Common blocks, where are you! Sigh.

My best bud Rev. Mike passed away 2,500 miles from home at Royal Prince Albert Hospital in Sydney, about 2300UTC last night. The aortic aneurysm just caused too much damage. His wife Gail was at his side, and their Aussie friends.

If it wasn't for Michael, I would not be mining. After I lost everything at Mt. Gox and in the crash, he believed in me and my biz plan. It was Mike who put up the relatively small amount for a used S2 back in that day, and we built the mine according to our little plan from there. It worked.

When Mike entered my life I was living on a partial VA disability and Social Security. It was a fight making it each month. I'm now accumulating as much in BTC each month as my pensions, and I don't have to worry about minor catastrophes like car problems, etc.

RIP, Mikey.  Kiss

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like we lost one of the good ones. Condolences to you, his family and yours!

Man, with the almost doubling of the hash rate for the pool I now get .002 less per payment and we haven't seen a decrease in our variance that I can see, yet. Common miners, do whatever you got to do, whatever superstition you got, math, reboots, to get us some blocks Smiley

And the pool is still at 187PH!  That's great.  Should help decrease the odds of blocks from hell.

Especially since the next difficulty increase is coming in ~4 days and is currently marked at 18.5% increase.  Shocked  (It may decrease a bit by then... but 4 days out the prediction is usually pretty close..)

So bring those blocks in before the big increase!!

M

Refresh me on what causes difficulty increases, please!

The bitcoin network is self regulating.  It's intended to have a block approximately every 10 minutes.  Every 2016 blocks, the system looks to see what the average block time was for the last 2016 blocks.  If it was > 10 minutes, difficulty decreases.  If it was < 10 minutes, difficulty increases.  The change sets it back to a block approx every 10 minutes.

So what's happened, quite predictably, is BTC value is climbing.  That causes miners to get more hash power.  That causes difficulty to increase.  Since difficulty is slated to increase by ~18.5%, one can reasonably estimate that 18.5% more hashpower has been added to the system since the last update.

There are other factors that can affect this as well, such as huge players moving their hashpower off of BTC to another SHA256 coin.  That happened a month or two ago, and actually caused a decrease in difficulty.  Sadly I wasn't mining at the time to take advantage of it.  (Not for want of trying ... )

Hopefully BTC value continues to climb...

M

Ah, ok. I thought it was something like that but that definately helped clarify it, thanks! Wish i could keep up lol, not enough power!

OT, I know. Gotta say it. My long-time BFF, Rev. Mike Christensen, is on a 90-day study sabbatical in Australia and just underwent emergency surgery for a bleeding aortic aneurysm. He's stable, but he'll be at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney for a couple of weeks. Mike's the "silent partner" in the mine, and if it wasn't for him believing in me and what BTC means, I would not have been able to recover and come back after Mt. Gox. Wife Gail is with him and OK, but it ain't easy. Keep him in your thoughts, please. He's a keeper and an asset to our "community."

Thanks. I'm done. Mine on...and I know Mike's working on that darn block along with us...

(If you need to delete, Kano, I understand)

Glad he is OK so far. Those are bad and tough to survive from what I heard. God speed!

Soooon...... Sooooooooon...... I said two days ago.

For how long can a block go unfound in theory ? With this hashrate and difficulty ofcourse.
In theory? Forever. Seriously.

I guessed that was the answer, but i had to ask.

Hope this one will be finished when I wake up tomorrow.

Don't we all!

What's going on with this pool, I joined a couple of days ago from all of the good word from here and it hasn't found a block yet! 76 hours since the last block and counting.  If there isn't a block found by tomorrow morning I'm going to have to switch back to Slushpool.

The pool is composed of miners, like you and me.  Why hasn't *your* hardware found a block? Smiley

Same reason mine hasn't.  Pure luck.  Right now it's sour.

M

Haha good one!

Yeah, I dunno why the noobie is letting us down by not finding all the blocks. I mean his luck must be awesome at Slushpool!  Wink

Can anyone verify if this is legit? - http://www.spondoolies-tech.org/products/sp45-newton-shipping-from-stock.html

*I thought spondoolies-tech shut down in 2015?

Seems like the site is having issues as well so my thought is, avoid, avoid!

I have no idea but if it is legit that's a good price for the unit. I could find room for that especially being a rack mount.

hey everyone,

i have 2 S9's pointed to the Kano pool, to test the waters, before making a decision for another 8, and another 10 next month, for a total of 20. activity is pretty quiet, and the total hash is down from 120K THs to below 100K in 2 days, so people are leaving...

any thoughts on weather i should wait it out and even go 'all-in' with Kano, or weather i should spread between several pool?

our normal rate is in the 90PH range. Last week or so the range has been jumping from the 90's to 118 and back, not sure why, but do some reading back to see how the pool works before you join. This pool rewards you for the longer you stick with it but it takes time to get to your optimum payout to prevent pool hoppers from; well pool hopping.

If you read back some you will see the good and bad of the pool but it takes time to see if you like it.

And yes, my miners are also having connection issues. I keep getting notifications of low hash rates which is what was happening last time when Kano rebooted something.

Fcuk they just got the latest payout to a new address and key !!!
how can stop payments until I load a complete new version of core?

I'm going to wipe the drive reformat

Invest in a trezor, Been using it ever since I had bitcoins stolen from me last year and haven't had a problem since,

Until then I would suggest using Jaxx on your phone to receive payouts till its solved

I've been looking into the hardware wallets recently.. What are peoples thoughts regarding Ledger Nano S vs Trezor?

Are there honestly big differences that truly set one of them above the other?
Or, is it just a preference thing, and/ or a $ cost thing?

Would love to hear from users of both wallets. As i am stuck between the two

I have a Nano S. It's nice, but I found having mining payments sent to it increases the fees something fierce when you send them out. Well at least for Ethereum. But other than that it's a nice wallet.
