181  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: April 17, 2013, 09:31:07 PM
Ok. win32 second try, fully rebuilt:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ikm9307wsx0ydqt/vanitygen_catalyst.zip

To build from source code:

download https://github.com/wyuzhe/vanitygen/archive/master.zip, setup dependencies, nmake -f Makefile.win32/win64 etc.

Once you'we built all the binaries (8 in total), you can wrap the result with AMD APP SDK 2.8 compiler which seems to produce correct code in case you're getting compute errors.

Beware that to get correct version of the compiler you need to download the whole SDK (200MB).

Test it against beta catalyst driver on system. In case you get a crash/your card is frozen, try removing some or all the dlls of compiler wrapper in 32/ or 64/ directory.

Wrapped version, when running with -v, should report:
Code:
Version: OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1016.4)

Newer compiler versions produce incorrect results (block mining indeed unaffected - vanitygen kernel is nontrivial compared to simple sha256 one).

Detailed reports welcome as always.

186  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Why do i need the AMD ADL SDK?? on: April 14, 2013, 07:44:16 PM
Not entirely sure, but from what I understood from the cgminer manual, the APP SDK actually allows you to mine, and the ADL SDK actually allows you to see temps, control fans etc.
187  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: mixed gpus; 6970 & 7970 (hash rate way lower on 7970) on: April 14, 2013, 07:27:31 PM
Also having the same XFX ones, though mining bitcoin no litecoin. Found that worksize 128 helps, and not sure if you have the option with litecoins, but as kernel diablo is recommended. Also what kinda temps are you looking at on your XFX? 85?

Owh yea, and anything above intensity 11 gives me artifacts if I do anything on my pc. (guess thats normal on XFX cards... they won't output display properly anymore... too busy Tongue)
188  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Whould this be ok for a mining rig? 10 7950's on: April 14, 2013, 07:25:09 PM
I would start digging deeper into these forums, from the surface it looks that anything beyond 3 cards is giving issues, but since I didn't encounter this problem yet myself (though next rig might get 4 or 5 cards) i didn't dug deeper. So yea answer is somewhere out there, but the safest bet ofc is always to just stick with 3x3
189  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Workstation Build Request | HIGH SPECS | on: April 14, 2013, 07:20:50 PM
you know its gonna take you two years at best to make ROI right?

And if that is your use, you should just setup a gaming-rig with 3 ATI cards, and make sure to add extra fans. (look for good airflow cases while building your gaming rig)

either way, you would come close to something like this: http://tweakers.net/gallery/153084?inv_id=238672#tab:inventaris (and yea its in dutch, but the part names are still in english, you can run it through google translate if you like)

Only if you wanna do bitcoining, I wouldn't recommend xfx cards.

2) Liquid cooling (only if it is easy to setup in the case)
3) Cool case ( must be easy to use )
4) Even more advanced full cooling system.
2) Liquid cooling is by definition for enthousiasts, if you're not willing to put in the effort stay away from it.
3) Even a case designed to give a lot of airflow, you can still screw up by putting in the fan backwards... Good cooling cases are usually by default not so easy to use, as you can put fans all over the place. (and getting them all connected is a challenge most of the time)
4) see 2.

191  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Workstation Build Request | HIGH SPECS | on: April 14, 2013, 07:08:05 PM
I still don't get it... if you want to mine on that box... whatever else you are going to try and do... is just going to fail, lag, get delayed and stutter... the only thing that might function, without decreasing hashrate, is a simple webserver... not something you need an high end CPU and 64 gb of ram for...

I wouldn't mind creating this setup... but I just don't see the function of it... if you want to bitcoin, you either dedicate a miner to it... or you gonna get crap in BTC.

Quote
- 3 * 7970s with the crossfire setup so it is like 1 GPU or something ( I want to use these for BTC mining ).
Also if this is the amount of effort you put into it, (would love to know what you mean with the something...) I don't think you'll be able to get a miner setup properly, I suggest you buy an ASIC. (try not to get scammed, currently the only known party who is shipping is Avalon)
192  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What catalyst and sdk drivers are you using for 7970 (windows) on: April 14, 2013, 07:00:39 PM
Have an update. Figured I'd bump.

Reference OEM 7970, 13.3 beta, SDK that came with it. CGMiner 2.11.4, Diablo kernel, Worksize 256, Default vectors (1), intensity 11, 2 GPU Threads (default). Don't need to specify any other options aside from pool and GPU speeds. 1185 Core, 300 memory.

713.2 MHash/sec, or ~0.60186 MHash/MHz.

Running with 1 GPU thread was about 700 on the nose. Also, I have not experimented with all the combinations quite yet.

Edit: On another 7970, I was able to get slightly different core clocks, namely 1220/300, and I tested other kernel combinations and let them hash out for about 4-8 hours to get a good average that wouldn't fluctuate. Increasing vectors decreased hashrate significantly. Increasing threads beyond 2 either decreased hashrate significantly or caused a driver crash and recover. The default GPU threads (2) and default vectors (1) seem to be optimal.

730.1 MHash/sec (0.59844 MHash/MHz) with poclbm kernel and worksize=256
731.3 MHash/sec (0.59943 MHash/MHz) with poclbm kernel and worksize=128
728.1 MHash/sec (0.59680 MHash/MHz) with poclbm kernel and worksize=64 (This is the default setting.)
730.8 MHash/sec (0.59902 MHash/MHz) with diablo kernel and worksize=256
731.7 MHash/sec (0.59975 MHash/MHz) with diablo kernel and worksize=128
726.6 MHash/sec (0.59557 MHash/MHz) with diablo kernel and worksize=64

The hashrate per MHz seems to be slightly lower, probably because of a lower RAM:Core ratio. I will increase it slightly to see if I can eek out a slightly better MHash/MHz.

May I ask if you've done anything with your voltage? Or just left it be?
I left it alone, and getting about the same (5-10 variance) with just clocking the engine to 1200 and using diablo core and worksize 128, running at 75% fan at 74 degrees. (fan is variable from 50-95) Note this is a single card setup, if you run dual cards... you'll see almost 10 degrees higher on your top card depending on your cooling.

194  Economy / Economics / Re: = Grand Unified Solution to Lost Coins, Hoarding, Deflation, Speculation = on: April 13, 2013, 03:20:02 PM
It sounds like the opposite of what bitcoin is trying to achieve. Governments, or in this case miners, stealing your money...

The txn fee is there, as an incentive for miners to keep mining after 2140. Due to the massive amounts of txns, the fees will be extremely low, but still enough for the miners to make a bit of profit.

Plus you will see more and more that merchants are going to set up their own miners / miner clusters, to make sure their transactions are verified quickly, thus helping to secure the network. (as it is in their best interest too)

Everything happening right now, has to do with the fact that it is a new and upcoming currency, this is a stage every currency has to go through and there is no avoiding it. Let itself play out for another 5 to 10 years, it will be much more stable by then. Hence why the beta tag is still used on bitcoin.

it will be via escrow and it will be NOT in BTC

i'll be the first to admit i was a little drunk when i made my first posts... but can you blame me?

Yes. What makes you think anybody cares about your first world problems?
You come across as a self-entitled toe-rag, the only person this thread makes me pity is your mother.

you call a market going from $280 to $40, then up and down randomly with an hour and a half sell orders as normal?.... and im just bitching?

i think you "be trippin" bro

Have you ever tried buying or selling on NYSE or NASDAQ?

no, im not donald trump, im a guy with a gaming rig

at what point did i not make that clear?
First it was an avalon... and now its a gaming rig... impressive.. a dude who can do magic!
197  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: avl asic on: April 12, 2013, 08:42:16 PM
Can we possibly vote this as the dumbest thread posted in the past 3 months?  I mean, there has been a major amount of shitbags posting in the past 3 months, but this guy takes the cake.. it is obviously a troll post.

IF he purchased a Avalon in first batch, he would have bought it at a time where bitcoins were 15$ a pop.  Complaining about $50 or $500 bitcoins is something a real miner wouldn't do.  Doesn't matter if he was drunk or not.  People in the real world just don't do this.

If you want to prove it is not a joke, post a pic of the Avalon you hate so much.  Then people will get off your ass.  Don't just post a pic of any old Avalon, that trick won't work.  Just post a pic of the Avalon and a post-it note with your tag "big pete".

..but you won't.

ive had serveral offers from people who want my paperweight

some have asked for 1min videos of it hashing, others have asked for pictures of it with my passport on it.... all of which ive provided
Good to know, so you are a scammer or would have sold your paperweight already.
am i going to do your request?  sure... but first why dont you give me a photo of yourself doing something of interest?  why do i have to be the guy whos always providing evidence of everything

now this may be a hard one for u

but get out your browser

go to google

and search for escrow
yawn, /ignore. (would love to see a lock on this)

And yes, in case you didn't figure this out yet, on the internet if you are claiming Mountains of Gold (aka BS), you are the one that has to give the proof, or people will just make fun of you and call you a troll / scammer.
198  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: BitPhantom - Bitcoin Mining Hardware Design Concept (VID + IMG) on: April 12, 2013, 08:15:25 PM
To start off, I really like the design.

The open design looks to be great for cooling, designing something vertically stackable will prove to be difficult, as experience has shown that leaving the top of the video cards open, helps a lot with the heat. Modular design is nice, but unless you want to go big, and design your own circuit boards, not really seeing it happen. Best is to stay with the E-ATX formfactor for mobo's, and keep max length on video cards in mind. (every modular block will be mobo + GPUs)

The other problem I see is the price, though I love it and it looks really pretty, buying no case is cheaper than buying one(as preferably you don't want a case, to give your cards maximum amount of air), and this one in particular looks to become an expensive one.

Designing one with extreme airflow for budget price would generate a lot more interest. (simple custom case for under $100, with a lot of fan options, especially aimed at multi GPU setups)

True, but anything more then 5 years ahead is still subject to changes. Also if Intel would go for making ASICs for Bitcoin, it would be some little side project not their main focus. (they most likely would put a couple of interns on it under supervision, and still get better hash ratings and power usage than BFL and ofc as mentioned before they could start next year and beat BFL to shipping.)
