1801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open letter to Bruce Wagner on: August 22, 2011, 11:28:24 PM
Given the extremely difficult circumstances that our community has had to endure over the last several months I'm surprised there was even a conference, keeping that in mind I think the 1st ever World Wide Bitcoin Conference went great. All of the major players were there, and slowly more and more media will begin to surface out from the event.

Could it have been better? Of course, and I am sure that in the future Bitconf will only get bigger and better.

You heard it here first folks...  Wink
1803  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Children defy police in Washington, purchase lemonade at Capitol on: August 22, 2011, 05:18:10 PM
They deserved to get arrested.

Although one small complaint I have is that they needed that many cops + a van to arrest a couple of kids.
1804  Other / Politics & Society / Re: This board in one image. on: August 22, 2011, 05:11:26 PM
This board is special  Wink.

We know the solutions...

Raise taxes, cut spending for the USA.

And everyone tries to go to work!

The problem?

Everyones to greedy, lazy, or both.
1805  Economy / Speculation / Re: New Indicator: Number of sites accepting bitcoin on: August 22, 2011, 07:56:40 AM
The trade page is not an accurate reflection of who accepts Bitcoins right now. I conducted a small sample recently of one sub-section (educational software), and found that only 3 of the listed businesses still seemed to be accepting BTC. My own unscientific impression of the market at the moment is that there are quite a lot of sites that thought about accepting BTC, but no longer do.

Exactly, before we try to make any indicators off of the page, we need to have someone go through and actually verify all of them first (and check back regularly).  We have to work at the speed of Internet.
And what about all the sites that are accepting Bitcoin that aren't on the list. Grin
1806  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Cheaper In Bitcoins [Target beta date: September 1st] on: August 22, 2011, 07:49:15 AM
(Just a minor nitpick: please, please don't use the baht symbol for BTC. It's really not understandable why people detest using 1$ as 1BTC but not detest 1฿)
Site looks really cool right now. I would really like a feature to freeze the scrolling thing: that way I can actually read the text without hacking the page. Like maybe if your mouse is hovering over the marquee it stops.
In Mexico and many Latin American countries they officially use the $ sign for pesos.

I say keep the "baht" sign Wink.

RAISE THE TAXES ON THE RICH. CLOSE ALL LOOPHOLES.

FIX THIS PROBLEM.

EDIT:

Some of the statements made in that scam video are totally not true.

"Even if every single American was taxed at 100% of their income, the government would still need to borrow money to pay for it's obligations."

Joke?

How does it feel to have a site completely devoted to trashing possibly one of the greatest software developments of modern-day time?

Do you know it makes you look completely foolish, therefore everything you say in that site is a complete waist of time?

Just letting you know how pathetic it

sorry Sad
Sorry for the misspell Wink.

My point still stands; the entire existence of his site is truly pathetic.

He should be using his time to build something good for the community, instead of trying to make money off us (adsense) by misrepresenting our entire project... He knows half of the assumptions made on his site aren't even remotely true, yet he continues to push it down everyone's throat because it’s “funny”. Slowly he along with all the other charlatans who so adamantly wish for the death of our community will soon start to realize the slow and painful truth.

Bitcoin is not what they thought it was.
Bitcoin is not going anywhere anytime soon.
Bitcoin is already much bigger than any of them will ever be.
1809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Conference - quick thoughts on: August 20, 2011, 10:46:00 PM
Very nice report . I know sometimes it's hard on the day to day grind to cope, especially with all the negativity that we see on the Internet. I think this has so far been a great first year convention, and I think that many great things are ahead for the community. Nice to see people talking and trading Bitcoins IRL!
1810  Economy / Economics / Re: Who Killed Economic Growth? on: August 20, 2011, 10:38:25 PM
The Modern Republican Party, and SOME undercover Democrats.
1811  Economy / Speculation / Re: Up up up! on: August 20, 2011, 04:18:14 PM
My ~$7.50 orders are still in place.  I expect them to be filled sometime in the next few months when the next exchange is hacked or someone gets access to a fat wallet.dat.  It's only a matter of time as the potential rewards for pwning one file are so large.

Nice theory..  but if concurrent issues of bitomat.pl losing it's wallet + mybitcoin only brought it down to approximately that level.. then your 7.50 catch point is probably only good if bitcoins are trading at around $15 or less (approx where they were before these problems)

I don't know how best to estimate the effect of major service failure/hacks... but I have a suspicion that if we see a rise to around $15 again soon, then people will realize that even these perceived 'major' events are really nothing more than a transient side issue as far as bitcoin itself is concerned.  Future such dips might therefore be less drastic.

+1 It's like if your local wachovia gets robbed does the dollar drop?

It's just the economy is in such an infant stage that speculators shoot it down for even the slightest mishaps, even if it's completely unrelated to Bitcoin or the block-chain itself (mybitcoin).

Mark my words, don't shoot yourself in 3 months when the price is tripple of what you are bidding... Seriously now's the time to buy
1812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Goodbye... on: August 20, 2011, 04:09:14 PM
I am leaving the forum and the world of Bitcoin. As school starts soon I am leaving probably until another vacation or even until next summer. My site SwagBucks will still be up I will just pay everyone when I get back. I need to get ready for school and enjoy the rest of my summer. Thank you all for teaching me the world of Bitcoin. Any responses people leave wont be responded to for a long time  Smiley
You will be furious and burn those school books if Bitcoin takes off.  Wink
1813  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Secure your positions on: August 20, 2011, 06:08:47 AM
@Serge - Okay you got me. Please edit that to be:

You'll probably want to secure your Bitcoin positions prior to any possible price increases.
Wheres the report?

I want to see it.
1814  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coming Very Soon, a real Bitcoin you can hold! (and is worth 1 BTC) on: August 20, 2011, 06:02:21 AM
Because Bitcoin is projected to deflate in the future, I don't know how well any of these "tangible" Bitcoin projects will do. What happens when Bitcoins are worth "thousands", how are you going to get change back for that coin? A deflationary system would only have a chance to work in the digital world, since a deflationary system will always require you to break off from what you already have.

Easy, just make new denominations when the time comes.  Although each coin costs the same to make, at the same time Bitcoin value rises, I am sure that eventually someone will be able to do it on a massive scale for cheaper.

Makes sense. So a good business plan for a private company to do would be to get into the Bitcoin minting sector, and introduce this "tangible currency" to troubled third world nations who want to get rid of their dictators and want a free source of money. That would be one of the biggest goals people should be working on right now, is getting underdeveloped nations to accept this. It would be so easy to sell, but would obviously require money!

Are you serious? An eBook?  Cheesy

This is going to be good!

As others here have said upward trend looks good no matter what happens (eBook or not).

Cliffs:  Ironically, the capitalism worshiping libertard crowd knows nothing about business.

In a world without regulation, I bet the already established companies would buy everything out, destroy everything, while the libertard crowd keeps yelling for litigation, government action, and legal action against them.
Personally, I think bitcoin is already dead.

Don't be silly AyeYo Bitcoin is far from dead...
