1901  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you leave gambling if your future wife/husband tells you to do this ? on: October 27, 2023, 10:09:29 AM
This is why it is good to share your likes and dislikes, your hubby and everything that makes you happy with your spouse to be, before entering into marriage. If you have habits that are hard to stop like gambling, smoking, alcoholic, die hard fan of a particular sport, it's good to be sincere and tell your partner before saying "i do". If the partner doesn't like what you do or share in what really makes you happy, then it's best to reconsider entering the marriage. Because little details that one might  overlook will became a big problem tomorrow in the marriage. So if your partner is OK with your gambling before entering into marriage, then that is an agreement that should be honoured, but if a spouse suddenly starts hating the gambling after entering marriage, then it'll have to come down to dialogue and making compromises. If the spouse presents reasonable facts to leave  gambling, then it's best to consider and leave it, so that peace can reign in the home. But the partner that doesn't want gambling has to exercise patience and have tolerance,, because it's not easy to just leave a habit overnight.

1904  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is Gambling Generally An Illicit Activity? on: October 26, 2023, 05:35:18 PM
I don't think that it is fair to categorize gambling with drug trafficking and embezzlement, because gambling is a game where you try your luck to win or lose. Whereas drug trafficking and embezzlement are crimes anywhere in the world, so there are no comparison between them and gambling. Even if gambling is illegal in a country, it could be on the ground of morals, not it being an illicit activity. If you call someone a gambler, it could mean that the person is a risk taker, but if you call someone a drug trafficker or an embezzler that means that you're calling the person a criminal. So there meanings are totally different.

Although drug traffickers and people who embezzle money can claim that the source of their enormous wealth is from gambling, because gambling is a place where people can get lucky and became millionaires overnight. It is easy to claim that massive wealth is gotten from gambling and people can easily believe it, unless the individual is investigated.
1905  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Beware of this new scamming methods on: October 25, 2023, 03:55:20 PM
Thanks OP for sharing these experiences, because scammers are now like wolves in sheep's clothinga to deceive unsuspecting victims. I guess that it's best to see every acquittance on the internet as potential scammers, this thoughts will help to keep our brains on the alert and lookout for any signs of scam during interactions. Sometimes family and friends will ignorantly share links from unknown sources to their loved ones, that promises different enticing offers, when you clique on the link, you'll be asked different personal questions, eventually you'll be directed to a phishing link. So it's also very important to verify the authenticity of links sent by trustworthy people, before attempting to engage in it.
1906  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: how far we would have gone without CEX in our bitcoin in Nigeria on: October 25, 2023, 08:31:48 AM
You topic de very interesting because na debate for several discussions about di importance and relevance of CEX for crypto transactions. I don even take am start thread for economic section inside main board https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5462408.msg62661873#msg62661873 . The way wey i see am exchanges na unavailable middlemen for bitcoin transactions, for inside Nigeria, and for everywhere in the world. But as your focus na Nigeria, me i go say di exchanges de help reduce scams wey de for p2p transactions, because as bitcoin no get any centralized authority or office wey you go report to if person scam you for inside, no authority wey go help you trace di fraudulent transaction. And as e be say yahoo 419 plenty for di country, we need di exchanges to de reduce di chances of dem scams. Aldo if alternative de to bypass di CEX dem to de do transactions wey chances of scam no go de, me i for like am because bitcoin transactions suppose de decentralized, but as e be so we no get much choice, but to rely on exchanges wey get reputation to reduce scams..

For di second matter wey you raise about why off topics de plenty for dis our board, i believe say di solution na to give us sub boards wey go accommodate oda none related topics to bitcoin.
1907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you prepare for a Bitcoin bull run? on: October 24, 2023, 08:16:10 PM
Up to this time everything regarding how the impact of bull run will be after the halving is all predictions until it happens, nobody really knows how high the price of bitcoin will go.  But one thing that we have control over is how we prepare for it, so this is the perfect time to start accumulating bitcoin. Even if the expected ATH does not reach our expectations, at least we're still sure that bull run is coming after halving. The most important thing for now still remains to be accumulating bitcoin, and making sure that we still have total control of our wallets, as the OP has emphasized.

I'm also happy that the adoption of bitcoin is increasing with it's acceptance by established firms and countries. This will accelerate the demand for ibitcoin and the effect will be price increase that will further drive the bull run.
1908  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A Lady Cried After Losing to Sports Bet. Gambling is Not Your Mate. on: October 24, 2023, 07:11:38 AM
Except the lady wants to trend with her crying about loosing money in gambling, if not, then it goes to show that she's an amateur gambler. A real gambler will not cry over a lose in gambling, because it's to be expected that it's either you win or lose. The casinos and bet companies wants you to loose as much as you want to win, and your win is a lose to them. They don't cry publicly when they pay out winnings, neither should the gambler cry out publicly when the casinos earn their money after they lose.

I also agree that gambling is not for the faint hearted, who get into depression after a lose, because it can affect their mental well being. It is for people who can withstand the pressure and heartbreak of loosing, who are able to move on after a lose. It is advisable that people should prepare their minds before gambling, to accept the outcome of it, whether win or lose.

If it was an important amount of money, I would personally never judge anyone for crying because of such loss at the hands of bad luck. You are correct when you say that any responsible gambler is not supposed to cry over a loss, since they are all supposed to measure their bets and gambling before carry them out.
This woman was the typical novice gambler who did not thought about the consequences of their actions. Even if she won, I would dare to say she would have lost that money eventually anyways, by continuing to bet or gamble, believing she has got infinite good luck in her hands.

It's true that we don't need to judge people when they cry publicly after a big loss, because it's natural to express such inner pains of having bad luck. But  some cries don't really deserve sympathy, especially when the person crying knows the consequences of their deeds and goes ahead to do it. Although they can cry all they want, still what is gone can not return back to them, this is why the importance of taking into account the risks involved in gambling before engaging in it can not be overemphasized. Gambling is based on luck, in fact the way I see it, there are more chances of loses than winnings. I hope the woman learns her lessons about the way gambling works, the next time she decides to stake her money.

I agree with you that without discipline and adequate knowledge about gambling, the money won in it will eventually be lost in it, because greed of wanting to win more will drive the gambler to loose everything.
1909  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advice to friend for financial improvement. on: October 23, 2023, 05:04:22 PM
I think that the main focus here is that it's best to forgo some of our secondary and luxury needs and invest the money that we can use to purchase these needs. When the investment starts to yield profit, then you can conveniently purchase the needs and your investment capital will most likely be yielding more profit. So as we're focusing on bitcoin as an investment option, i think that it is a good place to invest, because despite it's fluctuations of price pump and dump, where the investor will experience loses sometimes, it however has a high probability of being very profitable if you hold on a long term. Because perfect opportunities will always come by after waiting for bull runs and the investor can cash in on the profit to buy what  they've forgone to invest in bitcoin, whether it's iPhone or any other commodities.

Bureau de change: this system go totally phase out, because you no need to convert your money to dollars before you go fit to make international payments, na just to transfer bitcoin, directly from your wallet to your customers abroad.
This is already happening there are many online merchants that are accepting Bitcoin as a medium of exchange and it's growing rapidly. Yes the benefits of using Bitcoin outweigh that of USD but there are people who still they use USD and them dey enjoy am so this thing na all about individual preference I don't think Bitcoin would completely take over but Bitcoin go reach a stage where it being an option go become very rampant.

Na di idea be dat say make people get currency wey dem no go de worry about how dem wan take exchange an to anoda currency. Di decentralization of bitcoin, go gradually de eliminate di services of bureau de change, di coin no get any centralized identity, na to comot from one Wallet enter anoda wallet. Di only thing wey de hold bitcoin, be say di adoption never reach everywhere finish, if in di nearest future majority of people come get bitcoin wallets, no matter anywhere in di world wey you do business, na to by pass currency exchangers and make direct payments. At least by dat time people go fit to make choice weda dem wan use cryptocurrency or fiat currency to take make international payments.

1913  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Btc fit to replace USD as the currency to take make international payments on: October 22, 2023, 12:49:29 PM
United states dollars, na im be di recognized and preferred currency to take make payments for international transactions. Anywhere for dis world na di currency dem de take de evalueate  dem local currency, example, inside Nigeria, na dollar we de take know di present value of naira. As Chinese economy take de strong reach, na dollars our importers de take make foreign exchange payments for dem instead of yen. Dollar na one country centralized fiat currency, and di whole world recognize am as di currency wey dem de take make payments for international transactions, so what about bitcoin wey de decentralized, and no country get autonomy over am. E de beta say dem suppose de use bitcoin wey de decentralized, for forex payments, instead of dollar wey de centralized. Bellow I go list some advantages wey i feel say bitcoin, get pass dollars for international payments matter.

1. Bureau de change: this system go totally phase out, because you no need to convert your money to dollars before you go fit to make international payments, na just to transfer bitcoin, directly from your wallet to your customers abroad.

2. Convenience: if you go for marina, for Lagos island, you go see as hundreds of people de queue, something's de fight for line because dem wan  buy dollar. Bitcoin go eliminate di stress of fighting to buy dollars.

3. Banks as intermediaries: no need for dat one again, na to just run direct bitcoin p2p or through exchanges.

4. Multipurpose: as you de use bitcoin to make international payments, even wen you travel go another country, you no need to exchange bitcoin to dem local fiat to take purchase commodities, na to de spend bitcoin de go.

5. No barrier: bitcoin no get any centralized authority wey de control am , unlike dollar wey be USA private property.

Aldo di disadvantages wey follow bitcoin be say people and countries never adopt am finish and im still de new, compared to dollars wey don stand the test of time. Me I de hopeful say one day  bitcoin adoption go reach every corner of di world and based on say im de decentralized, im go be di best option for foreign exchange international transaction payments. How una see am?

1915  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can Gambling affect your relationship? on: October 21, 2023, 10:27:21 AM
You know what they say that success is everybody's friend but failure is a bastard, so if you're a gambler and you're making fortunes from gambling, at the same time making out quality time to be with loved ones, believe me you'll hardly have a problem with their relationship. Especially when you're responsible in meeting up with your financial obligations without making any excuses. I think that the reason why some gamblers might have issues in their relationship is mainly because they give excuses in their financial obligations, if there's nothing to show for all the efforts that they put in gambling.

Another reason why gambling can affect relationships is because it is associated with addiction and people who are addicted to gambling don't always heed to reasoning, they're main focus and happiness is on the gambling that they're addicted to. In the long run the habit can affect their relationship because of the priority put on gambling over relationship.

1917  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What if the internet permanently shuts down on: October 20, 2023, 07:54:35 PM
I'd love to be enlightened better on why it can be impossible that the internet can never be permanently shutdown, having in mind the shortcomings that I've mentioned?
We would have considered what you just inquired about, the global internet shutting down if everyone on the planet uses the same network provider. In this instance, though, it would be impossible for us to begin making such assumptions because each nation has its own network providers that offer internet connectivity to its citizens.

The only place where the internet would ever shut down would be a nation at war. Whereby internet service providers to those nations at war opt to quit the nation because of the conflict

It's comforting to note that the permanent shutdown of the internet might not be possible because it's transmissions are not from a single source. Each country has their own network provider, therefore if one shuts down, it'll not affect the connections of other countries. Another innovation is that if a total shutdown of the internet were to happen, i don't think that it'll last long before it is repaired and restored back, because we have intelligent minds that'll go to work and make sure of the Restoration.

Although i don't like to use the word impossible in today's world, because technological advancements have proven things that were only imagined before now to be a reality today. So it's not fiction to imagine the possibilities of the internet to shutdown worldwide, factors like world war or phenomenon beyond our comprehension can occur to make these possible. But my firm believe is that so far stored information are not affected, repairs are possible and and the world will move on after any setback.

1919  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tips on staying responsible. on: October 20, 2023, 04:52:50 PM
The watchword here is discipline, because if you have it then you're in control of your decisions. Without having a financial discipline, people tend to over indulge in the fun or habit of gambling, not knowing when to take a break or call it quit for that time. As far as they're winning they'll keep playing, they'll only realize how far they've gone when they've spent all their money, after many loses.

Just like they say in alcoholic beverages, drink responsibly, the same thing applies in gambling, so far you know when you've reached that limit to call it a day, then it's all good. So for gambling i agree with the submissions of some members on this topic that it's better to have a budget for gambling before you start, and I add to it that the individual should be disciplined enough not to exceed the gambling budget.
1920  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am 19 years old boy living in South korea. Please give me an advice on: October 20, 2023, 02:37:51 PM
Now is not late to start investment in bitcoin, you just need to have an accurate knowledge of it. These knowledge will help to guide you in your decisions about putting your money into bitcoin. Example is that bitcoin is volatile, meaning that it's price fluctuates, so there's no 100% guarantee that the price will continue to rise to your expectations in the future. Although there's high probability that it's price will always increase, that is why you've been told to invest money that you can afford to loose, so you don't start to panic when you start to experience price dump.

Investment is a secondary need, so you have to first consider your income or allowance to carter for these basic needs first, like food, shelter and transportation before thinking of investment. Because it'll be a bad investment plan when you barely have enough to carter for these needs and you're talking of investing a part of it. The aftermath will be not meeting up with the payments, which will eventually make you to resort to borrowing and being a debtor. But if you can carter for these basic needs and still have money left, then investment in bitcoin is a good plan.
