1881  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: thank god for bringing btc back in 2018. on: November 14, 2022, 09:43:49 PM
Economic crisis or bitcoin plunge is really an opportunity or a risk, depending on each person's point of view. For me, this is really an opportunity as I missed it in 2018 this time I expect bitcoin to stay below 10-15k for as long as possible. When others are afraid is when we should be greedy, wealth is not for the masses.

The opportunity that people would refuse to take.  Grin I remember some months ago when the market sentiments were neutral after the Luna fiasco, so many people were calling for bitcoin to come back below $20k but I'm disappointed that they are even more afraid that it will take a long time before people would have trust in Bitcoin again after FTX false altruism. I just made the conclusion that some people will always remain poor even when they are been shown a path to success, they forgot that this is how the bear market used to be and only the smart ones usually know what it means.

I have bought and held some bitcoin at a high price and despite the drop, I'm still not shaken, I will buy the little I can afford and continue my DCA until we ride another bull run again, I might have missed making the previous journey with people but this time, I want it written boldly on the wall that I was also there and profited.
1882  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A Nigerian Man Won $51,000 in Sports Betting With a Bet of Just $1.072 on: November 14, 2022, 08:41:27 PM
The only problem with such wins is that they come after so many failed attempts, it's usually one or two misses every time and this gives you false hope of getting super close such that you keep playing and investing. Overall good to see that it finally paid out for the Nigerian man, hope he won't give it back to the bookies thinking he will win more!

I've noticed that these kinds of games are always won by street guys and with small money, you rarely see the big guys with such announcements; perhaps they play online and cash out online without anybody knowing in order to maintain their privacy. Some people believe that gambling money is air money and that because players do not work for it, they spend extravagantly without keeping records, which is why their money generally disappears quickly. However, I believe the problem comes in the degree of the player's financial status and exposure.

Am hoping it's sporting knowledge at play and not those funny fixed matches groups people are using on these social media sites Roll Eyes

The games were basketball matches. Perhaps basketball matches are now easier to predict than football matches, maybe there is something about their sports that we do not yet know.  Cheesy

1883  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Parents And Their Children In Gambling.. on: November 14, 2022, 08:15:20 PM
I do not think that parents should share their gambling related activities with children. When I was living on rent, there was a family who lived near me. The father left his business and was in full time gambling. He was also into offline gambling and lost a lot of money in this. He almost list his entire life savings into this. He had two sons and he was not able to give them good education and comfortable life because of this.

Both of his sons were also unemployed because of this and they also used to part time jobs and do gambling with the money that was left with them after expenses. So whole family was into gambling and they never cared to save any money and then invest it to grow their business or develop passive sources of income. When you have billions, and you become irresponsible, even then you can loose all the money with such an attitude. I always encourage responsible gaming.

Kids you see are very inquisitive, you think they are not watching what the parents are doing but deep within, they are smart and know whatever the parent does including the ones they hide especially if they fail to take responsibility at home, they always know.
If a parent must gamble, it is their wish but they should try and make sure they don't fail at parenting else if the kids feel heat and difficulties, they will also want to engage in gambling they know their parents are doing which is very bad, kids aren't supposed to be exposed to gambling unless they have come of 18 years old and even at that, it should be done responsibly.
1884  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2022/23 on: November 13, 2022, 01:59:40 PM
Real madrid has started to find a backup for him. He may retire in real madrid but we didn't know when. the problem is his age become even closer to the 40 years old. that means his stamina will not be so strong like when he was still around 30's. i hope that osimhen would be agreed with the offer from real madrid. madrid is the best team in the world but since world cup will be starting very soon and so many players from the various team will take the rest from playing with their club. benzema must also play for french for the world cup

They should do, that position really needs to be occupied because I don't like the way Rodrigo was slipping out from that striker position during their match against Cadiz, he was later substituted by Ceballos and yet, I wasn't really satisfied as would have been if it was Benzema. To say that Benzema's absence from the squad had an effect on Vinicius, Cadiz gave him lots of pressure, man had to fight for himself and other players.

I think Benzema made it clear already that he is not leaving Real Madrid, his transfer out of that team is not a discussion for Madrid and I will be happy if they successfully sign Osimhen back to Spain, the guy is representing Seria A, just look at the gap points Napoli has given to other teams on their table but what I fear is that Napoli wouldn't sell that guy for a smaller amount of money, Real Madrid would have to break the bank to get him over to Laliga.
1885  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A disheartening true life winning story on: November 13, 2022, 01:36:46 PM
You may have your reasons subjective to yourself which probably might necessitate your diction but in a global setting as this I'll appreciate you give some regards to your nationality, it wasn't necessary mentioning name for no country is law perfected and corrupt free.
Nigeria is not the only country with corrupt judiciary or leaders. We are a great nation with great people.

Before you become emotional with my comments, it became an open discussion the moment I see the quote below:

It was open for further reading for everyone, now tell me where it has become a crime to mention the country and besides, where are the lies in my statement? This wouldn't happen in a developed country considering the fact that is gambling within its jurisdiction. If you followed up on the investigations, you would agree with me that they are only trying to reap the player and they are trying to bribe him because they will lose so much amount of money.

If you really gamble, I hope you don't become a victim because you will do worse if you have ever lost a game to a gambling vendor, keep the nationality brouhaha and let's say some facts.
1886  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is your opinion on casinos that don't have ANN threads in the forum? on: November 13, 2022, 01:03:46 PM
Hey guys! Lately I have noticed a trend on one or two occasions and I am curious to ask for your opinion on this particular issue of casinos that do not have an ANN thread in this forum, where discussion on the progress and development of the casinos and also serve as a feedback mechanism to handle issues resulting from members' activities on their site.
I don't know if this topic has been discussed before, if it has, please point me to the thread where the topic has been discussed otherwise please leave your views here in the comment section.
Some of those casinos already hard a running signature campaigns in the forum but yet doesn't have an active ANN thread or a representative in the forum, so how do players deal with issues from the site, should we contact the campaign managers each time there is a problem from those casinos?

It is not a trend, it has exist long before now and I think that is one of the ways casinos get their loyal Bitcointalk players updated but Signature campaigns thread usually include them if there is anyone.
I've been following Rollbit since before I worked on their campaign, and I must say that there were certain activities going on in that thread that were never mentioned in their signature ads. Personally, if you are a one-person casino that is loyal to one, it is always a good idea to stick to their announcement thread to get updates and activities of the casino, as for example, the World Cup is coming up and many casinos have included some promotions on their threads but did not effect that on their signature, but my campaign Fortune Jack did with sweet bonus to be won.
1887  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Does Gambling/Casino Ads Help An Addicted Gambler Who Wants To Stop Gambling on: November 12, 2022, 04:46:39 PM
If we ban gambling adds because gamblers might see it and feel the need to gamble maybe we should ban models in swimsuits because sex addicts might feel the need to masturbate. Or let's ban food pictures because people with eating disorders will have a hard time.

This doesnt makes sense to some extent, you can't ban food because it is a necessity, though I feel Sex adverts doesnt have a financial effect as gambling does, the reason why some people feel gambling is a headache to people is financial concerns and addiction and we all see how they are been advertise here and there but I can't boast that I haven't seen sex board been publicly displayed without broadcasting agency interfering and I don't think there is anyone here who dislike food or food adverts at least, we all do.

Quote

Your addiction is yours to fight and control. You can't expect the whole world to help you with it. Don't ant to see ads? Lock yourself in a room and don't come out until you're healed.

Anyone who thinks gambling adverts should be outlawed isn't a serious person. If you don't enjoy casino games, at least you'll appreciate sports because it's the reward and aspiration of certain fans of football. Gambling doesn't affect you until you've begun or had the fervour to participate.
1888  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cash out or wait till the end on: November 12, 2022, 11:30:16 AM
Menh it is no easy to be a gambler. Well that the life
"NO RISK NO GAIN"

recently I placed a bet on different soccer games and I  staked it with about $70 on accumulated odd of 10.36 which came out a total of $725.

After placing my bet I later check back on the games in my account to monitor the success of my predictions and I opened the betslip and I  was given a  cash out of about $389 and the matches remaining was just one game  so I decided not to take the it...i decided to be a  brave gambler and wait for the last game to be concluded and then collect the full money

But the last  game didn't turn out the way I wanted it and I lost that $389

I have faced similar situation before and most times I often collect the cash that comes as a  cash out then the result of the Last match turns out correct and instead of having the whole money I miss out and get a  little chunk of it..

So what would you would advise as a gambler? is it better to collect the cash out or wait for the full cash

You shouldn't feel remorseful for any of your actions provided that your intentions were for good, you never know what you predicted may actually go as your mind directed you. I have been on this table many times, I do feel bad though the same way you lost $389 but trust me, if you had cashed it out on the last game and the game turned out as you initially predicted, you will also blame yourself for pulling out.

However, these decisions are simple to take without risk, you had a $10.36 stake and you already had $389, sometimes you have to let your greed be on the low and go for something instead of win you are having doubts on, having your money without risk is better than having unrealized win with uncertain outcome, always remember this adage that a bird at hand worth two in the bush.
1889  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who are those people that you don't want them to know you are a gambler on: November 12, 2022, 10:31:36 AM
Some gamblers keep their gambling activities secrete from people they have close relationship with. Having it in mind that if these people know they are gamblers,it might bring down their reputation or make them look wasteful. I hide my gambling activities from my Mom the reason is that she hates gamblers and calls them irresponsible people from her own perspective.

Are you such gambler ?
Who are these people you hide your gambling activities from ?
Give a reason why you don't want them to know you are a gambler.

What I choose to do with my money and how I spend the money I work so hard for are entirely up to me. Society has different ways of portraying gamblers, typically as someone who are being influenced and addicted, which they disapprove of as a bad habit. However, when they learn you've hit the jackpot, the same people who are close to you will want to be even closer.

There are many reasons why people want to keep their finances and gambling private, but for me, it is simply because I don't want to risk being judged or appearing to be an addicted gambler when I'm not, we all have various ways that we choose to live our lives regardless of how others perceive or see them.
1890  Economy / Economics / Re: Can our work be turned into a full-time investment? on: November 11, 2022, 04:44:49 PM
Under the current situation, many companies are facing bankruptcy or layoffs at any time, and we do not know what we will face tomorrow.
Do we need to switch our jobs to online jobs or a full-time investment in cryptocurrency? If you were fired by the company, would you still find a job you love as quickly as possible?Or you might choose to relax your mind and look for work again after a while.
Do you have better advice for work?

Crypto jobs vacancy is determined by market taste, companies employ more staff during the bull run and lay off many during the bear market. However, if you are a developer that is good at programming, most of the crypto jobs are remote, you need to leave your home to meet the company that wants to employ you, if they want to hire you, they will do an online interview for you and if you are suited for the job role, they will hire you. The advantage of these roles is that programming is similar just that they differ in syntax and arrangements, you can switch easily like a pro and get familiar as if you have been there.
1891  Economy / Economics / Re: How much longer until paper money is no longer in circulation? on: November 10, 2022, 02:01:06 PM
There are talks among the world's major central banks to begin the creation of their own digital currencies (Central Bank Digital Currencies for that matter). The launch of Bitcoin, and the widespread popularity of "De-Fi", has led governments to act fast before they're left behind the game. They know they can't beat Bitcoin, so they will try to be in-par with it by launching digital currencies of their own. The average person won't notice any difference with the new digital cash system, as everything would be the same as using a credit/debit card.
I'm beginning to question whenever CBDCs will be able to replace paper money for good, or will it co-exist with the old system? After all, credit/debit cards didn't manage to replace paper money when they launched. For being in the 21st century, I'd say paper money should be phased out as soon as possible. Everything should turn digital, as we live in a digital society.

How long do you think it will take for paper money to be phased out for good? Will CBDCs be able to replace not only paper money but also credit/debit cards? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley

Apart from enabling cashless transactions in metropolitan areas, I still don't get what the CBDC is trying to achieve. It isn't anything like the Defi or Bitcoin blockchain ledger, it's just a more sophisticated cashless transaction that will still be impacted by paper money. While some nations are creating their own, others are already operational, and certain nations, like the US, are still opposed to doing so, I don't believe they will do so anytime soon.

In my opinion, CBDC won't function in rural areas and will only be useful in select metro areas where there is internet access. Additionally, I believe that some regions of the world will still use paper money in 50 years.
1892  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coins on an exchange, any exchange, are never safe on: November 10, 2022, 01:10:37 PM
Every day it seems a new story emerges about an exchange going bankrupt. Has been a recurring pattern since the Mt. Gox collapse. Why, with so many examples of failures, do people continue to keep their money on these? You don't own crypto if you have "coins" on an exchange, you have an IOU from a business that may or may not even be solvent.

I think MT. Gox time didn't teach lots of people so much sense or perhaps they forgot so early that it happened 8 years ago but the situation is not different with SBF and FTX, Sam was an Id!ot for using customer's money for strategic partnerships but even at that, there were so many red flags that beg so many unanswered questions like where they were getting all those millions from, not that the fees are enough to generate such revenues for those purchases and partnerships but people were all quiet and didn't withdraw their assets.

Bitboy was ranting the other day shouting at SBF for lobbying the top US office but so many people were using that as common discussion and laughing instead of being concerned, now that the did have been done, they have to learn the hard ways not to leave their Bitcoins on exchanges, the movement has always been not your keys, not your coins. I hope this mistake is the last one we would have in the crypto industry because it's killing the hope of investors.
1893  Economy / Speculation / Re: I hope this Bitcoin dip won't be deeper? on: November 10, 2022, 12:57:29 PM
Based on recent trend in Bitcoin, this is the worst year in crypto history and the year is not over yet. I was talking to a friend this morning concerning the current crypto trend and guess what? This dude is loosing hope already.

And I don't even know how to encourage myself to invest more in Bitcoin, is it right for me to go ahead and buy the dip ?

Is it his first time buying Bitcoin? Normally, that is how it has always been for a first timer, they get discouraged when they see negative PNL or loss from their capital but if at all his dedicated and really wants to stay for a long time, they wouldn't bother with the short-term losses.
Looking at the current condition of the market, I can't say for sure if there are any investors this year that has been in profit with all their crypto including those who have been doing daily cost averaging but one thing is for sure, it will always bounce back when the right time comes but no one here can assure you the bottom of Bitcoin, it could stop here or continue down depending on the manipulations of centralized exchanges.
1894  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Cash which is more secure on: November 09, 2022, 06:03:08 PM
Bitcoin is a smart way of spending, however, the manner in which some people spend bitcoins doesn't differentiate them from cash like they spend bitcoin on exchanges and get verified with exposed privacy, which breaks the purpose of bitcoin. To spend smartly, privacy must be preserved to the minimum level otherwise, I don't see the reason why use Bitcoin in the first place.

Cash has counterparty risk, while Bitcoin doesnt. It cant really compete with Bitcoin in long term security, because theres no security mechanism to prevent cash from getting inflated, getting replaced by new currencies or being taken out of circulation by policies for example. This is the bigger flaw of cash in terms of security, which basically makes it an insecure store of value.

The frequent unexpected volatility is what bothered me with bitcoin as a means of payment, cash is prone to inflation while Bitcoin is not but volatility remains an issue. Bitcoin is more of a store of value than means of payment in my opinion, though I can't deny its merit of instantaneous payment.
1895  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Your take on Bitcoin adoption trust issues on: November 09, 2022, 05:32:51 PM
Today I had an opportunity in engaging with some youths, Immediately after Church service, discussing the future of Bitcoin, Their knowledge so far, And what their expectations are.

After long discussion, I found out that a lot of misinformation has be spread to those young lads about Bitcoin, How violating it is, how it can rekt someone, and lot more

Based on the conversation, I found out that the biggest challenge currently within Bitcoin adoption in those Communities is trust issues, It's extremely difficult and hard for people to agree and come to term with anything that has to do with Bitcoin most especially as a result of those government approved school scheme for sensitization about the danger of digital currencies, Thereby corrupting the minds of those young ones

What do you think one can do, to educate those young ones, And drive the point that with all honestly, Bitcoin isn't as bad as they think it is?

I hope the discussion topic wasn't CRYPTO. When you said that to people, they don't usually know the difference between altcoins and Bitcoin and from that, they are actually right about what is even happening right now in the markets. Altcoins will get you rekt and what painful the most is that most of them hardly bounce back after their crash, only bitcoin has been the survival of all and it pains me that Bitcoin is always dragged along for these silly mistakes by altcoin projects.

As a pro bitcoiner who can differentiate between wrong and right, it is your responsibility to guide them, tell them the intellectual and values of bitcoin, the importance of bitcoin, what good bitcoin has done in the past and what it will do tomorrow as a decentralized asset
1896  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Recent event: Stay away from centralized exchanges (FTX, Binance, etc), use DEX on: November 09, 2022, 04:59:39 PM
I have been keeping my personal text ever since I joined this forum, "Not your keys, Not your coins" is one of the most underrated comments beginners take lightly yet the most important of all. The exchanges have blindfolded investors into believing that they are the good custodian and they are best when it comes to assets management so that they can trade anytime but that hasn't always been the case with exchanges, they cannot be trusted because at any slight problems and difficulties, they use peoples fund as bailout as we have experience from SBF, FTX and Alameda, this is bad for the crypto industry and I hope the affected investors learn from this mistake.
1897  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A disheartening true life winning story on: November 09, 2022, 08:34:16 AM
Am I the only one also thinking that if I ever win, they will not give my winnings? I know it's a kind of trust issue, but still, that is mostly coming to my mind when going to the lottery and even to an online gambling website, but still, I continue to bet, lol. From every angle, we see that person would win the case even though the database has been wiped out because the result of it was public no matter what they say. Still, the problem is that if they give some money(the lottery) to the judge(possibly the other side will win) or they will win,  what I am scared of is that due to technical difficulties, the judge will declare that he won the case, but the issue is that the lottery will only give half of the amount.

Except it occurs in a nation where the law is not effectively implemented! Looking at this case, it occurred in Nigeria, and because the player did not have enough money to sue the gambling house, he may lose the case since the judge may be easily influenced by money by gambling owners, but if it is a country where nonsense is not tolerated, trust me, they will pay that money, as well as other damages and for lying that the games were not recorded on their database. As far as I'm concerned, this case will likely finish with the player being compensated and accepting the loss, sometimes we are deceived because of our limited strength.
1898  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Quit gambling today and lesson i learnt on: November 09, 2022, 08:02:58 AM
The thread is not to ask sympathy but to share lesson i learnt from gambling such as you can gain from it something.

You're having a bad day, and it's all written in your text, there's no need to blame yourself for whatever mistakes you've made, it was your calls and decisions, take a break, and, as you've also mentioned, but not necessarily alcohol, drinking may harm you much more.

You had your sweet winning days, but don't you think you're being too hard on yourself? If you're good at sportsbooks and have a lot of wins, don't you think it's better to stick to that one rather than engaging in multiple games and sportsbooks that may leave you with a huge slip of losses? Take a break and remember that it's all for fun and little motivation for money if you want to have inner peace with gambling.
1899  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: gambling winner identity on: November 09, 2022, 07:40:31 AM
this is a good topic [Gambling house responisbilty to protect people data] and it should be mandatory for gambling houses to keep user privacy safe but there is something interesting that I saw in a tweet;

There is nothing special about his appearance, just another jackpot winner trying to hide from the public and don't want people to put eyes on his money, perhaps it may put him in danger if some friends and society know that he had won such a big amount of money. Talking about privacy, this is one of the ways but this doesn't hide his identity from the casino who gave him that check, they know who he is, they know about him and when he cashout that amount into his bank account, it will reveal the destination account. To avoid this kind of problem, it is better to accept your winnings in Bitcoin, they are pseudonyms at least to protect you from the public and the casino if they don't request anything like KYC.
1900  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: November 08, 2022, 07:21:25 PM
Arsenal aren't the best in the league so far, but they are performing better, but I must admit that they know how to search for points, and it has given them a swift edge over others, I  blame it on the top teams who have been napping all along.
Arsenal are best based on points and game results, but their chances are no better than Manchester City and some of the other top teams. Somehow Arsenal didn't seem to convince many people how they ended the season but as far as the season goes then I think Arsenal is still the most consistent team out of all the other teams.

I find it offensive when people pretend that Arsenal will disappoint their supporters in the end because they believe that is how they perform last year. However, they fail to recognize that this year has been exceptional for Arsenal, they performed admirably this season, last season was always finding a way to win games only to lose or draw the following and not in comparison to this one. I can't recall the last time they had a linear winning streak.

Quote
Arteta has really given a lot of improvement to Arsenal's quality and mentality since last season, obviously this season they have improved well with only 1 loss, 1 draw in 14 Premier League games. The weekend, Arsenal will away match to Wolves and that will get them back in the party.

If not that Manchester City drawn two matches and loss 1, they would have been at the top because they have both conceded same numbers of goal but Manchester City has more number of score goals, that’s where they flop and since then Arsenal has been trying to avoid similar mistake. Another slight mistake from Arsenal would give Manchester City to over take them and trust me, when they do, Guardiola would be sitting there, only grace would take Arsenal back to that top 1
