1841  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: BitFury has the No. 1 Crown for Now... on: February 28, 2016, 10:07:50 PM
Bitfury has a massive {exploration mining} farm (two or perhaps three) in Texas.

Point out where power is USD 0.192 per kwh, could be even less... & several more farms in Romania & Russia.

Are you sure the power is  USD 0.192 per kwh? It is too expensive. That is the price in Europe, not in the US.

I'm wondering saying 2 cent's or less.  I would be more likely to believe that with Bitfury I suspect they have some pretty good electricity pricing with bulk usage and no doubt went were it was cheap.

I don't think we what they can be though. Once they perfect the new NM chip... it's hard to say how big they might get.
1842  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: February 28, 2016, 10:04:16 PM
Same here on the little stuff. I get so sidetracked after I get going.
Phil always knocks it out of the park though and that rules.

It must be nice to have space to do all of these cool projects. Colour me jelly.

Space is a nice thing to have.  I have a few project areas.... that all have projects waiting on me.  That is my issue with space is I tend to find projects.... and have a few going at once.

Eventually I will get around to all of them someday.

Yea mine keeps expanding more and more.  Recently I have gotten decently into drones..... have been spending a lot of hours there.  But it's been a fun project.

I am lucky that my mining area stays pretty well.  At this point no babysitting it's pretty well fined tuned.   Only ones that require messing with is lotto mining.  I still need to take a picture.  I got rid of my U3's and some compacs.  But kept a few for fun lotto mining.  I just have a hard time remaining excited on small hashing amounts.

Also at bottom left you will want to hit move and move topic to hardware sales.   Hardware forum is not for sell threads.

2) $/BTC will move. Flat logic would say based on supply halving, price will double over x time, with difficulty increasing and new-gen hardware it's impossible to say for sure.

...

I don't see that happening - the "supply" will not "halve", the only thing which will halve is "the rate of increase of supply" which is a quite different thing.

I have begun to hat this theory.  So many say this in beginners forum.  Luckily in other forums it is far less currently.

The having does not guarantee a problem from supply and create a big jump.  It could... .but it could not.  The thing is pretty much everyone using it including investors know about having.  So likely we will see raises (if they come) before having.

The theory we produce 1/2 so supply will go crazy... i could be wrong I just don't see it.
Everyone could dump after halving if it reaches a certain price, I am pretty sure it will happen. But then again there could be new players, who knows.

If "everyone" dumps there is not enough new players to take over though.  For even current pricing we cannot lose our base users.  If we lose current holders.... future does not look good.

So at having we really need people to believe in long term upward trend.   We don't want anyone dumping right after.  But either way I don't see having as a big day I think knowing about it before we see results of it before it.

Is it true in order to use circle you need to add a Paypal Debit card? I read an article regarding buying Bitcoin with Paypal. Undecided

Paypal and bitcoin do not mix.  NEVER sell your coins for paypal.  Paypal is just to hard to predict and sides with buyer a lot.  If your talking about selling with paypal.. many have gotten burned.

I still think best "online" look at 2nd factor options of the sites.   I would use security in part to pick your hot wallet site.  Just a good way to look about it.
1846  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cloud Mining - Please help a newbie on: February 28, 2016, 06:50:01 PM
Best piece of advice I can give any noob miner thinking about investing in cloud mining operation(s): DON'T!!

Anyone who is thinking about mining right now should do some pretty serious ROI beforehand.  My least favorite thing about cloud mining is you don't own in the gear in most, this is why I have always mostly been invested into hardware.

But hardware or cloud mining is getting harder.  Look at difficulty changes: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty .  This week is not looking bad but add up changes from Jan 26 - Feb 19 and it's going to scare most any miner.
1847  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] TREZOR Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: February 28, 2016, 06:46:20 PM
Thanks for the great write up.  Right now I am using a Ledger nano, but have been interested in getting a Trezor.  I especially appreciate the part where you showed it working with an Android phone.  That is the way I would primarily use it if I get one.

Thanks for post glad that you found it useful.  Both Ledger Nano and Trezor I love that they can be used as a mobile wallet with a android device.  I see that as a huge feature, and if bitcoin expands possibly a necessary one one day.

Either one gives so much better security then standard hot wallet on phone.  I hope all that use mobile wallets use one of these some day.
1848  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Why is my u3 only pushing about 47Gh/s on: February 28, 2016, 06:38:12 PM
I took it apart, cleaned it deep, put it back together, gave it an external fan for extra cooling, but im only pushing 47, it would start out with 60, then just drop, why is it doing this?

Most don't hit the 60 number I think you will see if you read through thread.  You can change your commands and should be able to get in 50's.   But I don't think I ever got 60 out of my 3 I had, then again I did not push hard on them to do it.

But I think 50's is more in line for most as far as what they realistically will get.
1849  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: B-Eleven sha-256 ASIC miner on: February 28, 2016, 06:34:59 PM

So likely they have extremely cheap electricity which would make sense.  And once they get a better batch of chips I suspect likely it's a easy switch to put new chips in.

It may of course not be their electricity cost, but the Hash Investment carries a charge of 0.5 CNY/KWh which is about 8 Cents. So far from Cheap?

Rich

Same thing with Hashnest. They profit by obtaining cheap power then charging customers over 8 cents per kWh.

I agree they charge customer far above what they actually pay I think.  I am willing to bet they pay a few cent's..... and charge customer that 8 cent's.  Makes for extra profit for them.

There is no way hashnest pay's 8 cents even after cooling and everything.  They are well below it (I suspect at least in China mines).

Yeah no doubt about it, that's where their money really comes from.

If they would charge us what they get I suspect we would have a lot better chance of profit.   Cloud mining at maybe 2 cents or so of cost.... now that sounds like a pretty attractive investment to me.

But I don't see them ever sharing cheap electricity sadly.  They will keep that internal, and in some places I really don't think 1-2 cents is crazy with usage they provide.  I think they have some pretty amazing deals (this is all speculation).

1851  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is it worth to continue this mining operation ? [Video included] [Europeans] on: February 28, 2016, 06:28:39 PM
After doing a lot of research, visiting Dutch Bitcoin conventions (monthly) and questioning everyone with experience in mining/bitcoin, I was sure I could do it. The country I am originally from, has subsidised electricity. To make this easy for you to understand, the price is around 2 cent per KwH, as long as you don’t use more than 3000 KwH PER MONTH.

Depending on size of your house, and how many are there.  3000 KwH might not be as much as you are thinking.  I don't think of it as a huge amount.  Your right for the first tier you have good electricity rates.

What are other tiers and prices?  Also how many KwH do you normally use a month right now before adding a miner?

This is the last pick.  I am letting it in only because I was sleeping and you missed by 1 hour.

I know that the site goes down sometimes and since I am not sure if it was up or down at the time. I am letting this pick in.

we are closed.  good luck to all that have made a pick.

1853  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining and the Halving on: February 28, 2016, 06:22:41 PM
Well, smaller miner will exit the game, and hash power will concentrate on fewer miners.
On the bright side, the price per coin probably will rise, otherwise, even fewer miner will be.

I think it's hobby miner and home miner will have a hard time if it continues.  Both are not big enough to get gear discounts when buying.   But it will all come down to electricity.

Those small miners with included electricity/free.. will continue to make money.  So all depends on that electricity.

Ya it is true that who are running mining on free electricity or on heavy investment can survive but it is also true that this halving will decrease the production of coin by 50% so their will be a big challenge for miners as i think price wont rose 50% up but production will surely come down to 50%. only the potential miners will survive who have before itself made changes according to the halving problems.

Yea many like me are not that lucky.   But free miners are in a GREAT time ahead.  Last gen gear keeps getting cheaper S5, SP20, Avalon 4.1, etc.  They still are great gear just to expensive to run on normal electricity.

So I see a flood of these last gen, but still great miners being sold cheap.  So free/super cheap actually have a good time ahead of them (I think at least).

Hi everyone, There's a problem with the current Blockchain API, it seem we will need a new hosting services to apply with them or
change to Blocktrail.

when you switch will the data from week missed, and this current week be saved?  And payments still going out for them?
1855  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introducing people to BitCoin via business cards on: February 28, 2016, 02:57:12 AM
Thanks everybody for your input!

I would hasten to add that I was referring to wallet<->wallet transactions, not via a third party, those are of course free.

I wouldn't advocate a third party anyway, that would look commercial and, above all, compromise security, which is very important.

I didn't want a QR code because it would confuse the recipient, this person is of an older generation.

But, it was fine for what I wanted and if anybody else needed to do something then they too could work from this template and add the suggestions you've all contributed.

Thanks!

I'm not sure I agree with all of this.  If someone is confused by a QR code... I don't see them likely to adapt Bitcoin.  It just is a hard one to push adoption if you think something small like QR code is to much for the user.

I think you kinda have a hard battle.  At first I thought you were doing this as a card for you and a business.  But bitcoin as a whole... fitting benefits and attracting someone to truly use it is going to be hard to do by passing out a small business card.  I see very low adoption via this card passed out.
1856  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Best online Bitcoin wallet ? on: February 28, 2016, 02:53:54 AM
the best answer is blockchain.info for bitcoin online wallet which don't ask your any personal id,your lot of person detail.
for creating your wallet there just you have to put your name, username, password.then you are done.

And I HIGHLY suggest using a 2nd factor authentication method to.  It really can save your account.  I was thinking of people who really do enjoy the anomyous part on blockchain.info still can use something such as Yubikey.

With Yubikey it is a physical 2nd factor authentication.  And you don't have to use SMS or other programs that might be able to trace back to you.  So Yubikey might have some possible bonus's for those who seem to be so dead set on not letting site know who user is and still get 2 factor.
1857  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Is faucet profitable ? on: February 28, 2016, 02:50:36 AM

If...if...if...a French sayinf...with ifs you can put Paris in a bottle...

All has a cost...and if (lol) it were to easy ...every one had a faucet and we would have more faucets than users...
it is what i explained about sign campaign...if (lol) tomorrow 1000 or 10000 forum members wouls submit at sign campaign...it would be the end for many sign campaigners to earn much.

Sig payouts are already decreasing and it wont last long at high prices, because when a few more million bitcoin users join us, then it will be over.

Signature campaigns will be around.  If you read meta they plan to have signatures on new forum... whenever it get's done.  I think sig campaigns will always win over faucet.  I would be posting sig or no sig.  I was hero before I ever did sig campaign.  But It's paid off more then faucets.

The problem is faucet pay.   Is there a way to make faucet pay worth it for the "normal person"?  I don't think so.  I just don't see pay increasing on faucets to a level it's not in the cent's for hours.  And likely faucets will decrease over time to, history has shown this.

1859  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: February 28, 2016, 02:38:11 AM
Since I acquired my Avalon6 used and without a Raspberry Pi, I have been fiddling around a bit with getting all setup. I have found out a few things that I thought others might find of value, since I haven't seen them mentioned elsewhere.

1) The various Raspberry Pi firmware images I expect use the original OpenWRT setup in terms of networking. This means that they have a static IP address and won't try and use DHCP to get an address. This makes some sense if it was actually a router, but it's not. The one image I looked into had a static IP address of 192.168.0.100. If you use the image that Notlist3d created, then it has DHCP already set.

2) The base image from ehash.com is actually quite small. It would almost certainly fit on a 1 Gbyte card, if that's what you happen to have. No need for an 8GB card.

3) As downloaded, the initial login is root with NO PASSWORD. Once you are in, you can add a password to root, and also enable ssh.

4) It appears that OpenWRT doesn't use the usual Linux shutdown -h command to shut down the raspberry Pi cleanly. Instead it appears you use "poweroff" from the command line (i.e. ssh in), and wait about 10 seconds. I am always nervous about just yanking the power on a running Pi, to avoid SD card corruption. Yes, it's inconvenient to have to ssh in, but it sure avoids the anguish of  corrupted SD card.

The ehash website has some documents that aren't specifically for the Avalon6, but are for an earlier generation of the Avalon seies, The basic items mentioned above are in there I think. They haven't done much to change their basic strategy for OpenWRT setup since earlier generations. You can also observe the kano.is pool address in the download image. It's unfortunate they don't also switch to DHCP as well.

I wish I could take credit for image, but it's actually image for BlockC RPI kit's.  I backed it up and shared it as I thought others would find it useful.  The DHCP makes it easy on any network to find it log in, then set a static IP that works for you.

But all thanks goes to BlockC on the image I posted.
