1861  Economy / Economics / Re: UAE is the biggest gold buyer of Russia during this war on: July 04, 2023, 12:39:23 PM
Rulers of any country with half a brain are buying gold (among other things) these days to reduce their dependence on fiat and more specifically on US dollar that keeps being dumped and printed at the same time. With dedollarisation, countries have to have a replacement otherwise they wake up one day and see all their reserve currency is turned into garbage.

What's even more interesting is that majority of these purchases are not being reported on in the mainstream media. As if they want to keep it under the radar in order to not let the price shoot up while they accumulate...
1862  Economy / Economics / Re: Russia and others, move to use Yuan instead of dollar. on: July 04, 2023, 12:25:06 PM
If bloomberg is to be believed, that still doesn't change anything about the main subject here which is "dedollarisation". There may be some conflicts of interests between countries about what currency to use but they still are not going back to dollar. As the article also claims that the Indian refineries are using Yuan and Derham (not dollar) to purchase Russian oil. Grin
1863  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: فارسی (Persian) on: July 03, 2023, 07:07:18 PM

1864  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Calculating the weight units of a transaction on: July 03, 2023, 05:24:42 PM
With the exception of all the var_int types, are all of the multi-byte structures in the raw transactions in big endian?
Version, outpoint index, input sequence, output amount and locktime are all in little endian.
R and S values in signature, public key (integer value) are in big endian.
Any integer inside the scripts (used in something like OP_ADD) are interpreted as little endian.
Variable length integers indicating the length of the scripts, input/output/witness_item count and witness_item length are all using a special compact encoding with the integer encoded in little endian.
Variable length integers inside scripts used to push something to the stack are using a different special compact encoding but also using the little endian system.

4 byte representation of one:
0x01000000 <-- little endian
0x00000001 <-- big endian
1865  Economy / Speculation / Re: Whats your thought on: July 03, 2023, 02:21:28 PM
First of all the term "pump" is usually used in a duo with "dump" and it is when the price is artificially increased and is expected to be followed by a drop of equal or bigger size.

Secondly this is not a big rise. This was actually pretty small going back to above $30k and if you zoom out a little you can see that we have been seeing a pattern of ups and downs that are inside a fixed range between $25k and $30k ever since March (about 3 or 4 months).
In other words this recent small rise doesn't really need a major news. However if price broke out of $35k resistance, that would be a different story.
1866  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Calculating the weight units of a transaction on: July 03, 2023, 02:02:43 PM

I read BIPs 141 and 144 but there is one confusion that still bothers me:

Are these diagrams as depicted on the Bitcoin Wiki entry equivalent to the raw (segwit or non-segwit) transaction serialized format?

Those are two very hard to understand pictures if you ask me.
Maybe I'm looking at the picture out of context but for example why is there the word "witness" in parenthesis in first picture (P2PKH), there is no witness in P2PKH scripts and even with witness putting it in parenthesis in front of "scriptsig" is just misleading in my opinion.

There is also the "count" boxes which are wrong. The one before scriptsig and 2 scriptpubkeys in first picture are not count they are of the same integer encoding scheme (variable length integer) but they show the "length" of the script not the count. The other two counts before outpoint and first amount are correct and they show the count of inputs and outputs and are of the same type (var. int).

Same with the second picture but with the addition of another "count" behind "sequence" which is wrong and misleading. It is not count, it is another length and it is zero (since the P2WPKH scriptsig is empty).
Same with 3 blue counts. The first one is the actual count (2 witness items in this case) the next two "counts" are the length of the data that exists on the stack (eg. 72 bytes signature and 33 byte public key).

Should be something like this:

1868  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Petition to remove Wasabi from recommendations of bitcoin.org on: July 03, 2023, 08:20:14 AM
It's like Brian Armstrong and Coinbase. Doesn't Coinbase employ the services of a blockchain analytics company to filter which UTXOs are allowed to enter the exchange? I don't see anyone persecuting Brian Armstrong, who, truly deserves it more for being one of the signatories who supported the New York Agreement.

If the response is "Coinbase a centralized service, it's in their right to block what goes in the exchange". Wasabi's coordinator is centralized too, and like Coinbase, we can warn users about the pros and cons, but we can't have an attitude like what the social justice warriors do today.
You are still not understanding the clear distinction between being an honest centralized service and a dishonest one. Someone who uses Coinbase knows well that they have zero control since they don't even have access to their own keys. Not to mention the KYC they enforce. They are not advertised as KYC-less custodial wallet, they are advertised and known as a centralized KYC-enforcing privacy invading necessary evil.
This is both honest and OK.

You can't say the same thing about Wasabi. This tool is being advertised as and is known as a tool to improve your privacy. Which is clearly not true since the  company is working with the blockchain analysis organizations that nullify any privacy users of this wallet had.
In other words Wasabi is a honeypot which is worse.
1869  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2024 will determined bitcoin fate on: July 03, 2023, 05:02:40 AM
Many expectations of bitcoin this year failed,
There are two mistakes that you are making here.
First is that you think bitcoin is a profit machine that should give outrageously high profit to the "investor" every year. That's not true. Bitcoin is the only existing decentralized money and it is working fine as that.
Second is that you are ignoring what happened to the world economy. You can't see inflation and recession at the same time in at least half the world (mostly EU and US) and not see its effects on bitcoin.

Quote
~ 2017-2018 and since then, bitcoin has not record major price increase.
What was the $70k peak then?!

Quote
Now if you calculate from 2018 to 2023 that's about 5 years though because of policy of economic inflation and influence the price has not gain its actual strength to break resistance limits
That's because inflation didn't hit the world alone, it was accompanied by recession and in a recession people liquidate everything of value they have to be able to have money to survive. They aren't buying things like bitcoin. Hence the lack of "exploding rises".

I don't see this changing anytime soon either. There is a good chance that we will see rises but nothing like 2017 exactly because of the ongoing recession that will only get worse as we get close to yet another winter with energy crisis in Europe.
1870  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: فارسی (Persian) on: July 03, 2023, 04:50:29 AM
1871  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BIP39 mnemonic phrase. on: July 03, 2023, 04:34:40 AM
Isn't it because BIP39 mnemonic phrase is somewhat a friendlier way to remember the private keys or something?
The main purpose of creating mnemonic out of an arbitrary data is to be able to write down that data and later on to enter that data in the application. Compare entering a base58 private key and entering a 12 word seed with your keyboard.
It is not easy nor suggested to memorize the mnemonic.
1872  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Petition to remove Wasabi from recommendations of bitcoin.org on: July 02, 2023, 03:13:13 PM
OK, but everything in context. It's almost like everyone wants nopara73 to burn on the stake for the design decisions they made with their wallet. What else should happen? Banish Wasabi from the community?
People want clarity and honesty. When they see conflicts they act this way and it is very well justified. Why do you think people hate bcash so much? It is not because they created an altcoin, otherwise there has been over a ten thousand altcoin at this point. It is because they were dishonest and scammed people by selling it to newbies as "real bitcoin".

It's the same with Wasabi. People aren't bashing it because it lacks privacy, they do it because it promises high privacy but delivers a "spyware".

By the way, it's still a mystery, what actually happened and why.
This whole event was definitely the weirdest thing this year. One theory I heard which sounded interesting was that Putin wanted to remove a potential future threat to Russia this is also why he has been removing all extremists from the military and his cabinet in general. The last piece of the puzzle was the Wagner group which they said they must only operate under the Russian military's command from now on.
I do not think that the last theory is valid for verification as much as it resembles a trap to trap them all, especially since all reports indicate that Russia does not know who these fighters are or their nationalities because they are supposed to be mercenaries. This is in addition to the fact that the process of containing this group, if it actually happened, would prove Russia’s official involvement in all the operations carried out by Wagner in various regions around the world, such as Syria, Libya and Venezuela, which Russia has always denied since it does not officially support the Wagner group as a private military company, since Russian laws do not allow this.
One of the important operations of this group has been in Africa where they kicked French forces out. Interestingly enough after these shenanigans Wagner still continues operating in Africa like before despite France hoping something would change so they could move in again.

Speaking of France, with the recent ongoing "civil war" in France lol people are producing funny stuff mocking the recent propaganda with captions like "Macron has fled the country and 'freedom fighters' have taken over Paris". Cheesy
1874  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will debanking Nigel Farage affect Bitcoin? on: July 01, 2023, 08:06:45 AM
It depends on what you mean by "affect". It could be an advertisement for bitcoin but with teeny tiny effects considering that nobody outside England really knows this dude or cares about him and what he does or says.
This is such a domestic and political matter that is limited to England where politicians who failed in their plan (ie. Brexit) that was "seriously" set in motion ever since 2014 are facing the consequences of their failure, from Johnson who was kicked out of office with humiliation to this dude here.
1875  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best opportunity to harvest your hodl results? on: July 01, 2023, 06:12:27 AM
It comes down to why you bought bitcoin in first place. Was it to make quick profit on your centralized inflationary fiat? Or was it to reach financial sovereignty by owning a tiny portion of a limited supply bitcoin which is the only existing decentralized money?

If it is the first case, I'd say HODL is not even suitable for you. Instead you should start trading to make quick profit from ups and downs of the market, of course after understanding the risks involved with trading specially during volatile times where market is less predictable.
If it is the second case, then asking about "when to sell" makes no sense because you don't "sell money" you use it.
1876  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BIP39 mnemonic phrase. on: July 01, 2023, 05:54:51 AM
Incase we have seed phrases that are not compatible with different wallets, how do I see a complete seed phrase and identity the wallet that generated it?
You should try to remember what wallet you used to create the said mnemonic and that would help with identifying the type or algorithm used in its generation in addition to things such as derivation paths used when creating the child keys/addresses.
Otherwise if you want to know the type of the seed phrase created by someone else is, it is hard since in some cases one mnemonic can be valid in multiple algorithms (eg. an Electrum seed being a valid BIP39 and vice versa). Not to mention that some wallets use crazy derivation paths that can not be guessed without knowing the wallet first.

BIP39 was created by Trezor developers and it become a standard for most hardware and software wallets.
Electrum wallet later made some improvements and created their own seed phrase system,
Electrum had a seed phrase algorithm from the day it was created which is in 2011, Trezor came about 2 years later in 2013.
1877  Economy / Economics / Re: Russia and others, move to use Yuan instead of dollar. on: June 30, 2023, 03:54:11 PM
Maybe just coincidence but ever since France made some trades with China using Yuan instead of dollar the country has been burning in a wave of protests, riots and unrest. As we speak the armed French forces with armored vehicles are in the streets of France suppressing people protesting police brutality with nearly 1000 people arrested and hundreds of police forces wounded (no solid civilian casualties reported). The curfew, strict restrictions on social media and the heavy censorship of the mainstream media prevents further details from coming out.

Granted for the past ~5 years there has been large protests in France (mostly Yellow Vests) but things got worse from the day Macron got closer to China, specially after his visit and his speech where he declared that France has to become more independent from US Grin
1878  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: June 30, 2023, 03:07:45 PM
Did any media said that Wagner Group people were freedom fighters?
Yeah, they do things like this all the time, specially on social media. Their operatives on these platforms are trained to swing public opinion about anything or anybody that serves their purpose. So if Wagner suddenly decided to fight Russia that would be in their benefit hence they suddenly become "freedom fighters".

The effectiveness of air defense depends not only on the type of weapons used, but also on the skillful actions of the people who use these weapons.
That is generally true but not about the Patriot system. The US military said these exact words after the Saudi invaders were attacked in retaliation, they claimed that the Saudi operators were newbies and messed up. The next day the US bases were attacked and the Patriot system still remained useless.

Both the sides resort to misinformation, so it is very difficult to get a clear picture. Ukrainians claims to have shot down so many of these missiles (Kh-47M2 Kinzhal).
Lets not forget that the technology that went into Patriot batteries predates the hypersonic era. In other words it is not even designed to intercept anything "fast".
1879  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] Which of these Categories of Bitcoiners are Most Bullish? on: June 30, 2023, 07:18:47 AM
It's hard to say but definitely noobs aren't bullish, they are mainly delusional which is neither bullish nor bearish. They just make irrational decisions based on their emotions and most of the times based on what random people on the internet tell them, whether it is a silly youtube video or silly lines drawn on a chart telling them to buy or sell!

But the best candidate is those who make the most "commitment" which could be miners since their investment is both in bitcoin (the coins they hold) and in the equipment they have purchased which has to work for some time before they reach ROI and start making profit.
1880  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gospel Preachers: Is Bitcoin the Last Currency in the World? on: June 30, 2023, 07:03:23 AM
So after asking from one of scholars in Quran, i came to know that, at the end , there will be only one nation and thus there will be one currency but at that time there will be no technology. Because those who are muslim they do know when Israel (issa) will came into this world as a human (not prophet) then he will join imam Mahdi against Dajal and the fight will be fought using swords and such related weapons not with new technological weapons which also indicates that at that time, the chances of technology are zero which also indicates that then there will be no blockchain thus no BTC.
I'm no expert but there are a bunch of mistakes in your comment here. First of all Isa is translated to Jesus in English and has nothing to do with Israel (a geographical region that can be anywhere).

As for technology it is actually filled with technology. From the message of the savior that is said to be received by everyone around the globe in "what they hold in the palm of their hands" (sounds a lot like smart phones to me) to the advise to preparing whatever military technology you can in Al-Anfal:60 to description of what sounds a lot like fighter jet (flying above clouds) carrying bunker busting missiles (breaking strongholds and the mountains in half).
Not to mention that سیف in Arabic and in these contexts isn't the literal definition of "sword".

In any case, linking these things to bitcoin sounds very silly.
