I’ve also mention that in my post where the double spending news might affect the market :

Probably it was just supply and demand thing in the market, bitcoin was recently just pumping in the past month so most of the people are already expecting a correction at this point.

There are some articles about a million bitcoin sell of in the market, its already too risky to hold bitcoin at this point if your not going for a long term investment since we already have a big resistance at 40k$.

Also according to some research majority of the investors think market is already in a bubble, personally i think market is already at its limit and needed some correction at this point. There are also some negative news about bitcoin that could affect the market like this double spending thing:

https://markets.businessinsider.com/currencies/news/bitcoin-price-double-spend-flaw-critical-report-suggests-2021-1-1029990921

but we dont really know for sure, like you mentioned that it doesnt happened at all.

First possibility:
The double spend did not happen indeed. Read the actual news,

https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-double-spend-that-never-happened

Articles like this could easily affect the price in the market, so we dont know because some of the articles might just be made up by the companies to influence the market price of bitcoin. At the same time market price of bitcoin continue to pump in the past few months so in my opinion its normal in the market to experience this correction, i mean its still bullish considering the last ATH was 21k dollars to 40k dollars.
1802  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin at risk of regulation? on: January 21, 2021, 05:50:13 PM
I've think about that so many times, bitcoin could maybe be the future with its technology a digital currency or number 1 digital currency that everyone could use.

Just comparing it to fiat money which is regulated I cant imagine bitcoin to be over fiat money at this point without getting regulated, bitcoin is still in the process of adaptation and still growing so it is possible for bitcoin to evolve or maybe get regulated by the government to evolve or else we might see a new technology that is above bitcoin.

Most of us think that bitcoin could be the future but still i know that somehow we have doubted bitcoin at some point and we cant see it clearly how it is going to process in the future. Maybe the bitcoin could be regulated when all of the 21million supply is already mined.

1804  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reinvest initial investment, or keep profits? on: January 20, 2021, 06:02:17 PM
Hi all,

In the past weeks, I have sold some BTC, and I have my initial investment (about $5000) out. Which means that everything I have in BTC now (about $8000) is "free". That is fine, but I am thinking about what to do with the money I took out:

  • Put it in a less volatile investment, as a long term safeguard
  • Reinvest it in BTC as soon as the price drops (it eventually will, but when?)

In the first case, I have secured my initial investment in the long term, so I won't need to worry about it, but it also won't make much more for me.

In the second case, the potential for gains is much higher, but I still risk losing my initial investment. I don't need the money now, but I would feel sorry about it.

I plan on keeping what I have left in BTC for the long term. My question is purely about the initial investment that I took out again.

What's your opinion? Thanks!

The strategy to use depends on you or something that could you think could work in your situation, most people just buy bitcoin invest in it, and then come back after a few years to see if it has a good profit, they pick that method because they were just not the kind of daily trading guy or they are busy to other work so its the best strategy for them.

And then there are people who buy bitcoin and then sell when the market price is high and then reinvest in bitcoin again when the market price dump for a higher profit.

Probably waiting for a few years might not be worth it compared to daily trading where you could already get your profit, if you don't really need the money, for now, it's better to just invest your money for long term investment. But you could still risk it selling it and then put it in a savings account where it could earn a good interest and then take it out and reinvest again when the market is dump again.

1805  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Armed robbers steal $450K from Hong Kong crypto trader on: January 20, 2021, 04:04:33 PM
It is already discussed here in the forum I think it is this story.

Physical meet ups for trades is very risky and highly not advisable, this exposes you to a lot of risk, not only for amounts involved in the transaction, but also amounts which would be linked to it.
If for example you made a trade involving a certain amount of bitcoin, but hold a much larger amount, thieves could force you to give up the entire amount as the blockchain is transparent, and someone who meets up with strangers would probably not bother with mixing or coinjoining.

Personally, I would not risk it and don't tell the social media or the of how much I am earning in cryptocurrency or in the stock market.

In some cases, this is because she is already targeted by the thieves,  maybe because she posted some of her earnings online for sure that's why people know that this woman has an investment.

If you think about it it's easy to get robbed especially if they already know about your investment and cryptocurrency, they just need to threaten you and force you to get your funds or open your wallet, but since bitcoin or cryptocurrency is at some point anonymous there's no way they will know if you have a big amount of money as long as you keep it as confidential.
1806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 50$ Donation to Bitcoin Rich on: January 19, 2021, 04:45:59 PM
I just watched this interesting story of Ali Spagnola, She's updating her website and just saw that he has a bitcoin address donation on there and completely forgot about it for years.

She remembers that she started to accept bitcoin in her website because of a gentleman that tells her that bitcoin is cool, and the gentlemen donated 50$ worth of bitcoin back on June 25, 2013, for a painting of bitcoin.

She finds that gentleman and surprises him with a big painting of bitcoin.

Watch the full video :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrWZiRPeJw4

It's really crazy from a 50$ donation is now around 40k$.
1807  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How often are people really hacked out of their BTC? on: January 19, 2021, 01:41:42 PM
Has anyone here been hacked and if so, how? We should make sure that we share our stories of being hacked, even if they are painful,  to ensure that people do not repeat other people's mistakes.

My wallet was never hacked but I experience some of my accounts get hacked in the past but luckily it's not my wallet or any funds related account.

Most of the common ways were through emails like for example you get a receiving an email from your bank which is not really your bank telling that you have 0 balance already, or getting a brand deal email where they require you to download a file that runs a script or has malware in it. You can't really protect yourself 100% from hacks since there is no such thing as being 100% hack-proof in the cyberworld, it could happen or not happened to you as well but it's always better to be safe than sorry just like everyone says. I already received a lot of emails from brand deals from my photography email wanting a deal or something that's obviously malware or phising stuff.

These are some tips that you could do to lessen the chance of getting hack:

-Think before you click, always be careful of clicking a suspicious link
-Use a strong password, use the different passwords in different accounts, you could use a password manager to help you manage many passwords.
-use 2FA authentication, hackers might get access to your account but if you enable this it might help to avoid the hacker accessing your account.
-Only download from trusted sources, since this is where most of the virus and malware came from.
-Do not connect to an untrusted network or wifi, you could use VPN if you really need to.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2544574.msg53020293#msg53020293

1810  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Coinless 2025 on: January 17, 2021, 08:49:18 PM

1811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Own only a small amount of bitcoin? Regardless, DON'T LOSE THEM. on: January 17, 2021, 08:20:46 PM
Here's 2 of the Bitcoin related news I've seen yesterday:

What do both have in common?

A safe assumption would be that both people had their bitcoin for a good number of years already, and they totally underestimated the price rise bitcoin would have. Hence why they got immensely careless about the security of their funds, probably because back then "it's just worth a few hundred dollars anyway".

So what's the lesson here?

Regardless how much your bitcoin is worth today, make sure you don't lose them because we don't know how high bitcoin can go in the future. Your 0.01 BTC holdings might just be worth like $350 today, but who knows, while there are definitely no guarantees, it could buy you your future house sooner or later.

I've been through a good number of bull markets already, and every single time I've absolutely underestimated how high bitcoin could go. Just a quick reminder to those who are totally underestimating the small amount of BTC they hold.

Like other members here in the forum says bitcoin was not really a big deal probably when they buy bitcoin and not knowing its real value in the forum so they probably buy bitcoin put it in a wallet and then forget about it.

They probably make a backup of that password but just lost because of a long time wait, only when the market price has a high value in the market most of the people know that they should put great security into their wallets.

We can't really blame them but it's their loss, it's their fault because they neglect it, and now that it has value they just lost a big amount of money I guess it's just different in the past years.
1812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When to take profit from your current bitcoin holding. on: January 17, 2021, 07:27:55 PM
There are so many predictions in the market but no one really can accurately predict what gonna happened next in the market price of bitcoin.

So so might not make a good decision all the time but the most important thing is your buying low and selling high at that point you did make a profit already, some people have their own plan selling a small percentage when the market price is pumping, and then sell a big percentage when the price is already getting a big resistance.

I mean it's not really a loss when you did make a profit in your investment, you could always go for a long-term investment when it comes to bitcoin so selling a small volume could always be a good option.
1813  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many people hold 1 Bitcoin at the moment? on: January 17, 2021, 06:30:34 PM
Is there any site which have a real-time update of how many addresses have 1 Bitcoin? It seems holding 1 BTC will be a very rare case in the near future. Even now, for most people, it's not that easy to have 1 BTC; it's ~$35k. Is there any site which have such data like-
No of addresses having 1 BTC
No of addresses having 2-10 BTC
etc.
It would be interesting to find out where you are exactly; I mean you are richer than X% people in term of having BTC  Cheesy

You could check glassnode website with a complete graph of the number of addresses with 1 BTC and a lot more statistics with 10BTC,1000BTC,10k BTC.

https://studio.glassnode.com/metrics?a=BTC&category=Addresses&m=addresses.Min1Count

But there are some stats you could only see if you upgrade your account to advance or professional.

1815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am Satoshi Nakamoto on: January 17, 2021, 05:59:16 PM
Comparing the two accounts in writing style seems to be really different to me, and it's kinda sus you know you need enough proof to make us believe.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2999991;sa=showPosts
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3;sa=showPosts;start=0

Can you access your main account here? that might increase the chance to make us believed that you are satoshi, why use a different account if you're coming back.

Still, that would not change anything.
1816  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2 box of pizza and a person who throw his hard drive on: January 17, 2021, 05:42:22 PM
I'm pretty sure you are familiar with Laszlo the person who bought pizza with his bitcoin, now a person name Howell will pay 70 million dollars as a reward just to get his hard drive, but for me, I think it's just a waste of time to find a hard drive on the dumpsite why? the hard drive for sure is already not working since it already there a couple of years and if ever they will find it, it will be worthless since it will not work, also according to them, here is the link:
https://www.businessinsider.com/man-offers-council-70-million-dig-up-bitcoin-hard-drive-2021-1
what are your thoughts on this? for me it may result in an environmental hazard since it's in a dumpsite digging for one hard drive is not a good idea

I guess it would make sense considering the amount that he might get if he is able to recover his bitcoin at that point.

For sure it's too late since the hard drive is lost 7 years ago in the dumpsite so it might not work or it broke at this moment, but I guess if the hard drive doesn't work anymore the reward money will cannot be claim i guess the reward will just come from that hard drive.

That's really frustrating losing that kind amount of money when trading losing a few hundred dollars is really stressful  Grin imagine losing millions.

1818  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Is Dying on: January 16, 2021, 04:18:51 PM
Bitcoin is dying and you could be among those who are killing it. In 2010 Laszlo paid 10,000 bitcoins for a pizza. We all know this story but how many of us understand it? Do you think Laszlo didn't see potential in Bitcoin? He could have hodl and sell it off, but, he made that transaction to prove a point; to prove that Bitcoin is actually a currency. But since the price skyrocketed, only a few care about the sole aim of the currency. Everyone is "buying the dip", or "Investing some $$" in Bitcoin, and that is killing Bitcoin. The average person today sees bitcoin as an investment. Are we really turing this Cryptocurrency into a Crypto Asset?!

A way of making more money due to the price speculation. With every new investor believing this, I hate to say this but, Bitcoin is dying. I know that the chances of Bitcoin's price dropping so bad are small. But if it happens, if it ever happens, a lot of people will lose, a lot will pull out, a lot will tag us scam, a lot will (out of anger) say that we are centralized, and a lot would never know or participate in the real use of Bitcoin. We need to figure this out before it becomes too late.

I disagree, made your point is bitcoin is a currency but most people are seeing it as an investment where they could make a profit.

Still, you can't say that bitcoin is dying because of that reason, bitcoin market price is controlled by supply and demand in the market and the limited supply makes sense that is why we see price volatility making it a good investment, its circulation or volatility whats makes it a good investment.

We could say that bitcoin is still growing or instill in a process, as long as people are using it for whatever they want to it will not die. Even if the market price of bitcoin becomes so high up to a million $ it doesn't mean that bitcoin is dead it's the opposite, in the future, we could see how it will operate as a currency.
1819  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Kahalagahan ng pagkakaroon ng back ups o storage ng Password on: January 16, 2021, 03:22:08 PM
~

Sulat kamay

1820  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Location of Bitcoin ATMs in the Philippines [will update from time to time] on: January 15, 2021, 08:03:35 PM
