I haven't created many threads with polls so far, but if I recall correctly, the OP can reset the poll if he wants - could this have been the case?
I didn't know that. But I haven't seen the votes counter going to zero atleast decreasing the counter when I make another vote.

Were there many other votes cast the second time around (if you voted twice in a short time frame)?
I don't think it was in a short time frame. If I remember correctly, then the counter only increased than it was before.

Yes OP can reset the poll. Change the poll question and counter start again 0.
So may be you voted on that poll again and thought you voted twice on same poll.
