21  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is Your Plan for the Future? on: August 19, 2018, 04:55:34 PM
I'd like to be many things: career-wise, I plan to be a lawyer-journalist and a businessman. But other than that, i would just like to live a secure and happy life. In about 10 years, I would like to be married to my girlfriend and have kids, a house and some cars. I would also want to be a philanthropist, as I know just how the poor need all the help they can get as I myself am not a wealthy man.
22  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Earth’s Greatest Threats on: August 19, 2018, 04:46:59 PM
I believe ignorance is the greatest threat to our planet.

Ignorance is a broad topic, but I would like to focus on ignorance concerning nature and the environment. Here's one example that I experienced first-hand that perfectly depicts this problem:

My friend and I were arguing over the use of plastic straws. We were eating at a fastfood joint and I told him not to get straws for us because we can drink directly from the paper cups. He didn't get straws for the rest of us, but he got a straw for himself. We all told him that we're trying to save the environment by boycotting plastic straws, and we encouraged him to do so too.

He argued that many people will use straws anyway so why not just be part of the problem because trying to solve it is futile anyway, and that why should he be inconvenienced over such thing.

That is how the mindset of others are, and trust me, there are a lot of humans who think that way. Ignorance is NOT bliss.

However, I believe I was able to make him change his stance after I told him this reasoning: If more and more people refuse to use plastic straws, fastfood joints would have more in stock, making them order straws from suppliers less frequently. If they order less frequently, factories making the straws will have to create fewer supplies. It's the basic law of supply and demand.

If more and more people practice boycotting plastic and join in other efforts such as recycling and not littering, we may have a big impact on the effort to save the world.
23  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will ever there be World Peace? on: August 19, 2018, 04:33:09 PM
Even though the idea of having world peace is one of my top wishes for the world, I think we will never achieve. Not now, not tomorrow, and not a hundred years from now.

We are mortals, and as long as we are humans that have our own emotions, biases, wants and needs, we will never truly and completely get along. We are forever cursed with jealousy, greed, lust, envy and many others-- but that is just part of being human. Let's say someone takes over the world and establish a one world government, that will not really be tantamount to world peace.

There will always be factions and groups that will have conflicts with each other because of different goals and aspirations. Different beliefs, religions, cultures and much more. We can hope, but we must not cling to that very tightly, as it will most likely be futile.
24  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How is the economy of your country recently? on: August 19, 2018, 04:24:30 PM
In Philippines, we don't know if our country will be in good place or in bad place.
Our problem with Drugs, a huge problem of it, Poor people who or sometimes innocent are being killed because of accusation to them, Police think that they our drug dealer, but sometimes they're being set-up. Other one is the exchange of money, our money is too low to exchange in USD
1 USD = Php 53.46. That's a huge exchange rate and that is the reason why many people go to Philippines. I don't know what will happen to the future , Will it progress ? or bad thing will happen.

I agree with you, but to be honest, we really arein a bad place right now, there is no other way around that. Other than the aforementioned problems, the inflation rate in our country has just gotten too high in the past few months and the ones who are suffering are the middle class and the poor.

Taxes for goods and services have significantly increased  because of our latest tax reform program (TRAIN law), but the minimum wage and sources of income did no really adjust to that so we are basically forced to spend more and more money while earning the same thing. It's quite unfortunate for millions of Filipinos over here.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC currency unit is too complicated to accepted widely. on: August 19, 2018, 04:17:56 PM
I think that is because the world of cryptocurrency is still pretty much underground. Despite the popularity of bitcoin, the common public only really "know" about it but not actually understand it.

Moreover, the whole process of how bitcoin achieves its value is hard to understand and too complicated, even for educated people (unless they are into economics and cryptocurrency).

As insto said:

...Its value is determined by the number of people or business units that accept Bitcoin. If more and more use, the value will continue to increase. Conversely, if it gets less, the implication is that the selling price will go down. Besides that, as a crypto currency, Bitcoin does not recognize transaction cancellations. The process is also public, no entity can provide guarantees for negligence that causes loss or errors in the shipping process. Hardware wallets (special devices for storing private keys) are also susceptible to virus attack or damage if not treated properly, can cause coins to float.

There is no legitimate back up for bitcoin, unlike normal national currencies (which have values depending on the government's gold stash and many other economic factors). It mainly depends on transactions and how many are really willing to use it.
26  Other / Meta / Re: Why locking threads which are actually helpful? on: August 13, 2018, 12:23:01 PM
Thank you for this! Finally, a member of our local community pointed this problem out, and I'm quite honored one of my replies to a conversation regarding this matter was used as evidence.

I've been active in the forum for only about a month now, and it is indeed true that this is one problem I see in our forum. The locked threads you mentioned contained some of the threads I was referring to, although all of these are worthy of being mentioned all the same. These threads helped me when I was a new member of this forum (and still does), and I hope that it helps others too--that can only be done if this problem is resolved.

28  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: Disappointed and Guilty [Shitposters] on: August 12, 2018, 06:34:52 PM
Sa totoo lang, dalawang factor ang may dahilan kung bakit mababa ang tingin sating mga Pilipino dito sa forum: Maraming racists samundo;
at marami ring shitposter na Pinoy.

Kumbaga nakita na nga nating umaapoy na, nilagyan pa natin ng gasolina.

Kudos dito sa post mo. Dahil dito, we are given a new perspective as to why some of us commit shitposting.

29  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Politics is not necessary?! on: August 11, 2018, 06:33:05 PM
I believe humanity would not survive without politics. It is in our nature to govern and to be governed.

From big nations to the smallest tribes, there will always be people who will act as leaders, second in command, minions and etc. Politics will always be there. And it is not politics that is evil in itself, it's just that more people who are evil and greedy choose to run for politics while the good ones dont.
30  Other / Off-topic / Re: Similarities between cryptocurrency world and the real world on: August 11, 2018, 06:26:22 PM
Not the best example because the rank requirements for campaigns is simply to minimize abuse from people with multiple accounts. While getting employed is more a matter of competence.

This is what I really had in mind after reading this post. Although I get what OP was trying to say, but I believe that is not the best analogy for the world of cryptocurrency and the real world.

If I'm going to think of similarities, I think one would be the high stakes of investing in something in order to gain profit (stocks/bonds:cryptocurrency,altcoins/bitcoins)
31  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Seriously, why would anyone want $20 Billion Dollars? on: August 11, 2018, 06:19:28 PM
Well, we all have our own wants and needs but I get what you are saying. It is just that to be honest, people are allowed to want 20 billion dollars just because they want.

If you were to offer me to choose between $5 million and $20 billion, of course I'll choose the latter. I know that I would not be able to use it all for myself, but I can give away to charity and the homeless all the excess. I can invest in tons of businesses, help out small ones, and just generally help other people out while having more than enough myself.
32  Other / Serious discussion / Re: It is immoral to be part of unfair system? on: August 11, 2018, 05:57:41 PM
Although I do not really believe your statistics, which I guess you only guessed yourself, I agree that there are a lot of people that are in the same position you are talking about--being part of unfair systems but refusing to leave because they get paid the big bucks.

Regarding your question, well I guess the content of your post answers it all, quite honestly. Of course it is immoral. The very situation you described best depicts human selfishness and greed: benefiting from the poor victims for your own selfish needs and gains.

If you are part of the system that causes this but continues to work for it, then it doesn't matter if you are aware of it but still refuses to take action. It's immoral; nothing more, nothing less.
33  Other / Off-topic / Re: Offline games on: August 11, 2018, 05:50:37 PM
I'm currently playing Hole.io. It is quite a very addicting game, although you do not really progress in the game, just like any other ".io" games hahaha  Grin I also always have chess on my phone. I often use it during commute or when I want some brain exercise or something  Grin
34  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the world ready for cryptocurrency? on: August 10, 2018, 01:50:33 PM
There are probably millions of people scattered around the world who are involved in the world of cryptocurrency, and are more than ready for it as they have been using it for a long time.

However, the majority of people in the world don't really know about bitcoin. So relatively speaking, I believe the world is not ready for the meantime. Only a handful of the world's population truly comprehend and understand cryptocurrency, and until people are not learning about bitcoin, I believe it is not ready.
35  Local / Altcoins (Pilipinas) / Re: BOUNTY COMPLAINANTS on: August 10, 2018, 01:43:39 PM

36  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin go under regulation on: August 07, 2018, 03:44:01 PM
you CANNOT regulate beer, people will always find ways to create and consume and swap beer with others.

you CAN regulate PEOPLE/BUSINESSES use of beer. in which if caught people/businesses could end up with fines.
but in short beer will continue to be made no matter what.
take the 1920's alcohol prohibition(regulation) for instance(moonshiners/gentlemens clubs era)

now swap the word beer for bitcoin and you will understand

That's one hell of an analogy hahahaha and really effective too. I believe this reasoning answers your question, but if I might add, I do believe the government will never be truly able to regulate bitcoin, and this is why:

Unlike regular currency, all of those have their value in gold stashed away in every country's secret vault in their central bank. That's how money gets its value, because it has an equivalent amount of worth stashed away by the government. Bitcoin, on the other hand, well the governments of the world do not have the "gold" behind bitcoin.

They may impose rules, but bitcoin and the digital world is so broad and complex that it would be near impossible for governments to fully regulate them.
37  Other / Politics & Society / Re: do you think that corruption can be deleted totally in your country? on: August 07, 2018, 02:16:04 PM
I'm from the Philippines, and I'm certainly not proud of what our government has become (or always has been).

Even before I was born, hundreds of politicians in my country were known as corrupt, but we can never really do anything about it --but we learn it in our history books. Now, I'm in college and nothing has changed.

I don't believe corruption will totally be eradicated from my country, not in a billion years. There may be a chance to have more decent politicians than corrupt ones, but yes, there will always be corrupt ones. We, as a species, will never run out of our (un)fair share of liars, thieves, and evil men. It's just unfortunate that most of them get into public "service."
38  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is taxation theft? on: August 07, 2018, 02:11:14 PM
Well first off sir, society won't run without taxes. Taxes are basically the oil that makes the government and civilization run--no matter how smoothly or roughly, but it makes it work.

Answering your question, well I believe it depends on the situation. If the government uses the taxes for what it's meant to be used for (i.e. healthcare, infrastructure, education, insurance, roads and highways) then it is not theft.

However, we know there lots of corrupt politicians out there who take advantage of the system for their selfish needs. When people like them are put into power, then that is when taxation becomes theft.

But to conclude, my point is we -society- can never survive without taxes. It is not a matter of choice--it is there and will always be there. The real problem is how to make it useful for all of us and not let corrupt politicians have their way.
39  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What is the most ethical way to reduce the growth of human population? on: August 07, 2018, 02:03:27 PM
I believe sex education will be the most ethical way, and might just be the most effective way to to reduce the population.

Although I'm not really a fan of abortion, using condoms is one of the most basic way of avoiding pregnancy. It works most of the time, and it doesn't really kill or hurt anyone. (It's not like you kill millions of babies every time you masturbate, so the same logic goes with this).

Other than using contraceptives, sex education also provides family planning methods AND the needs and consequences of starting a family. It would really make people think thoroughly because they are properly equipped with the knowledge to do so. Again, it's ethical because it doesn't hurt anybody. If anything, it makes you even smarter as you know more about the most basic unit of society--which is a family.

The only problem with today is that sex education is still stigmatized, therefore people are uncomfortable around the topic.
40  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do You Waste Your Life On The Internet? on: August 04, 2018, 07:55:29 PM
To be honest sir, I'm in the same position as you  Grin there are times when I'm happy that all I got to do for a day is sit in front of my laptop and play online games, watch youtube, and browse 9gag. Although sometimes, it saddens me to because i realize that this is not healthy for me both physically and mentally.

There is a whole new world out there, but sometimes Im too lazy to explore it, and yes I do blame the internet for that. But here I am now, so I dont really know what to do with my life. It's a good 50/50 for me too, actually.
