It would need to cost about $15-20 to be worth it.

Mining efficiency is the same at chip level. Of course having 300 chip together make the machine more efficient, and for this reason industrial miners are built with so many chips.

Bitaxe cost is outrageous, we do agree (and I guess the final cost could be double of what you mentioned above). Bear in mind that the project is till in the tinkering phase: both software and hardware are continuously updated and optimised. This keeps cost high, because limit the volume production. I guess that once platform stabilise prices will go down sharply.
1825  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: NERDMINER: Bitcoin lottery miners on: September 22, 2023, 09:57:03 AM
This is exactely the Bitaxe project I described in the OP.
I didn't check the link before. I did just now: $95 for 1/330th of the power of an ASIC miner. That's 1/41th of the price.
It would need to cost about $15-20 to be worth it.

1826  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: NERDMINER: Bitcoin lottery miners on: September 22, 2023, 08:35:26 AM
This is a non-profit project. That is a no profit for the user. With such a setup, you won't probably mine a single satoshi in your lifetime. This is NOT for economic profit. The total loss of monetary funds invested in this project is almost inevitable.
~
The nerdminer is 1,500,000 times less efficient than a miner.
What would it take to add a small ASIC miner into this? Would it be possible to take 1/1000th of the chips of an ASIC miner, and instead of 3500W run at 5W (a bit more per hash but still small enough to run off USB power)? It would be great for decentralization to have millions of people do some mining, but I guess the market isn't big enough to make production economically viable. You'd have to produce many millions of them to get the price low enough to sell them, and still they'd have to compete against millions of ASIC miners that are a thousand times more powerful.
I'd like it though! It would still be not for profit, but at least there would be some chance to find a block.

i find it's a shame ASIC chip isn't used in any way.
It really sucks that laws of scale made miners so large, power hungry and loud to be efficient.

This is exactely the Bitaxe project I described in the OP.
It’s a 300nthish of a S17 or of a S19, depending on the version.
It utilises a single instance of the very same ASICS chip instead of the roughly 300 you can find on an industrial miner.

As you are the second one asking this, I probably didn’t put enough emphasis on this in the OP. I am going to fix it soon.

If you are still undecided, this is the definitive comparison chart:

Now you officially have no reason not to buy a nerdminer!
Just for the lols, guys.
1828  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: BITCOIN la mia analisi CICLICA E VOLUMETRICA on: September 20, 2023, 09:25:14 PM

1829  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: Hal Finney e la Bitcoin Bank on: September 20, 2023, 09:06:25 PM

1830  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everything you wanted to know about Grayscale BTC Trust but were afraid to ask! on: September 20, 2023, 08:55:37 PM
I assume holders of GBTC will be given a choice to convert their GBTC shares to bitcoin after approval?

Probably not. Typically, only "authorized participants" can redeem shares for assets or deposit assets for shares and the transaction size is generally very large. For example, a GLD authorized participant exchanges 100,000 shares at a time, worth about $18 million.

most ETF are organised where "agents" (darkpools) are managers of an allotment(basket) of coin held in custody of the ETF service where they manage the shares to sell to customers

for a customer to redeem btc from the custodian, they would need to (maybe along with other customers) accumulate enough shares to equal the 'btc basket' amount..  to then vote to unlock the btc basket from custody. usually these btc baskets are in lumps of 1000+ coins per basket

I cannot remember on the top of my head, but I think, given the peculiar qualities of the Bitcoin, you can ask for the delivery of a very small quantity of coins. Of course, there is a hefty one-off fee that discourages that, but I nevertheless believe conversion is easier for GBTC (when applicable) than a traditional ETF.
The point is that at the moment, the possibility is precluded, as the primary market is closed.

While it's fun project, i find it's a shame ASIC chip isn't used in any way. By ASIC chip, i mean something like BM1387 (which used on Antminer S17 and GekkoScience Compac F).

For this, you can go to the Bitaxe project, who uses exactly that chip, or the S19’s chip in the Ultra version.
All the references are in OP.

I didn't know there are other Bitcoin solo pool besides solo ckpool. Do you know how reliable is it compared with solo ckpool?

Sincerely, I have no idea. I guess the pool hasn’t mined a single bitcoin so far.
But I think you can join other pools as well.

You forget to include actual link for Han Solo Mining.
That has been fixed, thanks.
1832  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: NERDMINER: Bitcoin lottery miners on: September 20, 2023, 06:16:18 AM
Interesting little project that it's relative easy to make it, I know LILYGO T-Display is dirt cheap to buy and it's widely available on internet.
Code for nerdminer is open source and that is great, but I think this would be useful only if I had time machine to get back in past and actually mine some BTC Wink

Mixed feelings about this.
Of course, going back to 2010, when these devices could have been used to mine some bitcoin would be extremely useful, with or without a nerdminer.
But also, for the twofold reason I explained in the OP, these are useful gadgetry for at least the couple of reasons I outliner there.

1833  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: Tabelle e grafici statistiche on-chain on: September 19, 2023, 09:35:54 PM

1834  Economy / Economics / Re: Cointime Economics : Glassnode framework for Bitcoin on-chain metrics on: September 19, 2023, 09:28:31 PM
I might be joining too many dots here.
But ARK has been sponsoring this Bitcoin on-chain effort by Glassnode.
ARK has filed for the listing of an actively managed fund based on on-chain analysis:

Amid spot BTC ETF effort, Ark and 21Shares seek to launch other crypto funds
Quote
As Ark Invest and 21Shares remain in pursuit of a spot bitcoin ETF, they’re also looking to bring three other crypto funds to market.

The new product proposals were submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission the same day the regulator chose to delay its decision on the companies’ ETF that would hold bitcoin directly.

Empowered Funds, a subsidiary of white-label ETF platform Alpha Architect, is listed as the investment adviser of the proposed funds. 21Shares and Ark Invest would serve as sub-advisers.

One of the ETFs would invest in cash-settled bitcoin futures contracts traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), according to an Aug. 11 filing. The planned offering — to be called Ark 21Shares Active Bitcoin Futures ETF (ARKA) — can also hold US Treasury securities, money market instruments and repurchase agreements.

A second proposed fund, the Ark 21Shares Active On-Chain Bitcoin Strategy ETF (ARKC), would similarly invest at least 25% in bitcoin futures contracts, or ARKA — and the remaining assets to cash and cash equivalents.

But unlike ARKA, the so-called on-chain fund uses a proprietary trend indicator to formulate its allocation strategy by determining whether the bitcoin (BTC) market trend is bullish or bearish. Inputs to the trend indicator could include historical price data or on-chain data, the document adds.

I might be speculating too much here, but maybe ARK will use Glassnode's new metrics to monitor the on-chain activity used to run that fund?

1835  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Interviews] with Bitcointalk members on: September 19, 2023, 09:05:54 PM

....and for example, one time more than 20 years ago, I recall telling a story about eating some live squid to some family members, and I recall that I sent an e-mail on the topic, and my e-mail was only a few paragraphs, but I went over a lot of the details of how my experience had gone... and it probably took me more than three hours to write those three paragraphs.. I wrote the first draft, and then edited it, and then the next day, I edited it again, and added some more facts, and then right around the third day I sent out that e-mail and my live squid eating story..

Wait, wait, wait: what?
You just said we are not the only recipient of JJG's walls of text TM?
Are you telling us there are various versions of JJG's walls of text TM in the various alternate realities where you are living?
I thought we were special!

Rumor Mill: Blackrock spot ETF granted preliminary approval to move forward

SEC staff has 20-ish more days to make a decision on Grayscale ruling. What are their options?

1. To appeal - they will get one more year to delay the inevitable - approving a spot ETF. SEC's arguments are well known and they will  not stand in any court.
2. To deny again Grayscale and to revoke futures ETF's on the grounds of suspected manipulations. But the futures ETF's will immediately sue SEC for unjust treatment and it is obvious that they will win.
3. To approve all ETF's at once, so that SEC won't lose another trial. SEC may also put some mild conditions as surveillance agreement for Grayscale, or an information agreement for all, which will give SEC more power to investigate fraud and manipulation.

LOL.
1 is actually two different options. They have two separate, but equally not viable ways to appeal (en-banc court, and supreme court).
2. They cannot do that, unless they can demonstrate a new thesis for this that is not "capricious", as the court defined their previous rejection.
3. Central scenario. Mid October most probable review.

There is also a 4th option..... SEC approves all the ETF, but Grayscale. (you read it here first).

1840  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everything you wanted to know about Grayscale BTC Trust but were afraid to ask! on: September 19, 2023, 12:16:59 PM

Is there enough BTC for every GBTC? That is the question!

Of course, the answer is yes.
Every share in the Trust is backed by the corresponding amount of BTC (via entitlement).
So even if hypothetically every single GBTC holder would ask for conversion (something it is not possible as per @odolvlobo explanation, not a single Bitcoin would be traded in the market.
