You are missing the point of what he said. He and I meant that the Venn diagram of people who are die-hard libertarians and people who believe in Bitcoin looks like a slightly blurry circle. Everyone blames all the faults in Bitcoin on external forces but never Bitcoins themselves, just like Libertarians do "X only fails because the market isn't free ENOUGH", etc.

Both have big flaws but no one here can admit that.

Also, this forum has a huge contingency of the "dumb but always think they are right" variety (e.g., you) that continuously make big mistakes again and again and drive away anyone with an ounce of sense.

Watching this community slowly go from "anarcho-capitalist" to slowly re-inventing every financial institution that we use in the real world has been pretty funny though, for the insane irony of it all.

Bitcoin has it's fault's but only because people are to stupid to adapt to it's most basic requirements. But once again you still don't get it do you? I can tell the majority of the people who post demanding for new features and/or usability don't get it.

IT'S OPEN SOURCE.

If you think something about Bitcoins sucks then CHANGE IT. If you don't care enough to change it, then ask yourself this question. Why are you here?
The product has to meet the requirements of the people. Not the other way around.
What your "requirements" that haven't been met?

EDIT: I want to know because I sincerely want to help you if you think some "requirements" haven't been met.

Bitcoin is not Libertarian, Liberal, Conservative, Progressive, Democrat, Republican, Christian, Muslim, or JEW.

Ok, all I said was Libertarians like bitcoins. I don't see what your problem is with that. What I do think is your putting to much of a value on the community aspect of bitcoin. Guess what, there isnt any. Just a bunch of sharks swimming around chatting with each other waiting for the next meal.

Now, what I do find offensive is your use of "JEW" next time you write a line like that use Hebrew. Kind of makes you sound like a racist there.

Wasn't even replying to you...
Was mostly talking to JEFFK sorry you got included in the quote...

I really do hope this forum dies. Not because I don't like some of you here ( I really really do) but because it has been literally over run by clowns/trolls/ and spammers who don't give 2 shits about this project or anyone else in our community. They have taken optimal advantage of the relaxed moderation in this forum, and have probably even hurt the prices of Bitcoins through their constant of cyber bullying and over inflamed misinformed postings. It has become a JOKE, and you can clearly see why the developers took this off their project site...

That man was not someone you wanted to do business with at all. All he was interested in was taking your money and getting attention.
I don't care what he was after, but the attack against him was vicious and didn't even come from within this community...

Then ignore the outside influence and move on.
The outside influence is trying to destroy this currency and everyone involved...
Bitcoins are going south just fine on their own. People grumbling in forums is not something responsible adults pay attention to.

One of the cornerstones of faith in Bitcoins and/or Libertarianism is that everyone has to take blame for their faults except for the ideas themselves.
STOP

JEFFK for the LOVE OF GOD, BITCOIN AND LIBERTARIANISM ARE NOT SYNONYMOUS.
You are misrepresenting the entire community when you say these things.
They go hand in hand. Bitcoin is a Libertarians wet dream. Thats not to say a Liberal or a Conservative cant own them but its the Libertarians that get the biggest rise out of them.
Bitcoin is no ones. It doesn't belong to any ideology/ race/ religion/ group/ or country. Why is that so hard to understand? It simply just is, and you could take a progressive liberal approach to them (by taxing large transactions through government run nodes) , or you can take a totally anarchistic approach by remaining completely anonymous, and steering away from large transactions or anything that raises flags! My point here is that Bitcoin literally is YOU. It being open source gives the ability for any government or individual to put the restrictions or limitations in place that THEY see fit. Open source also allows people to improve on the existing system as well, so if you don't like something you can easily CHANGE IT.

Bitcoin is not Libertarian, Liberal, Conservative, Progressive, Democrat, Republican, Christian, Muslim, or Jew.

Bitcoin simply just is, and it's highly offensive and disingenuous to title and/or brand it as anything other than what it is,

A decentralized P2P digital currency that has a capped rate of creation, that can't be duplicated or destroyed. It is the purest form of Internet cash that we have available today as human beings.
1925  Economy / Speculation / Re: Largest weekend discount so far :) on: August 07, 2011, 06:25:22 AM
Bill, it is possible, only one thing should happen to make the price 15 - everybody holding the USD now should start buying. Right now is the time when BTCs are changing hands from panicky kids to steelballed pros Smiley Of course, the price can go lower. Not much lower than now, though.

My estimate total BTCs sold on the way down was ~100,000, so that makes it 1 million in fiat money at average price $10 which are now in MtG. There are a little over 6,000 coins left for sale now on MtG, with a *total* price of 50k USD. If money start buying, demand would overwhelm supply.
I have a big feeling that money is leaving MtGox to peoples own bank accounts. I think people are fed up and done. Might follow its usual path of a spike followed by a bigger drop like a rubber ball going down wooden stairs.
Proof to backup your claim that people are withdrawing money?

I'll also answer you but I see no reason to as it makes no matter but I read or have read everything from the Bible, Atlas Shrugged, 1984, tons of history, to modern daily publications from the primary papers and such like NYT, Washington Post, WSJ and so forth and of course as any good BTC miner and good geek should, Daniel Suarez. Pleasure reading I don't do much in the way of books anymore but I read the entire Foundation series starting at 15 and by 18 had gone through Lord of the Rings at least twice not to mention all of Orson Scott Card's Ender and Dune series then over to some Clancy and Ludlum. As to what's on the TV, not much. It may be on but I am rarely paying attention as the quality of what they call entertainment or news is pathetic. I will hit CNBC, MSNBC and Fox in the AM, mainly CNBC and MSNBC, on Sunday I catch This Week but other than that it's on as background noise or playing something for the kids, or maybe I've got Netflix running (It Crowd). I'd say you won't find many people as rounded in what I have covered either through school or for pleasure earlier in my life and now with less time for reading anything not job related I find I tend to try and catch things on audio book, lots of listing to old CBS radio, Sherlock Holmes and other mystery stuff and of course probably 12 hours a week of various tech podcast (thank you Audacity and change tempo, BTW anyone know a tool to batch podcast tempo change).

"I've read the full works of Ayn Rand plus several right-wing authors and the Bible. I guess you could say I'm well-rounded!"

Good Lord. No wonder you think anything to the left of Rush Limbaugh is pratically communist. You've never spend two seconds listening to anything anyone on the left has ever said outside of centrist politicians and their empty platitudes. Thanks for answering, I guess, but seriously that is about as far from well-rounded as you can get. You have no concept of anything to the left of a Democrat because you don't even know it exists. That's actually really sad, and a testament to power of modern American propaganda.
+1
I am well versed in conservative literature and ideology. Most of their ideology consists on if's and maybes and no actual problem solving.

Here's a brief example,

Maybe IF we give the richest people in America all their money back maybe they'll create jobs for the less fortunate!
Maybe IF we get rid of social welfare programs like commie food-stamps, and socialist medicare people will finally get jobs with the money that we gave to the rich people!
Maybe IF these people are now able to get mediocre jobs from their working overloads, we can get then shove them into a nice house with a variable interest rates and these people will finally be living the America dream!
Maybe IF we kick every single illegal immigrant out of this country, all of a sudden lazy Americans will get up and start doing these "crappy" jobs that all these illegal immigrants are more than happy to perform...
Maybe IF we start a war with this country, all their people will love us and we will bring freedom to that part of the world thus making new investors who will buy into our crap!

God I could go on for about 5 hours. People conservatism/hardcore libertarianism is all about hypothetical voodoo ideology that has been proven NOT TO WORK , and nothing about actually FIXING PROBLEMS. Which is why when America let these Tea Baggers back into the house of representatives, and 8 months later we are going BACK to another recession, and have created 0 jobs since they have been obstructing everything that the president suggests.

So this has been the largest weekend dump in the history of bitcoins Smiley I'm sending more moneys in tomorrow, using little math skills you can figure that there's enough fiat now in MtGox to drive the price right back past 15...

Disclaimer - currently in BTCs bought in at ~8.

15 eh? uh huh... How many time have I heard something like this before.
He's right, and it CAN happen.
1932  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is NOT ready for mainstream because of 4 major problems on: August 07, 2011, 05:58:06 AM
I think it will take a while for bitcoin to mature, but at least i know where to look to measure the progress
The most obvious problem is functionality. If PayPal decided to start taking Bitcoins tomorrow the price would go up to $50, because they have the usability and functionality to facilitate to dummy's. If we had that no one could stop us... (BitWal). However after what just happened with Mybitcoin I highly doubt anyone in this community is in the mood to support a wallet website. Money talks like with everything else, we are all early adopters now... What does this mean? It means it's up to us to make shit happen and money can make a secure wallet site (identical to paypal in security/and customer service) happen. I have already seen a few more ewallets pop up, but none have impressed me yet and are probably all scams...

1935  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is NOT ready for mainstream because of 4 major problems on: August 07, 2011, 05:25:03 AM
In May bitcoin received a lot of publicity and many non tech people got involved, unfortunately, despite how brilliant the abstract idea, it was and it is still not ready for use by average consumer, someone using bitcoin at least have to know how NOT to trust a someone on the internet and have secure setup to store wallet. I think right now the next four problems stand on the way of wide bitcoin adoption, but it will take years to get established solutions

1.Creating a way to transfer funds into bitcoin system that would compete with credit card or PayPal in terms of convenience, e.g. you just need to sign up for credit card to start using it for payments.

2.Safe and secure e-wallet or lightweight bitcoin client for smartphone to use on the go, capable of making instant transfer to use in store or to buy something from vending machine, etc. Something like green address or MtGox QR voucher

3.Privacy and anonymity is important for long and short term survival of bitcoin. De-anonymizing process should be made not cost effective by implementing a method that would enforce use of one address per transaction and having sophisticated algorithm to select inputs and outputs for transaction to prevent consolidation. Enforce use of some form of proxy for bitcoin client to hide IP address.

4.Development of flexible software rather then all in one "take it or leave it" client, and eco system that would take advantage from it.

1. This can be made by you or anyone else in the community. I actually own Bitwal.com so if you want to invest in a secure payment system lets do it...

2. Fixing problem one would automatically fix problem 2.

3. Bitcoin is only as anonymous as you make it. If you log in with a public computer on tor network it will be almost impossible for someone to find you...

4. A better/flexible wallet can once again be written by anyone in the community.

What part of OPEN SOURCE do people not understand? If we want something done we can't wait around for other people to do it, because once again it's OPEN SOURCE.
1936  Other / Meta / Re: What Happened to Matthew N. Wright? on: August 07, 2011, 05:19:06 AM
he has been lurking for the past few days, after he was exposed as being a home schooled clown with a GED and a degree mill diploma.

I know he has been reading the board because I had my avatar as an image of him that I found on a public website and he reported me for a copyright violation.

the current image I use as my avatar was completely hand drawn and is copyrighted by me  Cool
He sounded to me like a nice guy, that was seriously attacked by SA nerds. He seriously just presented his idea at a terrible time when nobody wanted to listen. Sound like he was trying to take advantage of the whole mybitcoin.com debacle. Regardless, I hope he doesn't give up because a few nerds on the Internet wouldn't play nice with him.
1937  Economy / Economics / Re: Looking for an explanation for 'Father Currency' Theory on: August 07, 2011, 05:07:59 AM
Same thing is true for the internet. The internet only has 4 billion IPs, so it can't possibly work as a global communication network. But something like the internet is bound to gain some traction.
IPV6 will fix that limit.
1938  Economy / Economics / Re: USA Credit Rating downgraded from AAA to AA+ by S&P. Who are S&P? on: August 07, 2011, 05:07:12 AM
Going by this the USA must be a C or maybe even a D because I don't know how that dept can be paid back

P.S..  Pre President Johnson America was a great country that has a real direction.. So I'm not anti USA..

We can pay it back because we can print more money (only because we are the reserve currency of the world) and our GDP (for now) is strong enough to pay it back.

World stops using USD as reserve currency = were fucked

GPD goes down (aka: recession) = we take longer to pay it back.
The world talks big, but if the dollar tanks so do they. Who do you think is buying up all our debt? Theres a reason why BTC is trading at $7 right now and not $50...
1939  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will reach 5-6 dollars within 1-2 months on: August 07, 2011, 05:04:32 AM

Whats crazy is it can go up just as fast..
1940  Economy / Speculation / Re: Its gonna be one hell of a ride once the rally kicks off on: August 07, 2011, 04:39:15 AM
Well, it's what you want to do in an up and down market.

Too bad this market is going down. You'll be able to have all the btc in the world... but they'll be worth 0 USD
They have never been worth 0 though..

They will when you can't sell them.
I mean even before the pump and dump they were worth way more.. You have this theory that they are going back to 0USD, yet you have no way to back that up.
