1841  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [EMUNIE] Open Beta One - Information & Schedule on: February 02, 2014, 11:26:11 AM
"I have a few questions"

And so it begins thus proving my point. ;-)  This thread was initiated by Dan with the "intent" of providing an answer to those wondering what the status was with regard to emunie.  If I go down the path of answering your "new topic" question then I would only be further proving my point.

This is not meant to side-step your questions, but more a sincere request that you start a "new topic" for your queries as it would ensure we don't pollute the intended goals for this thread.  Moreover, I would have no qualms debating your questions rationally on that "new" thread as I have many reasoned and cogent counterpoints to your assertions, but this thread is not the place for them.

Please let me know when you have started that thread so that I can contribute to the discussion.

ok good points Peachy, I will start an emunie questions thread

[QQQ] emunie questions thread.

And how do we manage questions, testing, bug reports etc etc with no community forum or collective organization?

do it here, or on a sub reddit as a stop gap

its fine! in fact better than that, eg nxt did a complete code review and launch that is over a thousand pages long, doge as well handled a massive view rate easily, there there is the goldcolapsing up thread, some million/200K views or something

or put up a google docs excel or something to aggregate issues if you so chose.

This will be far more robust than probably any other forum, and the migrate later.

make up a emunieproplems@gmail if needs be.

even a twitter feed for bugs could work

All of your recommendations are 'maybe' viable options, but only IF they had been the communication medium from the beginning.  However, switching to them now would invite further confusion among the base of existing users, not to mention the utter chaos and confusion this would present to those with whom we are truly trying to attract:  the average joe (ie. the less than 1% of the world not already part of us crypto-nuts.)

In addition, without a forum where we can express the ideology in a clear and structured manner there would be limited methods at our disposal to ensure no misinformation was presented to the user.  This confusion among new users would only serve to limit wider adoption.  Moreover (and not to denigrate this forum and it's goals), but to have an emunie thread within "bitcoin"-talk would then imply that we are effectively no different from all of the exsting and newly created "bitcoin"-like solutions.  This is absolutely not the message we want to portray.  Same implication with pretty much every other proposed solution (although I do appreciate your providing them as reference).

In the end, the medium of communication is not primarily about being "robust" (although this is important and is being addressed), but more importantly an ideology of having the utmost respect towards the one truly deflationary currency ALL of us have in limited supply:  Time.

Basically, there are many of us that don't have the 12+ hours a day that are often needed to scan, search, hope and pray we can find the "true" answer to our question on a product we decide to spend our 'time currency' on as would be the case with the proposed alternatives.  In addition, once you go down the path of using these alternative mediums it becomes infinitely more difficult with each passing day to migrate back to a more polished and structured environment.

Not sure about Doge, but even the Nxt 1400+ page thread has recently commented on how challenging it is for them to imagine a way to transition from their "1" hyper-long 1400+ page thread and instead "try to move the conversation back to the structured forum they already have" for Q&A.  Challenging indeed.  Even more challenging for a 'new' user thinking about using Nxt.

Its much like the restaurant example.  You go out to eat one evening and your considering 2 new restaurants that are side by side with each other. One has a huge amount of people already eating (1400+ pages and growing at the rate of 2+ pages per hour) and one where no one seems to be at all (structured forum).  Which one do you choose?  Oh sure, if you had an infinite amount of time (ie. not really hungry) to research each then you "might" choose the less popular one, but the majority will go "where the action is at".

all good points, i think we could transition to a up and running forum while the ob1 is on.

also we look to face unrelenting attacks on a forum, as it now seems to have happened or buggy servers. Having the info here and there, offers redundancy, and will make any such attacks less attractive. Even though here the form may be not as pretty. The NXT thread to months to get to where it is. Emunie will have a forum up and running well before it gets to that point.

Having something is better than nothing at this point. Ensuring we have redundancy against attacks and server failure is paramount.
1843  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SCAM ALERT] ***********EMUNIE - CAUTION ADVISED************* on: February 02, 2014, 08:42:59 AM
seriously...dude, wth??  Huh

what has regular email got to do with eMunie being centralized??  Huh

no no I don't mean "centralised" as in what goes around here  as that, I mean, if you have identified that you need a mail server , and some how that has been taken down, then move to a service that cannot be taken down e.g. google,

If that means some emunie functionality it temporarily lost, then so be it....but I think I misread what you meant,

I may have my wires crossed I thought you were referring to emunie needed a mail server, but I think you meant you wanted your emunie mail server for questions and debug....!

in that case a google mail address is fine e.g. bugforemunie@gmail.com or something.
1844  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SCAM ALERT] ***********EMUNIE - CAUTION ADVISED************* on: February 02, 2014, 08:37:59 AM
I just want to know what happened with Eid, or why people internally from the project now seem to have less faith in it and calling it centralized etc? Any note on this? Its kind of bad when you own employees / ex-employess / supporters / ex-supporter say its a scam

I'm not sure they said it  was a scam, as to centralised, I think some think having a company means centralised, it doesn't. Rather it a result of being public, you probably have to do it.

nooo

I needed dan@emunie.com email....that email server died today along with the webserver.

the client doesnt rely on those at all

So its your server's and not the web hosting server's that are down?

so the dan@emunie.com, how does access to that stop the OB1 release?Huh

there would be about 24hrs work left in OB1 max???

is that right?

Because if people are emailing me and there is no mail serve, then it will not be delivered nor can I pick it up. So even if I can't reply right away, people will get pissed and it will give a bad impression/create FUD ammo.

So email functional was #1 priority at the time

hmm I c, so maybe of OB1 just take this out, or put a declaimer on about that. i think this will be attacked relentlessly until i t can be decentralised anyway, since it seems to have central points of failure.

I misread, dan was referring to his emunie email, not the client system....my fault here
1847  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is your answer to "Bitcoin is a Ponzi Scheme" ? on: February 02, 2014, 06:29:45 AM
Bitcoin is not a Ponzi scheme. (Technically, it's a pump and dump.)

Mt. Gox, with all their withdrawal delays, is probably a Ponzi scheme.

Gox, is likely a fractional reserve exchange, both for FIAT and BTC by now, having said that the higher highs and lower lows, may allow it to survive indefinitely as a kind of weird hybrid alt GOXBTC/GOXUSD
1848  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is your answer to "Bitcoin is a Ponzi Scheme" ? on: February 02, 2014, 06:28:24 AM
[1] it is, now give me you worthless ponzi BTC....yeah I thought not.

[2] It is but much less of a ponzi scheme than central banking/fractional reserve banking and quantitative easing, which is breaking your back by reducing you to wage slaves at the behest of a few rich banisters, and their hangers on.

[3] Its not read the multitude of reason in this thread.

QED.
1849  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to avoid BTC booming too fast? on: February 02, 2014, 06:19:55 AM
The whole world can't start using BTC tomorrow.

What is the solution?

There is no a solution. The scalability issue can't be fixed without a hard fork.

even with a hard for how would it be done, also how well does NXT scale???
1850  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [EMUNIE] Open Beta One - Information & Schedule on: February 02, 2014, 06:14:59 AM
Could we just have ob1 on
a
[1] drop box link,
[2] Mediafire link
[3] Mega link
[4] torrent.
[5]google drive.
[6]github

rather than rely on buggy forum software/hardware (as it turns out) or susceptible to ddos.
otherwise the second launch date will be shot down by the same or similar or copycat ddos attack etc.

That way nothing can stop you, and it free's up 100% of you valuable time to dev OB1 for release.

No, those servers are nothing to do with the client, so we can run without them

But email is pretty crucial as that went down also today, so had to spend time on getting that up again before anything else.

ok so client / servers needed for email at this time.....if I understand correctly.

any other functions, can we go without email?

e.g. its is OB1 so email may not have to function....
1853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SCAM ALERT] ***********EMUNIE - CAUTION ADVISED************* on: February 02, 2014, 03:29:50 AM
No, just valuable time taken up today dealing the server failures.  Meant I wasn't able to work on getting OB1 ready.

are the servers needed to run emunie, hatchers etc, can we go without them???
1854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SCAM ALERT] ***********EMUNIE - CAUTION ADVISED************* on: February 02, 2014, 01:57:11 AM
It will continue to be until OB1 is ready, then we will bring the new servers up then.

OB1 is more important.

???what does this mean I though OB1 was compiled and ready for all to start using?Huh

are the servers for hatchers is that why???
1855  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why do coins and their founders start a foundation for the coin on: February 01, 2014, 10:29:04 PM
PeerCoin has not yet....sort in keeping with its whole outlook, the discussion in the PeerCoin forum is interesting/good. Firstly very collegial, not into flames etc, secondly he foundation has been discussed but so far seen as not in line with PeerCoin, and open source.

Even the originator Sunny King refuses all donations or any fund raising for him. This does not stop you creating a foundation, but they are the opposite of many other coins that go for fundraisers, IPO's etc.
1856  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SCAM ALERT] ***********EMUNIE - CAUTION ADVISED************* on: February 01, 2014, 10:13:26 PM
Could you post a link or thread in Alts here to the dropbox for emunie ob1?, it takes a few second to put it on a drop box link...!

I will when its up, but not in this thread as hopefully it'll be history soon enough.

Could you start a new thread in here with it?

1858  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where are all the Bitcoin millionaires? on: February 01, 2014, 09:30:17 AM
other than the creator i bet there are no btc millionaire miners. Like how many LTC have you sold...hundreds? What if they go to $800/each.

I think that's what has happened to the BTC early guys. They sold them to soon.

That's a great point you have everyone sells when it gets to high and their intial investment was very small and they sold when it got in the big money as soon as possible because they didn't think this was going to happen.

Some people think that crypto is here to stay and will destroy the current banking system. These people HODL.

These people are WRONG. Long as you can lose all your BTC without any protection and there is no protection on your BTC it will never EVER go mainstream.

You steal my cash, you don't send my product or you hack my bank, I get it all back. FDIC also protects me. BTC has none of that. this is just temporary.

thats easily solved, gateways that get good reputations stand to profit more by honest trade, than one off hits. Eg that what exchanges do.
1859  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SCAM ALERT] ***********EMUNIE - CAUTION ADVISED************* on: February 01, 2014, 01:40:44 AM
I am not so stupid after all.

Emunie ltd. Or the total capitulation with the governments and laws, the complete surrender. (ripple all over) centralized as hell with only one dictator CEO Dan Hughes.

Like I said they should ban fusseleer for life. He lied from day one more than a year now to dedicated helpers and beta testers that were by his side day in day out, now he stabbing them a knife in the back by solely listing emunie as a company, no need to say all the consequences that come with that.

Dan Hughes in his eyes everyone and everything that don’t share his opinion is retarded looking down on average people, arrogance itself.
I hope for all them who dedicated one year of their life to test and help developing emunie that Hughes gets what he deserves (karma is a bitch you know).

I just don't see the problem with a company. The source code once released can be forked, if not then perhaps less value.

A company is just an interface and likely required as Dan is public....

Dan gains nothing for himself by having a company rather its a personal cost to him.

I think some understanding of what a company actually is, is needed around here.
1860  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is mining toast? on: January 31, 2014, 04:22:34 AM
yes BTC value via mining in so far as it is inefficient, will be arbitraged out by more energy efficient coins,  normalised for all other properties, hence PeerCoin which takes the best of both worlds minging initially and perhaps a bit later on may confer some advantages of mining, eg distribution and back resilience to Pos if needed. At the other extreme you have NXT.
