1906  Economy / Economics / Re: Was Bitcoin actually just a Pump and Dump? on: November 04, 2014, 01:34:51 PM
I do not think Bitcoin was designed as a pump and dump but certainly anything with money behind it is open to manipulation. The jump above $1k in such a short time frame definitely feels like a pump though.

1911  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin as a Retirement Account on: October 29, 2014, 05:42:49 PM
Yeah, this would not be wise. This locks you into one specific type of investment with no way to make modifications to your portfolio or take out a loan on your retirement account should you need to.

Interesting. Unfortunate to see such actions happen due to these legal reasons.
1913  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Is Not Rebounding,why? on: October 29, 2014, 04:47:56 PM
I think a lot of this stems from merchants dumping their bitcoins for fiat instantly on sale. We have more merchants than we did in the past and therefore more sell off which lowers the price. Hopefully bitcoin becomes more than a pathway to fiat for merchants which will increase its value and demand.

1915  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin slowly dying out? on: October 29, 2014, 04:41:38 PM
I don't think bitcoin is dying out. Adoption is growing and you can spend bitcoins a lot more places now. I think one of the issues is merchants dumping their bitcoin for fiat. Increasing number of merchants equals more selling off of bitcoins as people spend them.
1916  Economy / Gambling / Re: dice.ninja - Now with Plinko! on: October 29, 2014, 04:37:06 PM
anything wrong with offering 1.56% house edge? (higher than 1%, but lower than satoshi dice's 1.9%.) and matching kelly.

No, but why would anyone play your 1.56% edge game when there are reputable 1% edge games available?

Almost nobody plays satoshidice any more, because they don't want to pay double the house edge of the other games. Why put yourself at a disadvantage?

Yeah. If your site is offering a unique gambling style that is not offered by other reputable sites with a lower house edge, you can probably get away with it assuming people really enjoy the site. Or perhaps you are offering other incentives to players such as promotions etc that pay back some of that edge to the players.
