21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need somebody to enlighten me on: August 24, 2017, 10:47:45 PM
Why would ICOs be bad for ETH and the POS concept? The ICO wallets don't belong to just a limited group of individuals, but they are in fact "spread around the ecosphere" I think. In fact, I believe the ICOs may have a stabilizing effect on ETH, which will make it a true "investment vehicle" in crypto ecosystem and not a pure speculation instrument as BTC is right now.

Are there any charts available somewhere on how the capitalization of BTC and ETH changes over time? Is the appreciation faster for ETH than BTC?

Hi,

if I understand correctly BTC has a 21M cap as far as the total circulation is concerned and at the same time is PoW type of crypto, so it needs constant mining. So, how are the miners going to be rewarded after all 21M BTC will be already in circulation?
What am I missing here?

On the other hand, ETH has unlimited circulation, so it's inflationary by nature. Right now it's PoW type of crypto, but it's supposed to switch to PoS at some time in the future, so my understanding is that ETH holders will be rewarded just for possessing the crypto and no more mining will be needed. How would the switch between PoW and PoS work exactly?

Thanks!
23  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: SEC and the future of ICOs on: July 30, 2017, 01:24:31 PM
Thanks a lot!
I think we got some really good answers here, so I feel much more confident now.

What about the anonymity of investing in ICOs?
At which stage of the process can the investor's identity be revealed?
When I transfer ETH, or BTC from an exchange to my ERC-20 wallet my identity will be revealed, right?
If I send ETH to ICO from my wallet and then receive the tokens back to the same wallet my identity remains concealed, right?
When swapping the tokens received from an ICO for ETH, or BTC inside the wallet my identity remains hidden, right?
When transferring ETH, or BTC back from my wallet to an exchange my identity will be revealed, but there is no way to check what was going on with these ETH, or BTC in the meantime.

So, please correct me, if I am wrong, but it seems that the process of investing in ICOs can be kept totally anonymous, right?

This is all great, but still, what would you recommend now to a wannabe ICO investor? Should I just ignore this mess and go ahead with my plans, or rather wait till all regulations are in place and then decide what to do?
25  Economy / Trading Discussion / SEC and the future of ICOs on: July 29, 2017, 05:00:08 PM
Hi,

I think everybody is aware by now about the report SEC issued this week, but I believe it can be interpreted in many different ways.
Here is one of them, published by  TheMerkle this morning:
https://themerkle.com/blockchain-ceos-respond-to-secs-cryptocurrency-ico-verdict/

So, I was actually about to start my endeavor with ICOs next week, but now I have serious doubts, so maybe somebody would be kind enough to clear them for me:
1. Is there any easy way to classify which ICOs are, and which are NOT "securities" according to SEC?
2. I assume neither BTC, nor ETH are securities, so they don't need to be registered and regulated by SEC, right? Which other cryptos, if any, fall into this category?
3. What about ICOs restricting participation to non-US citizens? How seriously should this ban be taken? Would SEC be the body responsible for enforcing it, providing the company issuing ICO is based in the US?
4. Can ICO, or pre-ICO participation be truly anonymous? If not, at which stage of the process would the identity of an ICO participant be revealed?

I know it's a lot of question for one post and some of them would probably require some serious guessing, but I will appreciate your feedback.
Thanks!

Wasn't it JAXX platform hacked recently?
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Best wallet for ICOs on: July 28, 2017, 09:40:28 PM
Hi,

I know this question was probably asked here hundreds of times, but I also believe the best answer actually changes over time, so here we go again:
I am looking for the best ERC-20 compatible wallet, which I could also use to store other cryptos like XBT.
The one, which drew my attention is Coinomi, because it has good reviews, can store many different tokens and can be used for ICOs.

Should I consider any other options? Anything else to be aware of?

Thanks!
28  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best way to buy BTC with USD on: July 28, 2017, 09:33:39 PM
Thanks, everybody!
I think I will start with Gemini as the localbitcoin is quite overwhelming for me at this moment and I don't really see how it could be cheaper than one of the exchanges.
I really like Gemini's daily auctions and they just started one for ETH as well. Another reason is that setting up a wire transfer deposit for Gemini is quite easy.
29  Economy / Trading Discussion / Best way to buy BTC with USD on: July 27, 2017, 02:10:32 PM
Hi,

I am new to the game and wanted to purchase some BTC and ETH with USD. What I realized that the commission of Coinbase is much higher than the one of Gemini, or Kraken. The other major exchanges don't accept USD deposits though.
Is Gemini, or Kraken okay to buy BTC and ETH?

Thanks!
