I didn't hear the news that they stopped accepting bitcoin! Man I was out of the loop for a bit there.
Also, who edits these articles?!
"BitPay did immediately responded to CNBC's requests for comment."
I'm glad BitPay did was on the ball.
Noticing this more and more on some of the large websites, it is just laziness in not checking articles before they are posted. I suppose because they can easily go back in and adjust them if the need be whereas in the olden days when we just had old fashioned print it was a lot harder to amend. Regarding Microsoft, I did hear that they stopped which was a bit crazy but glad to hear they are back on board.

Do you think we should set a cut off date and then at that point just go with what we have?

Taking quite a while this time round, strange as there were 35 people in the poll that have said they would be interested and we have had a couple of runs so far, fair enough no block hit but that just means we still have one to come (at some point)

There are some in the UK, really quick and easy to use but the one I used did seem quite steep 9-10% but it served it's purpose.

In the UK I can see some awareness as there are a few places that accept bitcoin, in my personal surroundings there is little to no awareness, when I have spoken about it some tend to treat it like a fad and really not that interested.

I don't think banks will ever be in a place where they can no longer operate due to bitcoin. The key thing we will see will be the adaption and adoption by the banks to incorporate the virtual currency world into their business.
We can see this already with the interest in how to use the blockchain and create their own private blockchains, outside of this they still have their fingers in many pies so I doubt we will ever be bankless.

If you want to keep up to date with those altcoins that are upcoming you can find this information usually in the altcoin announcement threads, there will sometimes be a pre announcement which will give you all the information you need on the coin to start mining on launch.

I'm hoping we can hit one this time round (this is a really crappy bump)

I see you have posted in the altcoin area so I assume you are referring to altcoins and that you wish to mine and not bitcoin.
Genesis mining does offer a few altcoins and also some ETH mining, but to be honest you would be better off mining yourself. If you know which coin you are interested in, go to their thread in the announcements and from there you will be able to see which mining pools are setup to mine the coin, with this information you can join the pool and then rent some hashpower at one of many sites, a site I use is miningrigrentals.
This is the easiest route to mining without having to know too much, or you could spend some time and research on how mining works and then take it from there.

Yeah, it seems there is a bit of a traffic jam and there are huge delays. I was waiting a few hours earlier for a transaction to go through, give it a tad longer before getting worried.

It is as safe as an exchange can be, you mention you will be moving the coins into your own wallet at some point which is a good move, storing a lot of coins on an exchange long term would not be the safest thing to do.
Poloniex is one of the best exchanges right now, usually when these exchanges start to fall to pieces there are warning signs, Cryptsy had warning signs here on the forum so you should be okay but obviously the decision is ultimately yours.

I would call them clever, rich or just plain lucky depending on how they amassed that amount of bitcoin.

The majority of sites that claim cloud mining will rip you off, there are a few that are real but return on your investment will take a long time and you may be better off renting your hash and mining directly.
Before you invest in anything have a little search around and research the site.

Whatever happens it is on their radar and already big enough to warrant debate. I cannot see them just allowing bitcoin to grow and grow without somehow getting their piece of the pie, there will be some kind of tax put upon the fiat side of it at least so when you transfer to cash they will get their part.

It depends on the type of person you are, some would take it and spend it without giving it a second thought.
The decent thing to do would be to contact the site and inform them what has happened, if it turns out to be an error on their part this in itself is quite scary and I would not use the site anymore if random amounts of bitcoin can end up in an account.
You may have used your address somewhere before and somebody has meant to send this amount to you, either way my advice would be to reach out to support. If they are not able to find out where it came from and it is an error it would be helpful if you could let the community know the site and post some proof so nobody else can get affected in this way.
Legally I am not sure, it is stealing something of value, in a similar fashion if you found $1000 dollars in your bank account spending it would probably not be the best thing to do.

If you are trading altcoins then you can start with a small amount and if you are lucky you can really make some BTC, be aware that there is a lot of manipulation with the altcoins.
Do some research in this forum on the coins that peak your interest and of course only risk what you can afford or are not to upset about losing.

Sorry this happened to you, as others have said and you now know setting up 2FA is a must to add that extra layer of security to any account. I hope you can resolve this issue and somehow get your BTC back.

Accepted, but keep in mind that we don't count posts in the "Investor-based Games" section - I see that quite a few of your recent posts are in that section.
Thanks, I understand.
