the PCI-E bus connection.

You can connect most risers direct to your power supply with a standard PCI-E 6-pin connection - which IS rated to handle the load VERY safely.

they are not eat 70W from sata - typically it is about 3-5W
all required power vga takes from  6x8pins from power supply
my friend had measured - and seems the system "knows" there is not enough power from risers  and switches to main psu for required power
from sata comes the power to power the riser itself, that's all!

No, this is incorrect.

Hi,

Someone please give me a clear go ahead to get these riser (attached pics). Other please let me know:

a) if SATA is not good/dangerous way to connect

b) if SATA can be avoided by bypassing (using the risers I attached pics).

I want to get the riser but before that I want to be pretty sure that I get the right thing that would go along with 24/7 operations of rig.

Rizwan

Hi QuintLea,

I read in some post that SATA is prone to catch fire in this kind of extended run. Can you please send Amazon/any other link about the appropriated riser product so that I could review and order.

Thanks again.
