1963  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think of a coin who reduce the total amount of coins being minted? on: February 28, 2015, 05:19:23 PM
This is just to get a feel for the altcoin communities feelings in this issue as it is being discussed in various coins at the moment.

Feel free to post a more detailed answer or suggest more / better options and I'll add them.

The development of an altcoin should be determined by community consensus ...I feel. Give the people what they want.

How are you controlling supply?

It's done in the code. If there is a consensus within the community, a coin's developers can adjust the block reward/inflation rules.

How is consensus within the community determined?

Do you plan to change rules in the future?

Great question. I guess it would be determined by the fork. If a developer made a change that was unwelcome, the majority could abandon the new fork rendering the update null.

Goldcoin has no plans to change the coin rules. In my view, changing the rules would not be advantageous now or at any point in the future.

Can I recreate it? I have all but one wallet backed up and would like to recreate it if possible. Can I? How? Less than $5 in it but would like it just because it is mine Smiley I have address and password.

Why is Satoshi himself asking us peons such questions.  Cheesy

1968  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Alt Coin launch guidelines on: February 27, 2015, 11:37:54 PM
Guidelines are:

If it doesn't introduce some innovation, don't release it.

I tend to agree with this sentiment.

If you're not adding anything other than a name, it's probably best to support an existing coin. The problem with altcoins at the moment is the communities are fragmenting. It's time to come together and build a few great coins.

Let's 'defrag' the altcoin community.  Cheesy

I think when Goldcoin is worth more than BTC, you'll be very happy!  Cheesy

That's gonna be a challenge for a number of reasons but one of them is the excess inflation and dilution.

Is there a plan to cut the inflation and dilution back by a significant amount?

Lots of top coins [Dark, Max, Start, NAUT, etc.] have done it so there is now a well established and accepted precedent.  I hope this is something that is at least being seriously considered.

Cheers!

Well ... I think that Goldcoin's future path should be determined by community consensus.

So I guess anything is possible over the next 120 years.  Smiley

I was hoping you were giving something to a charity to help people, mr microguy

The money we raise will help Goldcoin, which in turn could help the underprivileged and unbanked of Africa. I think digital currencies in general will play an important role in the International remittance markets over the coming years.

Sorry, didn't watch the youtube video,

but can you tell what is the fund raising for.

Thanks

"Attracting and maintaining community interest and talent is the single greatest obstacle for any open-source project. We need to attract young and eager software developers that will contribute to our project and help us to expand our team of software engineers.

We intend to use the proceeds from this campaign to buy GLD on the open market and move those coins into a secure development fund that will allow us to finance new talent, offer bounties for tasks needed, and compensate junior developers."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z77gRtOhF_M

Someone asked recently which altcoin would rise to compete with Bitcoin for digital currency dominance.

Our developers can't do it alone, but if we all work together, I believe we can take Goldcoin (GLD) to the highest levels.

Here are some of the ways in which you can participate:

- Contribute to our fundraiser: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/goldcoin-the-future-of-digital-currency/
- Join our community: https://www.gldtalk.org
- Buy Goldcoin (GLD) on the open market: https://www.cryptsy.com/markets/view/30
- Mine GLD and share your coins with friends and family

Note: If you would like to help test our new java client being released in a few days, send me a PM for consideration of placement on our new Alpha Testing Team.

Feel free to post your comments and questions below. Thank you!

Did you find it a challenge to use indiegogo? I was expecting any crypto to use Keiser's StartJoin.

Cheers!

I originally created the campaign on Kickstarter but it was rejected. Seems like they don't like digital currency? Then I took a look over at Startjoin but the website seemed pretty much dead. So, I decided to give Indiegogo a shot, and just copied the Kickstarter campaign over that I had already created.

It was quick and straightforward with no approval process required.  Smiley

i see this coin is coming back?

Yes. Our lead developer (Akumaburn) has been working hard for over a year on the new client. He's just getting the Alpha ready to roll out now.

1978  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will An Altcoin Ever Surpass the Value of Bitcoin? on: February 15, 2015, 08:58:52 PM
Or become a respectable fraction of the value of Bitcoin; forget becoming equal or surpass its value.

Its been six years, maybe 2000 odd me-toos. Is it time to give up? There is usually a time to stop trying on a new business ideas (or clone).

The simple thought I have is we really can't have an altcoin close to the value of bitcoin, why do we (as a community) continue to waste our time (and money/resources) with more and more new altcoins.

Please share your valuable thoughts.

Thanks

Yes. The future of digital currency will include coins, like GoldCoin (GLD), which could possibly surpass Bitcoin in usage, popularity, and valuation.

But I don't think the existing clones will fare well. The community simply needs to continue consolidating development, narrowing down the field, and focusing on coins that have unique design and innovation. I think it's important to improve on bitcoin and gain prominence through better coding.

We'll be inviting many of you over to our team once the new multi-coin java client is released later this month.
