I think it's more about actually putting its features to the test. A lot of these new altcoins have tons of awesome and cool features but they are just so new and untested.
Please describe in detail your "top 10 list" of these "awesome and cool features" from among the "tons" of new features "a lot of these new altcoins have".  Thanks.
1982  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Do Bitcoin exchanges allow market makers to short sell? on: August 15, 2014, 12:04:49 AM
https://www.bitfinex.com/

Allows you to borrow BTC from other users and sell BTC short.

It also allows you to borrow USD from other users and use them to buy BTC.
1983  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: are there any self controlled trading/exchange platforms? on: August 14, 2014, 11:50:49 PM
I can suggest https://www.bitfinex.com/ as a reputable but probably not regulated exchange.

I do not think they have the license to operate in US and Europe.
You are probably right.

So is this the safest way to store Bitcoin and be able to spend it pretty quickly trying to weigh up the pros and cons of this.
I would call it one of the safest.  I use it to store a lot of BTC.

So are you guys plugging it in to check the balances every so often, or just entering the receiving address into a block explorer?
You do not need to plug it in to get the balance if your browser has remembered the xpub key.  The balance should be available at mytrezor.com without plugging in the Trezor.

It would be very painful to enter all of the receiving and change addresses into a block explorer.  There could be many of them and they are (should be) always changing.

One of the things I really like about Trezor and deterministic wallets in general is that they move people away from address reuse which is a big deal for privacy and fungibility.

And of our kids will say, "You mean you used to mine virtual currencies??!"
Are you suggesting there is a decentralized alt crypto currency out there that does not use some sort of mining?  I do not believe you.  Post a reference/link.

There is a laundry list of features that could be safely added to Bitcoin which would make it usable in numerous financial industries.  And the items on that list simply aren't being added.  This is my biggest and only concern about the long term viability of Bitcoin.
Can you list five from your long laundry list that can safely be added with no fork?

I think that's a lot of power to give to someone with vested interest in altcoins  Roll Eyes  It'll make a lot of people uncomfortable because it's hard to remain impartial when you're passionate about something.
The ideal moderator would be a hero/senior member of unquestionable integrity who's never dabbled in altcoins.
I have no vested interest in altcoins.  I am impartial because I know nothing about them at all.  I am not passionate about them at all.  I have my profile set to ingnore all altcoin related posts.  I never visit the altcoin subforum and never will.  I have never dabbled in altcoins and never will.

Make me the altcoin mod and I promise to never even read a single altcoin post.  I am the perfect candidate by your definition.

hmm..no you're not the perfect candidate. I think you missed the part where you'd then be a staff member and that moderating the altcoin section would then be your job.
If you don't read a single post then you're not really doing your job which means you're not really a member of unquestionable integrity.
sarcasm, look it up

1991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: backing up wallet question on: August 13, 2014, 05:15:25 PM
Should we always have a recent backup all the time or and old backup will do?
On bitcoin-qt you should backup every 50 [send] transactions or so and you must backup every 90 [send] transactions or so.
1992  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is CIA or NSA project? on: August 13, 2014, 04:29:39 PM
I have a great idea.  Let's put all posts from the shithole IB times and all his fucking alts into their own sub forum.  Every time he or his alts post we can just move them there.

Then we can all set our profiles to ignore that sub forum.

1995  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 0.2 FEE!!!! ? am i missing something? on: August 13, 2014, 03:12:36 PM
Holy crap. Why would your transaction fee to 0.2 btc? Did you accidentally set it that way or something?
0.2 BTC fee, how it happened? you did something wrong or you just send and it was 0.2 tran fee?
Two more rude boys.
1996  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 0.2 FEE!!!! ? am i missing something? on: August 13, 2014, 01:28:22 PM
You have a lot of small transactions? Maybe?

You did not read a single post in this thread before posting.  Am I right?  That is very rude.  Listen before you talk or you just look like an idiot.
Too late for that. However, 15 pages to find out what happened, is a bit much.
Don't have to read the whole thread when joining a thread. Usually just read the first two and the last two pages is enough.

I was thinking the Trezor just needed to say "key is OK" or "key is BAD" but if the malware knows the xpub it can send the correct next public key to the Trezor to get it to say OK but display the incorrect pub key on the computer so the Trezor would have to show the actual pub key and you would have to compare the two keys, right?

I could see a "verify address" button next to each address on the screen.  If I press that button the displayed address is sent to the Trezor for verification and if the same address appears on the Trezor screen then the address is a good one.
