Distributed mining is the defense against attack.
Which implies that it needs a defense. Sans that it can be brought down. Governments can ban GPUs, mining rigs etc. so the defense gets weak while they can have powerful hardware.

What does the technology have to prevent such a thing from occurring?

Bitch please, ban computer parts?
They don't need to make a PC revolution to make a 51% attack, they have lots of super-computers to make a lot of floating points operations that, if they want it today, they can make the 51% attack.

So should I be getting a BFL or a bASIC?

It's up to you, since there's no way to say which one is better, except the expected rates.

"Donator:   Manually applied by administration after 10 BTC donation, and gets 5 gold coins under his name
of which the last is half green. 5 coins are shown regardless of post count when user is a Donator."

It don't costs 5 BTC, but for 10 BTC you become kinda like a Hero Member, except for the number of posts.

None of my theories or predictions have been proven wrong
Because, everything you say and when it's prove wrong, you just state "This shit was made of love" or "It occured in my stoned reality". Everyone make mistakes, human is imperfect, and you're not special to never make a mistake. This is the signal of ego.

Quote
To clarify the tidal wave prediction; everyone will experience ego death at some point.  That was my major transition point.  If you fail to consciously kill your ego while you're alive, nature will kill it for you when you die.  You have the choice to defy logic, to defy death and take control of your destiny, to live forever.  If everyone voluntarily stopped being 'human,' stopped hating, stopped judging, stopped doubting and destroying, only loved, we would find heaven on earth.

And you still not wanting to say "OK, I did a mistake and I'm a dumbass", but no, "the wave was made of love", you changed your statement, because you said about water and about one of the motherf*cking coasts of USA.
Ah please, don't come on saying that when you have some stone trip you know what will happen but don't know how to transmit it to others, saying this make each one of us capable of predict.
1866  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MMORPG using bitcoins on: December 12, 2012, 09:59:58 AM
What i would really love to see is a game like yours adopting bitcoin as ingame credits.
Not just bitcoins as a payment method for donations or 'donators items' but the only currency used ingame.
Like for example 1 mBTC = 1 gold coin = 1000 silver coin etc to make it RPG compatible.
You could have NPCs sell things for goldcoins and the more coins get into the system that way the more you could add them as loot to monsters.

Uhuh.... so who puts the bitcoins into the monsters for you to loot?

Exactly... MT based stills a better idea.
1867  Local / Economia & Mercado / Re: [VENDO] BTCs on: December 11, 2012, 05:40:58 PM
se fizer por 28 eu compro

Super miguelão, ativar!
Por 28 tu compra, e na mesma semana vende mais caro. Claro que, é bom que o dólar abaixou, mas o preço do MtGox não está tão baixo assim.
1868  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoins Can Inflate Too - Stop worrying about deflation. on: December 11, 2012, 01:32:16 PM
then it's a problem: we will pay more than pennys for every transaction.
Of course we won't. Transaction fees will keep pace with the exchange rate. This has already happened before.
Conclusion: stills small for a whole world economy.
Conclusion: you're not interested in the truth because you're just stating conclusions without bothering to learn if they are correct or not, so I'm not going to miss anything valuable by ignoring the rest of your posts.

You say that, but me neither you can prove who is wrong, and ignoring just make you less valuable tha my posts Cheesy

I made a simple conclusion because we have 21.000.000 for 1.000.000.000(~50% of the world population, expecting at least in "2030" that 50% of the world can use a decent internet and have a good monthly income) people. In this case, we need lots of decimal numbers, because we must remember that companies and other rich wallets will have far more BTC than common wallets.
1869  Local / Português (Portuguese) / Re: Mercado local de bitcoins on: December 11, 2012, 01:21:38 PM

1870  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoins Can Inflate Too - Stop worrying about deflation. on: December 11, 2012, 01:09:51 PM
21 million bitcoins is way too low for a whole world economy to use
That would be true if there were only 21 million bitcoins, but that's not the actual limit. There will be 21000000.00000000 bitcoins. That's plenty for a world economy.

Most of those decimal numbers can't be used, they worth almost nothing, if they worth something more than a penny, then it's a problem: we will pay more than pennys for every transaction.
Conclusion: stills small for a whole world economy.
1871  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Cheap rig for LTC? on: December 11, 2012, 01:06:36 PM
Raspberry Pi for LTC mining?  I think not.  58XX make decent LTC miners.  I primarily mine with 7970 cards, because most of my rigs are 7970s.  It makes it convenient because I use a one command line for the cards and it works out.

He said cheap, not the most efficient.
1872  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoins Can Inflate Too - Stop worrying about deflation. on: December 11, 2012, 12:26:11 PM
We all know that BTC can't bee the only one crypto-currency.
21 million bitcoins is way too low for a whole world economy to use, and a few other reasons make BTC unable to work as the only one.
1873  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Cheap rig for LTC? on: December 11, 2012, 11:54:33 AM
Raspberry PI.

The companies aren't fairy tales. I claim that their products are.
I'm not saying that they gonna scam everybody, I'm just saying that, today, those f*cking chips doesn't exist.

Sure, they don't exist. But you can't plan a business on the hope that they will continue to not exist. There is every indication that this guy's investment in his GPU rigs won't generate 18 cents/day (factoring power cost) within a few months. Running around comparing ASICs to mythological beings is hazardous to other people's ability to make smart decisions with their money. No one is genetically engineering fairies right now, but people are designing ASIC processing machines.

As I already said: I know this whole thing already, I'm not a BTC newbie, I claimed that because he needs the money NOW.
1876  Other / Off-topic / Re: I get a loan for mining hardware, but I cant back loan, HELP ME on: December 10, 2012, 07:45:09 PM
Prototypes are things that are claimed to exist on closed doors that you CAN'T SEE NEITHER TOUCH.
The company says that, you just believe, like *Minor Edit here* Genesis on The Bible.

BTW it's *tales*, not *tails*

You are implying that every single ASIC company is a fairy tale.
Even if there are over 10 or so. I don't know the exact number.
But I have seen several and due to the difficulty increase
its more then likely that some people are already running a few
to earn some cash on the side. That is working types and
not fairy tales.

BTW you have splice comma. *that, you...*

I know that one day those ASIC's will come out, but until then, they're are faity tales, and you can't prove wrong.
This is some discussion like if God is real, there is no proof of existence, but most believe in it.
And saying to how to correct the past doesn't help anyone. Focus on saying something that really helps, fontlord... err, I mean lightlord.

False, they are ATM working on prototypes, and by definition prototypes aren't fairy tails, You can feel them with your hand.
Fairy tails you can't see, touch, etc.

Btw its *fairy* and not *faity*

Maniac you are absolutely and totally screwed on the mining hardware

www.butterflylabs.com/

if you look there, you will see that 60 GH units sell for about $1299.
So for about $10,000 you can get 420 GH of mining power.
And these units only use 60 watts each.

So you only would need 420 watts of power to get about 84X the mining power.

GPU is going to be completely obsolete.

Why didn't you throw $10,000 at these units?
You could of ordered these many many months ago.
And you will be a early adopter.

Its not that your stupid. Its that you did the wrong thing with your money!

I alone did once spent $4K on bitcoin mining hardware it was about 12 months ago.
And in the end I ended up paying fairly close to even, and basically got free graphic cards.
I wished that I didn't sell them out, and kept mining for a year. I would of by now with 3.3 GH
ended up with $5K or so, of a year of mining time from today to a year in the past.

I sold about one year ago all my mining equipment. And since recently paid for 2X60H units from butterfly labs.

You probably didn't read the whole OP.
He needs the money, and he needs it NOW, those mining ASIC's are fairy tales, eveybody believes that it's real, but no one has seen one at all.
