It's been so boring though, great for the goods market but so boring for the exchanges.
Such non-activity allows me to do other things in life.

However this also cause me to frequently check my phone for latest chart updates, I think there is a strong chance I get even less work done with everything is fine and stable lol
1962  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Improvement you'd most like to see on MetaCo.in on: June 29, 2011, 06:01:43 PM
You know, I answered 'Us using our leverage to get non btc-accepting businesses to offer deals for coins.'.. which I feel is very important.  But I think with this site in particular, I think the 'More frequent deals (one a day would be nice)' seems better for now.

I'd shut down for a week, gather together enough deals where if one is not necessarily going for the day, that front page is used to advertise and hint at what the next deal is going to be with a huge countdown clock (basically have a month full of deals prepared, knowing which ones are time sensitive and which ones you can just post at any time).   Side bar would have the info on the last deal I guess.  Having a good 'in between' landing page while deals are not going on is a key thing I think, then that goal of an item a day.

1964  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Researchers find Malware Rigged with Bitcoin Miner - Shut Down! on: June 29, 2011, 05:42:59 PM
Good news everyone!
Quote
Researchers at Kaspersky Lab (disclosure: my employer) has discovered a new piece of malware that plans Bitcoin miners on infected computers.

The idea is to steal computer resources from infected computers to generate the valuable peer-to-peer virtual currency.

Kaspersky Lab’s Alex Gostev said the new threat was discovered targeting Russian users with a Trojan that contains two components — a legitimate bcm.exe file BitCoin Miner; and a malicious module that installs the bcm without the user’s knowledge and adds it to the autorun registry.

“The infected computer then starts to generate bit-coins for the Trojan’s author,” Gostev explained.

The malicious hacker behind the Trojan did not generate any riches from this attack because the system detected the mining activity coming from multiple IPs.

Quote
The Trojan is Infostealer.Coinbit and it has one motive: to locate your Bitcoin wallet.dat file and email it to the attacker…We have also discovered source code on underground forums which locates the wallet and, using FTP, uploads it to the attacker’s servers,” writes Symantec’s Stephen Doherty.

Oh wait, that wasn't good news at all.  Well it is in the sense that this story comes out because the person was stopped http://www.zdnet.com/blog/security/researchers-find-malware-rigged-with-bitcoin-miner/8934

I heard Metallica is big supporters of these digital audio files, so I am using them as an example. Below is a screenshot of What.CD's Metallica page.  I wanted to just point out (with that arrow) how long that page is. I zoomed out in Chrome to 69% (minus 2 magnification) and I just noticed now after uploading, all those albums you see, is still just one album, different variations of it, not only based on the quality itself, but source as well (import, vinyl, etc), they are all just Death Magnetic

1966  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Waffles.fm invites for 0.2 BTC on: June 29, 2011, 05:27:21 PM
And what are the benefits? Compared to, for example demonoid or piratebay? More stuff? Quality? How much earlier stuff appears there?
Quality and Quantity to public trackers is not even possible.  I find tracks on both What.CD and Waffles that Amazon does not.   brb, taking a screen shot so the public can understand what happens when people who love something can come together Smiley

A decent discussion and serious take on this matter regarding AdSense and Bitcoins can be found right here btw http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/AdSense/thread?tid=45ed27c606581b8e&hl=en

Follow them?

I am not sure if any threads like this have produced results that have helped, but I hope so, sorry about your troubles.
1969  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The richest users on the bitcoin forum on: June 29, 2011, 04:54:44 PM
Really? I thought dozens of people on these forums had 1000s of BTC...Someone please clarify.
They probably do, and they are probably smart enough to have multiple wallets.

And we don't want to, but thanks for putting these peoples accounts at risk. WTF is wrong with people?

If their account was in risk after this thread, I assure you those peoples accounts were at risk before.

No matter what though, still a shit thing to do.
1970  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The richest users on the bitcoin forum on: June 29, 2011, 04:39:53 PM
unemployed whats the point of this?

I honestly didn't notice at first.  I'm a tard.  When you use his extension (which I am not, I just know how it functions), all the numbers in the thread become clickable.

Proof of concept I guess.  I know he has a good tool there, but I think saying this thread is a sad use for it is an understatement.

1972  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitCoin7 introduces security certificate on: June 29, 2011, 04:26:13 PM
lol, I now see the problem with BitCoin7 pretty easy.   This is not based on just this thread.

Those people do not care about the general "stupid" user.    Smart, and probably actually honest people behind BitCoin7, but fuck, the lack of attention to how people have been reacting and talking about their business, and how they either let it slide or I have even seen them ignore users in a thread lol.

Bitcoin users need to start getting some business managers stat, or read some books on how to run a business.  It doesn't make sense, the quick money will not last them :/
1973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Do I Sell Bitcoins on the Street? on: June 29, 2011, 04:22:59 PM
It would be best for a regular store owner to do this as a sideline, and I imagine in 6 months or a year or two years there will be plenty of stores doing this, just like you see (or used to) sign saying "faxes sent here, $1 a page" when it's not the guy's main business at all.
That kind of made me think of how it would be interesting for someone to get together with a business owner in their area, obviously a tech related local store.  Offer the exchange services outside the store for them but do exchanges only for them specifically.   A tech related store owner at the least I think would have a better grasp of what would be taking place and may even help promote it
1974  Other / Meta / Requirement - A Wallet Address in Every Signature on: June 29, 2011, 04:19:50 PM
Consider it.

No more allowing of ANY asking for ANY donations.  Unless it is specifically asking to fund a certain venture, no more begging at all.  Instant ban.

Flip side to this, every person will have a unique address tied to them that if people like their posts, pop in a .001 btc or some shit.  Whatever.

Alternately, the forum could create a unique address for each new user, that way for everyone who does not want to give out their address, will have a public one tied to just the forum here Smiley

I forget why I initially thought of this, and there is obviously no need or rush for this what so ever, just a thought.   In the end I believe a change like this could clean up a decent percentage of all subforums and threads themselves.

Good luck.  This thread should and will be locked though, you can't sell or trade for invites.

I would work on getting in What.cd, the organization that Oink started out with moved to What.cd.

I'm going to guess it is for the good of everybody based on you thinking posting this thread is a good idea that would help get you to post in other places.

1979  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Do I Sell Bitcoins on the Street? on: June 29, 2011, 04:01:28 PM
Table set up, Netbook, make sure to have a friend around you to just be there with you, as the reality is you'd be trying to be a mobile bank, which to me makes for a super awesome target.

I would do this near a police station or something that has traffic pass through, but is not necessarily the most high traffic area (I only worry about idiots who would have that mentality of 'ah.. mobile bank, let's rob him').

Maybe the ideal solution would be yourself and two friends, those two could be buffers with information and helping explaining for anyone who would actually get to you for the final transaction.  Actually, this seems really optimal and far more trustworthy than one person with a sign.  Good luck, sounds like a fun day out.
