1841  Economy / Speculation / Re: Thoughts have changed about 4/15/14 on: April 14, 2014, 03:04:46 PM
Some people say to do the opposite of what everyone else is doing, but it does feel like we're moving past the whole China ban scenario. I'm sure the bears will find something new to spread negativity with soon enough though, they always do.
1842  Economy / Speculation / Re: Negative news about Bitcoin is nowhere to be found, yet the price is falling on: April 13, 2014, 08:22:51 PM
Why is there an attitude that every bitcoin price movement should have something to do with "news"? That is ridiculous.

Exactly. Plus there is bad news on Google too; 'miners facing substantial losses', 'bitcoin bound for guns and gold crowd', 'Bitcoin firms dumped by Australian National Bank', etc.
1843  Economy / Economics / Re: Please help educate a n00b... on: April 13, 2014, 03:13:59 AM
I think a lot of the asics were produced in China as well, so they probably mined a fair bit of coins over there. A lot of speculators seem to think that the Chinese are the biggest players due to their trading volume, and they make trades based on the latest news/rumors that come out of there.
1844  Economy / Economics / Re: STOP BUYING INTO ALT COINS , as you are indirectly hurting Bitcoin on: April 13, 2014, 03:07:26 AM
It's an open-source ecosystem, which means anybody can take bitcoin's code and try to improve on it. Or build another cryptocurrency from the ground up. In the end it's survival of the fittest, with only the strongest coins dominating the market. There's always going to be competition, and btc is still beta software, so don't think that it can't be overtaken.
1845  Economy / Speculation / Re: TO DA MOON... $415 and moving up fast.. on: April 13, 2014, 02:51:59 AM
Just because btc is done crashing, it doesn't mean we're headed to the moon right now. There is a lot of space between the ground and the moon you know Wink
1846  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Overstock.com slowly draining the price? on: April 13, 2014, 02:44:09 AM
Because bitcoin is currently a medium of speculation, not a medium of exchange, the big retailers' participation in the whole bitcoin craze is not healthy at this point in time. Basically, bitcoin is NOT ready to be used in this manner. If and when major retailers like Amazon start taking bitcoins, it will crash the price. It's better that these retailers stay the f**k away from bitcoins, so it can go To Da Moon.

It can also grab the attention of potential newcomers. A lot more people will take btc seriously if they see the retailers start accepting btc payments.
1847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Reggie Middleton's UltraCoin @ NYC CryptoCurrency Convention on: April 11, 2014, 05:28:46 AM
Hi Reggie,

I've been reading up on your ultra-coin project. You mention that it will be able to do a lot of things but don't really go into the details of the mechanics. Like for example you say that ultra-coin can act as an escrow for a trade involving BTC. Let's say one party doesn't hold up their end of the deal, who will determine which party the escrow is released to? I'm just not seeing how all this can be programmed into software without requiring 3rd-party human interaction. Maybe I'm missing something?

You've got me interested in the idea of a decentralized exchange though, so I'll be following your project.
1848  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: April 11, 2014, 02:06:11 AM
In the words of Josh - Soon™

Lol, 2 more weeks Wink
1849  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: April 11, 2014, 01:56:09 AM
Who lifted it from $100 to $1200 in November?  We have more people involved now so it could go to 10K with a little hype.  I wouldn't write it off as impossible.

We need less hype and more practical application of the Bitcoin protocol. BTC would have a market cap of over $125 Billion if it reached a value of $10,000 per coin right now.
1850  Economy / Speculation / Re: Now is the time to enter the market! on: April 11, 2014, 01:39:14 AM
There will not be a better time to buy soon. $380-$320

Thank me in 6 months.

As much as I believe in BTC long term, I don't think this drop is over yet. The dumping wasn't even started on the Chinese exchanges, so there is a good chance we're going to see another significant plunge. These price levels may not last long, but we haven't reached the bottom.
1851  Economy / Speculation / Re: Black Thursday - what did you do? on: April 11, 2014, 01:28:51 AM
I haven't done anything yet. Still debating whether I should stock up on a few BTC or a lot of LTC.
1852  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-04-08] Major French Supermarket Chain to Accept Bitcoin on: April 10, 2014, 02:30:42 PM
Casino is the name of a supermarket chain apparently

But why they are not accepting BTC at their casinos? I thought gambling had more uses for the Bitcoin, as compared to retail shopping. Anyway, I appreciate the group for their stance towards the BTC.

Because they don't own casinos! They own supermarkets and convenience stores Tongue
1853  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Largest Chinese Exchange Ordered Bank Shut Down By Apr 18 on: April 10, 2014, 02:26:56 PM
There is a potential for a substantial flash crash if the Chinese suddenly offload a lot of coins, whether people like it or not. I don't think think China is suddenly going to get out of BTC even if it gets banned, so I guess the negativity will continue until the next major news event.

Thanks for letting me know. I've removed the zoomhash one.
1855  Economy / Speculation / Re: A question to anyone who still doubts Bitcoin: on: April 09, 2014, 10:50:30 PM
Anyone that wants to be Rich has to buy within 1-90 days.

I don't think a person buying only 1BTC is ever going to become rich off of it, whether they buy it now or in 3 months. You'd have to buy a decent amount of coins now to potentially become wealthy from it, and there is a lot of risk as we're still in an experimental stage. The days of putting a few hundred bucks into BTC and becoming rich are over.
1856  Economy / Speculation / Re: China banks are SHUTTING DOWN BITCOIN related accounts (translation) on: April 09, 2014, 10:40:32 PM
A few million of chinese BTC up for sale soon.

How would they sell their BTC if they can't withdraw fiat from the exchanges? Plus I don't think the Chinese have millions of BTC stored in exchanges. They probably don't even have millions of BTC.

If fiat channels are truly to be cut off, then trading must be halted and all parties forced to withdraw prior to the deadline stated

And I would not discount the size of Chinese mining operations Wink

What if most people don't withdraw ahead of time? Could we potentially see another Gox? Were the Chinese mining heavily before the introduction of ASICs? I guess people could still trade BTC locally there even if it's made illegal. And at least some Chinese can travel outside the country to cash their coins no?

If you want to have both of your signatures, try to fit them side by side so that the whole zoomhash sig is visible.

Is my Sig ok then? If so I'll enter this campaign as well.

1859  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predictions for tomorrows price? on: April 09, 2014, 08:18:06 PM
No price change for a long time. Might as well quit everything and sell now if you don't plan to hold 2yrs or more.

What are you talking about? Bitcoin's price is constantly changing. The price will probably rise and crash multiple times before then.
1860  Economy / Speculation / Re: Huobi expand outside of China on: April 09, 2014, 03:35:07 AM
Didn't they make a post earlier stating that "415 events are rumors to create fear"? Now they state "not affected by 415 events". that is contradictory. They are dishonest!

There's so much misinformation and contradictory statements statements being issued recently. Hopefully things will be clearer by the 15th.
