21  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is a Bitcoin Really Worth? on: December 07, 2013, 05:51:14 PM
What is it worth to you to have money that no central authority can deflate the value thereof? What is it worth to you to have money that no government claims for itself a right to take from you via taxation?

What's a Bitcoin worth? I don't know the answer to that question. But I do know that a much better question to be asking is this... What's your economic freedom worth?
22  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How long would it take for Anarchy to start working? on: December 07, 2013, 05:26:41 AM
Oh noes! I can't possibly imagine living in a world with no government where certain bad people would no doubt try to steal from me and hurt me to help themselves! So therefore, it's necessary to submit to certain bad people who are the government who steal from me and hurt me to help themselves!

Statism = Logical failure
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reasons a business should accept bitcoin on: December 05, 2013, 02:57:59 AM
1) Because no government can create endless trillions of them at a whim
2) Because they will continue to appreciate in value every time a government continues to create trillions more of their fiat currencies
3) Because commerce between two parties ought not be subjected to the whims of a third

e.g more than 10 yrs inactivity 50% can be mined again  50% put in escrow for future claims.

Perhaps I have not made myself clear. What you propose is simple theft. If I want to save my XBT, and bequeath them to my great-great-grandchildren, it's none of your damn business.

Agreed 100%.
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin simply cannot replace fiat on: December 05, 2013, 02:24:58 AM
Bitcoin will not replace fiat or gold or anything else whatsoever although is has the potential to disrupt markets like that of international remmitances.

Bitcoin is worth more than gold already, apparently. :-)

Compare the $13 billion market cap of BTC to the estimated total net worth of all the gold ever mined on earth (some 200,000 tonnes, worth $9 trillion).

Ok what will happen if do that comparison? Something that will actually make sense?
The comparison of the price of 1 bitcoin with the price of 1 ounce of gold is meant for pr buzz reasons and holds no other value whatsoever.

The takeaway from that should be that when BTC captures even more of the value that is currently held in other commodities, such as gold, that BTC will continue to increase in value. Which are easier to store & transport...bitcoins or gold bars & coins? Which are easier to use for commerce directly? Bitcoin only has a tiny fraction of the total value held in other commodities, and has the capability of becoming far more useful. So, of the two, an oz of gold seems rather overpriced to me now and a bitcoin seems like an astounding bargain even at current prices.
27  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to easily increase your BTC by trading! on: December 03, 2013, 09:30:44 PM

nice commercial you guys have going here.

+1. I'm still waiting for the funny ending though.
28  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mike Hearn, Foundation's Law & Policy Chair, is pushing blacklists right now on: December 03, 2013, 09:12:29 PM
Why would anyone in their right mind who isn't interested in seeing someone or some group have the ability to essentially steal whatever BTC they want from anyone they want want to see a tool created that would allow exactly that to happen?

Mike Hearn is either a very devious prick or attempting to win the most useful idiot award for helping TPTB attempt to control and/or kill BTC. I really don't care which of the two is true, either way the very fact that he's suggesting ideas such as this clearly prove he can not be trusted.
... Questions such as this are worth raising even of only to dismiss them, as the process develops the reasons for the decision making.  Its a useful process in open source.  No need to tar him for raising the question.
...
Amen. What is with everyone jumping on Mike for thinking aloud? Why aren't you haters in this thread writing your representatives in Washington, or do you think you are getting more done lambasting a programmer in Switzerland?
I do not support listing coins either, but I think it is worth talking about why some support it and how it could be implemented. Chillax y'all.

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought that discussing the idea that there ought to be some centralized tool by which an outside party could control the BTC holdings of individuals and the value of the BTC market were frowned upon by this community. I must be mistaken. Please, do go on and tell me why the guy who has publicly said that it'd be an OK idea to negate the value of any BTC I may have some day, simply because 'they', those in control of that tool, claim that that BTC has been somewhere they didn't like is worthy of my praise and respect. Because I'm SURE that such a tool could and would NEVER be used in a manner that would benefit those controlling it, right? Fire away, I'm all ears.

30  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do we need a miners and holders union for bitcoin? on: July 05, 2013, 03:12:13 PM
Bitcoin holders and miners are essentially the central banks of bitcoin economy. ...

What do you think?

I think your question illustrates your lack of understanding about the entire point of Bitcoin, that being the need for a decentralized currency that the market controls the value of instead of some central 'bank' or another. When a small cabal controls the value of a currency and the supply of that currency, that cabal has the power to take as much wealth as they wish to from those using said currency. So no, I don't think Bitcoin needs some cabal or another to control it's value, why do you? Do you hope to use the power of this proposed cabal of yours to essentially force the market to pay more for Bitcoin than it is worth?

Thank you very much for the update and for checking into this so quickly. I've never had a quicker response from any pool or board op.
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CGMiner only mines 1 card scrypt, 4 cards otherwise. Why? on: June 28, 2013, 06:26:05 PM
Why do people continue to use the 'shaders' flag/variable when the 'thread-concurrency' flag/variable supersedes it?

Go here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=117221.0 and read up. There is also this file called 'README.TXT' in the CGM directory that you should read as well.

Here's a couple of tips based on my observations and experience. Your mileage may vary. Limit one offer per customer. Batteries not included. Always ride safely and wear a helmet. Don't forget your towel.

- Dial in each card separately
- Use a *.conf file instead of the command line, it makes life a lot easier.
- Thread concurrency may differ for the same cards plugged directly into the MOBO vs plugged in with 1x-16x or 1x-1x risers, likewise for powered/unpowered risers.

Go forth, tweak, and you're welcome.

My support ticket was responded to in person within a minute, and followed up on within 10 minutes. Spectacular service!
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CGMiner only mines 1 card scrypt, 4 cards otherwise. Why? on: June 28, 2013, 02:20:51 PM
I'm running CGMiner on Ubuntu 12.04 and with SHA-256 all 4 GPUs will be doing stuff. Clearly all 4 cards are seen by CGMiner. BUT, with scrypt mining CGMiner only appears to be doing stuff on 1 card. The other cards will all be showing 0Kh.

With the same set-up and a single card it runs fine and on that machine I have 4G ram, all as expected. On the other machine I have 4 cards so thought that 4x the RAM would do the trick, I have 16G ram so I assume that's not the issue.

The cards are all 7970s.

Here's what the script looks like for starting CGMiner:
Code:
export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100

cgminer.exe -o stratum+tcp://POOL_URL:POOL_PORT  -u MY_MINER_NAME -p x --scrypt -I 13 --shaders 2048 --thread-concurrency 8192 --lookup-gap 2 -g 4 -w 256 --gpu-engine 1045 --gpu-memclock 1750 --auto-fan

What am I doing wrong Huh

Um, not using the 'search' function for the forum? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=117221.0
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Hardware question on: June 19, 2013, 02:52:09 PM
^ Nonsense. I don't undervolt and they're running fine on a 1250W PSU. It draws max 1240W from the wall on 4 OC'd HD7970's, AMD X2 and 4 GB of ram. With 91% efficiency, that's 1130W on the 12V side of the PSU. That's 120W of headroom @ full load, which is plenty.

No need for a 1500W PSU on 4 7970's.

LKKy4eDWyVtSrQAJy7Qmmz61RaFY91D9yC

Might want to check your math. That's 10w of headroom.

The wattage of a power supply is how much it delivers, not how much it draws. If a machine with a 1250 watt PS is drawing 1240 at the wall but is 90% efficient, it is delivering about 1116 watts of power to the PC. So, if a 90% efficient 1250 watt PS is drawing 1240 at the wall it still has an additional ~134 watts or so of available power. Conversely, at maximum power delivery of 1250 watts, one could expect to see about a ~1375 watt load at the wall. I wouldn't run anything that close to the rated power though, but that's just me. Even within 10% is a bit too close, I prefer at least a 15-20% margin. Don't need anything going POOF! on my machines, ya know?
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stablecoin, heavily premined, 1.2+ million coins premined!! on: June 15, 2013, 02:08:52 PM
This post is 100% FUD. The dev clearly stated that 0.5% of the coins would be premined for the mixing service & bounties.

Did I do it right? Does the giant green text add more validity to my point? I'm kinda new here, so I'm just checking.

39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Saphhire 7950 Vapor x OC settings on: June 13, 2013, 07:00:22 PM
what does the VDDC start for? mine is at 1250. where should i put it?

when i put the gpu clock up to 1050 i got my hashes up to 570 Smiley

thanks!

VDDC is the volts in DC that the card is running at. Under volting a card, if you can do it, saves electricity and reduces the heat that the cards produce. What's the rest of your config? I'm getting ~1.2Mh with my 2 7950's, and my Sapphire is much better than the XFX DD I bought before I knew better.
40  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: These physical LTC look awesome! on: June 12, 2013, 07:36:29 PM
These are worth the same as any other product or service is worth; what the merchant is willing to sell them for and what the market will pay for them. Personally, I think they look pretty cool and may be persuaded to trade some BTC/LTC for some, depending upon the selling price.
