181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Investment regrets! on: October 21, 2017, 01:49:05 PM
So like most of us I wish I had had the time to notice bitcoin in its infant stages, I had the technical expertise and IT knowledge to mine when it came out but never knew it existed.

I wish while I did know about it that I had put the $3-600 down to buy one coin even last year. rather than slowly piecing together 1 coin right now.

is anyone in the same boat?

There are countless people who are on the same boat as you and that includes me. And our similarities does not end in being late on btc investment. I also have background in IT and you know how frustrating that was when you found out about btc a little late. Wondering how it slipped your radar haha! But then again it's not yet late for us to slowly achieve our first ever coin.
182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How long bitcoin will survive ? on: October 21, 2017, 12:32:54 PM
Have you guys ever think to how long is bitcoin will survive in this world ? Well, I mean is there anything that can make bitcoin bankrupt or low price, then possibly will make bitcoiners doesn't want to invest anymore. And also is there any solution to avoid those thing. Just wonder to know.

Of course that also came to mind. And I think the answer will always depend on us. How long can we make btc survive and how long are we gonna keep on supporting it. That is the answer. For as long as there are people like us who will always be loyal and support btc the chances of it surviving and thriving is great. There's no way btc investors/hodlers will cease investing in it because it just keeps on giving us good profit that's why people are confident with btc.
183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to effectively store large number of Bitcoins? on: October 21, 2017, 10:53:20 AM
Suppose I hold lot of bitcoins in exchanges and in some wallet. To prevent the loss of bitcoins, how should one manage them?

Generate multiple new addresses. Distribute the bitcoins among these addresses. Copy the private keys of these addresses to paper wallet.
Is this the way to do it?

What are other better ways to manage large number of bitcoins?

Having multiple wallets may be a good idea but it can cause confusion. It actually doesn't matter if you have multiple wallets if you can secure them. Better to make sure that if you are using hardware wallets don't put it in a device that you regularly use like an everyday pc. It's safer if no one can have access to it and it can't be invaded by malwares so better to have a device that you don't connect on the internet and keep it safely in a place that only you can have access to.
184  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTCUSD 6000 is new low, breached today on: October 20, 2017, 05:12:47 PM
This is great! I just wished I witness it live with my own eyes it is phenomenal. I might be overreacting right now but seriously, I thought 6k is reachable by at least end of this month or before the year end. And now we've reached it. Btc just keeps on surprising us. But then there is the coming fork that surely contributed to this new ath. I wonder where will btc be by the end of this year.
185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who do you think will compete with Bitcoin? on: October 20, 2017, 07:53:20 AM
Ethereum have been second to bitcoin and I think it's safe to assume they are the best rival of each other. Bitcoin had the advantage of being the first to develop but if given time and chance eth will be able to get neck and neck with bitcoin. But still, who knows, maybe there is new crypto being develop at this moment who might rival bith btc and eth. We'll see about that in the future. Right now all we can do is assume.
186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are You in Favor to Register Your BTC Address to Trace Transaction and Tax??? on: October 20, 2017, 04:53:09 AM
Are you in favor to register your BTC Wallet address to trace transactions and impose taxed it?  It is a big subject now amongst lawmakers to trace down income and transaction about bitcoins.   This has become the talk of the people involved in digital currency lately.  So, What do you think?Huh

My opinion doesn't matter whether I am in favor to register my wallet address or not for taxation purposes. That is because it won't happen and lawmakers will always have hard time to trace the address owners. And one thing, how can a local government trace the owner if the address is from different country like the US? I reside here in PH so I'm not sure if the government here will take time to trace every address to trace all Filipinos who have btc wallet. And remember that we can always make multiple wallets and change addresses. And the uses of mixers will always be handy. But IF they succeed to put tax in it it's fine with me as long as it will be fair and reasonable and with utmost consideration.
187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Death of Bitcoin on: October 20, 2017, 04:34:31 AM
bitcoin is maintained by core developers, would Bitcoin die a natural death if the developers no longer exist? Or if they stop maintaining/developing/upgrading the system?

There are lots of developers that can take their place in maintaining, developing and upgrading btc system. There's no way btc will die even if the pioneer core developers no longer exist. Besides, how will those developers thay cause hardforks do some upgrades if they don't know how btc system works, right?
188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should I Invest On Bitcoin Before Upcoming Hard Fork? on: October 19, 2017, 04:59:58 PM
Hi everyone, I have booked 1k profit from bitcoin with my small investment. Yesterday price fall made me to sell bitcoin and now the price is much more and it recovers it's position, do you think it will go up or down before, on or after hard fork,.

Well if the rise and fall that happened within this week is any indication I guess it is safe to assume that we will be experiencing the same fluctuation up until the first week of November once to fork is settled. Mostly because like you are selling their coins during the first sign of a dip. But honestly, the fluctuation has always been present with or without a fork so there's nothing to think of here. That's just btc's nature. It's the way it is.
189  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Moving bitcoin before the new fork on: October 18, 2017, 04:55:57 PM
Where is your bitcoin?

Some exchanges will halt trading immediately before (like an hour) the fork is scheduled to occur and won't return access to transactions until they know it is safe to do so. This could be an hour or it could be a day. So keep that in mind if you leave your bitcoin with an exchange. It may be frozen for a short time after the fork.

Usually this is the case. And just like the recent fork the exchange where my coins are they advised not to make any transactions during a specific span of time until they told us to do so just to be safe. This upcoming fork, I think coins.ph will also do the same. They don't support any hardforks though, just like bch but then they spread news that they are taking consideration and studying what best to do with it. Then after a month they decided to just give everyone the equivalent of bch in btc who has btc in their wallets during the fork. So what they did is converted bch value into btc value then deducted all fees incurred.
190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's freaking 2017 - Do you own 1 BTC? on: October 18, 2017, 04:36:25 PM
I remember several years ago similar poll was made and i was surprised most of the users answered NO.
In case your answer is still NO, I'd like to know what is your main reason not to own one bitcoin?

Unfortunately, like some people here I haven't had my first ever bitcoin. That is mainly because my previous earnings went to my expenses back when I lost my job. And then I put some to alts investment but just a small portion of it. Right now, I still have a long way to gain back what I spent and to add some to reach 1btc. But hopefully it will be sooner.
191  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is falling, But don't worry! on: October 18, 2017, 03:55:31 PM
No worries, everytime we have new all time high this has been the case. Some occasional dips then a little more heart stopping surge. It's like dancing a chachacha haha! One, two step, forward and backward. I'm quite enjoying the ride honestly. Hello there traders! I guess they're busy buying in again. This dip is just a sign that we are in for the new ath and I can't wait.
192  Other / Meta / Re: I can't stand the capcha for this site on: October 18, 2017, 02:48:21 PM
Especially the "cars" one.  Seriously... has anyone EVER succeeded in getting that one right?  I swear that no matter what it says I got it wrong, even when I'm 100% certain that I've eliminated every picture with a car in it.  That's the one that really gets me.  The "signs" one also does it, but not always.

What ever happened to simply entering a series of numbers/letters to prove that you're not a bot?  Isn't that sufficient enough?  This method is a real PITA.  And more & more sites are using it these days I'm noticing.  I cringe every time I see it.

Glad I got that off my chest.  I've been wanting to say it now for a long time.

We all feel you. But if you consider it a pain in the ass there are some who are doing captchas to earn some. Honestly I also tried it before. But I gave it up already because just like you I got short tempered and it started pissing me off. Plus the pay is very low and it's a waste of time. So, back to the topic. What adds to my burden is once I finished the first set of captcha here in btctalk instead of Verify, the button will say Next! So I have to solve another set. Can you imagine? Lol!

Good thing, there's an option of "always stay logged in."
193  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bittrex on: October 18, 2017, 02:00:42 PM
I guess there are to reasons.
One of them is Trump

They don't let me withdraw my funds and are forcing me to send a copy of my id and a selfy which i deny before they don't answer my questions
1.Where their main office is located
2.Where my copy of ID will be stored
3.How it will be stored and protected
4.If they take full liability for loosing my copy to a third party

Since they deny to answer these questions i deny to send a copy of my ID.I choosed a basic membership with full intention to not be forced to send a copy of my ID to a company like Bittrex which denys to answer these simple questions.

Asking if i get Bitcoin Gold for the BTC which is stucked at Bittrex lead to an instant ban.

I know that a copy of ID and selfie are required in exchanges it is required by the central bank based on what I've read in my wallet. But there's something wrong with how bittrex reacted to your queries. First of all, you are a customer and I believe that we are entitled to ask them that kind of questions because and ID is important and should be private because it can be used illegally by anyone who get their hands on it.
194  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why so many currencies? on: October 18, 2017, 12:35:36 PM
we don't have so many currencies.
* we have fiat and then we have bitcoin.
* then there are some altcoins like Litecoin and Monero that have been trying to act as a currency, they succeed a little.
* then we have lots of "tokens". just numbers on the screen created for trading alone.
* then we have lots of different "tokens" like ETH that are not even supposed to be a currency but people mistake them for a currency.

This basically summed it up. More tokens being developed which makes confusion especially for newbies who are yet to understand bitcoin. It's overwhelming for them. But what's good here is these new tokens gave other people who are late investors of bitcoin to have the chance of finding a good one earlier which might someday be a potential tokens.
195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin can be hacked? on: October 18, 2017, 10:42:26 AM
Bitcoin cannot be hacked. Its value is secured due to the cryptographic functions that it employs. Maybe it could be hacked one day in the future but such an attack is unlikely to happen in the near future. However, the networks and storage locations or the exchanges can be hacked. There have been reports about it and the most prominent case is the Mt. Gox attack in 2014.
196  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WTF is Bitcoin? on: October 18, 2017, 09:26:00 AM
Will the bitcoin replace the Gold? If there is A war coming everyone will run to the Bitcoin instead of the gold?

Cheers

If there is a war coming I will definitely run with my bitcoins instead of gold. Simply because I don't have any gold to carry with me. And that will be the case with most people ao definitely people will run with their btc instead of gold. And for the nth time I'm gonna say this, bitcoin can never replace bitcoin. Not today and not in the future. Unless you can melt btc and turn it into jewelries and other stuff. They are different from each other but both are valuable and great assets.
197  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The numbers are in, bitcoin use grows in the Philippines on: October 18, 2017, 08:01:10 AM
This just proves that the use of bitcoin in the Philippines is getting more and more frequent. It's good that our country is adopting the use of bitcoin and not making any laws or whatever the government may do to somewhat hinder us from taking full advantage of bitcoin. Let's just hope that there will be more stores that will accept bitcoin as a mode of payment.

Yes, more establishments that accept bitcoin is what we really need for us to fully enjoy the usage of btc. This might also add some interests for the tourists btc holders. Aside from the hospitality of Filipinos and majestic sceneries all over our country, btc acceptance will also add impact to our tourism. It will really get their attention because of the amount they can save from money exchangers too.
198  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in the Philippines uproar on: October 18, 2017, 05:09:19 AM
Here in the Philippines, the growth in the knowledge about bitcoin is drastically exponential. Could bitcoin possibly influence the improvement and advancement of the Philippine's economical status? In what aspects?
Yes it's true! That the number of Filipinos (like me) engaging to bitcoins are rapidly increasing and that's a good thing. Here in our country, we can freely use btc without giving any restrictions coming from our government ( hopefully it continues) that's why each of us are now starting to earn and uplift our life status.

Well, bitcoins will definitely provide a great impact in our economy but the question is, does our government will allow this idea of cryptocurrency?

Hopefully yes since some of the exchanges show some interest on doing business here in our country. But as i read some post about the quality posting of some Filipinos we should be more responsible when commenting on every topic, we should make a quality one so we can protect the image of Filipinos in this forum. We should be more competent while we are learning more about bitcoin.

Actually with regards to being responsible in commenting on every topic, we have nothing to do with it. We filipinos have been the laughstock of other race and we're used to it. Even if we make quality posts, we cannot uplift our reputation because there will always be people who will continue to look for faults. But we really can't hide the fact that more pinoys are really diving into things they don't know or understand if it means additional income, and that includes cryptocurrency. All of it is due to poverty. Bitcoin will always have great contributions to us individually on some extent. With regards to our economic growth maybe in the future we will see some great impact but right now I can't really say. We're still young as a cryptocurrency aware country and there are still few establishments that accept btc.
199  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think we don't get quality Bitcoin users anymore? on: October 17, 2017, 08:02:07 PM
Maybe I'm wrong but I have the feeling that with Bitcoin price growth we have got a lot of new users who are not honesty and passionate interested in Bitcoin but only in fast, instant profit and if they don't get it they got disappointed and give up. Some of them don't even bother to get some basic knowledge about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. That is also the reason why we see so much panic selling when the price dumps. Is that only my feeling or do you think that also?

You're not alone on this observation. You have no idea what I feel with what I have been seeing especially in facebook groups. Lots of people always asking first how will they earn in btc then other people responding by posting referral links which causes many people to get scammed. I haven't seen a single member asked what is btc and how it works. I understand that not all are aware of cryptos and not all are into tech. I don't claim to fully understand everything about crypto. I haven't grasped all the technicalities but I know deep in myself that I understand it to my best knowledge and I'm not just joining the hype. I know the importance of btc and I've made my own research.
200  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another Good Reason to Own Some BTC on: October 17, 2017, 07:45:19 PM
...

If you are traveling and lose your credit card, but in a country that has a reasonably active Bitcoin scene, you can sell some BTC to pay bills while "over there".

This may become an issue for us.

Here is a case for having an online wallet, "travels anywhere".

Good point. Btc have been useful to all of us and can really save us at times like this scenario. If only we can have lower transaction fees. But I understand how it costs miners to confirm our transactions for us to pay high fees. But I hope there's something that can do about the issues of high fees. If this issue will be addressed people can use btc with ease and without worrying about sky high fees that it will cost you twice of the actual price of your purchases.
