22  Economy / Economics / Re: The Effects of Blockchain on Developing Economies via Humanitarian Aid on: January 17, 2018, 01:39:09 AM
Looks great that they are using the technology not only for sending cash aid. Having the distribution system run via blockchain would definitely reduce wastage and reduces the risk of aid being siphoned off elsewhere. My country was hit by Haiyan and needless to say, the aid that came in was not managed well.

There are stories I have heard of the aid sent in the form of medical equipment laying around for years before being installed. There are procurement units set up centrally because of local corruption. There are so so many ways blockchain technology could improve the process.

For example, counterfeit medicines or theft of medicine can be mitigated by smart contracts. Logistics companies can implement anti-tampering devices, GSM tracking and connect it to a smart contract that only allows the seal to be broken once and by a specific group or person.

There's an ICO coming out called ShipChain which will focus on transport. I guess also IOTA can help and many other companies.

I would love to have the opportunity to use my insights and learnings to consult in such matters. I guess that's why I wrote this article and made this post. Just checking to see if anyone is interested in listening Smiley.
23  Other / Meta / Re: Activity & new membergroup limits on: January 17, 2018, 12:58:28 AM
Hey,

I have been a member since August (for 6 months and 1 day to be exact) but only started posting actively more recently. I have been asked to make some ANN threads in the Russian forum and I need 2 more activity points in order to be able to post pictures. It's really important that I can include pictures in it. I already made one I believe 2 weeks ago and it looks great but it would look much better with pictures. This other coin's ANN thread would not be adequate without pictures. I have the post written up but don't want to submit it without them.

I have 36 posts but my activity seems to be stuck at 28. Can someone help me figure this out? I'd like to make the post as soon as possible. Is there anything I can do?

I like to believe my posts are all on topic, diversified in terms of which forums I post in, and helpful or at least further the discussion.

Thanks in advance for your help!
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best CPU Mineable Coins in 2018 and CPU Mining Guides on: January 16, 2018, 03:36:48 PM
I am not sure about profitability but I am sure that Nexus is the best under-the-radar coin out. Smiley

Nexus uses proof-of-work x2 (both GPU and CPU mining) as well as proof-of-stake, to combat against attackers. The value of this coin will grow in the next years so I am planning to mine it once I get my system set up.

Here is the guide: https://nxsforum.com/topic/49/new-cpu-miner-guide

Enjoy and good luck!
25  Economy / Economics / The Effects of Blockchain on Developing Economies via Humanitarian Aid on: January 16, 2018, 03:21:40 PM
I worked in humanitarian aid for 5 years as a salesperson and this summer I discovered that the United Nations (our biggest customer) had began what they call the UN Blockchain Initiative. Since then, I've discovered that there are several coins which are attempting to specialize in blockchain for aid, including Humaniq and more recently Aidcoin. Long story short, I was so excited about learning this that I decided to write an article about the UN's use of blockchain for humanitarian aid projects and I wanted to share it here with you guys to get your feedback / opinions.

Do you think that a concentration on these kind of projects should be a focus in the cryptocurrency space? How can we (me and you) as regular folks contribute to this? Is there anyone else here who is similarly excited about such developments as I am? I would love to have an ongoing discussion about this topic here on Bitcointalk.

You can read the full article here. Excerpt from the article:

10 Great Examples Of How The UN Is Using Blockchain Technology For Social Good

In December 2016, Yoshiyuki Yamamoto was appointed as a special advisor at the United Nations, initiating the “UN Blockchain initiative”, an interagency effort to utilize blockchain technology to improve the distribution of aid. The initiative includes cooperation with the UN umbrella of agencies, which focuses on the effective use of philanthropic donations. The UN’s sustainable development goals (SDG) promote humanitarian causes, including ‘no poverty’, ‘zero hunger’, and ‘quality education’, among 14 others.

The current initiatives range from proof of concept, events and workshops to investments and publications. UN Women held a blockchain hackathon event, the UNODC held a cryptocurrency-focused train-the-trainers event, the UNDP used blockchain technology to manage UN car fleets and UNICEF has invested more than $11 million into blockchain start-ups. To help us visualize how blockchain technology can be useful, here are some more detailed examples of how it is already being implemented:

United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS)
UNOPS is the organization that launched the UN Blockchain Initiative. It is the operational arm of the UN and so it aims to bring all other UN agencies together in an effort to synergize knowledge, processes and networks to achieve success with blockchain technology. Those who wish to contribute or ask questions are able to do so online by registering to the UN Blockchain Forum.

UN Women
In June 2017, UN Women partnered with Innovation Norway to hold an event in Oslo- a Blockchain Hackathon. 40+ women from around the world participated in the workshop. In addition to an application called VIPI Cash, an app which promotes entrepreneurship among women and permits for secure financial transactions between them, the women produced several other decentralized applications. Another 48-hour hackathon event was held in Bosnia and Herzegovina on December 7th, 2017.

World Food Program (WFP)
The WFP distributed more than $1,000,000 in aid to thousands of Syrian refugees in Zaatari, Jordan. The assignment allowed the refugees to buy food using only the scan of their eye and partnered with Parity, Datarella and Iris Scan technologies. The project, which is called “Building Blocks”, is currently in its ‘Scale Up’ stage, after a successful prototype and pilot stage.

-snip-
Is anyone up for providing me with some feedback regarding my posting style?

Yes, if you'd like further analysis feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll give you my opinion.
There are many users around here with a lot more to say on this subject than I do, but in my personal opinion try to stay away from threads with too many replies for you to read through them. I like to read every reply to a thread prior to replying so that I know I am not repeating another user's input and I've fully understood the discussion being had. I see you've posted in a handful of "mega-threads" and generally these do not house proper discussion, it is users repeating the same one-liners page after page, even if you quote/reply to a user directly they most likely will never see it or respond.

Another very valuable piece of advice I would offer to you is to keep at least a half an hour between your posts, this forum is more laid-back, relaxed and even slow-pace, most users do not like to see that the same user has bumped the last 5-threads in a row of any given section. Read, proofread, reread and edit your posts with as much effort as you can so you know you are giving your all with every post; put your full thought out there so there is no confusion or need for clarification. Burst-Posting is generally frowned upon by almost everybody.

You do not need to add extra words or punctuation for no reason just to make your posts longer, a quality post is just any contribution to a discussion, or the contribution of a discussion, service or good to the forum. If you are not presenting a new, creative thought then you are repeating what has already been said; Quality posts are unique, helpful, thought-provoking, opportunity-providing, service-providing or something of that altruistic, informative or genuinely inquisitive vein.

I'll do what bill gator is offering and make it 50 dollars for the month.

I'm going to avoid this Jamal drama, but if you need someone to escrow the 50 dollars a week, I'll be happy to help for no fee.

So now it seems you have an offer of $60/month from aTriz and I, or an offer from Jamal for $50/week; I will act as aTriz and no longer feed the drama, I apologize for any animosity, I just wanted to throw my opinion on the weight of each offer. There may even be another user interested in throwing $10 into the pot as well, I'll shoot them a PM and see if they're still interested in this kind of thing.

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate the detail you put into it and I will check those links out ASAP. As you can see, I registered in August and never wanted to post just to post. However, it is a bit frustrating that I now (after a 1/2 year) cannot post a thread with pictures because I need 2 more activity confirmations. This would be the 2nd ANN thread I have been asked to do and I still cannot post pictures!

I am a writer and I've studied creative advertising as well, so I subscribe to the theory that sometimes less is more. So I definitely do not enjoy pumping up word-counts, that's a bit grade-school, if you ask me. Judging a post by the word-count is also something I would disagree with and if someone does not have time to stay on the forum for hours each day but comes to post a couple of things here and there (let's say 10 posts in 60 minutes), but they are genuine posts with normal responses / questions, why is that frowned upon?

27  Other / Archival / Re: My Signature, Avatar, and Personal Message for rent on: January 16, 2018, 11:00:28 AM
This is quite an interesting post for me, actually- and not because I want to rent out my signature or pay this dude....

I am quite new here but I only started posting once I already had built relationships with coins / communities and had something real to say. If someone would be curious, they could see my posts include Russian threads / translations as well as promotions for well-established coins.

I am curious as to what classifies as a quality post, however, because sometimes I do post one-liners, as many threads are just about discussion. I also recently posted a "good job" kind of post, because I was really impressed with someone's renewable energy mining set up.

Is anyone up for providing me with some feedback regarding my posting style?
28  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: NordFX: Trade Bitcoin & More with Leverage 1:1000! on: January 16, 2018, 10:45:06 AM
I would advise against this. The market is volatile as it is and inexperienced traders are everywhere. People can lose a lot of money like this...
29  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it time to buy some BTC? on: January 16, 2018, 10:42:34 AM
Yea I would say so, but it can drop further to 7 or 8k as well. Then it's for sure time to buy. In any case, buy.
30  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto Bloodbath.. on: January 16, 2018, 10:41:14 AM
I am just buying more as it dips lower. Either buy or at least hold, it is quite simple Smiley. Cryptocurrency has been in development since the 70s and it is not going away because of a January dip, so just chill out and do something productive with your time while the market recovers.
31  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I got this idea about eSports and betting. Opinions? on: January 16, 2018, 10:23:23 AM
Have you heard of Dreamteam? They are an eSports coin.

Whereabouts in Europe are you? I am in Vienna and I have been daydreaming about opening an awesome gaming center as well, but I first need to make some big big gains in order to do that :p.

Cool idea!

32  Economy / Economics / Re: why should bitcoin! on: January 16, 2018, 09:58:39 AM
Most of the people who I talk to on the street or the taxi driver or whoever do not know what is cryptocurrency. They do, however, know what Bitcoin is. It's like asking someone "have you tried this carbonated caffienated glucose syrup before?". They say no, but when you say the name Coca Cola, they say oh yea of course.

Also, Bitcoin is the only significant coin that was launched anonymously, right? Maybe that gives people hope, that it cannot be corrupted to the same extent that more centralized coins can.
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are Airdrops Profitable? on: January 16, 2018, 09:49:47 AM
Airdrops are a boring and inefficient use of your time, usually. That is, unless you really believe in the coin and they have a solid project. Many of these coins mismanage these airdrops or don't make clear instructions, hoping that you will join the group and then not execute as per their requirements so they do not have to give you coins.

34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your worst ICO for 2017? on: January 16, 2018, 09:37:42 AM
Polybius! They scammed me out of 10 dollars in July. I would have had 8 dollars by now!!!
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEO altcoin on: January 16, 2018, 08:23:59 AM
I recently sold some of my NEO at $120 and GAS at $50 and I regret it a lot. I hope to buy back in, regardless of whether it dips or not. Luckily I still have some left and they are growing! I got in at about $25 Dollars on average (not a great entry but also not bad).

Does anyone know how does China treat other similar competing coins? I understand that NEO and the Chinese government are cooperating quite closely, but there are other chains being launched in China, if I am not mistaken?

Does NEO have any competitors I should watch out for / invest in?

By the way, I would not call ETH a direct competitor because the platforms are different, in the sense that NEO is more open (Microsoft) and ETH is closed (Apple) in terms of the ability of developers to code with it. NEO allows for coders to use many different common programming languages while ETH has its own.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Is Telegram the new measure of ICO success? on: January 16, 2018, 08:18:27 AM
Telegram is an excellent tool for building communities. However, an ICO needs much more than just a good telegram community to be successful. I've discovered that using telegram along with bots to manage FAQ and bounties, for example, is an amazing combination. I also find that it is much more effective than Slack in terms of intuitiveness. With that said, I still like Slack for its versatility and project management capabilities.

I think Telegram + Slack / Discord is a good combination for bilateral communications between a crypto and its community, while Twitter is good for buzz-building and announcements.

37  Economy / Reputation / HitBTC Experience on: January 16, 2018, 08:11:59 AM
Hey everyone,

So I had a bad experience with HitBTC recently and of course I thought I would share it, as all customers who have bad experience love to do.

The thing is, the experience involved a friend of mine who finally decided to get into crypto. We set up his account and mistakenly, he transferred the wrong coins into the wrong wallet. I was told by someone who did the same thing with Binance that Binance automatically put the coins into the correct wallet. However, when emailing about this issue with HitBTC, the response they gave was the following:

It can take up to two months for your deposit to be transferred back to the correct wallet and we will deduct $100 from your balance as a penalty.

Do you think this is a fair solution? I think that it would take them just as long to make the transfer as to write the email and there is no need for a $100 deduction, as they make their money on trading fees. Cry

I would think that an exchange which already has reputation problems would make an effort to win some points on such an issue. Thoughts?

38  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Hold or Trade - Which is Better? on: January 16, 2018, 07:50:06 AM
From my personal experience, holding has been much more profitable and I have left a lot of money on the table (lost it) because of stop losses and trading.

With that said, if we are talking about multiple coins, I think it pays to rebalance the portfolio from time-to-time so we do not go insane and have all our money on one coin. Newer coins grow at a much faster rate.

With regards to Bitcoin, the value is actually quite stable and so unless you are trading with hundreds of thousands of dollars or millions, holding seems to be the only option. Cashing out at certain points a % of your holdings is okay.
39  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Altcoin on: January 16, 2018, 07:43:52 AM
I would say, if you are investing with small amounts, then it doesnt make sense to go too heavy into Bitcoin at this point.

Also, if you are investing with small amounts, then you can probably afford to lose these small amounts so altcoins are a better option. In general, I am big on some of the other smart contract platforms and chains, like Ethereum, Neo, Nexus. They are more advanced and have more room to grow.

So, in summary:

Start with some altcoins, some ICOs even (best to get in at presale), and then once you have made some decent earnings, rebalance the portfolio into Bitcoin at 30%.

40  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XRP] Ripple Speculation on: January 15, 2018, 11:55:10 PM
I made some money on Ripple but not nearly enough! I have advised others to invest in Ripple at .20 - .25 cents and they made some pretty good dough.

I believe that right now they are trying to determine where the support level is among regular investors and so they are testing the waters, selling off their stock bit by bit.

I do think there will be another pump rather soon, so I have invested some more here under 2 dollars.
