1921  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Doing both CPU and GPU mining on a machine? on: October 09, 2017, 08:18:40 PM
Pretty much a silly idea.  Not sure why you would want to stress a CPU for .20 cents a day....

Even my older FX 8320e CPUs manage more like 50 cents/day on Monero (they're pretty close on hashrate to the octo-core Ryzen parts due to similar clock and cache size).

1922  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Older Motherboard for DDR3? on: October 09, 2017, 08:15:47 PM
Any AM3+ motherboard supports DDR3.

Most of my rigs use the ASRock 970 Extreme 4 (which supports up to 5 cards using risers for 2 or more of them), but availability has been getting spotty on those of late.

The ASUS and Biostar mining motherboards have good reps, but finding low-cost CPUs to put in them is getting to be a problem as Socket 1150 CPUs have been out of production for a while now.
To be fair, AMD seems to have shut down production of most of their FX series CPUs as well but the supply "in the channel" is still pretty good.

1923  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gridseed blade 80 chip scrypt miner - what are these errors? on: October 09, 2017, 08:10:11 PM
freq at 850 is probably causing you a LOT of hardware errors.
Those miners were "stock" at 700 but THAT was already a fairly hefty overclock, and tended to overstress the power delivery system.

1924  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX 1070 24/7 mining lifespan? on: October 09, 2017, 08:08:36 PM
EVGA normally uses good dual ball bearing fans in their cards, so they SHOULD last a long time even at 100%.

On the other hand, pushing them that hard to keep the card under 60C is overkill - card should last quite a few years at 70C, and your fans will last a LOT longer at 80% or less of max.

1925  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Why the big mining pools use GPU on: October 09, 2017, 08:04:36 PM
I was wondering why the big boys like genesis mining do GPU mining instead of ASIC mining why you guys think? may be less profitable but more reliable in the long term?

Why do you ASSUME that the "big boys" only do GPU mining?

1926  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: graphic card nvidia gtx 750 ti 4go and mining on: October 09, 2017, 08:03:31 PM
i ask about graphic card nvidia gtx 750 ti 4go

how many i get by day in $

which the best altcoins to mine it Smiley

It's a viable Monero miner, should pull about 250 hash/sec

Not sure if it's worth trying to mine anything else offhand.

1927  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS MINING-RX470-4G on: October 09, 2017, 08:01:26 PM
Sure it's not STOCK. This card default run at ~23.x Mh/s. For 28.x Mh/s you have to modify the BIOS as I mentioned above.

For your concern about part/build quality I have to say : Slightly yes.

I got my hand on 2 mining cards : ASUS MINING-RX470-4GB (Hynix) and ZOTAC P106-100-6GB (Samsung) and they both "look cheaper" than normal gaming card.

As opposed to the Sapphire "mining cards" which appear to be standard Nitro parts with the video circuitry and connectors removed (except for one DVI connector on SOME models), and the mounting bracket changed.

Mine even still have the "Nitro" stickers on the fans....

1928  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Remove Thermal Throttling (R9 290 Gigabyte Windforce) on: October 09, 2017, 07:57:51 PM
If it uses a reference board design, try flashing it with a undervolt BIOS from TheStilt.

Bitcoin Gold

What will happen after all miners go to btg
and mine the coin normal users will again struggle to get a grip of a coin
what is you opinion on this and views

This should be in the altcoin section.
1930  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Rx 480 on: October 09, 2017, 07:52:11 PM
This should go to the Altcoin section, GPUs have been worthless for Bitcoin mining for YEARS.
1931  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Hurricane Fan to Move 1000 CFM and Ventilation Questions on: October 09, 2017, 07:48:53 PM
It's me again.  UPDATE: 2 of 5 Avalon 741 miners up and running just to learn.  I tried 3 and basement became ridiculously hot, so I will wait until my wine closet is ready and properly ventilated before I get all 5 miners going.  I'm now working on ventilation while I wait for the electrician.  Since I'm putting 5 miners into a small space, I have decided to go with this method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=317wqakIKx8 (if you don't want to watch, my short description is below).

Basically, I will attach insulated duct work to all 5 miners.  I will run those 5 ducts into a larger tube with a hurricane fan on top.  The fan will push the hot air out of my house.  I'm reluctant to use PVC as the "larger" tube because (from what I've read) it can deform at high levels of heat.  Anyway, here are my questions:

1)  Does anyone have experience with this Hurricane fan?  Do you like it?  How noisy is it? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hurricane-Inline-Fan-12-in-1060-CFM-736590-Commercial-Grade-High-Performance-/302461946006?epid=1007520736&hash=item466c230896:g:v9MAAOSwVaVZxCny

2) For my "main tube" I was thinking of duct taping a bunch of y-joints together (http://www.homedepot.com/b/Heating-Venting-Cooling-HVAC-Parts-Accessories-Ducting-Venting-Transitions-Connectors-Wyes/N-5yc1vZc5hq) and then running my 5 insulated miner ducts to the y joints?  Is this a good idea?

Thanks in advance for you thoughts.

Steve

PVC has limited heat tolerance, which is why it's limited to use on COLD water distribution.
CPVC had much higher heat tolerance, it's rated to handle hot water - but it might STILL be marginal at the temps that come out of most miners today.

4000 CFM is severe overkill for 5 Avalon 741 units - something in the 1000-1500 CFM range would be PLENTY, unless you plan to add a LOT MORE MINERS to that space.

1932  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalons available RIGHT NOW!!!! on: October 09, 2017, 07:44:13 PM
https://canaan.io/official-distributors/

 Seems definitive.

Minerwarez should fix their site to say "an official Caanan distributor" not "the official Caanan distributor" though.

1933  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: EWBF's CUDA Zcash miner on: October 09, 2017, 07:35:21 PM
What's this guys setup?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0n7RgO9s98
.. at 4:18 it shows a Hashrate of 97.4 Mh/s with 31123 Active Miners?   .. And active workers 86184??  omg or did he just do this as a test?

btw.. I do not see the "Price" at the end for this page.

That's the POOL status, not one individual farm.

1934  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Downgrade Driver - Catalyst (Crimson) 15.12 on: October 09, 2017, 07:31:33 PM
use this to uninstall any video card drivers AMD or NV , it works better then some of the paid version at it's level and i would uninstall them in safe mode .

http://www.wagnardmobile.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=700

direct download link from AMD's site for the Catalyst (Crimson) 15.12

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/previous/detail?os=Windows%2010%20-%2064&rev=15.12

Like  eckmar  say use the newest drivers and I 'll take it another step that's bad advice claymore gives on what drivers to use because some cards are not supported by the Catalyst (Crimson) 15.12 and those drivers can be the main problem in some cases and tomorrow if what I read is right there is a new drivers releases coming form AMD that will be awesome . but well see tomorrow .

And drivers do matter in how they run the cards they power and the software those cards run .

Does this Catalyst (Crimson) 15.12 driver work with RX 480?

No, they were released AFTER the 15.12 drivers were.

I recommend the 16.9.2 WQHL driver for the RX 4xx series cards, it also works reasonable well with most older AMD cards (though there's a couple "holes" in it's support for older cards, noteably the Tahiti based cards like the R9 280x).

Ignore the "blockchain" drivers if you are on Windows 7 - they flat out DON'T WORK on older cards in my limited testing of them.
Seems like AMD ONLY tested them on Windows 10 for some STUPID reason.

1936  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Is Syan a real deal? on: October 09, 2017, 07:05:16 PM
They said 1st batch will actually start at the end of this month.

Last thing I read was it was sold out.

Their site claims to be sold out - but that could be that they have it coded to say that when they have 0 inventory on hand.

1937  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Single Phase and Three Phase Power -amp Question on: October 09, 2017, 07:01:11 PM
Death trap..BULLSHIT....It's perfectly safe...SAFER THAN CODE!
Most electrical fires are from FAULTY PLUGS AND RECEPTACLES..
NEC is just another alphabet bloated incompetent corrupt bureaucracy that does not give shit about safety..
They are about maintaining a monopoly and discouraging self education and independence.
Most code was written in the early 1900's when wires were bare or had cloth coverings..
Code is ONLY to absolve big business from liability and while using cheapest materials possible and ensuring profits for G.E.

I used Hospital grade heavy gauge cables rated for 300V 20amp. ..for power cables..
My load is 60%..
I'm a Physicists...experienced retired EEng and know exactly what I'm doing and WHY it is fine.
Philip no offense you are an inspiration & legend in mining but....
Pardon my french...Stick your corrupt Government dumbing down fear porn propaganda up your ass..

Splices tend to develop intermittant connections due to corruption over time.
They are NOT "safer than code".
I've spent way too much time REPLACING splce connections that FAILED AND CAUSED ISSUES to listen to your ignorance.

Most of the current CODE dates from the 1960s and 1970s with substantial upgrades in every decade since then, not the "1900s".
If you were an ELECTRICIAN you would understand that - and WHY the code is revised and updated with new and changed information every few years.

BTW - GE doesn't sell all that much electrical distribution equipment, Schneider sells a LOT more especially since their buyout of Square D.
GE is a lot bigger in "big unit" power GENERATION equipment like turbines (gas AND water) than in electrical distribution gear.

The Government doesn't write the NEC, nor was The Government responsible for it's creation.
In fact, most regulation on building and wiring is done at State or Local level (MOSTLY LOCAL by cities and counties), and they realized fairly quickly that it was easier cheaper AND PROMOTED BETTER SAFETY to adopt the NEC than it was to try to maintain their own ccodes individually.

Expert at physics does NOT make you an expert at SAFE power distribution.

Many or most electrical fires are caused by BAD CONNECTIONS, sometimes caused by splices that have corroded over the years, sometimes caused by wires getting frayed by wear (like when some utility companies don't "trim back" trees around their power lines on a frequent enough basis, or when someone lets their cat chew on power cords).
Many more are caused by OVERLOADS - which is not the fault of the receptacle or the plug, nor is it the fault of the plug when the wiring at the plug gets frayed by misuse or abuse.

People, what is the best you can do with 1080ti? I get 760sols with my Asus rog strix power limit 106, core clock +160, memory +580.

780 sol/s more or less with my Aorus set to 105 % power limit (250 factory default TDP), +150 core, +100 memory - occasional peaks a hair over 790 but the average was closer to 780.

Higher or lower memory settings LOWERED the hashrate (I noticed the higher settings were causing the core clock to DROP a little in Afterburner monitoring, and that appears to have been hurting hashrate).

1939  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Single Phase and Three Phase Power -amp Question on: October 08, 2017, 06:16:16 PM
Why does everyone over think and try to over-engineer..
It is SOOOOOOO SIMPLE cheap and effective to just do this...

And All 8x S9's Running just fine...Mission accomplished

NOTICE NO PDU NO PLUGS..3x PSU's are connected straight to 220V 30amp line using bare wire and marrets & electric tape.

 Serious code violation, and DANGEROUS.

Not a real good idea even if you KNOW what you are doing.

There is a REASON the NEC is very much ANTI-SPLICE and has been so for a while - as I recall even the old-style "wire nut splice" method is depreciated for new construction in recent versions of the Code, and it's never been considered a "best practice".

Keep in mind that the NEC came about to prevent FIRES, and who is behind it.

1940  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: October 08, 2017, 06:08:08 PM
I am seriously thinking of buying some ASIC's instead of repurchasing GPU's to replace all the ones i lost in the hurricane damage.

Since the L3+ seems to be on infinite backorder unless you know someone or willing to pay to much, is the S9 worth buying right now or just better off waiting? i know very little int he world of ASICs right now...

If anyone wanted to know i assembled my new gamer/personal PC today, AMD Threadripper 1950x, in Awesome Miner benchmarking for CPU mining on XMR using, it averages 1,387 hashrate @ 128watts, not sure why it only says 50% load on all the cores... maybe tweaking is still needed.

Try setting it for 1 thread per 2 MB of cache, that seems to be the sweet spot for XMR mining on CPUs.

To an earlier question - I try to keep my GPUs to 70C or less when the ambient is in the 80F range.
I plan some "rework" of my cooling setup in the current place over the winter to get more airflow through it, and intend to add a 3'd evap unit as well (currently running a pair of Brisa 3004 models "stacked" and have enough room and the proper electrical setup to "stack" a 3'd unit on top of the existing 2).

Most (possibly all) current ASIC miner models have a 200-250 CFM cooling setup. The ones that use 2 fans in a "push-pull" setup do so to deal with high backpressure, doing that improves airflow SOME but is still only going to max out at the airflow rating of the HIGHEST airflow fan.
