This is some scary crazy stuff...I've never seen a game suspended like this before I don't think

"Buffalo Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin suffered a serious injury during the first quarter of the team's Week 17 Monday Night Football showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hamlin fell to the field after trying to get up from a collision with Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. Medical personnel worked on Hamlin for several minutes. ESPN reported that CPR was administered.

Hamlin was removed by ambulance. The game was temporarily suspended.

Hamlin, 24, is in his second NFL season with the Bills. He played college football at Pitt.

"How do you as a member of the Buffalo Bills or the Cincinnati Bengals continue on ... to play this game?" ESPN play-by-play announcer Joe Buck said during the broadcast".  https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/nfl/bengals/2023/01/03/damar-hamlin-suffers-serious-injury-during-buffalo-cincinnati-game/69771881007/
1842  Economy / Economics / Re: What is your biggest obstacle to achieving financial freedom ? on: January 02, 2023, 01:07:20 AM
One of my biggest obstacles was simply trying to find a job in a city/state that had that sort of equal weight of being a good job but being an affordable place to live.  I finally took a leap of faith and took a job and moved to a city I was a bit unsure of.  I knew my job was potentially to be the best I've ever had, but I was leaving a good job in a big city with other jobs to fall back on if the new job didn't work out.  I couldn't be happier with my new role as well as the city I live in, which isn't a large city that costs a ridiculous amount to live in, so now I've found that happy medium between a good job and an affordable city...so my advice, take risks!
1843  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you have 1 bitcoin? on: January 02, 2023, 01:03:26 AM
One of the first rules of bitcoin that was taught to me by Andreas Antonopoulos is to never tell anyone that you own bitcoin.  I know that I've broken that rule here on bitcointalk before, but I've never divulged in to how much I actually own nor would I ever nor should anyone ever!  It's no one else's business how much bitcoin you own, whether they admit they own 1 or 10, so leave that information to yourself.
1844  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BANKMAN-FRIED PANIC GAMBLES TO REPAY DEBT on: January 02, 2023, 01:00:44 AM
This guy is a complete and utter moron and I can't believe that so many were willing to do business around him let along work in the upper ranks of his company without spilling the beans, which would have been the proper thing to do.  This is coming from the same guy who said reading books is stupid, so the fact that he tried to gamble his way back in to the black, is not shocking what so ever.  This guy better rot in a jail cell for a very long time.
1845  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting Types Newbies Should know About on: January 02, 2023, 12:54:41 AM
I was going to add the Money Line bet but it looks like someone else already did.  This I'd say is a nice solid start for those whom are new to sports gambling and are looking to get in to sports gambling, but I would also add that the most important thing is knowing what you're doing as in knowing the game.  If you're just throwing up random bets, not knowing the game or the players, your liklihood of winning these bets is not very good. So a word of caution when it comes to just throwing up uneducated bets, it's likely to not end up in your favor.
1846  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: January 02, 2023, 12:52:04 AM
Another crazy week of fantasy football.  I was not in any championship games today but did playin a 3rd place and a 5th place game so I paid slight attention to fantasy stuff going on and what a wild week. I feel like I can't remember this many players being hurt or under performing when it comes down to semi-finals and championship week games.

Fantasy aside- It's looking like the Chicago Bears will either have the #2 pick or quite possibly even the #3 pick in this coming NFL draft.  Already having a QB, it's exciting to think of the prospects of what they could either land that high or perhaps trade a few picks back for to load up on some extra picks and a super high end player.  One exciting thing when you're team sucks as bad as the bears do lol.
1847  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: when did you receive your first bitcoin? on: December 31, 2022, 02:35:37 AM
I found bitcoin sometime back in 2013 or 2014.  I first bought bitcoin some time in early 2015, I believe in January. I think that bitcoin was something like $200 when I first bought some.  I studied bitcoin for about a year plus before ever actually buying any.  This is something I really regret.  It's always wise to fully understand something before you invest in it, of course, but I waited way to long to pull the trigger and doing so when it comes to bitcoin.

Surely, we haven't got any thought about Nash's lack of experience as a head coach because we're too focused to the three drama queen that has been making headlines ever since they teamed up, after all, it was just Nash who can't control the superstars in his stable that he was once under his watch. I'm just glad that the Nets management managed to have the correct choice and keeping Durant in-exchange of freeing Nash. Made some sense why KD has been quite after firing Nash.
I still think Steve Nash is a good coach, maybe the Nets is not for him with veterans all over their roster. If given one more chance to lead a young team he will surely learn more on how to keep everything under control and maybe that will also add to his experience on how to manage them.
KD and Kyrie, two stars, veterans in the league, they want a respected coach or someone who will just stay silent if they both want the game to be in their shoulders when it's needed.
No play required, just give them the ball.

Why isn't Steve Nash considered a respected coach ?  I don't really know how he is viewed / perceived by the league overall, but lets say he's not a respected coach, then I'd certainly agree with you that they need to hire someone whom is.  However, hiring a coach who will stay silent and just let the superstars play and do whatever they want, I don't think that is the right way to go about getting this team closer to a championship.  If they don't respect the coach, then that will ruin the entire teams chemistry.
1849  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling For Fun - What Does This Mean To You? on: December 31, 2022, 02:29:35 AM
Well I don't think that anyone gambles and expects to lose their money.  "Gambling for fun" means the same thing to myself as it does for you.  I typically gamble on sports games ( I will play games like roulette and poker, but I prefer to main only do so in person) which gives me a little "action" for the game.  It adds extra excitement and a reason to pay closer attention to a game I might not otherwise care to do so.  But, whatever amount I gamble/risk, I am always going in with the hopes of winning but the expectation that that money is now gone.  I won't be enough that will allow myself to get mad at myself.  That's where I set my limits.
1850  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cashless Gambling, your thought? on: December 31, 2022, 02:26:24 AM
Yeah this is pretty interesting and one thing that I absolutely agree with you on is the fact that this will hurt the governments bottom line of being able to collect tax revenue from gambling proceeds.  I'm sure in some ways it will help solve some problems, obviously using cash is largely anonymous and what not, and can allow illegal use of funds to be used for gambling, but on the other hand I'm with you..fuck the government, this shouldn't be allowed.
1851  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Flipper Zero and NFC wallets- is this an issue? on: December 31, 2022, 02:15:19 AM
I don’t know how it popped up on my radar but it did a few days ago and did the same, had it in my bookmarks to come back to (story of my life lol). I have been keeping an eye out for them on Ebay but $250 is the best deal you can get atm.  However my inquiry was not about using it for bitcoin, it’s about wondering if this hacking tool could potentially pose a threat to any bitcoin wallets out there,  of course mainly NFC wallets. I’ve never used an NFC wallet so I don’t know the procedures and what not.
Now you got me interested to research more information about Flipper zero, and I watched few videos how this device works.
This is replicator device that can record and replay any signal from many devices, and with various scripts it can mess around with Tesla cars, it can open safes, copy credit cards.
So if the question is can this be a danger to some hardware wallets than the answer is YES, if wallets have NFC, WiFi and Bluetooth communication this can be copied and modified with FlipperZero.
It can even serve as infrared device controller, but I am not sure if it can copy data from QR codes, so this remains safe option in my opinion.
I see there is high demand for this devices so it's only matter of time when cheap alternative clone device will appear from China.

What's in Flipper Zero is not really anything more, from what I can tell.
Oh it's much more, with custom scripts you can control and copy almost anything.
Check out videos of people opening Tesla's charging door with FlipperZero:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCkvIpAe_do

Yeah it's a really interesting little device.  I am sure there's some potential to hack in to some very poorly established bitcoin wallets that utilize very poorly established security, but I'm not tech savvy enough to know of any examples.

Yeah this think certainly poses a threat to many other things in our lives, like you said I could see this messing with Tesla cars, safes, credit cards, building security passes etc.  The "Kia Boys" are doing a good (also sad and disgusting) job of showing us just how vulnerable many of our things are, including our cars - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbTrLyqL_nw

Anything NFC is an issue. BUT, so long as there has to be a bit of human interaction both ways there is a VERY TINY BIT of security.
So long as you have to click something on your phone or PC to complete the action then you are a bit more secure then just a tap to pay thing.
BUT, if the card has no 2nd form of verifying what you want to do then there is the potential for fraud.

On that same note, that also extends to dishonest merchants. Do you know that they are using a legit RFID tap to pay or are they doing something dishonest in the background.

Makes you wonder how many credit card skimmers were installed by the operators themselves.....

-Dave

That's exactly what I was thinking from the get go.  The fact that many wallets require you to confirm physically and what not, would make this much more difficult to use as a hacking tool for bitcoins.

I have also always wondered the same..I guarantee a lot of those credit card skimmers are placed on by employees and owners of the shops.

If you don't understand this video is a joke you cant hack teslas with flipper. The tesla cars all share the same remote to open the charging port at the charging station and literally anyone with a tesla and phone can do this. If you park your car to charge it often it will open other charging doors as well. No crimes committed video was shot in a misleading way to encourage tesla to fix this problem.

I'm getting ready to look in to all this, as I'm now even more curious how Teslas tech compares to say Kia's, as a buddy just told me about these scumbags who found the vulnerability with Kia cars and now well known as the "Kia Boys"- https://www.motorbiscuit.com/who-are-the-kia-boys-showing-tiktok-users-how-to-steal-your-car/
1852  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mistakes Successful People Never Make Twice on: December 30, 2022, 12:34:57 AM
The crazy thing is that when you ask people why we study history, many can't give you a great answer.  The study of history is all about making sure that we learn from the past so that we don't make the same mistakes in the future.  That's literally what studying history is all about.

Tony Stark/Iron Man is a good movie to watch about learning from your mistakes.  Each new movie he kept updating his suit and fixing issues that came up in the old suites. He's a genius ( fictional of course) but being a genius you can really learn from their ways and his was all about never making a mistake twice..hence why he was always so successful.

Man this is really cool and I wish that I had a lot more merit so that I could give you some (anyone with some merit, this is the exact type of thread that really deserves it, please consider doing so).

This is the exact type of thing that is going to help bitcoin and to help bitcoins ecosystem grow.  Plus as you said most people don't know what it is or how it works, this gives you a perfect opportunity to be able to educate others.  Bravo well done!

For some reason we all still have a game this week??  Huh

My ESPN league has concluded, finished 8-6, 5th place out of 10. A pretty mediocre season for me this year.

Teams with the two best records, Jerkers and Coiners, play for the most consolation.

Congrats to South Park and Hueristic for some well-deserved championship matchup spots.

Yeah as other have said they allow teams to keep playing so that theres then a final ranking at the end of playoffs/championship game.  Unfortunately I will remain in dead last place since 9th and 10th don't get to play in the playoffs at all.

Yep congrats to the 2 finals spots it's been a fun season!  My season didn't start out how I wanted but that's fantasy football.  On paper your squad looks good and then the season starts and starts to crumble in on you lol.  Good luck to the 2 of you amd may the best te win!

Well there problem for you was having that issue where the draft wasnt starting properly and then your screen didn't update or whatever when the draft actually did start running live.

But yeah, I thought I had a really good squad in this league, which I kinda did, but the lack of a top tier RB and TE really killed me.

It's nice to see my Chicago Bulls actually starting to play a little bit better.  I'm curious what people think about the Bulls and why there's such a big difference between their start last year and this year.  I know that Ball started with the team last year, but when he was out they were still very good, so who's to blame for their slow start to the year, the coach or the players?

Good news is Ball is making some progress.

Well I guess the positive thing is that you learned a valuable lesson. Sure it sucks to have lost that much money, but the biggest thing when you get kicked an knocked down, is to be able to get back up and keep fighting.

I appreciate your post as I think this could be a good example for people to follow and hopefully provide some information that will benefit them going forward.

FACK I can't believe I missed this. I thought it ended tomorrow.  Man I am so mad at myself.  If there's another chance to obtain one or possibly be willing to sell one of the others please let me.  SOB what was I thinking.

Congrats to the winners.  If anyone is willing to sell them I'll pay double what you got them for.

1859  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Flipper Zero and NFC wallets- is this an issue? on: December 29, 2022, 04:30:26 AM
I may be confusing this with something else but I thought these were popular a few months ago

The security of the wallet/system using the nfc chip will determine how secure it is. If you have to do a gesture for example (tracked by a smart watch) or actually touch a button/screen to confirm.a transaction, it becomes a lot more secure and harder to crack.

I don't think there are many ways these could be used with something like a private key on the nfc chip that gets scanned by the merchant and not something that communicates with a phone to confirm the transaction and send it - I think this is mostly what's mentioned.

It seems like the signal might get interrupted when a device moves too quickly too.(ie if you're walking it might be harder for the initial signal to hit the nfc tag that'd normally be the thing requesting information or providing a charge).

That’s exactly what I was thinking might be the case, but I certainly don’t have the expertise to know for sure. I have also never used an NFC device for bitcoin.

It then got me wondering how this could potentially be bad for bitcoin wallets, specifically NFC storage. Thoughts?
I saw this interesting device few months ago, and I have it in my bookmarks but I never managed to write anything about it in forum.
This can certainly be used as some kind of  Bitcoin signing device, but there are two problems at the moment for this.
First, Flipper Zero is Sold Out currently, and second, price of $169 is way to expensive for me to even consider doing this.
I wouldn't consider it is very safe to be used for Bitcoin, since it has antennas, RFID, NFC, Bluetooth, etc.
On positive side, it's cool that code is released with open source firmware.
