19421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: July 27, 2018, 09:44:32 PM
Zcash difficulty took a pretty big drop today. No clue why but I’m going to enjoy it while it’s here.

There are other equihash coins - might have been a shift to one of those.

Could also be some GPU miners pulling rigs due to low profitability, or shifting to other more profitable coins.

Could also be normal "luck" variation.

I suspect it's a combination of "all of the above" though.

Agree with your points. As a conspiracy theory junkie it’s more fun to think bitmain is shutting down their units after testing , in order for them to be packaged and shipped.

Don't forget the innosilicon beasts

http://www.innosilicon.com/html/news/26.html

supposed they just did a big burn in of 1000 units and packed them for sales

that is  50,000 x 1000 = 50,000,000sols  or about 70000 1080ti's

so  70,000 x 700 = 49 million worth of 1080ti's to be replaced by about 10 million in A9's

so 49-10 = 40 million drop in the value of 50,000,000 sols of hash power

most of this is on zcash developers and not having 2 or 3 forks ready to go.

Asic resistance for any new coin is pretty simple   just start an algo/new coin with 2 to 3 forks ready for action.

well to all that jumped in on the z9 or A9 good luck.

I went to the forkers  I am mining some BTG and holding my own.

I also  am hodling: BIS and RVN

are you actually holding the BTG? Or mining and trading out?

fwiw my nvidia is on aion & my amd is on loki

I am holding it  going to mine till I have over 100 of them.  Then find a different coin.

19423  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: GMO miner B2: 7NM mining within reach? on: July 27, 2018, 07:33:21 PM
24 TH for 2 KW?

Not very impressive if they're actually using 7nm parts.

Innosilicon has done better than THAT on new nodes....

right now  gmo claims 82 watts per th

innosilicon claims  72 watts per th on a down clocked t2 turbo

and pangolin claims 65 watts per th on its new m10

so

24th doing 2000 watts  for gmo ships in OCT

33th doing 2145 watts for pangolin  ships in Sept

no real verification in field tests by real miners as of today.

but GMO is in trouble if  both innosilicon and pangolin deliver on their claims.

Not sure why it was removed  but here goes a list:

https://bitminter.com/ ----------  they mine both nmc and btc merged
http://solo.ckpool.org/ ---------- I mine here
http://ckpool.org/ --------------- I mine here
http://kano.is/  ------------------ Newly added
https://slushpool.com/home/ --- 4.6 Eh
https://www.f2pool.com/ ----- allows pps mining as a choice  about 4.2 EH

p2p pool I think not sure

I think there is an Indian pool  and a few more.

19426  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 17.2TH/s, 1570W Innosilicon announces the most powerful and efficient BTC Miner on: July 27, 2018, 01:23:47 PM
As of now I will be waiting on the T2 turbo vs the T2

I may be getting  two other miners

from different companies

an Avalon 851

and a Pangolin M10

I like the T1  and ck's firmware did help it work well.

Plain facts are this Innosilicon has more efficient miners then  bitmain.

They cost more  since bitmain is flooding the markets with cheap miners

If your power cost it very cheap  bitmain works for you.

If you don't have really cheap power innosilicon  is a better choice.

I would be interested in the turbo version of the T2 when it is released.
19427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Acorn M.2 FPGA based GPU Accelerator on: July 27, 2018, 11:20:28 AM
So those ancorns... Noone has seen them, noone has used them, noone has tested them, but anyone is loosing their minds. Are there any parts in my statement wrong?

They have not had a  proper demo.
They are  delayed far longer then first spoken about.

This most likely hurt their sales  as many are available for sept delivery.

Early in thread  targets were preorder for mid june and shipping in late june

preorder was mid july with a small batch shipping in August

most gear due to ship in sept.

I have  about 790usd in orders:

two acorn 215+  and one x2g nest

I would have purchased more but  simply not enough  real info and shipping is later then I would like.

In fact what happens if the nvidia 1180ti  releases  and this gear does not work with it?

I have the small amount to play with ,but I wont go nuts on this.

Also  the decision to use it on   equihash  makes no sense to me.  the new equihash miners do 50,000 sols  at low watts  so what good is this on equihash?
I could go on and I will more then one person got their orders screwed up  and fixing was time consuming.
So will new software changes be time consuming?

To be nice  OhGodaGirl  gave out good software for mining eth  and I mine 8 1080tis at  400mh  vs  8 at 270mh   so she effectively  gave me 130mh  which would be 3 or 4 1080tis

that is worth more then the 790 usd I sent into  squirrelsresearch and the mineority (which is her company)

I figure she should be supported  and if the gear comes in sept and works I will buy more.

To be honest  if you use  the eth pill  you should buy something as a way to thank her.

19431  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Proof that Proof of Stake is either extremely vulnerable or totally centralised on: July 26, 2018, 04:36:33 PM
Hmm,

Are their any Virtual or Physical Machines that can allow me to run applications at a different time scale than normal time.
Basically scaling 24 hours in 24 seconds and the application be none the wiser.

Therefore truly tricking an application about the speed of time.

Does anyone have any links to such a thing?

FYI:
OK, just to sum up.
To run this attack,

1.  One has to Buy or Steal old Private Keys totaling over 51% of a Proof of Stake Coin.
2.  Have a Virtual Machine that can fake time, so the wallet client can run unmodified.
3.  Create a Longer Chain with more difficulty on their virtual machine.
4.  Run Multiple PCs with their new chain on the coin network to replace the main chain.

* Still other factors that could block the fake chain from taking over,
Coin Age may keep the main chain with a higher difficulty, even if the attacker has actual 51% of coins.
Many Coins refuse blocks created too far ahead of the main chain, blocking the attacker's chain.
So timing has to be perfect.

Actually looks like a lot of personal time and expense to really accomplish nothing.
Say the attacker chain actually does rewrite the main chain.
Such a thing will be noticed immediately.

So the coin community releases the main chain with a hard coded check point blocking the attacker's chain.
People redownload the main chain and updated code and are back to normal within a day.

This attack , causes all Proof of Stake coins to implement rolling checkpoints as a safeguard and the whole attack proves to be a NON-EVENT.  Cheesy

The attacker however has wasted his time and money on an attack , that never had any real chance of destroying a proof of stake network.  Wink

FYI2:  Little thought for the PoW Crowd.  Cheesy
The Largest ASICS Producer could have a major breakthrough and run NEW ASICS in their factory in Parallel to the main chain
for a few months creating a Longer chain with higher difficulty at their factory than the public bitcoin chain.
Releasing the ASICS Attack chain to overwrite the Bitcoin Network Main Chain.
And what would they do to repair things, release a download of the main chain and a updated client with a hard coded check point ,
and most likely implement rolling check points to prevent that from happening again.  Wink

does not work like this at all.

to attack  you don't need a cloned block chain as it is not the blockchain you are attacking .

to attack the  BTC  chain  at 51% you need about 2.5 billion usd in hard gear .    that is if you have  s-9s.

the network right now is  42,616,425,761gh   so to do a 51% attack you need 45,000,000,000 gh in gear.  that is 3,214,285 s9's

you also need 4,500,000,000 in watts.

that is 4,500,000 kwatts  or 4,500 mega watts  which is about all of the Niagra falls power plant

http://nyfalls.com/niagara-falls/faq5/

New york city uses about 6,000 mega watts

So a direct 51% on BTC  would be really hard to do.  Unless you build a new miner that  is about 1000x better then an s9

but If bitmain build a 1000x more efficient miner  they absolutely would not want to do a 51% attack.

They could expand hash nest and claim their new miner is too large to sell  they could say it is 50th and uses 2000 watts.

then just sell shares of hash nest   and they would make a fortune doing that

I live in Ontario and pay ~ 6.7 c/kWh on average. We recently had a change of Provincial government because people (among other issues) were unhappy about high cost of electricity. I have no idea how you guys can tolerate 18c rate.

Before taxes I suppose ?

well I would love 6.7 cents a kwatt  my 18 cent for summer and 10 cent for winter  is fully adjusted takes into account extra cooling  for summer and heat benefit for winter.

if  he is 6.7 usa cents  after delivery and tax.

for me that would be

8 cents in the summer for extra cooling
3 cents in the winter for the heat benefit

would be very nice.

I asked for mods to move this to alt coin

but lets go very simple

use 1 psu  to the mobo  and use only 1 gpu

use same psu

don't hook up any of the other gpus or the risers.

see if you can get 1 gpu to work using just the 1 psu

Late to this party.. but still trying to make up my mind.. the ETH performance increase expected is about 15%

I have 13 GPU(470/480 based) rigs.. so will need the X4 and 4 of the CLE 101.. that would give me ~56MH bump and expected price is about $900.. have not really read about the power consumption..  am i missing something here ?

Edit :  IS this true Huh "so if acorn really reduce energy cost at 60% this is really good deal for me"

because if it is.. this makes perfect sense !!

I'm actually not sure about that, many of us are undervolting already, so i'm curious if that up to 60% is on top of undervolting that many are doing or is it assuming at stock voltages?  If it really is up to 60%, that is totally worth it, as I'm paying 22 cents /kwh.  a 50% increase would be substantial.

Yeah.. anyone in FL who has ordered on of these?
22 cents is crazy ! what are you mining to make it worth it ??
Mining ETH, I'm still generating a + but it's teeny... off 18 cards, i'm netting $5 a day at current eth value... just hodling for now.

Yeah I am Mining ETH about 300 mh. Paying 18 cents for summer power.  I make some profit.

But oct 1 power drops to 10 cents and savings from this item should also help

well  it is summer rate and it is 16.7 I add 1.3 to adjust for extra ac  brings it to 18 usa cents.

winter is 13.7  I take off 3.7 as I get 'free' heating so I am at 10 cents from Oct 1 to May 31

If not for the solar array with buysolar   where my power cost is a simple spilt the coins  all the time I could not mine.

My point got a little lost, I simply meant I am dubious of their power ratings.

Yes even at 2400W this current model would be nice, hopefully it stays in this range.

I hope I am wrong as my M3s were excellent miners and this one looks awesome.

Well my M3 did just about exactly as advertised.  They sent me and Hagss testers to demo..

So frankly we hope this will be the same.

We will let you know  when we get them.

No there weren't confirmation letters from them. And ofc I've checked spam folder etc.
So I'm lil bit frustrated here, there's a transaction confirmation from "Coin Payments" as shown on the pic. And no other contact info apart that email that wont reply back. No idea what to do atm.

upd: well there might be some site performance issues but I didnt get any reply\explanation from them anyway.

this is what happened to me with my squirrelsreasearch order.

and frankly I was a P.I.T.A.

I posted about it on this thread. Every day

I pm'd gpuhoarder multiple times

I went on discord and asked over and over and over.

It took about 7 or 8 days to fix it.  I now have a confirmed order from squirrels research for:

 one 215+
 one next x2g

my order with minority was smooth I have an order for :

one 215+

you need to be a pest  to get it fixed  at least I did  and they fixed the order.

gpuhoarder owns the company that built the gear

19438  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pangolin Whatsminer M10 - 33TH at 2145W on: July 26, 2018, 12:04:36 AM
Yes they do, but +10% on 2000W is 2200W, not 2400W... That's 400W over between the two.

even at 2400watt on the wall

2400/33000 = 0.072727272 watts per gh which is better then anything else

time will tell  I will do detail videos on it in the garage and in the solar array  I will meter it in both places

I will also attempt to test other psu's if at all possible.

I have a 2400 watt psu
I have a 2500 watt psu
I have a 2880 watt psu
I have a 2980 watt psu

along with the stock attached psu.

I am waiting for a contact email  as Hagss setup it up and I should hear from them soon.

19440  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Where do you draw the line, Freedom of Speech/Misinformation on: July 25, 2018, 07:05:15 PM
There are days I have a hard time talking to people about anything of substance. It goes beyond the general differing opinions or being proven wrong; I'm entirely fine with that...

This entire idea grinds my gears. I'm with you on this 100% of the way.

I began my internet working journey in 2015, and the very first idea I had was that I would build a blog representing my thoughts, feelings and experiences put forth into the world for anyone that could use whatever it was that I was talking about to their advantage. This blog slowly grew into a magazine and recently I've had some lovely diverse and open-minded perspectives towards the world. The only real mission that I have for my magazine is that I may not necessarily agree with the message of the author but because of freedom of speech and expression, and my thirst for devouring different viewpoints, I let everyone have their say providing it's not damaging or hateful.

This entire perspective I have on the world has thrust me into a very libertarian network of people, and although I consider myself libertarian I do love the idea of free speech. Free speech allows us to exist in a realist world where everyone voices their opinions freely. I've met some strange people though; one lady that was enthusiastic about writing for me insisted that you couldn't be racist to a white person and would accommodate no other viewpoints to that; her own perspective on the world being the gold standard and anything that differs from such would require her and her buddies to go into their safe space.

In my mind the term safe space has been hijacked. As a manager, and a man that would go into difficult communities and get people talking, a safe space for me would be to sit two people down and have them both listen to each others viewpoints without interruption or judgement -- that way you could force and medium ground; it's a thing counsellors do in couples therapy, and it's also a way to get people to realise they aren't listening to each other. So this new term safe space has been completely hijacked and used as a term for people to sit in without fear of anything different. In my mind that's dangerous to a person and society.

If I hadn't been called weird and different as a kid, I would have never have strived to make anything of myself; to be better than those that enjoyed name calling me, to sit on my high chair in adulthood and look down on them as they struggled to make ends meet. It didn't pan out that way, but in my opinion the differing of opinions and the competition in society is fierce. If there was no reason to be better, to create more, to be better than you were last year then we would all just stagnate. We would exist in our own bubble of safety and no-one would ever intend to get better at anything. Life is grand, so we'll just sit in the sun and get a tan.

Ben Shapiro famously said -- facts don't care about your feelings. Now I'm generally not a big fan of that man but everything he's said on freedom of speech is down to the nail. If we all wanted to be sheltered away from the nasty things in the world we'd end up as big fragile snowflakes scared that our feelings get hurt.

I blame Facebook though, and other algorithm formats. They've created a world where people live in echo chambers of their own opinions and it's become so increasingly harder for people to hear opinions from other people that differ from theirs; right down to the point of utter disgust, and bodily harm. "Punch a racist" is a commonly used term in my world, yet I worry that racist is used too loosely these days. Someone identifying with right wing ideology is brandished as a racist; when without deeper analysis you have no way to tell this.

And have you noticed that everyone believes they are right these days? Everyone? There is absolutely no gathering of facts and proper critical analysis; it's just, you're wrong because I don't like to feel that I'm wrong.

I'll leave you with this piece:
