1941  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 99% of People Will Lose Crypto in Self Custody on: December 25, 2022, 06:15:43 PM
~snip~
He did say that huh @CZ. I suppose leaving it at centralised exchanges are safe then?
Centralised exchanges can't be half as safe as non custodial wallets. I wonder how people do trust it. The onlyeans to loosing coins from a non custodial wallet is due to a users carelessness. As per either having a bugged device or forgetting of private key or seed phrase and not being private enough as per keys or seed phrase security.

When it comes to centralised exchanges, the only advantage you've got is the password recovery and nothing else. All the above could still play out and even more. Like exchange hacks, mismanagement of funds as seen in FTX, not to mention that, your verified mail address could be hacked, linked and transactions could as well be done from a different device.

I don't want to discredit what his said @CZ but, I'll say users should see it for a warning and apply caution when transacting.
1942  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am I right or wrong on: December 24, 2022, 11:10:51 PM
The government has also bought bitcoins, but secretly because some parties from the government have not agreed 100% with the existence of bitcoins.
But the governments that buy bitcoin see the power of bitcoin itself and try to follow suit before it's too late.
They are the ones who can open themselves up to new things that are happening, which can later be of benefit to the public and themselves.
Possibly but, am yet to see a government that would come out to lay claims to some hodlings except for nations that have fully legalised bitcoin for a legal tender like El-salvador and they continue to increase there crypto portfolio or hodlings up to this moment.
Hopefully, thy light be able to pull this off and continue to hodl until the bull market comes around for a boom. It would be a big boost to there economy for sure.
It would be really a wise choice for other governments of the world to take a page out of the El-salvador scheme and have some hodlings in bitcoin. It's had for them though as, the yet not believe and still seeks means to its end. We still watching how that is coming.
1943  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Will there ever be any safe centralised exchange ? on: December 24, 2022, 11:00:14 PM
Just because Binance have CZ doesn't mean CZ will keep his cool forever, remember that change is the only thing constant in a humans life, anybody can change at any time when it comes to money matter, I like CZ but not when it comes to money so my answer is no single centralized exchange can be trusted.
Apparently that's what it is but, its never an issue until it becomes an issue. FTX never possed a threat until the CEO exercised his right by using the coins left in his charge for his own selfish interest. That's the risk centralised exchanges pose and will continue to pose every other day. One of the first rule of cryptocurrency is being in charge of your own affairs and that's exactly what centralisation takes from you. Centralised exchanges can never be a safe means and that's why, its got a rule to its usage that implores you not to leave majority of your hodlings but that which, you wish to trade.

Changpeng Zhao doing a great job at a top level and we shouldn't blame him for losses on the Binance. CZ and his team are working effortlessly to keeping their exchange moving. There are many things surrounding the insolved problem of CEX, there countless numbers of Fraudsters online tracking to take down CEX with self unknown goals. Binance is the only exchange that weren't affected although hackers tried their best to break the fire wall but not lucky enough due to the strong fire wall the Binance team has.
That's some of the reasons why Binance stays top evey other day. There approach to solving issues and they render quality service to its users. You get to resolve a fault before taking any other trade. There are a lot of benefits  Binance offers and CZ continues to I.prove the site still.
1944  Economy / Economics / Re: Hope for cryptocurrency in Nigeria. on: December 24, 2022, 10:31:59 PM
Ibrahim Babaginda said the banned on cryptocurrency will not only be lifted but will be legalize.
This is the hope for crypto, although I am fairly certain that this will not happen immediately, but will take some times. There are many individuals into crypto in the country already and due to the massive awareness being raised by Forum members who are Nigerians the number of crypto users is increasing. I patiently wait for the period when Crypto will be declared legal for use in Nigeria.
Just like Ibrahim Babaginda has stated, it was an abrupt decision that didn't come by a lot of consideration and deliberation, seeking to end all in a swipe move but of course, that wasn't going to work. CBN and NSEC failed to understand how the cryptocurrency industry works. There irrational decision was only followed by more participation as they ended up creating more awareness and drove people to be more private on there crypto investment/transactions.

The news as we have it now is one that comes from a very thoughtful individual as he not only seeks to lift ban but hopes to understand and find a common ground for proper categorisation and giving legal status to the niche.
1945  Economy / Economics / Re: This could be the biggest news in 2022 on: December 24, 2022, 10:09:29 PM
A good news for cryptocurrency for sure but that's just it. It doenst mean they would be operating on bitcoin or something. That's possible shah, accepting bitcoin deposit in exchange for local fiat currency. Not like they are the central bank or something, they would still function under the central bank regulations.
One thing I am wondering is, if the transaction would be done in bitcoin or they would have to buy fiat and in turn, proceed to  jying the bank as that would mean, flooding the market with coins and that could possibly result in a drop in price.
Other than speculated above, it would create a big business for the bank as local crypto users would flock to using the bank for there crypto transactions.
1946  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Sportsbet.io ⚽ World Cup Fantasy ⚽ 5k in rewards ⚽ Discussion thread on: December 22, 2022, 11:00:46 PM
I'll like to say tbank you to Sportsbet.io for sponsorship, Trofo for making it happen and congratulations to the winners of the fantasy world Cup tournament competition. You guys are amazing and very much teaching the rest of us how we compete good and play the game as well. Despite being new to this although, not to the world of football, I did managed it to some 20 positions behind the required. So not where i had hoped myself to be but, that's what my strategies towards the game got me. Perhaps would have lived to go again with the experiences have gotten thus far but, that would be in another 4years, lol...

Congrats once again to the winners, you guys are definitely making the rest of us better.
1947  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which kind of situation will force you to sell? on: December 22, 2022, 10:49:55 PM
I haven't really come to terms with any particular reason tht my necessitate me selling most or all of my bitcoin hodling. I don't see bitcoin for a failing network and as such, it remains unimaginable still especially, with the network still at an uprise.
I do sell bitcoin alright, even at the present time but its definitely just what I need and when it seems to be just the only option to getting what I need done, done.
Other than that, hodlibg still remains the language and I speak/understand it good too.

Most of us might think it's not easy to hodl and it just might be that if you sole believe but, having a job or some other investments is one way to take your mind off your hodlings.
1948  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Finally got my boss to pay me in Bitcoin on: December 22, 2022, 10:40:25 PM
Taking all your salary in bitcoin is something but, it would be better should you not leave all of them in bitcoin. Perhaps some quick exchange of a portion of that go its fiat equivalent would mitigate for some regrets if it does come to that. The idea has always been, been invest only what you can afford to lose and clearly, your entire salary isn't that.

Assisted him in creating his account
There are no accounts in Bitcoin.

Do you really want your boss to be able to follow your money after he pays you?
A possible likely scenario for a boss that have got time or people with time to do this on a purpose I don't know why should be but won't like. Its definitely a disadvantage to cryptocurrency but not so much an advantage when the government comes looking at some fiat local bank account.
1949  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello Im new in crypto but i have idea on: December 22, 2022, 10:16:17 PM
~snip~
Before I start, I would like to leave you a word of advice. "BE TEACHABLE". What you think you know now, might just be garbage. Just don't be too hesitant to thrash it if need be.

I've tried to pitch my tent on your wall of text but, its not making an all round sense expecally at the last line with the smart guys and you being the judge.

About being an escrow, it seems you just know the word and perhaps have an idea of it but not certainly how it works. You don't just come up and want to be an escrow. The cryptocurrency is a field that functions based on trusts and blockchain verifications. Escorts must of all comes into play when a buyer and seller don't have trust in themselves hence, they sort out some trusted party to act in that regard and clearly, you don't just fit the bill.

The first part of being an escrow is being trusted yourself. Find your path to being trusted and then, you could hope for escrow services.
1950  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Notes on: December 22, 2022, 10:02:52 PM
Not everyone has access to a smartphone and internet.
[...]
Recently, I saw a chap post online about bitcoin denominated cards that have the private key embedded in them.
Let's stop right here. The cards you are talking about, are also referred to as credit-card sized hardware wallets, since the seed is stored on a dedicated hardware device. Cool. Makes a lot of sense and I'm a big fan of hardware wallets myself.
But: by themselves, they're useless. They require a device with internet access to create and broadcast transactions. These devices only sign transactions; they're not standalone. And therefore of no use to someone without internet access and an internet-capable device.
Can't say am familiar with the cards in reference. I guess its not a thing yet in my part of the world but one thing i know for sure is that, the closest you could go with cryptocurrency without Internet is having a cold wallet for storing your bitcoin. Other than that, it was meant to be a digital currency and so, its expected to function in an electronic media or device. Anything other than that and the whole idea would be shattered.

Bitcoin was not to come in notes and shouldn't come in notes. The rest of the world and most of its population is net to be Internet savvy or empowered so, the needs for notes is inevitable and that's why we've got fiats to assist. This is why it's always arguable that, the cryptocurrency innovation isn't one that comes to replace fiat. They are meant to operate separately and efficiently in fitting in certain financial ends of the other.
1951  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet Encryption on: December 22, 2022, 09:43:47 PM
I think you know what your doing @OP and that you itself is good news. It means, you understand that, there could be compromises along the way and sees the need to fix things before it gets out of hand. Although, for this undermined but serious concern, I think it's as easy as already stated in the quote below.
If the repair guy had access to your wallet then for sure your private keys were exposed, so, the best to do should be to generate a new wallet and forget about the old one.
Without any hypothetical thinking or taking any serious risk, make the first move by downloading a fresh wallet and move all your hodlings unto the new wallet. That way, you don't get to bother about compromise as, you might not know to what level of exposure the computer repair guy have got. Zero him out with an entirely new wallet besides, it doesn't cost nothing.
1952  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Risk of jail for developers. Should you be anonymous? on: December 22, 2022, 09:34:17 PM
We're not talking about firearms here, but rather legal (your licenses, jurisdiction and international law) and popular support (public opinion, empathy, demonstrations & consensus).
Speaking of popular opinion and jurisdiction,
Is cryptocurrency or projects anything close to having those?
For the most we know, the population that aren't hooked up with the cryptocurrency or its derivative projects are far less compared to the few of us that have anonymously adopted the system today. How does that go for popular opinion and the government as we all know a several miles away from anything cryptocurrency or its related projects adoption.

The most we've seen is there development of the CBDC as a way to combat cryptocurrency which isn't going so well with them as we know it.

Although, government in the ne of jurisdiction shouldn't make slave or inhibits a person's freewill to 8nbest when it doenst hurt nobody. The harms that might follow from cryptocurrency investments are often due to an investors inability to DYOR.

I don't see developers to be at any risk for putting something out there. That's no crime.
1953  Economy / Economics / Re: Forget a return to office: We’re living in the age of side hustles on: December 21, 2022, 11:04:10 PM
In modern times, people dont depend on a sole job to meet there ends needs no more. You don't get to have or work just one job through the whole time as inflation rocks our world and a sole job isn't going to give anyone the life they desire. This creates the need for side hustles and having multiple streams of incomes.

Side hustle becomes, that job that is expendable, that you do in other to support your actual job.
When a side hustle gains more attention than your actual job, it ain't a side hustle no more. Your actual job becomes the side hustle.

Is hard for one to be tech savvy and not have a side hustle these days. I think it's good and helps hence, most individuals should pick interest.
1954  Other / Off-topic / Re: 🔥🔥After the 2022 World Cup🔥 on: December 21, 2022, 10:41:57 PM

You've picked some great players and am sure the scouts have been watching and at the moment, looking to get some of these players into there squad. Livakovic in particular was one of my personal favourite from this world cup and I was sad to have not seen him win something from the world cup. At least he got his bronze medal with Croatia coming third place in the world cup.

Alexis Mac Allister was also a great player in the Argentine team, Gavi in Spain, Enner Valencia for sure and a few other did leave there mark as its expected in the world cup. I look forward to the teams they would be joining in the January transfer. Hope they make good choices too.
1955  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: December 21, 2022, 10:32:34 PM
Manchester City are not far behind Arsenal at the moment, so it is still very possible for Manchester City to overtake Arsenal at the top of the standings if Arsenal are not consistent enough in the continued matches in the Premier League this season. But I also don't think that Arsenal will change for the worse so that another team can more easily take over their place, because Arsenal this season are also very different from Arsenal last season.
Can't say I haven't missed the EPL with the whole world cup international break. It would be interesting to watch this second phase of the league and what changes that would come to the league following the January transfer window.
As per Arsenal staying consistent, they've been on top of that at the moment than any other team in the EPL. I don't see them slacking even after the international break. They've got there young and healthy squad still and would be looking towards adding more to its teams depth with the transfer window. It would be a destination for some good players with the way things have turned for Arsenal in the EPL and with the Arteta's management. Arsenal might just be able to pull this off.
1956  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2022/23 Season on: December 21, 2022, 10:24:53 PM
Both Mbappe and Messi were very outstanding in the World Cup, moreover, in the final, Mbappe was exactly super enough. Although his team lost to Argentina, we all know how the his performance of Mbappe, is really outstanding.
The finals was one like no other. Particularly for these two PSG players. They've were Particularly competitive and outstanding in that game. K. Mbappe wasn't really motivated in the first half and at the beginning of the second half but soon after they had there first goal, it all turned to the interesting finals we all hoped it to be. Argentina was fully prepared for this, that's one thing I would say.

I do hope to see the same energy these players who distinguished themselves in the world cup to use in the UCL. PSG needs a champions league they've got what it takes to make it happen in Neyamr, Mbappe and Messi.
1957  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to avoid future losses in crypto on: December 21, 2022, 09:46:35 PM
Invest only what you want afford to loose!
Well, that's one way to go about it but, we must realise that, this what we can't afford to lose at an initial stage often accumulates to what we can't afford to loose. That's the reality of it although, it remains a good strategy towards investing as a whole.

The best strategy towards avoiding loses is to ensure you buy bitcoin or invest in a better/verified crypto project after DYOR, use proper wallet in saving your coins other than using exchanges as a few beginners do. The FTX situation is a good enough lesson for everyone.  Arm yourself with these investing tips and be safe about your investments.
1958  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Should Sub-Threads be created or we should freestyle the whole thing? on: December 21, 2022, 09:33:50 PM
I think the sub-thread for introduction and orientation for Newbies they very necessary because if we talk say make we use the before hangout thread, no be all Newbies fit just scroll to d last page and e fit de discouraging, but as we don get our own local board now make all Newbies just get specific thread for Orientation and proper introduction.
Sub-thread keh, that na pinned post shah and Igehhh don already prepare watin be like that though, e still dey under scrutiny. As you see, e dom make small poll for votes on on goes and what doesn't go and still, e go abi we go like make every person bring suggestions.

On top of that, e dey very necessary say, the local board get structure. This na to narrow down discussions as well make person no dey put eye for everywhere before e go see watin e dey fine. That structure go even help wella as threads created fort increase and no go dey washed up anyhow like when we go just leave the board like that.
1959  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Naija Hangout (General discussion) on: December 21, 2022, 12:50:15 PM
NEW TOPIC: Congratulations everyone, we made it, welcome to the Nigerian (Naija) Local baord.
I enter forum today, say make i check watin dey happen for the local hangout normally. As I check up for the thread as I sabi say, our high activity rate dey aways keep us afloat of every other hangout, to my surprise, we were no where to be found. Na till I look well I see say, Theymos don move am. Na once my belle sweet me and as I fall back go local board con see Nigeria (Naija), I get the joy way I believe say most of una get too. A very big congratulations to all of una way contribute to this success one way or the other. It takes great determination and corporation to make this thing happen.

The only thing way tire is small shah na the lack of structure for the local board. E just tire me say, upon all our preparation and persistence, we no been set up a structure for proper categorisation and discussion. Hope say we still get time shah and that suppose to our discussion at the moment. Make we structure the board as e dey hot. E get proposal way been come up before:

Economics
Politics and Society
Others

This na as I remember am but, I for like add,
Crypto Naija (where we fit discuss and suggest cryptocurrency development/projects for we naija)

Once a, a big congratulations to every naija person for the forum.

Low-paying job...$14 an hour?
Dude, are you sure you chose the right place to be pitied?
My thoughts exactly and it makes me wonder what nation is this user from, lol...

What I'll like to say to the OP at this point is that, OP is doing okay. I think the issue here is dwelling on the past, hoping yo recover what was lost sooner than later but, that isn't going to let it go away. You should just start from where you are at the moment, try buying some more bitcoins and this time, try using wallets in place of an exchange.  Exchanges aren't wallets and should be avoided from saving large some. Be the sole admin of your finance and not have a third party in your business, that's the bitter lesson from FTX and I hope you learned it good.

You've got skill and time @OP, use it.
