While we're talking about the various versions of the cards, does anyone know if the new cards that have various denominations printed on them ( 1.0 / 0.1 etc etc ) are capable of having multi crypto currencies?  Or, are they just limited to just Bitcoin?  I'm thinking of getting a small spread of denominations and loading them with the values stamped on the cards.

As for the Zap, you can actually download and run lncli to manage the built-in LND node. See this guide. Once you have installed it, you should be able to use lncli updatechanpolicy command to modify the fee policy of your every channel.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look and see if I can get it working, otherwise, I'll just slowly empty the funds to enable me to have inbound capacity on those apps with just a nominal amount left in reserve for a rainy day.

There's been some speculation that the NRL has been approached by the NSW state government to postpone this weekend's grand-final to a later date so that the teams can return to Sydney to the "spiritual" home of NRL for the Grand Final given Queensland *might* go into a snap lock down due to three locally acquired covid cases.

The irony in that is New South Wales have between eight hundred and twelve hundred covid cases each and every day and Sydney is under a night time curfew, so it's a bit rich of some to speculate the NRL might have to pull the plug on a Brisbane Grand Final (something some in the NRL swore would be "over their dead bodies")

6 "D" wallets

There are people here who are collecting just about anything materialy related to bitcoin and by extension any other crypto coin or token.  If I can make a suggestion, you would be better off holding onto the "D" wallets and then putting them up for auction in a few months time.  I bought one of the "D" wallets not realising the Bitcoin version can also store DOGE (and a whole lot more crypto).

I'm the other way around - I prefer the "D" wallet, perhaps there are others who feel the same way?

What do you have your fees set to? If they are too high even if you are a more direct route most wallets will still choose a cheaper path.
Beyond that, the only other thought is that some people have connected to places they want to spend directly.

Neither Zap for PC nore Eclair for Android have any mechanism to change the fees collected.  Zap you can set an upper limit for fees paid on out bound (presumably from yourself) while Eclair you can set a satoshi per kb on the block-chain transactions, but not for Lightning.

I have a half dozen channels open on each to various large nodes

That's very likely the cause. You should check if those large nodes have channels between themselves.

I know one node does have two nodes (one each clear and onion) however not all of the nodes I currently have are particularly large.
1886  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: September 30, 2021, 11:32:28 AM
Are you talking about things like this with people routing through you:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5158920.msg56082955#msg56082955
Or other transactions?

All of the balances remain stagnant/unchanged unless I make a transaction myself.

Quote
I have found that routing through my node happens in bursts.
Almost like I am 2nd or 3rd choice for a lot of people so when #1 & #2 are down I get the traffic, but then months with nothing, then transactions again.

-Dave

I *was* connected to a few of the users in these threads that have posted node addresses, but some of them have closed from the other end.  Perhaps in time the funds will start shifting again, but at the moment I'm wondering if my choices of nodes to connect to are the issue?

Hello, I am trying to use Ballet wallet, but there is no option to import private keys or seed.

They keep asking me to purchase a physical card to use the wallet. How did you manage to import your seed there?

I looked everywhere in their website and tutorials and wasn't able to find. I also turn expert mode on, but it didn't change anything.

Ballet Wallet asks that you scan the QR code of the public key contained on the front surface of their cards.  The QR code is simply the wallet address starting with a 1xxxx...  (please correct the terminology for this next portion).  Under the peel off section is the priv key that corresponds to the public key.  The sticker hasn't been removed, your funds are safe.  To redeem funds via a Ballet Wallet, peel the sticker off and scan the QR code for the priv key (again, there's no secret add on contained in the QR code - it's just the priv key).

The Ballet Wallet will ask for the "secret passphrase" located under the scratch off section located directly under the QR code.  I haven't done the scratch off part of my cards, however, from screen shots I've seen it looks like this is something that only the Ballet Wallet can decode - sort of like a two of two combined wallet addresses (feel free to clarify the terminology).

Put another way, I am assuming that the three components, priv key, password and the Ballet Wallet App are combined in a blender to verify you are in control of the card and want the funds released.

As well as Bitcoin and corresponding forked coins, you can add (just to name a short few) Tron, Doge, Ether (and a truck load of ERC20 tokens) to the wallet app and recover with the one priv key and password (?? part private ??) code.  You can both buy and sell funds within the app via credit card, or swap via DEX style exchanges.

If I can make a suggestion, because you can have multiple wallets (cards) perhaps start a new wallet with a public/private key pair and (without sending any funds to it) see what it asks you to do when you try to send funds (i.e. does it ask for a priv key and password ??)

Is anyone using either Zap or Eclair wallets?  I have a half dozen channels open on each to various large nodes, but haven't had *any* movement for many months now.

On my old PC & phone I could see the balances shifting on a daily basis, but with the new hardware, no movement at all.

*edit* the Zap wallet is open near all the time, while the Eclair App is open on an ad-hoc basis.

I recall a game in High school which I *think* was called Chinese Whispers whereby students would form a circle, the teacher would whisper in the first students ear, they would repeat what was heard around the circle then the teacher would record what was said.

After a few times, various students would say their phrase out allowed and the circle was broken.  This seems to be a sililar project.  I might even give it a go...

I have 3 accounts. Gugakid, bigguga, AlexandrTDS. I have not used my bigguga account for a long time. I use AlexandrTDS only for Signature.

Thank you for providing this information.  This thread is intended to identify alts.  It has never been intended to "flame and shame" users.  However, if a user is found to have been preaching certain guidelines such as enrolling two UID's in the same signature campaign, then the investigator uncovering the alts will (usually) report that to the Campaign Manager concerned.

It also goes without saying that if the known alts are found to be alts of banned uers, or scammers etc, then the investigator will report that too.

We're now entering the Fourth Quarter of 2021.  I hope everyone is staying safe and covid free in these unusual times we find ourselves in.

The NRL grand final is going ahead in Brisbane, despite Queensland's latest COVID-19 scare, with a final decision about the event expected to be announced on the day.

Townsville is in place if needed as a back-up venue, but the NRL's head of football Graham Annesley said today there were no active plans to move the match north.

REPORT: Wallabies Test 'in doubt' after Argentina players caught crossing state border

Australia’s rugby union Test on Saturday is in doubt after eight members of the visiting Argentina took a day trip from Queensland to Byron Bay, NSW, according to a report in the Courier-Mail.

The paper says the players include captain Julian Montoya and they are “understood to have crossed the border with two staff members – including the team manager – on Wednesday”.

The paper says the party were trying to return to their Gold Coast training base on Wednesday night when they were stopped by police and refused entry to Queensland.

“The players and staff spent last night in a hotel in Kingscliff as the dispute escalated into an international incident,” it was reported.

“Queensland Health reinstated the so-called border bubble for Tweed Heads and Byron Bay from 1am on Wednesday.

“But this means residents of the shires and Queenslanders travelling to these areas can only cross the border for work, education, compassionate care and essential shopping.”

Australia was due to name its lteam later Thursday for the match scheduled for Saturday afternoon on the Gold Coast.

My understanding of how SMF works (note this Forum may have disabled it) is that an I.P. or indeed an I.P. range can be banned from logging into the Forum, or as is the case with banned users, they are auto banned on the basis of their I.P. be it the provider or some other marker of their origins.

Here are my latest reports concerning ban evaders.

Accounts Connected: (Note: Banned shown in red / Inactive in Blue / Active profile (in ordinary link colour))

1. airdropfactory
2. niloy111

Both UID's are now showing as banned, so that's two less accounts that have an opportunity to reap in rewards by the one scammer.

What I am wondering however is what did you do that caused the admin/mods to ban the second account so quickly?  There are many other UID's that other investigators have linked, yet they are still roaming the forum as they please.
1895  Economy / Economics / Re: Tulip Mania 2.0 on: September 29, 2021, 07:13:42 AM
Do not compare things that are physical and digital because people will always say "but can I hold it" as an argument.

Ironically, that same argument can be made of the humble Tulip which once cut has a finite life span and even when potted for a longer shelf life invariably has a finite life span too.

If someone bemoans they cannot hold bitcoin in their hand, remind them their fiat bank account is no different - just some ones and zeros on a computer's hard drive (except with no block-chain for verification)

But 20-or-so million BTC live on, circulating on other blockchains,

That's hardly grim news that 20 out of a possible 21 million bitcoin are still in use some eighty years hence along with off-chain systems such as the Lightning Network taking over the day-to-day transactions.

With the price of bitcoin ever on the increase, it's already apparent that "Mom and Dad investors" will be forced out of the market and only those with increasingly deep pockets will remain.  Already stock markets see shares in the hundreds of dollars PER-SHARE and no one bats an eyelid.

I can't say I've heard of the campaign manager, @BALTA00 (who woke up in April) much less the campaign they manage.  What I found interesting is the campaign thread (which is self moderated) has had nearly seventy pages of posts in the last four weeks since the campaign was launched (and no posts deleted)

Some campaigns with such obscure CM are found later on to be both run by the CM and shills of the CM funneling payments back to the CM

But now you've given an example of gold's intrinsic value- use in jewelry.

You forgot gold is used in circuity and motherboards etc and is a better conductor than either copper or silver from the same group of the periodic table.  Gold (unlike silver or copper) does not corrode so it's use in electronics is more preferred.

Scrap metal recovery from circuit boards is a thing now and may not make a person rich, but is far from being cost prohibitive (and usually only involves chemicals, not power consumption - a far cry from the labour intensive cultivation of crops, harvesting and transport to market that were needed for the manufacture and sale of Tulips)

Who are you going to put your money on?

Both the All Blacks and the Springboks put in a solid game - more so when they go head to head with each-other.  I'm putting money on The All Blacks to win.  Hopefully it isn't a ruse on the part of the Springboks to hold back a little until the end.

Toulon lost to Perpignan while Burleigh won over South's Logan in their game.

I've just put 0.1 mbtc on the Panthers ( $ 1.63 ) to win next weekend over the Rabbitohs ($ 2.22 - I'm very surprised they got to the grand-final).

New Zealand continues to be in the lead on 24 points after five rounds.  Argentina are yet to score a point and you'd have to think any more games putting money against them would be a fairly good bet.
