18081  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100 bitcoins. Will I be a millionaire by 2020? on: April 09, 2015, 10:04:33 AM
It is possible for bitcoin to be $10,000 in 2020.
possible yes, but very unlikely if massive adoption does not happen.

we are rising by 0.15 cent a day(based on some simply calculations, starting from end 2009  or january 2010) , from here to 2020 there are 5 years, this mean that at this current rate, we can just double in price...

not looking good...

just keep them on paper wallet, not on exchange.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=994059.msg10804553#msg10804553

There's no way I'd keep them on an exchange!  Friend of mine lost 70BTC on MtGox even though I was warning him for weeks beforehand.

better to keeps them on another cold storage and encrypt it, paper wallet are less secure than an encrypted wallet

there is a thread talking about it
18082  Economy / Speculation / Re: why do these 'bears' sit around and talk about bitcoin all day? on: April 09, 2015, 10:01:04 AM
its like if i didn't like oranges and sat around talking in an orange forum all day. i dont get it?
i hope bitcoin crashes to the ground but i wont spam about it.

Why do you "hope bitcoin crashes to the ground", what did BTC do to deserve that?

because it's only a bears market right now, it's boring, the price is just being manipulated over and over again, if it crash hard noob can finally get in again
18083  Economy / Speculation / Re: panic kicking in, sub 200 by friday on: April 09, 2015, 09:59:48 AM
Keep in mind, and I'm not saying this is the case here: there is always the chance that high profile accounts are hijacked, bought or otherwise used to orchestrate a specific opinion. Echoing the OP by fresh accounts can serve as further indicator. If there is any suspicion, it may help to compare the sentiment of the message with post histories, to spot irregularities.

it could be, because if you see his post history, he wasn't posting so much before in this section, but his style seems the same...
18084  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BTC Games on: April 09, 2015, 09:54:37 AM
most are addicted to dice, so i dont see any reason for new btc games lol.
People want new games, myself as an example. Dice gets kind of boring so any new cool games I will try out. New dice sites I just skip over them because they are all more or less the same and all dice.

myself too, i don't like dice, they pure gambling, i prefer game that does require skill, the more higher the better, and a reward in btc based on score or how many kills, or something else

would be cool to have something like that(there is only hyper for now that have done that, they can be converted to bitcoin)
18085  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Would You Use a Bitcoin Debit Card? on: April 09, 2015, 09:42:21 AM
the idea is cool but, no i would not use it because

fees too high

no verification limit too low

no anon with amount above 500

and i don't know how fast are money transferred from my account to debit card, they can be used istantly?
18086  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is just to complicated for the average person to use.. on: April 09, 2015, 09:36:46 AM
definitely not true, it's very easy for anyone to use it, it is only difficult to understand the technical aspects of it

and obtaining bitcoin is easy too, the problem is more related to taxes than anything else
18087  Economy / Speculation / Re: China lower the power price and cause bitcoin crash? on: April 09, 2015, 09:29:02 AM
why it should? you know that the numbers of bitcoin mined is a fixed number? 2 cent lower won't change anything

the problem with bitcoin crash is more related  to the fact that there aren't enough buyers, nothing else

18089  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need to know more about cold storage on: April 09, 2015, 09:20:58 AM
=snip=

you just put a backup of your wallet there, for security purpose

Maybe you didn't phrase this correctly. If yes, please correct it. This may confuse other users.

A back up in a place never will be a cold storage. What you store in cold storage must not be in a hot/online storage. If yes, then there isn't a need for cold storage because cold storage is protect your Bitcoins from hackings and all but if you store this in a hot/online wallet, private keys are already exposed to danger.

actually i store both, a backup and a different wallet in a cold storage, the first even if you use it in a wallet(low amount) you need a copy of it anyway, your hdd could have be damage one day or other accident, the second with more bitcoin, which it isn't shared with the hot wallet, as you said

But a real cold wallet must be never connected on Internet and especially their copy/buckup should be never exposed outside from that "offline machine". The cold wallet question bring to my mind the Bter cone 'hack', they have said someone stolen 7'000 bitcoin from their cold storage but the unique way for hack and stole those Bitcoins was to be physically in front of that machine/device. Remember if you expose a cold wallet online also for 1 minute you can't continue to name it 'cold'

well i'm must retrieve those bitcoin to spend them(i don't like electrum and company, i just use Core) they are still in a cold storage, but when i plug the usb they become "hot" i know, it does not bother me, because in my desktop i have a "trap wallet" which is the best antivirus, if they don't steal that wallet, then i know my machine is safe and i can plug the usb without worrying about anything

cold storage are like hot storage, but they are disconnected from the internet , that's why they are called "cold" storage, they could be paper wallet or usb, or another desktop

you just put a backup and a new wallet there, for security purpose
18092  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Securest method of Bitcoin storage on: April 09, 2015, 06:15:59 AM
i would suggest a backup wallet(a second wallet), in case the first got corrupted, 1 wallet only is a bit risky
18093  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which BTC wallet are you using on: April 09, 2015, 06:10:10 AM
i don't see the point of having small amount on coinbase and a big one on bitcoin core, because if they steal from coinbase it mean that your pc is likely infected, which mean that they will steal your btc from core too...

what i'm saying is that having two hot wallet is only giving more bitcoin to thieves

I didn't get your point. Coinbase is an online wallet, so storing some Bitcoins in it will help you to send Bitcoins everywhere. You obviously won't be able to take Bitcoin core with you all time.

About hacks: Coinbase can be hacked without hacking your PC. However, it is not the case for desktop/phone wallets. Splitting the Bitcoins in two or more wallets are good but storing in a place where you don't have access to private keys is far less secure.

ah yeah if you talk about other device such a smartphone then yes, but in that case i prefer to have bitcoin core(or whatever it is called) for mobile, i can't trust online wallet at all
18094  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining worth it nowadays? on: April 08, 2015, 09:11:25 PM
yes it is! you just need to do it smarter cause it's much harder than before

look for:

cheap electricity
     -good hosting or good friends...
cheap miners
-bulk buy or being at the right time on the ''buy button''
use of the heat
-perfect for winter time! heated water from c1 or miner edge, if they come to market, for showers, washing machines, sinks, jacuzzi, swimming pools, etc)

good luck!

we are at the point were even with free electricity you won't roi, so no it's not profitable at least for 99% of people

the only way to make profit in mining right now is by having free electricity and already made roi on your miners, in other words, you should not invest
18095  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which BTC wallet are you using on: April 08, 2015, 07:54:58 PM
I am using Coinbase Bitcoin Core 0.10.0

So which one is it?  Coinbase wallet or Bitcoin Core wallet?

Both are completely different from one another.  Coinbase is a web wallet and Bitcoin Core is a desktop wallet.

He may have missed an "and" there. Roll Eyes Coinbase to store small amount and Bitcoin Core to store bigger amount.

i don't see the point of having small amount on coinbase and a big one on bitcoin core, because if they steal from coinbase it mean that your pc is likely infected, which mean that they will steal your btc from core too...

what i'm saying is that having two hot wallet is only giving more bitcoin to thieves

I am using Coinbase Bitcoin Core 0.10.0

like i said above, not a good strategy, unless you hold a very small amount on both

better to have only one hot wallet(not on site, but locally, in this case leaves core and discards coinbase), the rest of your saving in a cold storage/other dedicated machine(the latter will give you the possibility to have two hot wallet)
18096  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if YOU could put 1 feature, change, whatever, into the Bitcoin protocol? on: April 08, 2015, 07:11:19 PM
One change that  I would implement first and foremost. Is a way to prevent the 51% attack from ever being carried out.
Dont ask me how I would go about it, but its something that should be at the top of EVERYONE's list whos interested in the survivability of Bitcoin longterm. As long as the 51% attack exists .. Bitcoin never stands to become a worldwide dominant currency, because its really not 'trustless' long as 51% attack is possible.

there isn't already a solution comining to it(still experimental but...it is on the way)? it's called supernode, if i'm not mistaken they have the task to check if the last block is the most valid based on its transaction history, so the longest chain don't count anymore
18097  Economy / Speculation / Re: How hard will you try to sell your bags now? on: April 08, 2015, 05:34:32 PM
holding or sinking with it, there is no other way now

you are a whale in disguise, i can't trust you, probably a sockpuppet of fallling
18098  Economy / Speculation / Re: One thing I don't understand about pump and dump ... on: April 08, 2015, 05:11:19 PM
well it's not returning exactly at the same level before the pump, for every pump there is a small correction in price that rise the value by a little

This is exactly what I am talking about. I don't see the small increase in price. We are back to 245 after all these pumps?

yeah, this is due because there are only whales that are playing now, and no newbies, that small correction was probably caused by them i guess
18099  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if YOU could put 1 feature, change, whatever, into the Bitcoin protocol? on: April 08, 2015, 05:05:06 PM
the only thing that i want right now, is a faster confirmation, i'm not sure how the miners feel about receiving a block every...let's say 1 min(like doge)

but it would require reviewing the block structure and reward....too much of an hard fork i guess
