1861  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: October 06, 2021, 12:02:33 PM
Shower thought, are the Lightning Network developers trying to build something that a majority of people in the whole cryptocurrency community doesn’t want? It has been years and years of development, growth of LN is there, but merchants, services, especially exchanges are very SLOW to adopt it. In fact, almost non-existent.

Something like the Lightning Network needs the right packaging for the masses to adopt it.  Android Apps such as Phoenix have taken a few of those steps out (such as receiving on-chain bitcoin and then choosing a node/channel to open) by simplifying the process to send on-chain bitcoin to your wallet, send it out via on-chain or lightning network.

Just because you can only see an occasional flash of light and some rumbling off in the distance doesn't mean there isn't going to be a Lightning (network) storm that's slowly building as it approaches.
1862  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 06, 2021, 11:52:32 AM
That is the thing what i dont like about a women tennis is that the best players keep changing every month.Only Barty is holding currently the first place, but in matter of tournaments we keep seeing new winners and newcomers. No body expect that Raducanu to even come to the third round let alone win the US Open and on next tournament we will probobly have a new tennis player win the tournament or someone that isnt at all in the top 10.

Ash Barty has had a varied game play this year pulling out of one tournament to then go on to win at Wimbledon and has again pulled out just in the last week.

I saw an interview with Barty after Wimbledon on an Australian network and she spoke of coming home in October or November as she would have at that time been on the playing circuit for seven or wight months.  Perhaps she's just tired of traveling in the Covid Era?
1863  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ on: October 06, 2021, 11:48:16 AM
It looks like they are following a pattern, basically because the price has been trending up since they bought their first stash.

I'm an advocate of buying a small amount of bitcoin regularly but being able to HODL what you have bought for multiple months or even multiple years depending on your end game with the budget you set yourself.

So, there are two questions:  Is the MicroStrategy strategy of seemingly regular purchases an up-scaled version of what I wrote above?  And, if so, what is MicroStrategy's end-game for the coins?  (i.e. dump at a given price?  Dump on a given date?  Or just HODL indefinitely?)
1864  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Pawn Stars on: October 06, 2021, 11:22:32 AM
No pics of you and the Pawn Star team?

I would imagine there would be something written into the contract of anyone appearing on the program that guaranteed "the show" would have first pick to provide content to networks and the wider media.  Even "behind the scenes" photographs might be construed as being the "property" of the producers over the owner/provider of the camera.
1865  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Machine on: October 06, 2021, 11:19:13 AM
If you want fixed IP/address, you could use VPN (which support port-forwarding) or Tor (using onion address).

I only mentioned IP addresses as I was presuming that a person would want other nodes to open channels to their own box "in the wild", otherwise it would be just outbound connections to whomever you thought would make a suitable connection to open a channel to.  (In the wild would enable more randomness of locations your node would be connected to).

We've improved the bot detection a lot but with an incentive that large, it's like play Whac-A-Mole for me.

Surely a player who is online 24 hours per day, seven days a week is more likely to be a bot than someone who checks in once or twice per week?

Add to that said user plays once per hour to claim the few satoshis available (even if it does eventually add up) would also be a sure fire thumbprint of a bot?

Actually I'm new online so I don't know which countries have legalized cryptocurrency and let me know if there is a list. There are many experienced users here, they have a request

I only follow a handful of female tennis players and of those since Wimbledon and the US Open have come and gone I've had to look in on any and every fixtures I've never previously heard of just in case my following players happen to be appearing at those tournaments.  Does anyone else have that issue??  Admittedly, I've only been placing tennis bets for about six months now.
1869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Gas Fee is too High? on: October 05, 2021, 09:30:10 AM
It makes no sense to make a $25 purchase and then be expected to fork out an additional $25 - $40 transaction fee (call it what ever you like - it's just a transaction fee plain and simple) via ETH (so basically, you're buying the Tokens for double the asking price as if that's a good thing ?? ) ??

Yea I remember you saying something about Way e Bennett before alright.

All my bets on the United Championship payed off over the weekend and Leinster beat
The Dragons in a very low scoring high error game, final score Dragons 6 - 7 Leinster.
Because of that game Leinster move to 3rd on the table overtaken by Munster and Ulster
on a better points difference  Early days though.

I've put a small wager on the Dragons this week to win.  Not much, but hopefully they get up.

In League, the Intrust Cup is drawing to a close - I'm forecasting the North's Devils to beat Wynumn Manly this week-end.  (As with Union this year, I haven't been giving the local comp much attention and will have to be a bit more comprehensive next season).
1871  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Machine on: October 04, 2021, 08:57:17 PM
Don't you need to have your own IP address fixed or something to enable other users to connect to you?  Otherwise it's no different to having a NUC box with Windows and and always open Bitcoin Core program and Zap/Eclair (or similar) running full time.
1872  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 🛠️ Bitcoin LightningATM on: October 04, 2021, 07:00:10 PM
Interesting application.

I'm wondering why someone would go to the effort of seeking out a Bitcoin ATM just to purchase two cents worth of bitcoin - other than for leaving a small tip, or, to have a few micro rolls of dice or roulette?

Conversely, someone might decide to get rid of a jar of coins for Lightning Bitcoin and you've then got to clear those coins at the bank.

Yeh, the Blue Mountains are to the west of Sydney (the Blue is the hue the gum trees appear to be due to natural tree oil (eucalyptus) being released into the air.

I managed to watch the game from start to finish - the Rabbitohs fumbled the ball a couple of times.  At half time the Rabbitohs were shown in their dressing room exhausted and worn out (as though they'd just lost the match/series) while the Panthers sat in a semi circle and intensely listened to their coach calmly talking through game play.   The fumbled two point field goal attempt was just more selfish desperation as the Rabbitohs coach (Wayne Bennett) as far back as his twenty year tenure at the Brisbane Broncos only ever taught his players to get the ball and run - don't share, don't pass, just RUN! and you could see that last night - the Rabbitohs would get the ball and just not pass when the opportunity presented itself while the Panthers were happy to pass the ball away as quickly as possible.

As I observed in a previous post, last week's games were starkly different, the Panthers kept their opponent from scoring, while the Rabbitohs would just make try after try against a team who let them.

The Panthers didn't let them  Grin

Rugby Union:

The Springboks pull off the win of the season against New Zealand 31 - 29 last night at Lang Park while earlier in the afternoon Australia comfortably won against Argentina 32 - 17.

Rugby League:

Today is the Grand Final of the 2021 NRL Season of Rugby League.  South East Queensland has again woken to another cloudless early spring day.  With less than nine hours until kick off at Lang Park, all eyes are pointed towards George Street for the announcement of the Covid figures for Queensland and whether or not tonight's match will go ahead, or be postponed.

Another Panther's player has been cleared to play tonight (but won't be on goal kicking duties) if you look at the last game played by each team, the Panthers kept their opponent in check while the Rabbitoh's found opportunities and built up a comfortable lead.  I'm expecting the game to be hard fought.

Tonight's game at Lang Park should be an absolute block buster - the Springboks don't want to loose to the All Blacks 0 - 3 who likewise want to take the sweep of their games 3 - 0.

I woke up an hour ago to discover South East Queensland (where tonight's Union Game and tomorrow night's League Grandfinal games are being held) is a cloudless warm day after last night's wild storms that tore through for an hour around six-thirty.

Check out the clear skies on these webcams: https://www.webkams.com/australia/queensland/brisbane/17926  (might help anyone who takes the weather into consideration for their game wagering)

I wouldn't say I "want" to be a Lightning Router, rather, after I'd installed those apps (on my PC and Android phone) I saw there was activity, now there is none and I was wondering if there might be an error in the app or network.

Now I can see the activity I once had was more by fluke than anything (and no, I'm not connected to overly large nodes, but by the same token I'm not connected to the same nodes I once was).

I'm curious about how you were invited onto the show, specifically were you told anything about how many of the items that are offered for sale are actually walk ins?  Or, are they more like yourself where choice items are sourced then appear on the show as sellers genuinely wanting to do a deal?
1878  Economy / Collectibles / Re: BALLET Physical Cryptocurrency Wallets on: October 01, 2021, 01:38:33 PM
While we're talking about the various versions of the cards, does anyone know if the new cards that have various denominations printed on them ( 1.0 / 0.1 etc etc ) are capable of having multi crypto currencies?  Or, are they just limited to just Bitcoin?  I'm thinking of getting a small spread of denominations and loading them with the values stamped on the cards.

As for the Zap, you can actually download and run lncli to manage the built-in LND node. See this guide. Once you have installed it, you should be able to use lncli updatechanpolicy command to modify the fee policy of your every channel.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look and see if I can get it working, otherwise, I'll just slowly empty the funds to enable me to have inbound capacity on those apps with just a nominal amount left in reserve for a rainy day.
1880  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: October 01, 2021, 01:29:16 PM
There's been some speculation that the NRL has been approached by the NSW state government to postpone this weekend's grand-final to a later date so that the teams can return to Sydney to the "spiritual" home of NRL for the Grand Final given Queensland *might* go into a snap lock down due to three locally acquired covid cases.

The irony in that is New South Wales have between eight hundred and twelve hundred covid cases each and every day and Sydney is under a night time curfew, so it's a bit rich of some to speculate the NRL might have to pull the plug on a Brisbane Grand Final (something some in the NRL swore would be "over their dead bodies")
