What is the current status?   Are fees still elevated since we last heard at 4.8%?

1882  Other / Off-topic / Re: Romney tax returns being ransomed for $1,000,000 worth of bitcoins on: September 05, 2012, 07:15:13 PM
What a waste of money.   What do you think you will learn from him that your don't already know?    He is rich, has a good accountant and has off-shore funds that are basically non-taxable.   SURPRISE SURPRISE, maybe it is just me but I figure if I examined 98% of all federally elected representatives they would show the same story just in different amounts.

I didn't see an "About" page.  Can you please give us a basic overview and how it ties into Bitcoin?   I want to know more.  Thanks

whis·tle-blow·er   [hwis-uhl-bloh-er, wis-]
noun
A person who informs  another or makes public disclosure of mismanagement, corruption, illegality, or some other wrongdoing.

at·tack   [uh-tak]
verb (used with object)
4.
to direct unfavorable criticism against; criticize severely; argue with strongly: He attacked his opponent's statement.

Now, do I really need to quote you (again)?

You're not the only PPT operator guilty of propping up pirate's credibility and trying to silence and ridicule any whistle-blowers. You are probably not even the worst, but you just dont know when to keep your mouth shut. You so crave "respect", if you want to get any ounce of respect then stop denying what everyone can read, stop pointing fingers at everyone else and start by offering an apology to everyone you helped convince of Pirate's legitimacy and everyone you insulted and ridiculed for pointing out this scam.

I would like to know who was on the inside of pirates operation and come out with proof, or hell, even some evidence that it was a ponzi.

People like you who just yell ponzi are not whistle blowers... That is more like trolling since you have no evidence at all.

BTW there are claims pirate is paying out on IRC. I have not personally verified that to be true but some people I trust have said they have.

I did want to weigh in because I see both points from P4man and Goat.  Once you do an "investigation" then we can confidently use tags like "ponzi" in this case.   Fraud would be a better word to use at this point.  Promising 7% weekly (with compound option) interested on a fixed currency shows someone who does not understand exponents and this I would see as the core mis-statement I would use to justify this being a "fraud".  At this point I bet many people have gone back and edited many of their posts, but I do know there was a core group of influential members on this board that would go away anyone opening posting doubt about this investment scheme.   It reminded me of a cliche.

Using the lack of evidence as a defense is something I have seen governments use in cover-ups. It doesn't help in this situation because of the group mentality of people who defended this operation and had a personally vested interest in a positive outcome.

The evidence is clear, a far majority of people are owed vast sums of real or made-up gains.   We do have a few people who said quite frankly that they knew "exactly" what Pirate was doing to made these gains and swore secrecy to protect the operation.   I find these people just as guilty and if they were to come public and make a statement for the record, it would help restore their reputation imho.

In closing, I believe this is a Fraud at this point until new creditable evidence to the contrary surfaces.   The admin should take some action on his account and looking into his other operation because they are both linked through the same person.

1885  Bitcoin / Meetups / Interest in a Seattle Bitcoin Meetup? on: August 30, 2012, 05:03:16 PM
I have been thinking about starting a Seattle meetup group to discuss Bitcoin.  Please post your interest in doing this and if you are under 21 let me know so I will not set it up in a bar.

Thanks,
D

I know who Pirate is from the photo.  Independently verified.
1887  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How did people fall for this Pirate scam? on: August 30, 2012, 04:38:40 AM
Like many scams - the 'social' aspect played a huge part I believe.
Scammers & sociopaths tend to be friendly likeable people, and in this case he's made sure to really 'connect' with the community and build a buzz of discussion and enthusiasm - a long with a little 'intrigue' about exactly what his secret sauce is.

People felt they 'knew' pirate.  He's 'one of us' sort of thing.

The ad-hoc web of trust can be a great tool for business networking - but also a dangerous thing.   (Which has always made me somewhat suspicious of Ripple ever being practical!)

+1   This is spot on.
1888  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Its Official Pirate Has Defaulted!! on: August 29, 2012, 07:58:32 PM
Goat, I apologize for being a douche to you..... I only NOW realize that you are getting fucked just like everyone else, or perhaps worse from the requests of Trendon.

Thanks, it really does suck getting fucked up the ass from someone you trusted...

..and assholes such as myself don't add to the 'discomfort' I am sure.

I HONESTLY thought his game was Realestate/Loans etc in the REAL world and I fell for it hook, line and sinker.

@Bitlane - Are you referring to "hard money" loans?

1890  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Its Official Pirate Has Defaulted!! on: August 29, 2012, 07:43:17 PM
It's very interesting to what how all the so-called libertarians here usually shout the loudest about why bitcoin is so beautiful. It is not controlled by the big banks, by governments, it is total freedom, independent, etc etc.
But as soon as they get scammed due their own incredible stupidity, suddenly they talk about "official defaults", regulations to defaults, legal actions, etc. Face it. You joined a ponzi and lost a lot of money and there is NO regulation, law or government going to help you out. And that is how YOU wanted it YOURSELF, after all, that is what bitcoin is all about, right?

This whole debate about default, no default, and regulations is hypocrisy at its best. You gave your digital money to a digital guy and he digitally ran away with it. What the fuck else did you expect?

+1  - You always need some form of regulation or it becomes the breeding ground for all kinds of schemes and fraud.
1891  Economy / Gambling / Re: Accepting Pirate bets on: August 29, 2012, 07:50:57 AM
The bet will be Full repayment up until the time of BS&T announced shutdown.  Thus interest after that point which pirate has already anounced default on will be ignored (this weeks interest).

The spirit of the bet is such that pirate will have the bitcoins to repay his debs (over 500k) not some technicality (shorting bitlane by 1 btc out of spite).  The timeframe will be 2 weeks.  The bets will be denominated in USD.  The odds will be by offer... I have received 4:1 so far.  All bets will be escrowed by a trusted forum member.

Your a new member, why should anyone take this serious?  We have plenty of people to sidebet with.   You must be an old member making a new account or you would not know enough about this to really bet.
1892  Economy / Gambling / Re: Accepting Pirate bets on: August 29, 2012, 05:35:34 AM
Given the turn of events (Pirate anouncing default),

I WILL STILL BE ACCEPTING ESCROWED BETS

but the odds will now be set just above TYGRRR debt at 5:1 odds.

THINK PIRATE WILL NOT REPAY HIS DEBTS by September 9th?  Put your money where your mouth is.  Contact me.  ALL BETS WILL BE ESCROWED BY A TRUSTWORTHY MEMBER

I love these 12 post new members popping up to take bets on already defaulted debt.

1894  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [POLL] How will Pirateat40's debt repayment unfold? on: August 28, 2012, 03:49:53 PM
The amount of USD he would need to purchase the balance of the coin he needs to repay is not huge. Even the total amount of coin needed calculated in USD is not a very large amount of USD. (even if you calculate the real prices with slippage)

A few million dollars isn't really that much money. Given the potential future value of the coin he does hold, I'm fairly confident in his borrowing ability, and therefore his ability to come up with the coin. I'm still pretty bullish on pirate repaying.

I've had orders on the GLBSE book for various PPT issues, on both the bid & ask sides, and have seen very little movement, or volume. Pirate is not purchasing his own debt at a discount in any significant way AFAICT. People suggesting he's doing this have clearly not researched what they're saying.

Thank you for this assessment.  One of the better opinions in this debate giving an alternative way to look at it.  Kudos
1895  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: August 28, 2012, 03:44:38 PM
so.... people are seriously still using this service?

u guys know the owner owes 100k's of BTC in a seperate obvious scam?

And we should care... why?

And this is the problem of or lack thereof community.   Yes you should care.   Why you ask?  Because the person who knows someone who did something bad and still chooses to support them in a way could potential exhibit the same type of behavior.   Your reputation is important and saying you don't even care and don't know why is a statement that can be very telling.   Also empathy is a human trait.
I don't see how GPUMax can really be that heavily related to BS&T. Even if it is, I was one of the most vocal people in warning others about putting their money into a black box. If they went ahead and threw their money away that's their own idiocy.

The most I'm ever risking on GPUMax is a few days mining revenue, if it shut down tomorrow and I didn't get paid, I'd lose a total of maybe a few hours of my regular salary...

First off, its a known fact that Pirate controls both and I believe they play or played an integral part of his operation.   You are right, that is there own idiocy BUT, we should still care if people are being misled or ripped off.    This is why, we are Bitcoin (the people who use it), if we are to have no external regulation then we are left to depend on self-regulation, this means that we "have" to care or it will just become filled with all kinds of lawless behavior (like a pirate if you may) to the point it will become death knell to this project.   Yes there is personal responsibility stressed at the paramount but we need to all pitch in and flush out any and all scammers to set precedent.

I just want to say here that notme deserves a lot of credit for how he handled his passthrough (he paid back his subaccounts out of his own pocket). Kudos to him, man. That's not the kind of integrity you see everyday, much less on the internet.

1900  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is BTCTS (Pirate) considered to be in default? on: August 27, 2012, 06:14:00 PM
Pirate is in default.  He could ask for redemption and work towards a settlement where his creditors would get something less that 100 cents on the dollar for their debt claim.  I do hope he does write that book he mentioned.   So many unanswered questions.
