1821  Economy / Speculation / Re: Poll: When will we see $200 again? on: August 07, 2013, 10:42:39 PM
Not 100% sure but Paypal founders has nothing to do with todays eBay Paypal.

I doubt this would be financaly wise for them, they are sucking money out of every catch they can (but not with Bitcoin).

I feel like a founders of a company still have indirect influence over the company they created. This is like saying MSFT doesn't respect what Bill Gates thinks simply because he left the reins to Ballmer. I'm sure the old founders' actions of investing in Bitpay and not Paypal is sure to stir some discussion in the boardrooms

This is totaly different stuff. Like saying Youtube founders have any influence while I believe they are not even around Youtube anymore. When you sell the whole company to a large corporation and when you leave you are out.

not necessarily. My friend's mom sold her veterinary hospital to a corporation and they still keep her around because they need her or could use her. The employees that still work there still look up to her. Even IF Paypal's founders aren't in an official advisory capacity, like I said, they still have some influence. Yeah they can't tell Paypal what to do, but they can still affect them and what their courses of action will be, especially by investing in a competing company. that's all i'm trying to say.

youtube + google =! paypal + ebay

youtube's business model has a pretty simple formula, ads. That's google's game, they have no need for youtube's creator at this point, he might not have much more to offer to Google.
paypal on the other hand, is very complex. Paypal's founders very possibly could have a new innovation on their hands, and Paypal should be very interested in understanding what that is

Yes, but Willett is taking a little break until Monday. Presumably to refocus on his actual job and family for a bit while he mulls things over.

Whether or not it's a hoax, it would make perfect business sense for paypal to adopt Bitcoin.

With PayPal-Like Ambitions For Bitcoin, BitPay Raises $2M Led By Founders Fund

The Founders Fund has three of Paypal's founders with them.

Paypal would stand to gain max ROI on their investments of being a licensed MSB in most of the world.

And Paypal CEO John Donahoe has been quoted as saying Bitcoin is on PP's radar and they're exploring it. let me find it

Odalv why not?

That's probably the best answer, yeah why not?

you might get a bank calling you to ask why you're wiring x amount of USD, but they'll still let it go through

I'm going offline until tomorrow, but you guys have my sincere thanks.

Ripper and vokain, I didn't officially set up a bounty, but I would like tip these two guys (maybe 3 BTC each) once I start tapping Exodus Address funds September 1st. Do you approve?

bytemaster needs a tip for his insane persistence, and d'aniel for actually describing the attack that bytemaster felt must exist.

Too much stuff going on, I haven't seen what they're being tipped for.
I've started a new Google Group dedicated to MasterCoin.
Willet - can you:

1. Put it in the OP
2. Start a thread describing this tipping and their contribution?

i'd prefer if bytemaster gets 3, daniel gets like 2BTC and thezerg gets 1. just in my eyes first second and third place, but that's just me. or maybe 1.5 between zerg and dan. discuss?

Join my forum and discuss in a separate, dedicated thread?
I have no idea what's going on with the bounty.

they convinced Willett that the last milestone as Willett specified would be unworkable. the tip is for their persistence upon doing so.

When is the deadline for the 30% bonus?

I assume it's any deposits before August 7th, 2013, 06:53:54 PM

I think it's a math function. if there are 3.4 weeks left then you get 34% for instance
1829  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The Krater Miner on: August 07, 2013, 09:58:50 PM
probably. it might not be but personally i wouldn't bother with them. Consider, if they're accepting bitcoin, why are they not mining instead if they don't think the return on their equipment will be greater than what they sell for it? because the return of selling to you guys now is greater.

Why don’t you have a picture of a unit?
We didn’t bother with making a mockup of what our unit will look like (because it would most likely change). We are in the process of having it professionally built (along with custom made heat sinks). It will be relatively plain, but efficient and effective.
1830  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp has taken over MTGOX on volume! on: August 07, 2013, 08:52:51 PM
There's a cool 1k+ and 500+ askwall on bitstamp & btc-e respectively. Not nearly at the levels we were used to on gox but there is a trend... The rats are leaving.

Nash Equilibrium.

This will be interesting when the new American exchanges open their doors. kraken, coinsetter, tradehill, where you at??

http://www.courthousenews.com/2013/08/06/Bitcoin.pdf

US federal court rules that bitcoins are money. As much as this sounds self-evident and trivial to us here, it sets an important precedent. The ramifications are many, some good and some bad for some of us. Personally, I am happy to see this.

first link reads the same as all those news reporting Thailand banning bitcoin drama.  if you read carefully forbe's artile, you will see that court decided against Shaver's claims that BTCST did not operate in investment securities and did not fall under SEC jurisdiction, which court decided against. The Judge simply recognized Bitcoin being as a form of money which can be used in investment securities, exchanged for traditional currencies and to buy goods and services with it.  There were no official ruling on whether Bitcoin is legally defined as a currency or not.

in other thread you mentioned Liberty Dollars and that there is a bunch of laws designed specifically for currencies inclining that bitcoiners may be in trouble with this 'precedent' for making their own money. Firstly you dismiss the fact that US does not prohibit private currencies, there are few that exists and function today in the US. Secondly bitcoin does not try to compete with and look closely resembling with legal tender for which LD got in trouble; there are no single entity issuing Bitcoins and no single miner has control over bitcoin's production mechanism and clearly do not fall under any currency counterfeiting laws that protect USD.
1832  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp has taken over MTGOX on volume! on: August 07, 2013, 08:31:24 PM
There is one thing the complete lack of volume on Bitstamp tells me; that there is a very thin population of traders just iceberging their activity, with little real diversity of position.

so the trading is just done between BTCs not being hoarded? Is this what you mean?  Huh

Just the net coins that have been bought there since the peak. With the $ that have been transferred from Ft. Gox.

Those positions are now filled.

Yeah, personally I wired money there just to buy some cheap coins around 75. I don't plan on letting go of them there (yet).

and which peak, 101?
1833  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is not a virtual currency! on: August 07, 2013, 08:28:06 PM
at this point I don't even care what people think bitcoin is, as long as they buy it. i could try to specify what it really is but there's simply not enough time in the world

this man is right:

1834  Economy / Speculation / Re: Everyone will cash out at $1000 on: August 07, 2013, 08:14:20 PM
A bunch of people were dreaming about how fantastic it would be if each BTC was worth $100.

But you know what takes over when you are near your price? Greeeeed. Cheesy

If it goes to $1000, $2000 is only one doubling away...

i can attest to that. all the way up to $100/btc i was screaming overbought...then when we went over $200 "we're never gonna stop no one's selling anymore buy buy buy" hahahaha

lessons learned  Embarrassed

maybe a bit premature but..?

1837  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-08-04 WSJ: Famed Trader Joe Lewis Backs Bitcoin (hoax) on: August 07, 2013, 06:52:49 PM
Bottom line, this was contrived.

Now, I ask you this: How much influence can I bestow upon a person who has never heard of Bitcoin before if I show them a physical copy of the WSJ depicting a whale investing $200M in some Bitcoin venture?

Think about that!

So, in the grand scheme of things, this scheme was to drum up support for this mining outfit...or something bigger?

don't quit pondering, there's always a way, just maybe not the way you thought it would be the past year. Smiley

tl;dr: funds will likely be in either an m-of-n wallet so that he needs 2/3 keys to spend the coins or maybe a variation thereof in the case that votes will be tallied by investment size (seems to be more fair). the keys will be held by as-of-yet formalized, independent holders who have a desire to see the project through to fruition AND keeping the fund healthy. we just have to trust Willett to keep 1exodus safe until then.

Like I said, he personally controls all the fund.
This is a direct donation of money to a single person with no escrow or return guarantees.
If that changes in the future, my statement will no longer be true, but right now, it is.

True.
1840  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: August 07, 2013, 10:43:25 AM
It appears that my method of funding this project is still quite contentious. I want to address a couple of those issues further:

    • Some of you seem to think that  my own money is not at risk if this project fails. That is not true. If this project fails (probably because somebody else does something similar, but does it better and/or faster), I would return any remaining funds to investors. I would get a partial refund just like everyone else.

But there is no way of guaranteeing that, as you personally control all the funds.

    Quote
    • I modeled this fundraiser like a kick-starter, but investors are motivated similarly to angel investors (venture capitalists investing in early stage companies). The risk they are taking is very high, but the potential reward is very high as well.

With Kickstarter, a project has a set funding target, which it must meet to proceed.
If a project fails to reach its targets, all funds are returned to the investors.
The funds are escrowed by a trusted third party.
None of things is true here
    [/list]
