1801  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What's wrong with eating meat? on: April 23, 2014, 01:50:09 PM
OP it seems you were leading an unhealthy lifestyle and had a bad diet before. You said you ate at all the fast-food places. Maybe that's why you feel better and more energized now.

Let's see now. According to Consumer Trends, 83% of Americans (Vegans only make up .5% of the population) have to drink coffee every single morning just so they can wake up for the day.

I don't think we're going to agree in the end, but to each their own. I don't eat meat often, and have gone months without eating it and felt fine. Would I cut it out completely? No. Would I recommend vegan diets for children? Of course not, that's inhumane.

http://naturalhygienesociety.org/diet-veganbaby.html

Whenever you take up a diet, you have to properly educate yourself on it. Here is where a vegan diet works out:

Here are some pregnancy facts:

http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/pregnancy.htm
Umm I read from that link you provided and it's vegan propaganda. How is this diet natural and wholesome if a lot of foods that you're eating have to be 'fortified' with nutrients? That's not natural at all. Yeah, "sure you can go on this diet that's doesn't fill your nutritional requirements, just make sure you eat stuff that has been artificially fortified with all the good nutrients your body requires." How would you expect people in parts of the world who don't have access to these fortified foods to prosper on a vegan diet? Right, they can't. Don't try to use Indians as an example because a lot of them secretly eat meat. Plus, while they may not suffer from high obesity rates, they do have high rates of diabetes and heart disease. And they generally preform poorly in sports.

On a different note, consider this. Quinoa, which contains all of the essential amino acids, used to be the poor man's food in South America. Then one day, the white man discovers this 'super' food and starts marketing it to the masses of first-world folks. Eventually, the prices for quinoa quadruple, leaving the poor person there unable to afford their staple food and suffering health-wise because of that. How is that fair to those poor people who are now suffering because of this? How is that good for the environment? How much energy is wasted shipping those foods from far away countries to your local grocery store?

So you see there's negative aspects in regards to plant-based foods, not just meats. The Wal-Mart corporation does a lot of harm for the environment, why don't you boycott them instead of boycotting meat to feel better about yourself?

Let's see now. According to Consumer Trends, 83% of Americans (Vegans only make up .5% of the population) have to drink coffee every single morning just so they can wake up for the day.

Then in the afternoon they have to drink even more coffee. Then companies started coming out with energy drinks just so these guys can get through their day without feeling so tired and lethargic all the time. They came out with drinks like Monster and 5 Hour Energy filled with tons of crap that's not good for your health and people actually drink it (there are actually a lot of deaths attributed to Monster and 5 Hour Energy and other energy drinks).

While your post about coffee-drinking Americans may be true, it's irrelevant to the discussion at hand. Most Americans lead sedentary lifestyles and gorge themselves on processed junk; of course they're going to feel like crap, whether they eat meat or not. A vegan who only eats processed foods and is lazy will probably have the same energy levels as the average unhealthy meat-eater. I've also read reports of people going vegan who developed medical issues over time due to severe nutritional imbalances. If you cut meat out of your diet completely, you really need to be on top of your game to ensure you get all your necessary nutrients. In fact, many doctors warn people from putting their children on vegan diets due to vegan-related deaths. I've heard there's even people who put their pet dogs and cats on vegan diets...

Oh yeah, that Einstein quote you mentioned isn't good advice; fatty acids are essential for us.

I don't think we're going to agree in the end, but to each their own. I don't eat meat often, and have gone months without eating it and felt fine. Would I cut it out completely? No. Would I recommend vegan diets for children? Of course not, that's inhumane.

It's true, they can't be spent.

I'd be willing to be a beta tester for you. I've sent you an email.

The best diet is the scratch diet, as in cook your food from scratch with raw ingredients.
1806  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Vircurex is now missing 5000 BTC - SCAM - Let's find KUMALA on: April 22, 2014, 02:11:47 AM
Why are people acting like it was painful obvious that vircurex was a problem? I didn't find it. I was able to dodge Mt.Gox but vircurex' fractional reserve isn't easy to find unless you're active on the forms around the time it happened, the news reports make it sound like they covered the losses. How was I suppose to know about these investor reports? Never turned up on any searches I made.

Don't listen to news reports that say they've covered their losses. As soon as something bad happens at an exchange, run away as fast as you can and don't look back.
1807  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Any BTC PTC (PaidToClick) out there? on: April 22, 2014, 02:06:04 AM
Why waste time on stuff like this that only gives you micro amounts of btc?
1808  Economy / Speculation / Re: Final Warning for Long-term holders... on: April 21, 2014, 01:38:17 AM
The gox insolvency amounted to over half a billion dollars in losses. It's not the same as when btc was only worth a few dollars.
1809  Economy / Speculation / Re: Final Warning for Long-term holders... on: April 20, 2014, 03:45:01 PM
If you are very bullish on btc long-term, then your warning probably shouldn't be towards the long-term holders Wink

I think we will see a crash once gox's coins have been liquidated, but I doubt it will go as low as $50, unless someone dumps a large amount on an exchange causing a flash crash. It's unlikely to happen again, but I wouldn't write it off completely.
1810  Economy / Speculation / Re: Up from here or more FUD? on: April 20, 2014, 03:33:14 PM
What do you guys think about the recent crossing to 500?  Is this a good sign or is there more FUD to come (that will bring prices sub 400 again)?

There's always more FUD to come. I wonder which btc service is going to lose all their customer's coins next week. Or which bank is going to close accounts that deal with btc. Or which government warns people not to use btc.

It's like a nonstop tug-of-war between the supporters and detractors.

I think captchadd did a good job of reviving BQC. We were able to dump our coins for 1 btc per 2500 bqc. Those prices will never be seen again with so many coins on the market.
1812  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC will have no more "to the moon" rises. Face it, BTC is becoming BANKING on: April 20, 2014, 03:55:17 AM
It's going to at least $100k within a handful of years. Fundamentals dictate it. Up to you what you do with that.

The fundamentals dictate what btc is as a protocol and currency. They don't guarantee that btc will be worth over $100k in a few years.
1813  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC will have no more "to the moon" rises. Face it, BTC is becoming BANKING on: April 19, 2014, 05:34:13 PM
For some reason, the average person on here thinks btc has to either go to the moon or crash into the ground. I guess they don't realize that each time btc explodes upwards, the likelihood of a similar rise becomes less and less. Anybody who casts doubt on another meteoric rise is shunned and attacked. Greed is a great motivator, some of these people think that btc is the greatest thing to grace their lives.
1814  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt. Gox's final impact on BTC... on: April 19, 2014, 05:14:45 PM
Who would gox owe money to other than their customers and employees? Rent for their office and servers? Or maybe a big bank loan to fund a crappuccino addiction? Lawyers?

It just doesn't seem like their expenses were that big.
1815  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy support is nonexistent over Huobi on: April 19, 2014, 05:17:21 AM
But the price is going up to $10,000 tomorrow right? Jump on the train right? To the mars right? There is no banking ban in China even though cosmofly told us 3 weeks in advance right?

I thought you are bullish now?
1816  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bank of China closes another bitcoin exchange account today on: April 19, 2014, 05:08:54 AM
Such translate, much irrelevant.

It may be irrelevant to you, but not to the people who trade on the exchange.
1817  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy support is nonexistent over Huobi on: April 19, 2014, 05:01:36 AM
Demand is probably drying up in China due to the bank ban. The Chinese ain't rushing to buy btc like that used to...

1819  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt. Gox's liquidation an its impact... on: April 18, 2014, 03:21:50 PM
If people recover some of their btc from gox, we'll see a good chunk of those coins for sale on other exchanges from people who got burned investing everything and would be happy just to recover some fiat of of it. Not everyone wants to hodl btc till it reaches the moon like some people here would try to make you believe.

This is such a riot!

http://wallstcheatsheet.com/stocks/10-once-thriving-products-doomed-to-fail.html/10/?ref=OB

This article lumps Bitcoin in with once thriving but doomed to fail technologies like Land Line, Fax Machines and PC's!

This is too awesome to pass up reading.

I love this one: "the main use for Bitcoins is said to be the illegal and anonymous purchasing of drugs and weapons". And the author's beloved cash isn't?

What is the current main use of btc as a currency for purchasing goods? Overstock and giftcards?
