21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Let's get Bitcoinstore.com to accept Litecoin. on: June 04, 2013, 11:22:48 PM
There is an advantage to a merchant using both Bitcoin and Litecoin though, because when you accept Litecoin as well, you open yourself up for business from Litecoin users, instead of only Bitcoin users and visa versa.

"litecoin users" is just a small subset of "bitcoin users". Sadly.

22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Let's get Bitcoinstore.com to accept Litecoin. on: June 04, 2013, 10:57:50 PM
Many hosting services already accept Litecoin:

Did not find one on webhostingtalk. My bad.
Anyway.
Lets say I am a regular online merchant willing to try out bitcoin as a payment method for my (virtual) goods.
Assume that ltc payment processor is ready and I find out somehow that there is an alternative payment method similar to bitcoin - litecoin.
Can you please convince me to use it instead of bitcoin.
In other words are there real advantages for me as a merchant of using litecoin instead of bitcoin ?

high frequency trading, transaction processing times between financial institutions, small footprint of financial organizations in 3rd world countries, opacity of the existing global financial systems, restrictive regulations,  lack of individual ownership of existing financial institutions, the list goes on as to why digital currencies are needed.

Yep... and we already have bitcoin for this.

all fiat currencies provide anonymity for illegal transactions.  as long as fiat is physical is can travel through out a black or grey market for years with no historical record of transactions.

The huge amount of btc can be easily followed on the way to mtgox through the chain.
One of the easiest and efficient ways to make them really anonymous is to change to alt-coins at some anonymous stock and then back.

litecoin serves as much of a purpose as did the horse drawn carriage.  useful for its time but it cannot go as fast as today's cars.  the world will demands strong, better and faster.  litecoin is somewhat a mature coin now.  time to move on to strong better and faster.

The real problems of bitcoin are initial ease of use for non-tech'y people and transaction speed.
If there will be a coin which will solve both of this issues it will have a chance for popularity (in case of sufficient investments into marketing).
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Most promising Altcoin for the future of mining? on: June 03, 2013, 06:11:01 PM
There is no promising altcoin 'couse world does not need it.
The only hypothetical use of alt-coins in the future is to provide anonymity for illegal bitcoins - BTC/ALTC and vise-versa conversions on stocks like btc-e.
Litecoin is more then enough for this purpose.
And this is, btw, the sufficient  reason why you won't ever see altcoins on gox - especially considering latest libertyreserve stink.

Grin
28  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 166667 avalon chips to absolutley dominate bitcoin network on: May 31, 2013, 05:22:14 AM
I know that  this won't happen 'couse doing this for an asic chips manufacturer is like blowing up the goldmine but think a bit.
If 1 avalon chip is 300 mhash and total network hashrate is 100000ghash for now they need just 170k chips running to absolutely dominate bitcoin network.
Considering 1 chip 0.085btc (and of course net cost is MUCH less) one asic manufacturer would need just ~1 million dollars and asic chip factory to do whatever they want with bitcoin.
I know that in practice that won't gonna happen(nobody wants to blow the goldmine right ?) but don't you think that even hypothetical opportunity of such an easy scam should lead us to conclusion that sha256 is not good enough to provide appropriate network decentralization.

You also misused the word "scam"

my bad
29  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Why everyone is acting like nothing is happening ? on: May 30, 2013, 09:41:46 PM
That's ASICMiner. Yes, they have ~30TH/s. They used to be at BTCGuild, but that pool got too large (approaching 50%), so they started solo mining.

Thanks.

И почему все себя ведут так как будто ничего не происходит...
31  Bitcoin / Mining / Why everyone is acting like nothing is happening ? on: May 30, 2013, 08:42:15 PM

Yellow line is "Unknown" pool according to bitcoinchain.com.
And synchronous turn off of this 30Th device kinda tells us that it can be controlled with push of a button.
And 30% of network is kinda not far from 50% ... not considering that it could blur its hashrate to known pools not to be suspicious.
32  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 166667 avalon chips to absolutley dominate bitcoin network on: May 27, 2013, 12:24:00 PM
Almost all of the remaining bitcoins potentially belong to chineese chip manufacturers.
They sell(Huh) overpriced products with no warranty (by the fact) and no guaranteed shipping dates.
Obviously they will ship the chips when they will already have next-gen ones.

Not really sure what it has to do with SHA256 though.

I think network should switch to hashing algorithm that would be optimized for GPU/CPU mining so that making asic for it would be unprofitable.
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Crypto algorithm for better currency on: May 26, 2013, 02:06:19 PM
I'm just wondering is there a a crypto algorithm that would be highly optimized even better then scrypt for opencl/cuda or even CPU calculations so that it would be very hard or unprofitable to make an asic for it.

Your logic fails here.

I don't think so.

What's wrong with having asics?

Do you have an asic ?
If yes then I guess you are lucky owner of the micro-chip factory.

What reason did they provide for taking away your $ ?
Sadly they've bought scriptlance and I had a pretty good profile there.
