I do not usually listen to some news pertaining company lay offs, but those numbers are not a joke even though I had read previously that back in 2014, Microsoft even laid off 18k employees. I guess it was part of cutting losses anyways. If Twitter saved $500M for that then I wonder how much worth more was lost back when Musk has not yet bought Twitter.

From how Twitter is starting to change now starting from the blue tick plan, I wonder if people would still continue to use it since I recall trends in my news feed that people are now quitting Twitter due to the recent events.

The company layoffs are bad if you consider how many current employees would lose their jobs and have to find other ways to look for work, but I think they were just fired that way. They were paid in 2 months' worth of instalments, which alone demonstrates how fortunate they were to work for Twitter. If nothing was paid, he owns his company, and don't think there were conditions attached to the transfer of the company to the new manager.

The $500 million for workers is just too much for a new firm that has debts and liabilities to clear. Additionally, some of the employees were performing remote work that might have been done within the company, there is more to all the sack talk than people are discussing.

The majority of new investors come on board true centralized exchange and because they are new to the system, it is always very hard to convince them that CEX is not the best place to keep their assets, some of them don't really trade that much, they buy whatever they want to buy and keep it there instead of sending it to their own personal wallets, maybe they are too lazy to watch over their own investments their self. I'm not sure why would anyone will buy bitcoin and keep it on an exchange, for what exactly!

Sometimes its hard to convince newbies to avoid such things because majority of newbies has been introduce on new tokens which they bought on pre-sale and there's nothing they can do with it since mostly those tokens is listed on low tier exchange which is very risky to trade on. Also some of them got hype and stay because they think about good thing to do trades because they see a lot of option to choose if they want to trade that's why its good to see some fair warning like this since soon they realized for their selves that its not good to put 100% on a platform where you didn't hold your own keys.

A lazy newbie will continue to be a lazy one, and in the world of cryptocurrency, being a lethargic person usually means losing money. Since it's so challenging for new pre-sale projects to get listed in an A-tier exchange, they usually settle for the least expensive options, that been said. However, I believe that most of the layer 1 blockchains on which these projects were built have decentralized exchanges where users can buy and sell coins without having to leave them on centralized exchanges.

I can't speak for everyone, but I can say that despite the newbie excuses, some of them have learned to keep their coins in personal wallets as a result of what we have all experienced with CEX. I can also say that despite all the hacks and incidents, there are some people who have been in this space for more than half a decade that have yet to learn to be their own custody, they would rather watch their investments on CEX on high risk.

Sometimes, learn to keep shut and face your job instead of spamming threads and running your mouth over what is not your concern.
1844  Economy / Economics / Re: Twitter Crypto head and staff resigns on: November 30, 2022, 07:51:37 PM
Twitter staff strength has been reduced by around 90% and the platform seems to be running without any issue. And I don't know why there is so much outcry. Meta also fired tens of thousands of its employees recently. And there are indications that Google may fire up to 10,000 of its employees. Tech companies seems to have realized their mistake. They increased the headcount without any limits, hoping that such a large workforce will be useful if the scope expands in the future. The scope expansion never happened and they are now being forced to reduce their staff strength.

There is more to the Twitter situation that most people are unaware of. It appears that during the course of the Twitter deal, Elon did not have enough funds to proceed with the deal, so he had to make some financial assistance to continue the deal, and now, according to some sources, they currently have about $13 billion in liabilities to make with a yearly return of $1 billion. I don't get why people are up in arms over what he bought with his money and other people's money. Some sources also claim that roughly 3,000 employees were fired since it allowed Twitter to save about $500 million per year, if this estimate is right, Elon is good to go.

I hope Twitter takes time to restructure in a way that suits other corporations, their current conflict with Apple, in my opinion, is unnecessary. I mean, Apple is a big company, and Elon is also big, but you can't always win. I can't imagine there isn't a Twitter app for iPhone on the App Store, he needs to liaise with them for peace and sweet revenues.
1845  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are some government scared of Bitcoin? on: November 30, 2022, 06:56:00 PM

Making Bitcoin a legal tender means when a person goes to purchase a commodity, instead of paying with dollar or whatever currency is being used, they pay with BTC.

Given the unstable nature of cryptocurrencies, and the untraceable nature, would you suggest it wise for countries to adopt Bitcoin as a legal tender?

Recently, El Salvador and Central African Republic announced that they have adopted Bitcoin as a legal tender.

Bitcoin is a digital asset that the world has never seen before, it is built the way it is for the people and people love it that way, despite the ups and downs, the number of people who have an interest in bitcoin keeps growing, if people want it, they should allow it, after all, it is not forced on anyone, making it a legal tender gives the holder hope that it is recognized and the reason to doubt and fear it would be eliminated.

Within you and from the actions of the government you have seen, you will agree with me that it is all about power and control. The government hate anything they cannot control within their cycle that is why instead of accepting it as a legal tender, they rather regulate it and eat junk of revenue from it since they know it is a global currency they cannot control and they found ways to swallow revenues they are used to, they regulate it and claim they are friendly with Bitcoin
The government is accustomed to fiat, but there are some additional characteristics that bitcoin has that money does not. For instance, the dollar is a global currency that is widely accepted in most countries due to its stability durability, and advantages over local currencies, bitcoin, on the other hand, is far superior to fiat because it is censorship resistance, peer 2 peer, divisible in bits, limited in supply, decentralized, and no middle man, this is what the government don't want and hence the reason for legal tender rejections.
1846  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will Sam Bankman-Fried go to jail? on: November 30, 2022, 03:32:41 PM
My BTC savings have lost much value this month, and I know why. We all know. It's the FTX's debacle. Some say it's doomsday for cryptos, but it isn't. There's nothing wrong with BTC. What's wrong is that one crook has stolen honest people's money to make shady investments.

There's only one solution to restore people's confidence. Put the bad guy in jail for a long, long time.

Will Sam be allowed to go to jail? Most likely not in my opinion because the democrats he has donated wouldn't want to see there and wiped along with his mistake. apart from that one reason, he may go back to jail but I don't think it will be in the Bahamas neither nor the US because after following some of the updates surrounding him, I was made to understand that he will reimburse all FTX. US users 100% of their balance and his extradition is unlikely and also during the cost of FTX collapse, he allowed some Bahamas investors to withdraw their investments because he doesn't want people to surround his compound, may be other countries may threaten him if they don’t get their funds from FTX international.

This year has been full of dramas and has affected bitcoin growth but rest assured, it will bounce back because the worst has happened in the past and we saw a new ATH of bitcoin price.
1847  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Will there ever be any safe centralised exchange ? on: November 30, 2022, 02:29:56 PM
I was wondering if there could still be any safe centralised exchange in the blockchain industry. Of lately lots have been unveiling itself and centralisedexchanges are at the end of it all.  Does it mean that these centralised exchanges that are in existence lacks the capability to safeguard assets and funds after attracting investors and traders to their platforms for engagement and activities?
How do you explain these things to the people whom have entrusted their funds and assets to you for safe keeping hoping that what they gave to you is under safe care only to wake up to a sad news of their assets being stolen by hackers. How do you explain all these.

At first identifying the problem is a basic course for rendering solutions. If these problems are not identified immediately by the exchanges for quick remedy then who's to be blamed for it. Do they really do constant check on their service to know their lapses, if they do, do they identify it immediately with utmost attention? Do they do a constant check and evaluation on their staff and  mechanisms.

With all these said, what are your opinions on this subject matter as I feel this needs to be looked into for possible measures to be taken for  so as to further prevent or minimise the rate at which exchanges get hacked or being careless with investors and traders funds.

This is not the first time centralized exchanges have been a threat to the growth of bitcoin but so many people forgot Mt.Gox very quickly than it occur or perhaps new corners haven't been victim but people who have been there over past 8 years knows how it feel to leave coin on an exchange and becomes unable to have access to them, now that FTX has taught everyone a big lessons, it will be a history that we will all find hard to forget, I wasn't affect but the mistakes all made us to have unrelaise loss(if you have not sold).

Recently, I have seen so many exchanges all making a merklle tree by publishing their proof of reserves but the solutions remain the same, not your keys, not your coins. What is a proof of reserve without liabilities, what are the coins that belong to users and the ones they owed and their personal investments, buy whatever you want to buy if you must use centralise exchange to buy bitcoin but don't live your coin on any exchange. it is as simple as that.
1848  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bringing it back to your ears: Not your keys, not your coins on: November 30, 2022, 08:40:16 AM
Exchanges like Binance are helping the adoption of bitcoin. That is why I don't criticise them too much. If you remove exchanges and be fair in your judgement you will understand that things of bitcoin is not easy for everyone to handle. Especially people that are stressing everyday looking for how to make food for the family.
This people look for people to trust for their coins because their memories can fail them anytime.
No matter what we preach exchanges will be modifying the way they operate and if care is not taken, they will centralize many aspect of bitcoin.
We can only teach but we won't force people how to use their money.

I don't want to go into too much detail about exchanges because this topic is about how beginners should focus on keeping funds and recovery phrases safe, but if most users had followed this little warning, most of the users who got bitten by the FTX exit wouldn't be in the mess they are today, considering they were the second exchange by volume after Binance. Exchanges are important for cryptocurrency, but trust me when I say that his little cautions are as significant.

2. Don’t paste your passphrase on any exchange, I know very soon other exchanges will follow the same pattern which will result in the stealing of funds.
You probably mean seed phrase, not passphrase.
Seed phrase (also called recovery phrase or mnemonic seed) is different from passphrase. Seed phrase is a series of words, usually 12 or 24 words. Passphrase is the additional word(s) or characters which is added to the seed phrase for more security.

That was typo. I’m very much familiar with passphrase and is different from seed phrase. It has been modified.
1850  Other / Beginners & Help / Bringing it back to your ears: Not your keys, not your coins on: November 29, 2022, 11:29:15 AM
I'm reminding everyone here of the frequent collapse of centralized exchanges, which has resulted in many assets and wallets being drained and dried for trusting their money on centralized exchanges despite many warnings of not your keys, not your coins. I have a message for everyone, and I hope they take it seriously, especially those who have yet to withdraw their coins from centralized exchanges or custodial services.

The new designs of exchanges share a similar pattern and there is something I have noticed, Defi wallet integrated into Binance exchange wallets as a sub wallet and very soon, other exchanges will imitate the same style just to acquire more liquidity from users or traders.

Binance has integrated a Defi sub-wallet into their exchange, the option requires you to add a recovery phrase from your wallet to interact with its own BSC blockchain, we all know how important seed phrases or recovery phrases are meant to be with you, no third party. It should be with you alone because that way, no one can get to your coins, they want you to keep your recovery phrase on their exchange please don't do that, care less of their policy whether they save it or not, centralized exchanges are element of the same company that cannot be trusted. Your seed phrase or recovery phrase is intended for you and only you.

Some of the things you need to know:
1. Not your keys, it’s not your coins.
2. Don’t paste your recovery phrase on any exchange, I know very soon other exchanges will follow the same pattern which will result in the stealing of funds.
3. Do not rely on centralized exchanges/ leave your coins on centralized exchanges.
4. Don’t share your private keys with people
5. Back up your recovery phrase and make sure they are properly secured and safe from threats and thieves.
1851  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2022 Group Stage Highlights on: November 28, 2022, 09:12:47 PM

From the looks of things, Portugal will be lucky in the outcome against Uruguay, as Ronaldo just scored a goal with a great assist from Fernandes, and Portugal currently leads the field statistically. So far, the match has lasted 70 minutes, and I believe the score will be 2-0 because the ball distribution among Uruguay players is unsatisfactory.

Actually Ronaldo didn't score that goal but I also thought that he touched the ball with his head there. It was a really close call as it seems. Even they wrote the goal to Ronaldo first but they changed it to Fernandes later on. It was a really nice goal anyway. Ronaldo was so near getting rid of the "Penaldo" nickname in the World Cup but he missed it by inches.  Grin  I don't call him like that of course because he is one of the legends playing football actively still.

Uruguay have been able to balance the game a little more in this half but things are still not going well for them. If this match ends up with a loss for them then I don't think they can reach next stage. Because Ghana have been playing more passionately so far. I don't think Uruguay can beat them.

Then why would players pretend? huh  Cheesy Ronaldo ran and celebrated the goal as if he had his head on that ball making me believe he was the one that actually scored the goal, I doubted it but it was shown that Ronaldo scored the goal not until I saw your quote and I was shocked, seems like today belong to Bruno Fernandez for having 2 goals, sadly today Penalty wasn't giving to penaldo but Fernandez may be due to the last controversy against Ghana. I risked it and paid to pick over 1.5, my prediction went as predicted.

Portugal has become the third team to accumulate 6 points, and they will undoubtedly qualify for the next round. I believe all first teams in all groups should be able to sleep comfortably until their next round 3 match.
1852  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Zero KYC tolerance gambling platforms on: November 28, 2022, 08:55:34 PM
KYC has become a major part of our life that we can not deviate from, even to operate fairly with cryptocurrency one still need to undergo some form of KYC which makes it impossible to do without.
But then a lot of other privacy-minded users will rather play on only none KYC casinos but we have only a few of such 100% KYC-free casinos since regulations are climbing down on them.

KYC was never part of our life, it was implemented and forced on financial institutions to weed out laundering money but we all know that for every merit, there are one or two demerits, however, in the case of KYC, the Demerits outweighed the merits and if you start from the beginning of this thread, that is what most users has been discussing. We can do without KYC, it shouldn't be forced on people who don't want to, if the regulators fear that there will be some sort of criminalities in crypto casinos, it happens everywhere even with the banks.

KYC shouldn't be compulsory or a prerequisite to playing in Casino, they could at most make some limit to funds and may make it mandatory for players who wants to incase a player deposits money they suspected, if they lift these things, it will not only increase players, it increases revenues for casinos.
1853  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2022 Group Stage Highlights on: November 28, 2022, 08:28:05 PM
In the second game today we again had a lot of emotions and a lot of goals. In the end, Ghana won 3-2 against South Korea, but the determination of the Asian team in the second half deserves a lot of credit. However, this is little consolation for the Koreans, who already have minimal chances of promotion. Portugal can qualify from this group if they beat Uruguay in today's match. I hope it will be an interesting game as well.

Ghana deserved a second chance after their result in Portugal, they tried their hardest but it was too late to equalize the last goal scored by Portugal and I love the way they converged that energy on Korea Republic though Korea really retaliated after the second half but Kudus was prepared not to let go of every chance ghana had and finished with 3-2 just the same manner Portugal did them in round 1

1854  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Qatar bribed 8 players from Ecuador for the opening match on: November 28, 2022, 08:06:05 PM
It's one of those hot news, and you can find in almost all the Newspapers.

It looks like Qatar bribed eight Ecuadorian players for $7.4 millions to lose the wold cup opener. And this isn't weird to me, i mean if they already pay a shit ton of money to have the world cup in their country then we can expect from this world cup to be the most corrupt event in the Soccer history.

Some sources:
https://sportsbrief.com/football/28069-reports-qatar-bribed-ecuadorian-players-74-million-lose-opener/
https://www.marca.com/en/world-cup/2022/11/18/6376cfc7ca4741cc208b4573.html

Right now odds pays x3.26 if Qatar win, i know is a risky bet but i'm almost sure they will win. Will you place bets on this game after knowing about the bribe?

Politics and Sport are two different things and that is what FIFA has always kick against, no racism, no religion and no favouritism but it seems the more they try to avoid this things, the more they occur which makes me to remember the speech made by Morgan Freeman in the World Cup ground opening. he asked the boy that "what bring us together today here is bigger than what divide us and how long could we make it last?'' and the Qatar boy recite some quran a reference that it is through respect and tolerance, this message was made to counter this kind of rumours and hate among us.

Football has unite us all irrespective of our religion, respect other people religions and culture, we can't attack them because of their culture and looking at their performance so far, they will  not be making it out in the group stage, just free Qatar and lets enjoy football for just this 1 month.  Undecided

1855  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA 2022 world cup on: November 28, 2022, 07:46:12 PM
I thought today's match would result in a goalless draw, when Vinicius' goal was ruled offside.  But the entire outcome of the game went in the opposite direction when Cashomiro's goal in the 83rd minute.  After the victory in today's match Brazil confirmed the 16 and as the 2nd team after France confirmed the 16.

If Offside were eliminated from football, every team would always have a chance to score. I was upset when Vinicous's goal was quashed, and I thought the game would end in a draw but, Casemiro scored his first Fifa goal of 2022, and that gave them automatic qualification in the next stage. Even if they lose their round 3 match, they will still progress. So far, they are the second team to accumulate 6 points after France, which makes me believe that France and Brazil will most likely face each other in the grand finals.

Switzerland played fairly I must confess but no hope is lost yet if they Win Serbia in the next match but we all know that Serbia would be a difficult team to eliminate in this tournament, Cameroon is also good but we all would agree that Brazil will finish them but even if they don't, Brazil has nothing to lose right now.
1856  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Zero KYC tolerance gambling platforms on: November 27, 2022, 02:29:54 PM
Maybe those who don't want to do KYC should strictly limit their use of money for gambling and not do anything that would raise the suspicions of the casino against them.
Never gamble with a lot of money if you are not prepared for the risk behind it.
And try to play at a reputable casino so that if you have to do KYC, your data will be safe with them.
And you also have to be prepared to do KYC in the future because this is probably what all casinos will do if the regulators force them to do it for all their users.

You brought to mind a tweet I saw today about phone numbers being sold on the dark web, which stresses the importance of personal documents and information. The majority of those phone numbers are associated with various people all over the world, so I couldn't help but wonder what bad actors could do with them.

Back to documents and KYC in casinos: a reputable casino would take all reasonable precautions to protect player data and funds, but let's be honest with ourselves: if you complete KYC at any casino and they decide to sell your information at some point, you will never know and you won't suspect them because you are accustomed to disclosing personal information to the public, we should learn to normalized No KYC.

Japan surprised the world last week Wednesday when they trashed Germany 1-2, and I must say that Germany is a disappointment in this tormented if they don't brace up. Their last display was off, and I have changed my mind about them as my priority to win the world cup.

Don't underestimate Germany, they are good without a doubt, but it appears that they are more politically motivated than what brings them to the field, they believe Japan is just an ordinary team that they can easily defeat. However, Japan created chances and took advantage of them when Doan was substituted, giving them an equal goal until Asano gave them more hope, which weakens Germany, nevertheless, hopes are not lost. Hopefully, they win Spain.

Quote
But unfortunately, your prediction did not work for Japan today, football is like that though Coats Rica has not been a team to underrate. Japan lost the match despite playing well, however, their 3 points are still a good thing for them in their group, unlike Germany.

Japan was attacking, they converted all of their efforts in the offensive battle and failed to guard it at home, allowing Costa Rica to score in the last minutes, making it tough to equalize, if Costa Rica conceded 7 goals from Spain, it should have been a very simple match. What Germany plays today will affect the fate of all teams in Group E.

I think I am one of the unluckiest gambler/bettor out here, today is one of my worst days again and I think I should quit betting.

I went all in on Argentina thinking their match against Saudi Arabia would be an easy win for them, and the fact that the odds were so far away against Saudi Arabia winning while it was in huge favor of Argentina caused me to be so sure that Argentina was going to win the match, and then, I went all in, hoping to make some big wins just like yesterday, but now, everything is gone, in just a twinkle of an eye...
Argentina is a big disappointment, It's still hard to believe, I quit betting until I am able to forget this experience entirely.

You must have bet/staked a lot of money for you to be this upset and angry, but that is the drawback of gambling. I must admit, I was shocked by the result of Argentina vs. Saudi Arabia. Many bettors had high hopes and faith that Argentina would finish that game admirably despite the short odds, but the bookmakers said not today. However, it doesn't change my stand for Argentina, Keep trying as you never know the day of celebration, but bet responsibly.
1859  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: November 27, 2022, 11:13:29 AM
However, Bayern Munich has dropped points in several matches. However, Bayern Munich is the strongest when compared to the teams in the Bundesliga. Bundesliga teams are quite weak compared to Bayern Munich. Union Berlin had quite the season. But now they are 7 points behind Munich. There is no doubt that Bayern Munich will win the Bundesliga title this season just like the previous seasons. But I am looking forward to seeing how Munich performs against PSG in the upcoming Champions League match.

Bundesliga has already played 15 of its scheduled matches unlike the English Premier League, where there are still a few unfinished matches and the fact that Bayern Munich has reclaimed the first position makes it appear like nothing can unsettle them. Since Mane didn't travel to the world cup, he will have more time to recuperate than other important players who are now on the field. The champions league shouldn't be a problem for them, in my opinion.

I don't know why big clubs always want to buy more players. They will be focusing on Champions League and be buying so many players and forgetting that there is no club in Bundesliga that can give them big fights.
Bayern Munich coach should find a way to stablize his team and that team will be so great. They have too many goal scorers in the person of Mane, Sane, Gnabry, this African Moting, Coleman etc. These army is able to bring any team down if well utilized.

Sometimes, it doesn't matter how huge the club is, it might be that they are missing a specific player that could translate their enthusiasm at the moment. If a team is dependent on a single striker and that player suffers an injury, the team has no choice but to add another player during the open transfer period.
1860  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: gambling winner identity on: November 26, 2022, 05:19:19 PM
This isn't fair to the man's family. I really don't know the financial background if the man's family before the winning but $30 million is a whole lot of money not to make someone lazy and if thinking your family will be lazy because of the money then that isn't reasonable enough.
I would have accepted an excuse that the money might make his family go wide not lazy because you don't expect a family who might not have had a good financial record before now and maybe struggling to make ends before the win to still work extremely hard after winning such amount of money.
$30 million when converted to my local currency is a whole lot of money and also a life and destiny changing amount of money and certainly I wouldn't have to see my family having to work so hard after such a huge winning.

Do you know what I hate about people and money that s not theirs? Entitlement! Don't feel entitled to people's money, if they win an amount and they give you a share, they did it for some reason, don't feel you have a part in people's life because you are with them as long as you didn't contribute ideas or some effort when they had nothing or in their struggling stage and even if you were there, if they don't give you a share, you have no right to feel entitled because you have no legal documents to supports your claim.

I believe everyone should learn to achieve wealth regardless of anybody's place in the family. It was his decision to remove the family from the calculations, either to protect them or to ensure they wouldn't feel they would want to quit their previous existence after he won a jackpot.
